The food was very good but our waitress, Meghan, was very rude. We were a group of four with a lot of catching up to do. Since I knew we were going to be there a while I tipped 25%. She actually sent a different waitress to double check that we didn't want dessert, so I ordered one so we could stay a little longer. At that point she just dropped off the check and picked it up without talking to us and made sure not to make eye contact when we were on our way out. It was a pretty crummy experience. Having a table stay and chat is not a great part of being a waitress, but acting like a high schooler is probably not the solution. My fabulous friend Allison treated me to an amazing lunch experience at this fantastic American Gastro Pub/Restaurant on a Tuesday afternoon and folks let me tell ya...this Joint was Jumpin'! And now I know why! We took 2 seats at the ample sized upscale bar and were immediately greeted with a smile by Lisa our wonderful Bartender. She gave us menus and suggested a special or two. Spot on Lisa! We ordered a glass of wine and a superb Apple-tini. We then decided on apps and were completely Wow'd by the culinary perfection and timely delivery of our Filet Mignon Spring Rolls, Lobster Bisque, Spinach & Artichoke Dip with Toasted Pita bread and Bacon Wrapped BBQ Shrimp. Great service with genuinely nice home town servers. The charming and ever dapper James Yacenda even stopped by with a warm and friendly welcome, asking if everyone was treating us well. Seriously, where do you get that type of down home treatment? This is my new favorite go to! You too will understand why everyone raves about The Thirsty Turtle! Love this place! The service was awesome and so was the food. I highly recommend the Filet Mignon Spring Rolls as a starter. I have been here a few times with my husband and we finally sat down for a full dinner with some friends over the weekend to catch some football. We will definitely be coming back in more often in the future. Some of the highlights of our apps, entrees and desserts were: the BEST French onion soup, combo wings, short rib tacos, salmon over oodles of noodles, pretzel burger. We ended up ordering a second bread pudding because we all demolished the first one the four of us shared. Our server who was also the bartender elevated our experience from great to flawless. It was like magic because every time I ordered a drink and turned my head for a moment she had already dropped it off & before I even asked for more water it was already full. Not sure where all these bad/mediocre reviews are stemming from, but this place is great. It's a good bar with a nice restaurant attached. I think some of the people complaining about the bar staff is due to families bringing their children to the bar, which I personally think is a bit weird to begin with. It's a bar, if you want to sit at a family restaurant you should be waiting for a table and a waitress. Other than i also know some of the bad reviews stem from the bartenders/managers not over serving patrons while they are clearly intoxicated. The young manager is a complete sweetheart and has been here for years, always greets everyone with a smile and is very accommodating. The bar staff is amazing, the regular workers such as Trish, Meg, Sean, John, and Bailey all remember your name and usual order and they go out of there way to greet you even when the bar is so packed that they can't drop what they're doing just to get you a drink, but they at least let you know they'll be back as soon as possible. I mean, this is the only the bar in town and they do get a lot of customer during peak hours, so how could you really expect them to treat you as their only customer. The food here is great, from the appetizers to the sandwiches and everything in between. They change their menu (and drink menu) seasonally and even have rotating taps of great beer, something that fridays, applebees, and chilis can't even come close to offering. I've never had a bad meal here and I'm a regular patron who has tried much of the menu. If you like soup with a little spice go with the Cajun chicken soup, if you're into having a dinner try their pork chop, when they have it (it's seasonal) or the short rib tacos, the Cajun chicken sandwich and cuban are the best around, and they even have some solid desserts. I'm not one to make reviews usually unless the place is horrible, but the thirsty turtle and their staff definitely deserve some respect and high praise. One of my favorite spots around. read more

Been frequenting this great find since they opened a few years ago. The food... always been great. Wide range of dishes from burgers to fancy salads. Decent portions. The menu isn't the biggest and it does change, but never had a bad meal, and I've tried just about everything on the menu. If I'm looking to fully indulge and blow the diet, I have to get the pretzel burger, SO GOOD! The staff... is average at best. Never had a bad experience, but never a notable one that left an impression. The place... is always clean and well kept. Nice bar with a varied mix crowd. Family friendly, good for lunch or dinner with little ones. Can get very busy during the workweek lunch rush. Not a place I'd go for a special occasion, but great to start or end the night for a drink and some good apps before going out on the town or ending the evening. Prices... are decent, not to crazy, but not the best deal around either. Not a deal breaker though. I still come here often. read more

Overall menu is good, and I've had a number things I've liked pretty well, including the onion soup and the ribs. However, the standout here is the hamburgers, particularly the port wine burger. It has never been less than excellent--really flavorful beef perfectly cooked. This has to be about the best burger within many miles. Yesterday was my first time dining here (Florham Park location). We got our own booth and it was quite spacious. Wait staff was attentive and service was good. The Guinness French onion soup was delicious- not too salty, cheese was gooey, and broth was packed with great onion flavor. I also tried the "new" chipotle bison burger and it was cooked to perfection! I expected a little heat, but it wasn't spicy at all. Still the flavor was strong with every bite. This is a very cool place. It's located right in Florham Park off Columbia Turnpike and still on the new side. I am came here for lunch the other day. The place was pretty packed but we were able to get seated right away. When you walk in, the bar is to the left and the dining room tables are to the right. I'm not sure if there is another section to the restaurant. It's a relatively simple menu but it's to the point. After perusing it for a little bit, I decided on the blackened chicken salad. At $12, I thought it was pretty decently priced. It was a good size and all of the ingredients were incredibly fresh. The blackened chicken tasted great and the dressing that came with the salad was very good. I also thought the tortilla strips gave the salad a nice crunch. I was pretty impressed. I will say this - next time, I am trying their pretzel bun burger. I saw someone eating it and it looked great. A unique pretzel bun and some Russian dressing on a burger - I'm pretty much sold. I will definitely be returning here. The only reason I did not go with 4 stars for this place is that the service was a little on the slow and inattentive side. She was very nice - it just took a long time to get our order in and she never really stop back over to check in. If and when I go back and the service is much better, this place will probably be due a 1-star upgrade. And...if the burger looks half as good as it tastes, the place will definitely get an upgrade. One thing I did not like, was the bartender asking me if I wanted a "big boy" drink, because all I was drinking was seltzer waters. I don't drink alcohol... ever. What a terrific local place. The food is consistently yummy. Love the sliders and the calamari apps. Flat bread and pot sticker apps also great picks. Wedge salad is great. Bartenders are attentive. This bar is a little hidden. It's near a major road but it doesn't jump out at you! I came for happy hour with some colleagues so the place was filled with various people...some of which were conversing at tables and others with eyes glued to the TVs for a soccer match. We ordered chicken fingers, quesadilla, spinach dip and the Irish nachos. The food was typical bar type food. I enjoyed the Irish nachos because I liked the crispness of the potato slices. My drink ended up being pretty strong...which hit me a little faster than expected. I keep shoveling food to help counter that (yay for grease! Haha!). I have been here and ordered from here many times in the past 3 years. I live and work in the area so the Turtle has always been convenient. I stopped in yesterday with 2 other people. We intended to sit at the bar but there were no seats available. We expressed to the host that we wanted a table, he then asked if we would be eating because the tables are for dine in only. When we expressed that one of us would be eating and the other two were only there for a drink, we were told that we could not be seated unless we were all having dinner. There must have been 6+ empty tables plus the ones outside. I am really disappointed in this establishment. Needless to say i will not be going back. read more

I grew up in Florham Park and come back often to visit family. This is a great addition to an otherwise quiet town and a place I will definitely visit with friends and family, especially on weekend nights! The ambiance is appropriate. Not loud, low-key, but lively. I went on a Saturday night and the bar area was full but not crowded. There are plenty of servers around to help you out but the wait staff could be friendlier. I didn't feel rushed to eat and leave. I just had dessert and drinks so can't comment on the food too much but the dessert was decent. I plan to check out the food the next time I'm in town! read more

My winning formula at the Thirsty Turtle IS.... Founders IPA + Short Rib Tacos = HAPPY BOMB!!! So I came to this place expecting to be underwhelmed and to walk out frustrated after reading all of the other reviews from the ELITE '13 Yelpers that have reviewed this place and I must say, I was VERY satisfied with my overall dining experience. I had lunch on 11/12/13 and was told that I could wait 20 minutes for a table OR sit right at the bar. Being that I AM a beer aficionado, the bar sounded like the place to be. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the bar had some good microbrew alternatives on tap including Blue Point, Stone, Founders and Kane. Sure, it was not a SUPER extensive list but it is much better than you would find in 80% of the bars/establishments in NJ. So right offer the bat, I started off satisfied with the drinks. I looked at the menu and nothing jumped out as being exceptional except for the Short Rib tacos (which are not even listed on their online menu). When they came out, I looked down at these two small tacos and thought "WTH, are you kidding me?!?! $12 for THIS!!!"! I thought that I could get the same thing at Taco Bell but when I bit into the taco, BANG, I was immediately impressed with the flavor and the tenderness of the beef. These two small tacos were done RIGHT!! Tender beef, fresh ingredients, and a flavorful mixture of sauces...I was like Charlie Sheen at that moment....WINNING!!! Again, I am not reviewing their WHOLE menu, merely the tacos that I ate and the beer that I imbibed. And both of those things were EXCELLENT. Take a look at your alternatives in the area. Not bad, not great. Went for the second time Sunday, and while they have a decent draft selection and a nice bar area, the food is just average. We had the Chicken Potstickers to start, which were surprisingly good with an awesome sauce, but they're small and you only get 5. My girl had the Pretzel Burger, and said it was pretty good, but the fries are your run of the mill frozen unseasoned ones. I had their signature Turkey Meatloaf, which was OK, but nothing special. The draft beer selection is pretty good, and my girl thinks their red sangria is one of the best she's had, so we will be back, but maybe will stick to drinks and snacks in the future. Looks like a great place to watch sports also. read more

The space is beautiful. Too nice for the food it serves. The location is dimly lit with very nice, sleek/modern feel to it. Decorated for the holidays too. We sat at a high top table near the bar on a fairly busy Thursday night. The menu is full of really unexciting things. Sliders just like every other restaurant in the area, state and country for that matter. Chicken wings, salads, soup, burgers and flatbread / pizza. After looking at the menu and trying to pick the most attractive option I decided on the pretzel burger without the Russian dressing my boyfriend had the Margherita flatbread. For an $11 burger I've had better. It was cooked to my request, medium, but portions were charred and tasted burnt. The $9 flatbread on the other hand was a joke. They should be ashamed of themselves for serving it. It looked like it was matzo. It was the size of eight saltine cracker laid out. It was clearly not an adequate dinner alone. With a salad or soup, maybe. Beers were standard. Eclectic mix of people at the bar lots of cougars. Random woman came to ask to take a stool from our table. Then a couple asked us if we were leaving and if they could have our table. Luckily we were paying our check, otherwise I would have been kinda pissed. The hostess is supposed to run interference for those sort of things. Don't really see any reason to go back, don't have the desire to anyway. read more

I've now eaten the entire menu at the Turtle having been here now about 15 times. It is a great place with a nice relaxing ambience. The food is great and the service is always good. Prices are reasonable and they have a great selection of beers and spirits. The only small issue is that in all 15 times, they never refill my kids drinks or my own. Small price to pay for what is a great local place. I highly recommend it. read more
