Sometimes the vegetarian BLT from the Templeton is the only thing I want to eat. I very much enjoy the mangled eggs for breakfast, and all of their ice cream concoctions are delicious. My partner doesn't like this place, but I think he maybe just always orders the wrong thing (e.g. the quesadilla). The prices are great and the service is generally nice, although sometimes a bit too "snappy" in a pejorative sense. I've had extremely sweet service too though, so it probably just depends on how things are going that day. I always bring people from out of town here. It's just a fun place to go, especially if you like diners. The decor is real cute. read more

Little ole diner in the heart of Granville. Went with friends for breakfast. Place was packed UT we got in right away and seated at the counter. Stools were tiny and hurt my ass. We tried this restaurant pretty much completely based on Yelp reviews. If I hadn't gotten them, we probably would not have gone there due to its surroundings. And we would have missed some amazing food. We actually went to the Templeton twice during our time in Vancouver. So first, breakfast. There's really only one word - YUM! The waitress was friendly and efficient, the food was fresh and delicious and came out quickly. My wife and I had egg-related meals (the mangled eggs for me, the farmers breakfast for her), and they were just perfect. The boys had the breakfast sundaes, which they enjoyed (no surprise there). After our great experience of breakfast, my wife suggested we returned to try out dinner (and the dessert that they had listed up on the board). Our boys split the macaroni and cheese - I tried a bite...oh my goodness, it was quite possibly the best mac & cheese ever. I had the ahi tuna, which was fresh, perfectly done, and a nicely balanced flavor. My wife did the Med quesadilla, which she enjoyed greatly. Dessert was the peach and berry crumble for me (and yes, it's at least as good as it sounds), a cobbler for my wife (which she enjoyed, but was a little bit jealous of my crumble), a sundae for one boy, and the Brownie of Doom for the other...seriously, if the brownie was any bigger, it would have gotten up and started menacing Tokyo. Both my wife and I had to help him finish it. Again, service with flair and a smile. If you're down in that part of town, don't hesitate - go get some good comfort food! read more

My teenage daughter and I recently went to the Templeton on Granville for dinner. We both had a burger, mine with unbelievable garlic mashed potatoes as a side, and my daughter's came with salad w/yummy strawberry dressing. The burgers were nice and hot, well-dressed, flavourful, and delicious. Our server was also hot, well-dressed, flavourful, and delicious. Oh I couldn't resist that now could I?! She really was very nice, professional, and accommodating. We had a great time, and came away feeling nice and full, in a good way. I've been here twice now and both times I've had a great vegetarian meal and quick, reliable service. It's a very small, greasy-spoon-style diner, but don't let that deter you from eating here! I admit I've not been impressed by the neighbourhood around the place, but the diner itself looks clean and has a family-friendly atmosphere. I was initially drawn to this diner because, first of all, they have a wide variety of vegetarian-friendly options on their menu. Second, they serve breakfast until 3 PM local time, which I had a surprisingly hard time finding elsewhere. I'm so happy to have found a restaurant that meets both these criteria! Both times I've eaten here, I've been satisfied with the portions, the speedy service, and the staff's good manners. The first time I ate here, I ordered the tofu scramble with a fruit salad; on the second, I had the trucker's breakfast with veggie bacon and a green salad. Both of these meals were totally satisfying and properly cooked. It's a diner, and a good one. If you don't like diners, you probably shouldn't ever, ever come here. Service is fast, thorough and efficient (there's usually one server for the whole darned place), the food's good and the space (it's an old diner) is fantastic. It's not a place for folks who don't want to sit at a counter or who want carb-free options (good grief, just don't eat the rosemary potatoes then) or who want obsequious, fawning service. As far as breakfast goes this place was pretty good ! It is rather smallish so do expect a wait , even in the rain , and there isn't enough room in waiting area for for more than about 8 people comfortably , we were waiting outside thinking that , that's the way things go , but go inside and put your name on list !! Other people walked in an were seated right away ( granted they were singles ) but still when we finally got in the hostess asked why we didn't add name to list ? We weren't the only ones ??!!! As for food I got the farmers breakfast with two perfectly cooked eggs & sautéed veggies over crisp potatoes and cheese !! Yummy !! Although that particular breakfast didn't come with toast my friends breakfast came with more than enough toast to share !! Service was friendly , and everything seemed to be fresh and well prepared , my friends enjoyed their breakfast as well , but just don't know if it was worth the wait ?? The Templeton probably doesn't really need my review but I went there and I've got things to say damnit! Went with JP and Detective Riddle - between the three of us, we were torn as to what to order....DR ended up with Mangled Eggs, JP did fish and chips and I ordered Mac N Cheese. We had just returned from a trip to the comic book store (my once per decade visit) and were ravenously hungry for food and Sunday morning ambiance. The original diner furniture is well cared for and funky and there was a screen playing scooby-doo mysteries on the wall above the counter. We sat down at the Tiki Table (all the tables are themed) and plunked a quarter in the tableside jukebox for a little bit of Hot Chocolate 'Everyone's A Winner'. The Detective loved the Rosemary potatoes that came with her Mangled Eggs and JP got a huge pile of tartar sauce with his fish and chips (so of course I swiped a fry and tasted the saucy goodness - definitely homemade!). My Mac N Cheese was tasty and hot and came with a generous salad on the side. The highlight of the trip there was their selection of fountain sodas and syrups. I was even nice enough to let DR and JP have a sip of my awesome Vanilla Coke. As an Aussie, DR hasn't ever had the opportunity to try a deep fried chocolate bar so we put aside our fullness to do a three way on the melted chocolate goodness that is a deep fried Wonderbar. (Guess what? Spellcheck just changed that to Wonderbra - I did NOT have a deep friend WOnderbra!) It did not last long. Great diner-style decor with actual juke-boxes, but I wouldn't call it diner food, per se. You will not get a heaping plate of greasy food, no sir! Had a nice veggie omelette with the rosemary potatoes. Had to pass on the toast because of the whole gluten thing and had a pretty good cup of coffee. They don't have a kids menu, but you can order "sides" so one banana-blueberry pancake was adequate for my daughter. Lots of veggie and vegan options and a gluten-free person like myself can come out happy too! read more

This place was very good. As there seem to be a lot of bakeries and pastry type breakfasts this was one of the few places I found that offered full breakfast. I kept reading about how crowded it was but I went about 9am on a sunday and was fine. Though it was starting to get more crowded as I ate. I had the farmers breakfast which was very very good, rosemary potatoes were great, that ws some of the best bacon I've ever had. I also liked how there were vegetables with it, it came with salsa and sour cream that went well with it. I ordered coffee. Standard diner fare but really good fine. I never eat at the same place while Im on vacation but as I couldn't find another place i just gave up the next day and could kick myself. The Templeton is an unassuming store front on Granville street. If you're not paying attention, you'll walk right by it. We went here under advice from the Lonly Planet guidebook. I must say that the portions are big and the flavors are genuine. Everything is marketed as organic here. The portabello mushroom burger that I had was good. It was a little greasy, but the salad balanced it out. The vegetable lasagna was good, but with not enough tomato sauce (to my liking). The Templeton was like one of those places you would see on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives... except it was good. (We've had bad experiences buying into Mr. Fieri's hype.) It's a teeny, tiny place with maybe 35 seats in the whole restaurant, but it's perfect for breakfast. The service was good. The food was tasty. And there was a good mix of options. Oh, yeah. The portion size is big. Expect to leave with a doggy bag, a side ache or food left on the plate. My bf and I always end up here after a fight or argument... GOOD FOOD and the best part is it's vegetarian/vegan friendly and also has meat! I always order the poutine and farmer's breakfast with veggie bacon. It's a cute little place with a "diner" feel to it. Wish it had more tables, but then it might lose its' charm. I really like the Templeton. Have dropped in once or twice a year for years and nothing really changes there, which is a positive thing--especially on the Granville strip that is constantly evolving (or is that devolving?). The decor is awesome, the servers are always great, the food is reasonably priced, of good quality and solid, the drinks are a deal. Its a great place for a casual, satisfying bite downtown and feels like safe harbour from the chains, trashiness, and souless corporate takeover that is in full bloom in the area. I miss the days when Granville was gritty but had soul! The Templeton is a rare gem indeed. read more

The perfect place to have breakfast on a Sunday morning! The ingredients are fresh, locally sourced and some organic. We had the omelet, farmer's breakfast and eggs benedict and everyone loved their meal. I love the '50s diner feel and the friendly quick service.
