I've been to many different eyebrow threading places but almost always end up leaving disappointed. However, the thread bar left me impressed! It's walk-ins only and they recently increased their price to $15 for threading. I thought the place was a little tricky to find but they have signs out on the street directing you to their door. I guess my only complaint is that they weren't the nicest when I walked in but their tone quickly changed. Every place I've been to has left my eyebrows too thin, even though I tell them not too. She listened to everything I wanted and made sure I was satisfied with the results. Although I'm a little bummed out about the price increase, I will DEFINITELY be coming back here. read more

I made an appointment online for 12:50 and showed up a couple minutes prior. I had to be back at work by 1ish. There was a girl waiting for her appointment, she gave me her spot which was a nice gesture. However, Aida went on about how she takes time with her clients' brows but in a totally condescending way and it made me very uncomfortable. The client and Aida made me feel bad for not being flexible to wait, I mean what is the point of appointment only? The whole vibe was SUPER cliquey. Although she did a great job with my brows and in a timely manner, her attitude and her clients attitude made me feel uneasy and very high school like. Definitely not necessary. I've gone to the Thread Bar twice so far. It came highly recommended by my sister who has been going to this place for years. It is on walk in basis, they don't take any advance appointments. The ambiance is cool & they play a nice up beat music in the background. Aida, the owner, does a fabulous job!! My previous brow lady had ruined the shape. So my brows were no longer symmetrical. Also I think another problem was that I got my brows done once every 2 weeks & as the result they became so thin & out of shape. Aida was able to fix them for me. She listened to me & did exactly what I asked her to do. I love my brows now, they are back to how they looked before. Aida has a great personality & she seems to care a lot for her clients. I used to be a royal customer here, but my latest experience changed my mind. I showed up on a Friday afternoon to find the place empty, except for one customer that was already inside getting her eyebrows done. Both Aida (owner) and Courtney were there, helping the girl at the same time....well, not really. It turned out that they were filming some entry for a reality TV show. They took their sweet time and giggled their way through the filming, while completely ignoring a customer that had just walked in. I had to wait about 15 minutes before Aida was ready to help me. The last time Aida did my eyebrows was about two years ago, when I first discovered The Thread Bar. She did a wonderful job back then. This time, it was TERRIBLE. She was distracted and chatting with the other girls in the room while she was doing my eyebrows. One of my eyebrow ended up being slightly thinner and higher than the other. WTF. I didn't really get a good look at my eyebrows until I got home...so it was too late to get them fixed. SIGH. The customer service has really gone down the drain...I guess it doesn't really matter because The Thread Bar is getting so popular and apparently hoping to get onto some reality TV show. I still like Courtney's work though. She has been pretty consistent...if I ever go back to The Thread Bar I would only let Courtney touch my eyebrows. read more

This is certainly my go-to spot for getting my brows back popping. After years of waxing abuse I decided to go the thread route and adore the look and ease over the wax. Pros of the Thread Bar (1) Super FAST, Aida will have you in and out within 10-15 mins. (2) They are super precise! Every brow hair is layed to perfection (3) Inexpensive- It's 10 bucks for brows and if you wanna add in your lips its an extra 3 bucks. (4) You never need an appointment. Since they are so fast its never a long wait and they take walk-ins. Cons (1) ONLY CON is that they only take cash. I hardly ever carry cash and when I have spur of the moment brow emergencies I have to make sure and stop by an ATM. Luckily there is a CVS across the street that has an ATM and does cash back. Overall love coming here. They are reliable and never too crowded to be able to get in and out. read more

After reading so many good reviews about The Thread Bar, I decided this to be the place where I get my first eyebrow threading done. And tht was one bad decision... Went there on a Wednesday, at around 5pm. I waited for at least 30 mins. I hoped it would worth the wait, but I was wrong. The whole process took less than 10 mins. And in that 10 minute time, I was criticized 3 times for plucking with a tweezer. First, I don't see any problem with plucking my brow, especially when you keep saying the same thing without explaining why. Second, now that I'm already here to have my brows threaded instead, what else do you want from me? On top of that, I got a cut on my eyelid. I was pretty sure that she noticed she cut my eyelid at some point, cause I did retract when I felt a sharp stinging feeling. But there was no apologize, no nothing! It turned out there's a thin line of blood on my eyelid near my eye when I looked in the mirror right after I left. Yes, it was fast, and the price was very affordable. But I'd rather pay more than to risk leaving a scar on my eyelid again!! read more

I have found the secret temple of the threading goddesses girls! Take it from a girl who will (used to) drive 30 minutes and pay $30 dollars for a good eyebrow wax...this place is the shizzy! We all know our beloved 'brows can either make or break our beautiful faces so why not go to the best? I have been a waxer all my life but at the urging of my best friend whose arches are always perfect and my wallet (eyebrows are only $7) I figured the only thing I had to lose was a few unwanted stray hairs. I would say choose Courtney (or ANY of the other workers) over Aida. I really like Courtney. She knows the eyebrow shapes that best flatter my face and even my boyfriend's face and does it in a quick and steady manner. Aida has a very bad attitude and low level of professionalism that I could sense immediately after I set foot into the threading area. I came in today to get my eyebrows done by Courtney and Aida kept snapping at me to wait in the correct spot. She also snapped at one of the receptionists for sitting in the "dog's chair"- a salon chair next to her. Seriously? No chill for her. Overall Courtney makes this place for me, but it's not worth being around the negative presence of Aida...I just don't feel welcome when she is around. Being Asian has one great advantage - we're not particularly hairy. I don't pluck and I've only gotten one eyebrow wax in my whole life. Although I've survived over 20 years without eyebrow maintenance, I decided that it's finally time to give those eyebrows some shape. The Thread Bar is perfect and Andrea made my first threading experience as quick and painless as possible. Since it was my first time, I figured that I needed to get my whole face threaded. The eyebrows, forehead, and chin portions were fairly benign. The lips and sides were slightly more sensitive but it was nothing that would make you cry. The Thread Bar has an fun, upscale feeling without the exorbitant prices. Even though it's located in a tiny second floor space, the decor is extremely welcoming. The waiting room area has two pink laptops surrounding a counter/bar area for customers to use when they're waiting. The main salon room has six stations set up with large mirrors and comfortable chairs. The tabletops of the stations are glass display cases with multi-colored reels of thread placed inside. I can definitely get see myself getting addicted to this place. It's just perfect! __________________________________________________________ 1/19/10 - Update: If you don't want the worst breakout that you've had in the last decade, it would be a good idea to skip threading the face. When I look at myself in the mirror, my face looks like the way I looked when I was in high school (not good!). She's the first threader I've ever had to actually take an interest in the long-term health of my brows. I say health because the way my face looks is actually related to my mental health, believe it or not. Hey, I was teased, mercilessly, as a child for many years--cut me a break. On my first visit here Aida knew right away that I need to grow my brows out--y'all know 'bout that predicament. "Put down the plucker," she scolded. "You need to put it down." I came back and she sorta remembered me and gave me a smidgen of praise for my new-found restraint with tweezers--"see your brows are stronger. You have freckles, so those will hide the strays. And you've got a pretty face, so they'll be distracted!" She's pretty great all around. I love that a smart, hot 20-something LA woman can run a business on her own in this mean city. The low-down is street parking in WW sucks, so circle the block a few times--it always works in a jam. Threading for brows is only $7 and full face is advertised for $22. When you walk up the little flight of carpeted apartment stairs and enter Thread Bar you can check your email, read a magazine, and listen to the loud jamz Aida's always blasting. To be completely honest, I came here because my regular esthetician was booked solid and I needed somewhere to clean up my brows for a last minute event. Upon my roomies recommendation, I found myself at Thread Bar. I walked up to the second floor & was greeted by some medium volume EDM, one girl waiting on a wooden bench with tons of magazines to flip through, and I smiled to myself as I sat down and admired a cute little hidden gem of a location. Since it was my first visit, I was prepared to tell whoever was going to service me to just clean up the shape of the top of my brow, clean up below the arch, not to fully shape up the arch and though the thicker arch shape outline was not exactly full...to leave it because I've been trying to thicken my arch for the past 3 months. After waiting for about 15 mins (walking in without an appointment around 11:30am on a Friday), I was taken back and before I even hopped up on the chair a girl whose name I later found out was Courtney, said: "You're growing out your eyebrows right?" Pleasantly pleased, I just sat down and felt as though I could trust her not to backtrack on the patiently earned 3 months worth of grown out eyebrows. I think it took less than 10 mins total...and I got my upper lip done too. While my eyes were still closed, another girl came by and asked if she wasn't going to clean up my arch. Courtney explained that I was growing out my eyebrows, and though my eyes were closed I felt really great that (a) the other girl was observant and willing to step in and be like heyyy, you should probably clean that up but also that (b) Courtney listened to me and left my still-growing-in-arch shape alone. This really showed me that these girls are perfectionists but that they also listen to their clients. Pretty much all you could ever ask for from the people that you're trusting your appearance with. Relative to my go-to spot for threading, Courtney's job really really felt clean. Though her thread seemed tougher and gave more of a pull -- I really felt like her threading job picked up more hair and gave a more polished finish to my brows, despite the fact that I've been growing them out. I walked out of there getting exactly what I wanted, and I'll definitely be back. BONUS: you get a punchcard!! every 10th appointment you get free!! umm, considering how often you go to get threaded...this is amazing!! definitely found my new go-to spot and will be recommending. read more

Courtney is my goddess. I love her for many many reasons but especially that: 1) She genuinely asks what shape you want - arches, points, etc. 2) She's relaxed and chill. Not overwhelming or condescending like some salonists/beauticians/waxers/threaders out there. 3) She takes all the extra time necessary to make everything perfectly even and get every spot. Even if it takes more than the usual 5-10 minutes. I think she spent like 15 minutes on my brows/lip, which I was incredibly thankful for. I don't want to move out of L.A. Located up the stairs from an unobtrusive door from the sidewalk on Westwood, The Thread Bar was a hidden jewel. The Thread Bar used to be the only place I would have my eyebrows threaded. Aida is great at what she does but she's a little bit fearsome. Sometimes temperamental and snappy but other times friendly and talkative. Andrea, however was great all the time. The other girls were sometimes good, sometimes not so good, but never as good as Aida or Andrea. And to wait for 30+ minutes for uneven eyebrows in a dreadful shame. But for $7, I still took the gamble. Now with Andrea gone, Aida rarely there, and prices raised by $2, I've found a new and better threading place to call home. read more

This was the first time I've ever gotten my eye brows professionally threaded. My friends and I have tried on ourselves, so I thought I'd try a professional pass after my roommate recommended this place. It's definitely hard to find since it's on the second story and most of the signs are not eye level. When we arrived there was a small wait for 2 girls in front of us. There were two girls threading, so it went relatively fast. For $8 to get eye brows and upper lip seems like a pretty good deal. The lady working on me was a little hard to understand and I clearly didn't understand how i needed to hold my eye lid down. Perhaps that's why i have a couple scabs where the thread caught some skin. Ouch. Overall, I was pleased with the shape of my brows, but could have done away with the painful skin pinching. i would consider coming back to try the other lady, who i heard from my friend is more the regular. First off, let's just say that I am the biggest and I mean the biggest baby when it comes to pain but there are times when it is completely worth it. and that time is once every three weeks when I get threaded. The first time I ever got threaded I about died, like seriously I was terrified. but with Aida (the owner who is fab) it wasn't as deadly. She is quick and efficient and for 7 bucks it is an awesome deal in Westwood. Other places charge you a lot more for a crappy job but I absolutely love Love LOVE what this woman does. I got my eyebrows threaded by Aida 11 days ago. I wanted to wait to write my review because I wanted to see how the eyebrows would fare. Usually, they get unruly a week or so after the threading. (I know what you're thinking - how hairy can one person possibly be? But I'm Indian, so leave me alone.) However, I am happy to report that, 11 days later, they still look really good. This can only mean that Aida really knows what she is doing. Aida is actually quite pleasant. When I came in, there was no one waiting and she was working on a client. She was polite, let me know that I would have to wait a bit and even talked to me while she was working on the other client. She has helpful pointers and opinions but she's also very willing to accommodate what you want. All in all, a good experience and I will definitely be going back to this place. read more

This place is painful, for some reason. Never experienced so much pain. They are very careful with your eyebrows. My eyebrows turned out great, which will last a couple weeks... BUT: This is like a UCLA Thread Bar. People will act professional to you and then have conversations and change their tone as they're doing your eyebrows. It's cool, just don't do it in front of me. Sad to say, but all good things must come to an end. Why? 1. Andrea moved. 2. They raised their prices by $2 across the board. Since Andrea left, I've had my eyebrows threaded a few times by another and it's just not the same. The whole experience is a tad more painful and I could tell by her movements that she was not as experienced as Andrea. The finished product was also inconsistent. One weekend my eyebrows looked fine. Another weekend, the job was terrible. And I mean terrible as in one arch was slightly higher than the other and the thickness of the brows did not match. On close examination, I could also see that the hairs had not been 100% plucked away since there were black dots where it should have been clean and smooth. URGH. Another thing that caught my attention recently was that the string they were using was causing me to have a slight allergic reaction. After each session where the thread rubbed, my skin was red, itchy, and a bit swollen. This would eventually subside after a few hours, but those with sensitive skin should definitely be careful. Still, the $10 eyebrow + lip threading price is hard to beat on the Westside. If you frequent this shop, the stamp card (10 sessions = 11th session for FREE) is a must have. Cash only. read more

After 6 punches on my customer loyalty card I stopped going here. Wanted to get my brows done after work one evening & I had 30 mins to get to their space before they closed on a Sunday. I broke my neck thru Westwood traffic to get there 15 mins before they said they closed, paid for parking, ran up the stairs to find their door locked. Could hear music on & talking, so I tried the knob & knocked. Someone on the other side giggled the lock to make sure IT WAS LOCKED. Ripped up my loyalty card & left it @ their front door. There are too many other brow places to inconvenience myself. Great if you're a college student - they are cheap & the work was pretty good - the owner showed me how to properly use a brow pencil. Three words: fast. cheap. painful. I came to The Thread Bar based on other reviews on Yelp. The last time I got my eyebrows threaded was about 7 years ago and it was not the most pleasant experience of my life. After about a month of not touching my eyebrows, something needed to get done because my eyebrows looked like a cross between myself at puberty and your father's unshaven asshole. I was torn between spending $30 and painlessly exposing my skin to premature sagging and aging via waxing or spending $8 and crying like a baby for [presumably] ten minutes. Not wanting to look like the dancers of Toothless Trixie's Topless Tavern, I chose the latter. I get to the building, walk upstairs, and find myself in a chic pink and black painted office space with a gorgeous (Persian?) woman named Aida standing behind the front desk clicking frantically on the mouse and keyboard and a landline phone wedged between her ear and her shoulder. After a few minutes, a customer walks out and Aida directs me into the parlor. The threader has me sit down and asks what type of shape I want and tells me I should probably grow my eyebrows out. She has me lay back and not even five minutes later with her kung fu quickness, she is finished. I look in the mirror and my eyebrows have NEVER looked better. I am quickly reminded that I have a mustache. "Lip?" "Sure." "This is going to hurt." "Uh, OK." Sure enough, it hurt worse than that time I went commando and got my pubes caught in my zipper. Summary: $7 for eyebrows alone, $8 for eyebrows with lip threading. Quick, cheap, painful, gorgeous looking, and you get a "thread 9 times, get one free" card. Parking is a BEE-EYE-OTCH though. Go. Let me start by saying that the owner of this place is a definite jerk!!! She is persian and i get it, there are a lot of persians in Los Angeles and I am absolutely ok with that. But she wouldn't own up to it. Trying to pretend like she is an all american girl and having attitude towards her foreigner customers is so unacceptable! Aida is AMAZING! She fixed what another thread bar had previously did to my eyebrows and gave me recommendations to make it better with the brow pencil she uses. She is a bit blunt and forward, but she's just being honest. She is quite funny! It is VERY affordable and she does a great job in a short amount of time! I've only gone twice, once was an okay wait time, the second time I made an appointment. Either wasn't that bad, but I did have a book with me when I came with no appointment. Okay so I'm huge fan of threading and have gone to several places.. so we decided to make this a family event.. mom, sister and myself all went to get our brows done and we had a wonderful quick, painless experience for a Saturday afternoon around 1pm. Since we just decided to walk in, I thought there would be a wait, but It was empty; the most we waited was 5 minutes. I believe I was seen by Aida and she did a wonderful job on my brows.. since I actually have brows she just defined them more then anything. My sister and mother where as well very please. The place is a little difficult to find because it's located on the second floor and the entrance is kind of squished in between two buildings but that's the only downfall. It's usually best to make reservations because although walk-ins are available, you might have to wait a while depending on the time and day. I am an Indo-Persian woman with extremely thick curly hair, with brows to match. I have extremely big, thick brows and one actually has a scar from a childhood injury where hair never grew back! It's always a bit complicated when i get them threaded because I am always worried about the symmetry and the desire for them to appear as natural as possible!! Aida does a beautiful job with the threading and takes great effort to ensure they come out looking so amazing and matching on all angles! I really like my brows from Courtney, they look really clean and natural. She's not talkative, instead she's very focused and attentive. However, I didn't like what Aida did, she seemed distracted and didn't follow my request. My eyebrows came out skinny and uneven because she took way too much off the bottom edge.
