This store is massive but there are no fitting rooms!!! It's so hard to shop a thrift store if you can't try on. Also no mirrors. People were trying jackets and sweaters on over their clothes in the aisles but most things were bought blindly. There's not a huge selection of furniture but big selection of shoes, clothes, purses, and men's ties. They won't sell anything if the tag fell off. Clothes are separated by category and color. It was pretty busy on a Saturday morning. The line was long but relatively fast. I'll definitely go back for shoes and purses but will probably skip for clothes since there aren't fitting rooms. read more

This place had its ups and downs. Some downs included some shoes and jackets priced for $49 a piece. Also instead of putting a sticker on the clothes to price them, they stapled the price tag onto the items. I had to painstakingly removed staples from the hats I purchased that were stapled to the bills of the hats. With that being said there were some ups to the visit as well. The cashiers were very sweet and efficient, and I did find some decently priced items amidst the overpriced selection. read more

When I went, it was evident that this place is a hot spot for people looking to score vintage clothing at a steal. All the t-shirts are from the past 15 years, and there wasn't a pair of jeans older than 19 years in the building. I still was able to find a couple killer 90's letterman jackets, a few amazing jumpsuits, and a pair of Guess and Dickies overalls. This isn't a Goodwill, so be prepared to spend more that $5 an item. Overall, a great space to check out, but can easily get pricier than you realize for a thrift store. As far as variety, I'd give it 5 stars BUT here are the issues - Biggest one is their crazy love of thick tape! It's on EVERYTHING and not just to close boxes, they'll wrap it ALL around the box! I've spent hours so far peeling off tape and then using Goo Be Gone so I can actually use what I've bought. Take my advice and just use tape where necessary. The other issue was that aisles were small and you couldn't get cart down them and way too crowded. Good inventory but I won't be back. read more

The price of some items are to high they always check eBay before they price the items. Also the books are way to high,they will put a $12.00 price on a book and that same book on Amazon will be less than a dollar. And some of these broken toys are way to high sometime you are better off going to the dollar store. And they always take cash only so the state government will never know that they are ripping people off get it (No paper trail) read more

I've donated to VVA for many years over my 20 years in the Military and that of being retired Military. I've donated thousands of dollars of goods but no more. They refused to accept a NEW Home Semi-powered Medical Bed that was fresh out of the box. It included the side rails and medical grade new mattress. They arrived and said, "No, we'd just throw it in the trash." Age you kidding me? This was a New, never used bed in transport configuration for the driver. They said, "No, it's trash." Screw them and their ignorance. This makes me wonder what else they consider "trash?" I'll never donate to them again. read more

Very unprofessional manager named Sheldon that just gave poor excuses for poor conduct from his employees they tried to double charge me instead of giving me the discount that I have been given previously every Wednesday he actually teetered on calling me the bad guy and a liar when I never asked for a discount in the past, the employee offered it to me, He took no responsibility in the fact that he has not trained all of his employees if he wants them to make it 55 and over he should tell them I cannot imagine what he is doing instead of his job, Someone should look into it. Wow, what an amazing thrift store! There is an incredible offering owing to the massive layout. Everything is well-organized and the sales associates are great about constant restocking. Women's clothing is very well organized. The racks are clearly labeled and each aisle has matching color-coordination. Pricing is extremely fair, I found an Anne Fontaine white blouse for $5 and Vince Camuto pumps that were brand new for $10. Lots of shoes, purses and women's clothing. A great selection of housewares and menswear. I wasn't able to check out the jewelry or books but those sections also looked daunting. Be forewarned: this place is cash only, though there is an ATM. Saturday is half off everything- go early! Otherwise locate the electric sign at the front of the store for daily specials. Price tag colors show how long an item has been there, with red being the newest. With plenty of time to hunt and a pocket of cash, there are some great things to be found! read more

Am I really the first person on here to say that this place felt sketchy? Maybe I just had a bad experience but... As I was walking in, there was a line of men outside who looked me up and down while I was just trying to walk in (and no, I did not dress revealing. Unless you think baggy jeans with holes, a t-shirt and a ball cap on is asking for attention). They didn't have what I was looking for at the price that I was willing to pay, so I walked out, avoiding the men who were still outside. As I was walking out to my car(ignoring a man trying to talk to me) someone else asked for a ride. No, I'm not trying to draw conclusions, but she was pushing herself into getting in the car with me which made me feel EXTREMELY uneasy. I noticed something in her shopping cart that seemed a little-well-possibly illegal. Of course, I didn't give her a ride, and she walked angrily away from my car. I suppose I might be easily scared off since I was by myself, young and female, but I felt so nervous around this place. Since I'm the first person to mention the sketchy feeling, perhaps that's the case. If you come here, I recommend coming with a buddy. read more

To sum up: This is my favorite thrift store in Jacksonville. + Humongous selection + Good deals on tag sales + Seriously takes effort NOT to find anything you want + Bigger, cleaner location on Emerson than it was on Atlantic - No dressing rooms (see *** for explanation and workaround below) - Cash only, but there is an ATM - Probably about half the stuff is decently priced. The rest is overpriced and definitely requires a half-price tag sale to make it reasonable. - Not organized by size To explain: I've been a big fan of The Thrift Store for almost the whole decade since I moved to Jax. I'm pretty sure it has the most clothing items of any thrift store in Jax. This is where I go if I need a clothing fix without breaking the bank, a specific item, or have visitors who want to do some thrifting. (The latter happens frequently as probably 90% of my wardrobe is thrifted from our stores and my friends are envious. ;) We usually hit this one first with the intention of going elsewhere, but nine times out of ten my friends will have filled up their suitcases with their finds here so we never go to any others.) There is so. much. stuff here. My brother and husband, who always complain about how there's never anything their sizes at thrift stores, have both found things here. (Or rather I've found them for them; they lack the patience to thrift.) Of the 90% of my wardrobe that's thrifted, probably at least 50% of that is from The Thrift Store. I find premium jeans, designer dresses, cashmere sweaters, and tons of mall brands pretty much every time I go. (They're not always in my size, but that's thrifting for ya.) I literally have never gone there and not purchased *something*. Usually a clothing item, but often a game, toy, mug, or book, as they have plenty of each. Their prices are really random. Many items are $5 or less. Most are $10 or less. Some are higher, which is pretty annoying when you realize this is a thrift store. And I also noticed that their prices got higher when they moved from Atlantic to Emerson. With the half-price tag sales the higher-priced stuff could be worth it to you, or not. It depends on your rule for thrifting. My usual rule is that if you personally would have paid double for it brand new at the original store, or if you added $10 to the price you'd still buy it, it's worth considering. And for Pete's sake, don't put back a shirt for $7 that you really like simply because that tag isn't half price. $7 for a shirt you really like is a good deal even if it's not "on sale". *** The lack of dressing rooms can be a real turnoff to people. When the store moved to Emerson I mentioned to one of the cashiers that I had hoped they'd have dressing rooms once they moved. She said that they have tons of shoplifting already and dressing rooms would only make that easier. Once again, the selfish few have made things worse for the law-abiding many. My visitors have all been warned about the lack of dressing rooms, and usually find it very amusing to do the workaround, which is as follows: - Take your cart of goodies to one of the three mirrors in the store. There's one at the end of the tall dress rack in the middle aisle that cuts through the center of the store width-wise, one over by the ATM, and one over by the shoes/purses against the far right wall when you walk in. - To try on tops: women, wear a camisole or sports bra under your shirt, and try things on over it. This will enable you to try on just about any top or dress without having to give anyone a show. Men, obviously you can take your shirt off, or simply revel in the fact that men's sizing is quite consistent across all brands. #bitter - To try on bottoms: women, you can either wear opaque leggings, yoga pants, bike shorts, or a skirt. If the first three, you can remove any bottoms over them and feel pretty well covered. If the latter you can try things on directly under your skirt. If I don't feel like wearing a skirt I usually just grab a nice stretchy one off the rack and use that as a "changing skirt". Put it on over your pants, then unsnap/unzip your pants underneath and pull 'em down. Men, you could totally do the changing skirt thing too, but I never have seen any men do it. Again, I presume it's because men's sizing is consistent; if I buy my husband any pants in his size they always fit. :p Anyway, as weird as this may sound, I can assure you TONS of people do it, from stylish teenagers to little old ladies, and everyone in between. The only people who'll look at you weird are those who've never been there before. All in all I'd give this 4.5 stars. It probably seems like I should knock off more than half a star for being cash only, often overpriced, not having dressing rooms, and not organizing by size, but I've found so much great stuff over the years I just adore it! read more

We have saved a ton of money on clothes through the years so we can travel instead. If you look for quality and shop smart you can get good deals. I personally don't enjoy spending $100 on one item of clothing which is easy to do at Banana Republic. But with a combination of luck, frugality, and perseverance we regularly find Banana Republic, Gap, Old Navy, American Eagle, Calvin Klein, Vans and Aeropostale plus some wicked cool Vintage items. Imagination and good shoes go a long way. read more

I first started with this thrift store when they were at their old location- and followed them to Emerson when they moved here..I remember the sheets used to be labeled S-T-F-Q-K-..but now you have to open the sheet and guess the size..The old system was better. otherwise, I shop here several times a week and can't wait for them to re-open after the pandemic! This place is huge but they have gotten ridiculously overpriced. $9.95 for a plain glass vase? $14.95 for a donated used ladies blazer? $29.95 for a set of metal vases? Those are retail prices in many stores today. They seem to price on a label name regardless of condition. While there were some clothing items that I found that were a good deal there were many clothing and household goods items I left exactly where they were because I knew I could buy a brand new one for close to the same price. And they only take cash. I personally won't be going as often much less donating. read more

My review is strictly from the donating side of things. They have a drop off at the back of the building. Unlike most thrift stores they do not have anyone to help you unload. Fine, however, I was told to move my SUV back down the alley beside the building instead of being allowed to pull up to the donation area. At first I thought it might be because one of their trucks was pulling out - but it wasn't. So I went inside and asked could anyone help me with bringing in my load. I was snapped at with an angry "no". I understand overworked, I understand understaffed, I understand being buried in work but I don't understand being made the brunt of someone's frustration with all that. I would have even understood a "gee, I'm sorry we are swamped today - can you bring them in tomorrow?" . I would have. I'm taking my donations elsewhere. If you donate there, I hope you're made to feel appreciated and have a better experience than I did. I'm still taking my donations elsewhere. read more

I used to really love them when they were on beach blvd,and I still sorta do because you can find some very nice things very cheap. BUT,they have some issues that have cut down my visits considerably. First of all,you MUST check any glass or porcelain very carefully before you buy it as they love to put the price tags over chips,scratches and nicks. This has happened far too much to be coincidental. And as we all know,glass or china that has imperfections lose 95% of their value. Secondly,more than once Ive gotten things home and they reek of pet smells or nicotine ! Especially furniture and art. So make sure you smell it really well . Lastly,and this is the most annoying thing by far to me,they have a certain group of customers that stand by the doors where they come out of with the carts that immediately start snatching anything good. It is utterly ridiculous to watch them descend like vultures ! There should be a rule that you cant snatch stuff off a cart like that. All that being said,its still a great place to find a treasure,the management/pricers aren't nearly as smart as they think they are and some fine things can still be had. Like a solid silver chinese box for $3 ! You have to be patient and pick through tons of dreck. Also,the aisles are crammed and if its busy it can be a real hassle to move around. read more

This is normally my go to thrift store in Jacksonville but lately I don't want to even step foot in there. Staff is extremely rude and nasty. Rules are in place for social distancing yet you pick and chose who you want to verbally abuse over not following your rules. I walked in the store and much to my surprise things had been re-arranged and while trying to find my way through the congestion at the front door I ended up going down the wrong way before I realized there were now designated arrows for traffic. My mistake, I will own that but one of the staff who was busting through the same aisle coming towards me with a buggy, about to run into me all the while glaring at me like I'm an idiot as she went by very aggressively said "you're going down the wrong way!" Ok. I get it, but there's a nice way to address people and you're lacking in that area. After that I attempted to pick up a dress off a rack that a staff member was adding to the current inventory and I was told I can't touch the clothes. I'm sorry, everyone in there is touching the clothes and everything else in the store. I'm confused. How is anyone suppose to shop? In the meantime there's a lady in there with her two kids running around in and out of clothes racks, climbing on stuff, causing chaos and moms walking around with her mask pulled down the whole time and not one person addressed her along with numerous others not following the one way rule, yet I'm made to feel like an idiot less than 3 minutes into my shopping experience. I think the staff needs some much needed training in how to be civil to your customers, half the staff acts like they hate their job and don't want to be there and the others downright don't care about anyone as they rudely cut you off on every aisle as they put out items, never the first I'm sorry or excuse me! It takes two seconds to be nice and act like a human being yet no one is practicing common courtesy but the customers are "expected" to follow your rules in order to shop. If there are rules in place to keep everyone "safe" and you want to enforce those rules then you need to be consistent in how your policing your store. Things are bad enough with this pandemic. We all need to practice a little more kindness and stop being so rude and hostile when we're in public places. read more

THIS IS THE BEST THRIFT STORE I HAVE EVER FOUND and even though I now live in Tallahassee, I have been known to conjure up trips to Jacksonville just so that I can get a "The Thrift Store fix." To piggyback onto Bethany B.'s "workarounds" for trying on clothes, a one-piece swimsuit works really well also -- especially when trying on dresses. Obviously, you have to feel comfortable stripping down to nothing but a swimsuit in front of possible onlookers. Like Bethany said though, only people who haven't shopped at this store before will find this unusual. (NOTE: Try to wear a suit with a built-in bra that fits similarly to a bra you'd wear under a dress; that way, it gives you a more accurate fitting to determine if the clothing item will really work for you.) As a shopper at this store for 20+ years, I was seriously shocked only once when I saw a young woman strip down to... NOT a bikini......... but her ACTUAL bra and underwear! I don't know why people are here bashing this store. This store is the number one thrift store in Duval County. I don't go there to evaluate the workers. I go there to find great buys. I've purchased many dishware and pots that are very expensive to purchase in Macy's or anywhere. They are awesome with the variety of antique/vintage items and clothes to chose from that no other store sells. NOT even Goodwill. So people stop the madness. There's no other store that gives you discounts for every color ticket except one. Nowhere. Antique lamps, chairs, books forever to choose from, kitchen items I haven't seen before, and nice inexpensive winter clothing. I LOVE THIS STORE. I won't shop ANYWHERE ELSE. I arrive to the store in the morning and leave in the evening because I take my time. Now if I a person donates something, I don't blame "The Thrift Store" if they refuse to take donations they don't feel appropriate. They have to make sure that that particular item is useful to people. Quality stuff. Not just anything just because it was donated. Thank you "Thrift Store" for doing what you do. I will be your customer for life. Even if I moved out of town, I know there's a place for me to go when I come back to Jacksonville to visit. Don't change a thing.. We love you "The Thrift Store". I am a older (Male ) customer that has shopped there for years. I went in today 8/06/2014 caring a black hand bag (like the one you use at WinnDixie to carry home your food) it had in it all the things I use to carry on my the day. ie check book,eyeglasses,wallet,sunglasses, change ,Qupons ect,ect,ect. I was told I needed to give it to the clerk behind the conner as I could not carry it in to the store. I was polite and never reaised my voice at any time and asked I see other with bags why do I have to give up mine? I was only told to do it and if I did not I would be taken out of the store. I then said I see many many (almost all) the ladys in the store hand their hand bags as they where shopping and told they did not have to store them . I feel that Me being a Male or some other reason I have yet to be told why? could not have a hand bag as I shopped. I show the Manager my bagg and then showed the things I had inside and said It was my hand bag SHE then said You carry a hand Bag do You? ? i feel like since they've moved, the store has downgraded a bit. the layout is a little wonky and random, it's a bit dirtier, the shoe section is more disorganized. the thing i've been wondering for the longest time is where they donate their proceeds to and how much. how much of it is of the /donation/ nature? or is it for profit? anyways, without thinking too hard into it they have a lot of stuff. lots of tshirts, lots of jackets. this is a big thrift store with a lot of stuff. sometimes items are marked up too high for what they are. if you need something, it is probably here. read more

Beware! I was visiting Jacksonville and came upon this thrift store. When I walked in there were strips of paper that had the date on it and what the specials were for that day. I was there Feb 17 2017 and White tags were 50% off and Green and Red were 75% off. I looked through a lot of items and never did find a Green or Red tag. Only noticed a few white ones. read more
