Decided to explore out today in Ghent area of Norfolk. I found this place which had great reviews which made me check it out and nothing short of amazing. Has the mom and pop feel to it but the food is much more superb than any mom and pop shop. I definitely understand the great rating. I think Ten Top is the best at what it is, a creative deli type shop in Norfolk. Everything I've had has been good, especially the Chicken apple chutney and walnut wrap (awesome sweetness) if a little messy to eat. The Cowboy chicken was also a favorite of my roomie and I. I also enjoyed the side offerings (oranges, pasta salad and potato salad), the potato salad being my favorite. I've eaten in and taken out. I advise calling ahead just to get the goodness faster. There are just 2-3 tables and some counter space along the window. I've seen people eating their food immediately in their car driving away... The parking can be annoying, especially since it is along a one-way street, but that is Colley Ave in general. But the worse thing was that I only tried this place when I only had 3 months of school left. Don't make my mistake! read more

Thank goodness for this unique sandwich joint that doesn't close before dinnertime. Like usual, I asked the cashier what the best-selling menu item is. She pointed out the Greek Lamb Hoagie and my brain automatically thought of how much I don't like the taste of lamb meat. However, along with the bread and cheese, it made the lamb taste a little more bearable. In other words, I actually liked this sandwich very much and easily finished it. So if you're similar to me and don't usually like lamb, this is one of those times where the way a restaurant prepares it will actually make it enjoyable. This is unlike all the times I think cilantro will taste different somewhere but it still kills my taste buds. I got some of the potato salad on the side, which the cashier stated is homemade and very popular. I thought it was just alright--I've had better potato salad but I appreciated the homemade fresh taste. So basically, this is what you should order: greek lamb hoagie - roasted australian leg of lamb with fresh spinach and mozzarella baked in a french baguette then topped with cucumber dill dressing I'm sure the other sandwiches are tasty but if you want to ensure a unique sandwich experience, go with the lamb. Aside from the awesome food, there was great service and I like how this place is centrally located in Ghent. I liked the carved wooden hands used as napkin weights. Although we had enjoyed this restaurant in the past, this visit was very different and we will not return. Far too many problems to list from the staff to the menu, and I would only frustrate myself further by listing them now. If I move away from Norfolk The Ten Top will probably be the thing I miss the most. The food is amazing! I have had so many of their sandwiches and specials and have never been disappointed. The portions are big enough that I usually eat half for lunch and the rest for dinner. I usually only pay around $10. Plus they make it so convenient to call in an order and go pick it up. Went here for a date, it was my first time eating here but it was a very good experience. The restaurant was extremely clean and the staff was very nice. The young man at the counter was respectful and very pleasant and went the extra mile to make sure myself and my date were comfortable. The food was phenomenal, I tried the bacon dates and the crab cake special of the day. They also had a side salad with fresh French bread. YUM! After reading all of my fellow Yelpers' accolades, we had to try this for lunch. The Hubs got the Turkey Apple Club and loved it! I got the Greek Lamb Hoagie and thought it was pretty good...and this coming from someone who does NOT like lamb. The only quasi-negative was that it was loaded with sauce...but only a quasi-negative since the sauce was good and it took away any gaminess I would've tasted in the lamb. We both ordered oranges with our sandwiches and it was basically a whole orange each. Free refills on fountain drinks which were Coke products = happy couple. We'll definitely return. read more

I had a hard time parking here because the space out front was full. Ended up parking across the street and was promptly blocked in by another driver. . .welcome to VA. The ten top. Chili. Fail. It tasted like a canned veggie chili I used to buy in college--like it came directly out of the can, and it was super thick, more like clumped re-fried beans than chili. Next! Potato salad. AHHHHHhhhh!!!!!! Complete awesomeness. There is nothing that needs improving in this dish! I also had a veggie panini of sorts. The outer crust was super crispy and delicious along with the veggies inside. I would have liked the veggies cut up in smaller chunks, as I found the dish difficult to eat; however that's just personal preference. I found the service to be not really cognizant of me. I am not expecting people to be my BFF, but check up on me at some point. I like the cool advertisements and local community events available here. Seems like a cool spot to hang out. read more

My Lord where have you been all my life!!! lamb and potatoe salad and have had the Caesar salad before! So so so flavorful!! And I found out that the bread "the tastiest most crispy yet softest bread I've ever had" is from Brooklyn! I could eat the bread alone! Wow. We had the coconut curry soup (vegan), spinach and feta chicken pizza and some kind of wild mushroom wrap. This place is a hole next to a laundrymat but, once you get a taste you will be hooked. The chef is excellent and the food is great. Parking is a little limited but, there are places to stop. I like places with vegan choices however I eat meat (not pork) I am a fan and I will be back for a third time... A must for off the beat and path eaters. read more

I love seeing real pieces of bacon on my salad, not just crumbly bits. This place is great! Fresh made food with lots of love. The potato salad is the perfect side for any of their sandwiches, especially the meatloaf! Love that it's red skins with the actual skins and it perfectly seasoned. The meatloaf sandwich is flipping amazeballs! Big, thick pieces of meatloaf on a perfectly toasted bread. The place isn't very large but it's got a nice vibe. Pinball machine in one corner, a bar top at the other corner, and about 5 tables. Small parking lot, but it's Ghent off of colley, be happy that there is a lot hahaha! I'd heard so many great things about this place over the years but had never made my way here until recently. I have been missing out! It's a cozy little restaurant tucked inside a small street that I probably would have missed if I wasn't looking for it. We'd actually passed it and had to come back around to look for parking! The restaurant itself is pretty small with just a couple of tables and a counter with seating. You order at the register and they bring your food to the table. My food was delicious! I got the turkey apple club sandwich and a side of cole slaw. It was so good that my mouth waters just thinking about it! I really enjoyed my meal! The server was very nice, and she checked on us frequently to make sure we were doing ok. She was very quick to get us what we needed. I had to test out this restaurant since Laine A. posted it on her "consistently good" list. Thanks, Laine for the recommendation, because you are spot on. Ten Top has what seems like a basic menu, but their food has flair. I ordered a tomato mozzarella sandwich. I was expecting what I get when I order that everywhere else: caprese salad on bread. At Ten Top, they twist it up a bit. First, it's an open sandwich, with big fat layer of tomatoes. Then just enough cheese so you can enjoy it but not feel like a glutton. It's heated up, and it's sort of like a deluxe pizza sandwich. Awesomeness. My friend ordered a grilled sandwich with bacon, cheddar and avocados that looked amazing. It's inspired me to try making my own grilled cheese with some sliced up avocado (looking forward to that experiment real soon!). Both of our lunches came with a choice of side. I was trying to be healthy so I got the sliced up orange. My friend got the potato salad and was nice enough to offer me a bite. So good! This little diner reminds me of a casual living room in the 80s. An old Simpsons pinball machine sits in the corner and there are vintage looking diner signs on the wall. It's no frills, yet very colorful and fun inside. Attention vegheads: lots of options here. I still need to try quite a few items on the menu like the black bean and veggie burrito or the Mediterranean wrap. There were four soups of the day, two vegetarian including a Vegan Green Curry soup that sounds interesting. The guy behind the counter wasn't overly friendly, but service was okay. My friend commented it took a little longer than usual to get our food, but it didn't phase me. There is not much seating inside, only a few tables. Homemade food and they have good prices. A unique hole in the wall and one of the best kept secrets of Norfolk! The tuna melt is my favorite. The touch of dill makes it perfect and different from any other tuna melt I have ever had. Today, I tried the meatloaf sandwich and it is more than enough for one meal. It was fresh and hearty. It could have used a little more flavor and it was a little mushy. Still very good! The pasta salad was my side and the fresh veggies they cut up on it make it delicious. The hummus is homemade and full of garlic. If you are looking for fresh food at a good price this is the perfect spot. The soups are always good too! read more

No words can describe how I crave this soup and the thrill I get when I see Ten Top update their fb status with the day's soups and see that it's there. "Curry pumpkin soup with cinnamon croutons." Yes, please. Always with a nice hunk of fresh bread to boot as well. Aside from my soup fetish and Ten Top's capacity to satisfy it, this is a top notch local establishment serving food that is fresh and local. Come rain or shine, Ten Top will be there to provide a quality product that's good for the local economy and good for the stomach. My new favorite lunch spot in Norfolk. A super relaxed setting. The staff was beyond friendly and accommodating. The menu had a yummy selection (I can't wait to come back and try a different sandwich) and you get a lot of food for the cost. The onlyyyyy drawback was they didn't have booster seats or high chairs so having our toddler with us made things interesting. Have been wanting to visit The Ten Too for about 3 years. Finally dropped in for a very late lunch last week. I decided to order the Barbecue sandwich with coleslaw which came with a side which I selected chips. My order came quickly but instead of the chips potato salad was on the plate. I brought this to the waitresses attention and she said that's ok you can keep it. I told her I did not like potato salad. Instead of taking my plate and bringing me another plate and my chips after bringing the mistake to her attention, she kinda snapped "we'll do you want another plate"? I just did not feel the response was appropriate. The barbecue and coleslaw was very good, the quantity was sizable. I think it would be more enjoyable to eat and less messy of the bun would have been slightly toasted since my sandwich fell apart due to the moist coleslaw and barbecue. I will return there to eat and hopefully the waitress will be more attentive to the customers and their needs. She was very chatty to employees in the back and those coming into the restaurant, therefore not being as responsive to customers. read more

My first and last time I came here was sometime in 2015 and it was a mistake for not revisiting this place any sooner. After having a smoothie from Strawberry Fields, I was looking for a spot to eat and luckily The Ten Top was right around the corner. It was a little busy when me and my girlfriend walked in and we both kinda had an idea of what we wanted. My last experience here I had the greek lamb hoagie with a pasta salad and it was BOMB. I didn't feel like looking through the menu so I got it again and it tasted just as good as the first time I had it. The mozzarella cheese that is melted on top of the lamb really intensifies the texture and flavor of the hoagie. Small location and good service. The Ten Top instantly became one of my top 5 spots to eat in Norfolk. read more
