Aida is great at eyebrows. A word to the thin-skinned: she's kind of catty and may also give you unsolicited beauty advice, so be prepared for that. Luckily, she has a good eye, so listen to what she's telling you. (She told me my haircut was jacked up, and she was right. No one else had told me. It pissed me off at first, but I fixed it and now it looks better.) Anyway, after a visit I always get compliments on my brows. In fact, I'm going later today. I've been coming here for a long time now and I can honestly say that the ONLY one that does my eyebrows perfectly and consistently is Aida. I've tried all the other girls, and yes they can clean them but when it comes to trimming Aida is THE ONLY ONE that gets it right. I'm Asian and I have some pretty unruly eyebrows. My hairs grow literally straight down. Seriously, if you trim them incorrectly they can look pretty retarded and it's pretty noticeable. Generally with most asians that have done my eyebrows they generally just make it super thin and call it a day, but Aida seriously takes the time to give me a nice shape. It's never too thin and her trimming is flawless. Did I also mention that my eyebrows are sparse in some areas too?? T_T So if you have crazy eyebrows like I do, try Aida!! You won't regret it!! I have been getting my eyebrows threaded for a couple years now, and when I moved down to LA it was getting to hard for me to wait months to get them fixed up again. So in my search I stumbled upon the yelp reviews about the Thread Bar and decided to give it a shot. Upon arriving there the place seemed nice, it had a nice pink decor and laptops that you could go on while you were waiting. It seemed like everything was going well until I sat down in the chair and asked Aida to clean them up and reshape them. Her response was not warming at all. Instead of giving me other options she gave me a mini lecture about I was doing wrong to them. I could appreciate her tips, but I could have done without the attitude that came with it. Overall the service was okay, but defeinitly not an amazing threading job for me to go back to endure the snooty attitude. read more

Honestly, I feel a little sexier every time I walk out of this place. My eyebrows looks amazing and complement my eyes so well. They look bangin'! The Thread Bar has pretty much single-handedly ruined any other eyebrow salon for me by setting my standards SO high! I don't know what they do to them, but they are always near perfection. Trust me, they know eyebrows! I used to live a block away and would subsequently walk over, but now that I'm living 50+ miles away, I'll drop by any chance I get. Their experience shines through, as I have gone to other places that have left my skin irritated or simply just not to my liking. Andrea is wonderful! By far, my favorite person in there. She is very attentive & receptive to customers. Aida can seem a little too chatty sometimes, but she's very friendly and works efficiently w/out sacrificing quality. The thread bar is my go-to stop as a UCLA student who can't afford to splurge on beauty rituals. Location is fantastic since it's located right on Westwood Blvd. although that does make parking a little difficult if you're driving. There's often a really long wait. Because the prices are so cheap, so many people come during work breaks and before/after class to get brows done. It's best to go in off-peak hours, but be prepared to wait no matter what. Love the fact that they bring their dog to the salon. He's super cute and provides some kind of entertainment while you wait. Brow artists are often friendly, but I usually don't receive as great of service as the true regulars. Since I'm broke I only go about once a month to get my brows done, and it's usually an in and out experience rather than a conversational one, which is fine with me. Compared to other salons, the artists aren't as precise or careful with their work, but they get the job done and for a fantastic price. If you're looking for top-notch service this isn't the place for you, but if you're just looking for a clean up I would definitely recommend Thread Bar. They also have stamp cards for people who plan on returning regularly. Pro Tip: bring a book or some sort of activity to keep you occupied in case you get stuck in a long wait line. read more

I've been to many threading places and I can say that at least for now, this is the one for me. I've been a customer for about a year now and I'm extremely picky. The Thread Bar is clean, has plenty of new magazines in the waiting area, and the prices are unbeatable. I love that there is a sign posted outside of the door that says "this is a cell phone free area". Finally, somebody got it right! Aida and her staff are very professional, and won't let you leave until you're happy with your brows. I usually get mine done by Aida, but have had them done with the other girls and they have always done a superb job. Not really sure why there are so many negative reviews on here.. especially about them not being friendly. Listen, people are here to work, not chat. I appreciate that in a business, nobody has time to listen to your whole life story. I like the fact that when I sit down, they get right to business and have you in quickly and out looking fabulous. They are quick and cheap. The punch card gets you a free threading after 10 punches. Sometimes it gets crowded, but since they work so quickly it's not usually a problem. There's also a small dog that's usually there, so that's cute. It would be nicer if they took credit cards though! read more

I had never gotten anything done on my eyebrows before, so when my friend said she wanted to try threading, I thought this would be a great opportunity to start looking decent =P We went one day after work and it was an awesome experience. The shop is tiny and a little difficult to find cuz I wasn't aware that it was located on the second floor. But it was a cute and cozy place, lots of pinks and the lady was really nice. She's chatty and friendly, and offers genuine, unsugarcoated, good advice about lots of stuff, from beauty to personal relationships. And the price is very reasonable too I think, $8 for brows and upper lip. I was very pleased with the results. Threading wasn't as painful as I thought it would be, but it does hurt a little. I adore the Thread Bar. After trying Vinitas (bad shaping) and Ziba (eyebrow stuble?), and not being pleased, I began driving to Santa Monica to get my eyebrows threaded and became increasingly annoyed at the trek and the price($14). I received a flier for the thread bar and thought I would give a whirl, and boy am I glad I did. Andrea and Aida are AMAZING. They are perfectionist. They even notice the subtle nuances in my growth from visit to visit. I've been going her for several months now. You can't beat $7 for eyebrows and $8 for eyebrow and lips. They are both very good and quick. I go on my lunch break and I have time left over to eat! My experiences with the ladies are enjoyable as I always leave in a timely manner after a job well done. Have come here often since I've moved to LA to get my eyebrows threaded. Everyone here is great -- love the way they shape my eyebrows (doesn't feel like they're just rushing you through). And for 7 bucks, nothing can beat it in LA. I have (err.. had) the bushiest and thickest eyebrows and if it wasn't for the ladies of thread bar, I would be the next asian frida. I've always done my own eyebrows and that turned out to be a disaster. My friend took me to the thread bar where I got my upperlip and brows done for $8, which is pretty damn cheap! NO CARD. ALL CASH. Definitely cried my first time. But unintentionally! My sensitive eyes teared up on their own. People probably thought, pfffft this wusss. My eyebrows look good, I will admit that. Price ($9) is a great deal, as well. However, the service I received was not so great. I don't even know her name, but a Black girl in her 20s threaded my eyebrows. I felt like she was rushing me the whole time, and she barely even listened to me when I was telling her what I wanted to do with my eyebrows (add more of an arch). Granted, she did a good job, but I was almost scared of her because she just wanted to finish doing my brows and move on with her job. My eyebrows are kind of fickle. One is sort of higher than the other, and one gets thinner at the end than the other. I've gotten them waxed at a countless number of salons and threaded at a few other places, but The Thread Bar is the only place that I've been to that seems to successfully take care of these problems for me. I've been threaded by three different ladies here, most recently by Andrea. They all do a really great job. I leave with my eyebrows nicely cleaned up, and the hair removal lasts a really, really long time. I know that that's supposed to be characteristic of threading, but I swear, The Thread Bar provides the longest-lasting hair removal that I've ever had. In my experience, The Thread Bar is ALWAYS crowded. I've been there at nearly every hour of their business day, and I've always had to wait. Even right after they open, at 11:00 am, I can't be out in less than an hour! But I think the threaders' expertise (and the frequent threadee card) is worth the slight time inconvenience. I definitely recommend parking further from Westwood Blvd. in the non-metered stalls. It might be worth mentioning that The Thread Bar is not for the claustrophobic... It's kind of the most cramped waiting area ever, and all the music they play are loud remixes of club hits. The selection of gossip mags provides a good distraction, though. read more

LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Before the Thread Bar opened, I was going to a place in the Westside Pavilion, which charges almost twice as much for the same services. While the wait here can be a while (they are that popular, and they don't take appointments), if you are smart about it and go during off hours or first thing in the morning or right before closing, you can avoid it. Adia is hilarious. Just roll with her. I hear they may open a new branch in Downtown. Smart girl! Parking is a little difficult. You can try meters on the street or in the residential areas. I've always past by this place before and I finally decided I had to see if this place lives up to the hype. Wow does this place have a fan-based or what?! It opens at 11am but there was already a small group waiting (no appts so come early!!) I really like this place. They are my go-to groomer. In addition to really good results, it is really cheap. They even give you a frequency card which is pretty cool. Very useful when you're completely broke. ***EDIT*** There is one thing that I was quite disappointed with though. I brought a friend of mine over to get a consultation (of some kind). She has irregular eyebrow and Aida just dismissed her. Told her that with her brows, it's best to keep them natural. This irked me a lot. I am an Indo-Persian woman with extremely thick curly hair, with brows to match. I have extremely big, thick brows and one actually has a scar from a childhood injury where hair never grew back! It's always a bit complicated when i get them threaded because I am always worried about the symmetry and the desire for them to appear as natural as possible!! I went here for the first time about two weeks ago, after walking around the threading booths at my local mall for MONTHSSSS and being unable to decide whether or not i wanted to try threading. The booths around my house charge $10-15 for the service though, so I decided to wait until I got back to LA, so I could try Thread Bar. And man, am I glad I waited. At $7 a visit ($8 if you also want upper lip.. I skipped this add-on) Thread Bar is pretty much as cheap as it gets for threading. The store is really small and hard to find if you're not too observative ( I think I made 3 passes before I finally realized it was UPSTAIRS ) but the inside is comfy and quaint and a little messy in the homey kinda way. The stylist herself is loud spoken and opinionated. I read a lot of reviews that talked about how mean she was, but I don't really agree. I just think she has a strong personality, and she isn't afraid to voice her opinion. In my case, she repeatedly complemented me for the fact that I have pretty thick brows for an Asian (o.o), and insisted that I try to leave them as thick as possible (although, she said she'd do them thinner if I REALLY REALLY wanted them thinner). She did a really good job with my brows though. I love the shape and the thickness is just right. She left a few strays here and there but I was in and out in under 30 minutes (spectacular considering there was a line of 3-4 people in front of me). The actual time I spent in the chair was probably around 5 minutes. You get a punch card on your first visit, and a free threading on your 10th visit (which is an amazing bonus considering how cheap Thread Bar already is!) The store is CASH ONLY (make sure you have cash! I spent like.. 20 minutes running around looking for an atm...). The stylist told me to come back every 2-3 weeks for upkeep, but I think it's perfectly feasible (and much cheaper) to maintain the shape yourself. If I ever get lazy and let my brows get unruly though, I'm definitely going back to Thread Bar :D read more

And I love it all the more because the owner is from Chicago! =) I always get the eyebrow and upper lip special. The wait can be long sometimes, but the service is great as are the results, so it's totally worth it! Came here after hearing a strong recommendation from a co-worker who also had a very bad experience at Ziba. Though the location is very hard to find ( it's one block north of Borders bookstore, across the street, upstairs in a very small shop) Why it's awesome: * $8 for brows and upper lip is a steal compared to both Ziba and especially Brow Bar. * punch card - come 9x and the 10th (brow) service is on them * they actually LISTEN to you and consult you on what/where/how they'll shape/clean your brows and point out any other observations they may have which I really appreciated. It wasn't like other previous brow places where you'd state your concerns, lie down and then sit up to find a total surprise on your face *small shop, but decor is very nice, and internet access while you wait (awesome!) * the threadist had great attention to detail and was very communicative in her consultation of how to fix the botch job the last threading place did. Words for the wise * there isn't a place to "write your name down" per se, but make sure you check in with who ever is managing the waiting room (she also might be threading) as she notes the "order" by memory. If you leave to feed your meter ( I heard it can get busy - avoid Friday/weekend lunch) or run downstairs to grab something, make sure you let her know so she reserves your place in line * closed on Monday * parking can be frustrating (like its EVER easy on Westwood Blvd.) Coming back? Once you thread, you never go back to waxing. It's just so much more precise. And as bad as I feel about not seeing my usual eyebrow waxer anymore, the girls at The Thread Bar and my perfect eyebrows after every visit are a fair consolation. It's fast, cheap, and not very painful! And you can avoid the wait if you go really early or during non-rush hours, which shouldn't be a problem if you live in the area (you kind of need to live in the area to find the place). But really.. perfect brows for under $10. My college student budget thanks you. read more

Holy F threading hurts like a mother! It makes waxing look like cake. I tried threading on a recommendation from a friend who swears by it and always tells me I'm going to get wrinkles from waxing... It hurt, however with an $8 pricetag for brows and lip and the way natural shape of my newly sculpted brows I will likely be back. I had my eyebrows threaded for the first time a few months ago here at The Thread Bar, and although it was a little bit painful, I loved the end result. I came back this past weekend (after ignoring my eyebrows for wayyy too long) and Andrea not only remembered me but did a quick consult - she helped me shape my eyebrows, asked me if I wanted them thinner, and overall did a very thorough job. Threading vs. Waxing?!?! I think that having your eyebrows threaded gives you a more natural look and fuller eyebrow. Whether you are a first timer or a veteran, I highly recommend doing them here. Eyebrows costs only $7 and that is honestly the cheapest price I've ever come across. Plus, if you want to do your lips it is only $1 more ($8 together, $3 if you want to do just lips). There are meters right in front or just drive around the neighborhood for some street parking (free). The Thread Bar does *not* accept appointments - it is walk ins only and first come first serve. Even though I live in San Diego, I love the Thread Bar so much that I'm going to try to stop by every time I swing by LA. read more

I usually come to this place for my brows to be threaded and have a fabulous time waiting with other patrons talking about current events and fashion. However, this summer I went to The Thread Bar and I would usually wait for the owner to do my brows but unfortunately, she was not there. There was a young female who was pregnant and another young funky and fresh female who were there doing brows. I was called up next and I was summoned by the young funky and fresh female who was new to the establishment. She had relaxed me and she gotten down to the nitty gritty of getting my brows to the lovely shape im used to by the quality of The Thread Bar. Luckily for me, I came out with two amazing different shaped eyebrows (please note the sarcasm). I am now still trying to grow my brows to be at least even. It's a sad case when you have two great shaped eyebrows but one is thin and the other is thick ( I have literally two faces!). lol read more

Threading is better than Waxing, HANDS DOWN! I have an extremely sensitive skin which puffs up for at least 36 hours after I get something waxed. Luckily for me, I discovered threading and have loved it ever since. The Thread Bar is the best place to get your eyebrows done in the LA area for super cheap: $7 + tip, but cash only. They do a pretty good job there, but not great. They always leave my eyebrows more bushy than I want them. Even when I ask to make them thinner, they insist on keeping it the same. It's slightly frustrating. Also, the owner of the place is extremely rude. It may be her personality, or because she's obviously successful with her own business, but there is no reason to be so aggressive and rude to your customers. Just the way she talks and does things, is not the sweetest (as the other yelpers have written). Either way, if you need your eyebrows done, threaded, and for a decent price. This is definitely the place. Also, for every 10 times you go, you get a session free -- also not too shabby! read more

I'm so upset I'm shaking.. Everybody knows how important eyebrows are. And the reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because I usually have a decent experience. But today this curly haired african american girl did my eyebrows. I could tell she was rushing cause there were a couple people waiting.. Not only did she butcher my right eyebrow which now has a white border around the hair of my eyebrow... She tried to make the left one match and cut my eyebrow hair so awkwardly that I now have a bald spot.. When I came back into my car and did a close up inspection, I almost started crying. The thread bar was great, and Aida does an amazing job.. But after today's experience I think I'm scarred for life. --update back to 5 stars!-- so i emailed Aida at thethreadbar@hotmail.com. I told her about my experience and she apologized and offered me 3 free eyebrow threading sessions. She also gave me her number so that I could text her before I came in to make sure she could take care of me. Very glad with the type of response i got from her. I love coming here to get my brows done. I do the $18 lip and eyebrow combo. They take the time to explain what they're doing to my eyebrows and they can always tell when some other salon did a crap job. They've been working on making my eyebrows thicker with better shape. I also have a scar on my eyebrow so they work on trying to hide it with keeping the hairs longer around there. Aida does a great job but so does everyone that works there. OMG She is the ONLY person who gets my eyebrows exaaaaaccctly how I want them every time I go there. She just gets it. She is so nice and funny. She always tells me that I'm the hairiest Asian eyebrow she has seen. I can't believe this place is only $7!!! On top of their cheap prices, they even give you a punch card where you get a service for FREE on the tenth service. I feel bad for Andrea when she is the only worker there and it gets extremely busy. I feel like she is overworked, but I guess she's gotta do what she's gotta do.
