This is your classic American bar/restaurant! Florham Park is consumed by chains and low-quality restaurants. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Thirsty Turtle was NOT like its contemporaries in the area. Very moody lighting when you come for dinner. It's a mix between formal and chill vibes where you can feel comfortable coming for either! The service was amazing. Our waitress was super nice, accompanying, and helpful. I can't emphasize this enough: super awesome service!!!! The food comes at pretty decent prices for burgers, roughly 10-15$. I went with the Bison Burger and substituted the coleslaw for onion rings for an additional 4 dollars. I think it was on me that I didn't know it was 4 additional dollars to change the side. Looking back, I probably should've stuck with the coleslaw. This was the first time I ever had bison so it was a new flavor experience for me. Honestly, not my favorite burger as the flavor was a bit odd. The bun was absolutely delicious along with the crispy onions on top. Moreover, the onion rings were a size able portion where I couldn't finish them all! They came with a super yummy mayo dipping sauce that I loved!!! They have a dining area for family and a dining area closer to the bar. We ordered a couple of appetizers and shared them among ourselves. We ordered the Garlic Parmesan Pretzel Stix with Cheese sauce, The Chicken Quesadilla, Carnival Calamari, Wings, and Cuba Libra Wings. The Carnival Calamari came prepared with garlic, capers, kalamata olives, hot cherry peppers, roasted red peppers, balsamic vinegar, and olive oil. We ordered the wings with Jamaican jerk seasoning, and the Cuba Libra Wings came with sweet cola rum glaze, lightly jerk seasoned, toasted coconut, and creamy peppercorn. The Cuba Libra Wings were the best appetizer we ordered, followed by the Calamari, in my opinion! The flavor on the Cuba Libra Wings was delicious. Just seasoned to perfection. Pros: wait staff was friendly and patient with my semi loud family. Very accommodating when the kids decided to play musical chairs with the high seats. Everything that I ate was really tasty. I really enjoyed the carnival calamari. i like sweets, so the tangy, sweet flavor of the calamari sauce was perfect. The battered onion rings also had the right battered consistency. I ordered the bacon and egg burger because bacon! But on a serious note, the burger was so simple but yet flavorful at the same time and the egg perfectly cooked. Came here to get some beer, food, and hang out on a friday. I was surprised by the interior of this place when I got there. It looks really fancy with dark wood and nice lighting that gives it a classy feel. This is really a great spot for after work drinks or if you want to stay local and watch a sports game. There aren't really too many bars in the Florham Park area, so this is really the place to go if you're looking to meet up for a couple beers. As for the food, I got the cajun chicken with fries on the side. The cajun chicken was juicy and flavor packed, and for a mere $10. I really love that the staff is happy and smiling, and they seems to actually WANT to be there. (It makes a huge difference - really - to see a few smiles.) Food was good all around. We thoroughly enjoyed all facets of the restaurant and was greeted personally by the owner, Jim! I'd be doing the restaurant a disservice if I didn't mention our lovely waitress, Emma! She is a star and treated our table, along with her other tables, like VIP. She was super attentive, suggests good appetizers, refilled our drinks without asking, and so on. Very nice location/atmosphere and the service was great. However we found the food extremely bland. The French Onion soup had zero flavor, very few onions and the bread was almost non existent. Next we had the filet mignon egg rolls and they were not good. They kind of reminded me of the frozen steak ems you used to get in the supermarket. We also got a pretzel burger which was average at best and the Irish Nachos which were extremely greasy. We ended up leaving most of our dishes uneaten. I met a couple of old friends for lunch in the FP location. We were seated immediately. Our server was awesome. I wish I remembered her name. She was a pretty blonde. Anyway, our meals were really great, and since we hadn't seen each other in 10 years, we lingered at our table, catching up and sharing family photos.. The waitress was so kind and understanding. The onion rings are better than you'd expect here, while the fries are just so-so. Go figure. I would like them to offer some a la carte sides, but they only seem willing to offer appetizers. Would love to see them offer a baked potato... In addition, we'd inquired about a side salad with our entrees, but were once again told that wasn't offered. Why not offer something so simple for a few bucks??? You're already making entree salads. Would a little lettuce tomato, cucumber and carrots with some dressing be so difficult? Surely not. They continue to update and expand on the menu, offering expanded appetizers, salads and entrees. Decent selection of craft and domestic beer on a rotation that changes regularly. Again, while I wouldn't recommend this to a couple looking for a night out for fine dining, it's certainly a fine place to come with your kids to get a reasonable meal for a reasonable price. They also have a nice bar area that would be nice for adults to get together for happy hour, guys/girls night out, small party etc. No reservations here. Been there three times recently during Covid crisis for outdoor dining. We picked it because of the covered porch during a rainy week. They're really nice when you call for a table. The service was great, staff pleasant and attentive and teamwork amongst them was obvious. I've had the salmon twice and love it. Perfectly grilled and served with asparagus and delicious rice. My husband likes the buffalo wings and the cajun chicken sandwich. A friend had the flank steak and said it was delicious as well. Fries not a standout. Had a great meal here with my dad. First we had the calamari appetizer. If you love balsamic/olives then get it...but I couldn't really taste the calamari with the amount of toppings on it. He had the bison burger and I got the standard with provolone cheese and wild mushrooms. Both were cooked really well, delicious buns too! Service was inconsistent at first, but our waitress changed halfway through (I guess shift change) and she was really attentive for the rest of the meal. Other than that, great atmosphere and people. When I first noticed this place (old Trader Joes location - yeah it was tiny) I thought Irish Pub potentially being a dingy place inside. I was surprised to walk into a really nice restaurant. It was updated, roomy (but small) and very welcoming. The bar area was nice as well. They have a decent amount of beers on tap. Apps: We split their wings. The combo had both the Jamaican Jerk and buffalo. The buffalo was perfect for me but too spicy for the lady. JJ was enjoyed by her. Entree: Med salad for her, Cheeseburger for me. Both were very good. The burger stood the challenge of a solid bun. The meat was tasty and seasoned well. It was also cooked to perfection. The salad was overflowing. Surprisingly a very good pick and a great place to have a drink & meal. Be mindful that it gets really busy on the weekend because there aren't many of these place in the immediate area. Pretty good pick in Florham Park, as its one of the only places in town with a bar and a place for families. Wait was a little rough in that it was 20 Min Plus and no where to sit when it's Cold. Food choices are varied - calamari was well seasoned but greasy. Cajun chicken sandwich was spicy and delish. Rack of ribs looked really hearty with a generous serving of fresh slaw. A safe choice for the whole family, Dad gets a beer, mom gets a salad, the kids get burgers and hopefully nobody fights LOL! The Thirsty Turtle combines a medium-size restaurant with a much larger bar and offers standard American fare at reasonable prices. They don't take reservations, at least they didn't when we tried on a Saturday. Lots of people standing around .. but the bar had a little room, whew! Just know that the place is CRUSHED about 6pm-ish when every kid wants to eat so delay a little, that crowd clears out about 7:30 and then there are plenty of tables. I always hope for craft beer and was pleased to see 16 taps here, including good stuff like Dogfish Head 60 min IPA and Stella, also less good stuff like Miller Light and Coors Lite (wait I got that backwards :). Alas half the tap lines had a wardrobe malfunction that evening but we made do with what came out of the other half. Proper pint glass was $6. Happy hour in the bar is actually new here (huh what?), about a buck off during the week. Not just for kids, this restaurant has full bar service and is a solid choice for adult conversation, manageable noise level even though every table was packed. I think the very high industrial-style ceilings must help the noise dissipate. We started with a tower of onion rings, called the "toss" because it looks like something at a carnival you'd throw rings at. They arrived mostly hot and crispy, with cajun mayonnaise and bbq sauces on the side, not crazy at $7. My dining companion loved her pretzel burger, which came with bacon, cheese and very very good french fries, just $11. A turkey burger was served on some kind of thin flatbread with those good fries, another good choice at $9; every topping is extra but even after adding mushrooms and cheese it's still only $11, pretty darned fair. Our waiter was friendly but prone to vanishing. He did appear once to apologize for the slow kitchen, they must have been way deep in the weeds, but we had fresh beers and friends to catch up with so didn't mind the delay. If you're toting a toddler you'll have quite a different opinion. Vegetarian rating: solid 3 stars, there are appetizer choices including those onion rings and guacamole, a pizza-like flatbread, a couple of interesting salads, a veggie burger and even an all-veg stir fry entree. I'm with Deborah D., nothing much exciting here, but they served us properly and we enjoyed a nice meal for a fair price, plus good beer selection so deserves the A-OK of 3 stars. read more
