I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at Uptown Cheapskate. I came in hoping to resolve an issue involving a bag that was donated without my consent, and instead I encountered one of the most unprofessional and unpleasant interactions I've ever had with store management. The manager on duty, Leslie De La Cruz, was shockingly rude, dismissive, and made absolutely no effort to understand or address my situation. The bag in question wasn't just any item it was a meaningful gift from a cherished friend, and it was donated without my approval. I approached the store calmly, simply looking for a reasonable resolution. Instead of listening or offering even a hint of assistance, Leslie repeatedly shut me down, showed no empathy for my discomfort, and acted as if my concerns were an inconvenience. All I asked for was a basic form of compensation, such as a refund or a gift card equal to the value of the donated bag. This was a fair and respectful request given the circumstances, yet the manager chose to offer nothing not even a sincere apology. This experience has left me extremely dissatisfied, not only because of the loss of a sentimental item, but because of the unacceptable treatment I received from someone who is supposed to represent the store's values. Customers deserve respect, understanding, and professionalism, none of which were shown to me during this interaction. I truly hope Uptown Cheapskate addresses this issue, because no one should have to go through what I did just to seek a simple and reasonable resolution. read more

They have a great selection to choose from and a large selection of sale items. They offer the ability to sell your own items for store credit or cash. This review is strictly regarding the selling process at this location. I arrived 15m after opening & was quoted a 35-45m wait if I stay in-store. (The terms for drop off are not something I would agree to. There is another review here that explains it well). I shopped, tried items on, and then waited & waited. The restroom is out of order, so you have to notify the staff if you have to step out so they don't change you to a "drop off." I returned & noticed my two bags were under the counter. I asked the staff member who checked me in if that meant they had or hadn't been reviewed yet. She said it meant they had & kept working. I waited near the front for another 10m & watched them not touch my bags (I wasn't sure if there was another step in their process). At this point, I had been waiting 1h & 45m for the text notifying me that my offer was ready. I walked back up to the counter & only then did the same employee ask if I had received my text. I had not & my stuff had been ready. An absolute waste of at least an hour of my time. Funny that a text from them asking me to rate my visit came through in less than an hour after I left. read more

Dropped off two bags of clothes on a Saturday and had checked off to be texted when my pick up was ready. never received a text so figured they were backed up until I just called today (a Tuesday) and asked the status of my drop off. They let me know that it all been passed on and therefore had all been donated since it's been over 24 hours since drop off. they said maybe I wasn't opted into text messages and that's why I never received any sort of text even though I selected to be notified when my items were ready to be picked up. So not only did I make any sort of money; I was also never alerted and all of my things which were in good condition were donated. First time here and it was fantastic!!! I know I am a bit late to the game because many people were in the store today, and I have seen several Yelp friends talking about this place. There are so many options for my teenage daughter, my husband and myself. Sometimes it can be difficult to find clothing options for myself as I am plus size and most places only have a limited selection. I found items that were stylish and fit! We paid $73 for designer jeans for my husband, multiple number of blouses for my daughter, and 4 kimonos and a pair of shorts for myself. We will definitely be back. read more

Customer service is amazing here. The ladies really worked with me with my two boxes of clothes to sell. Although, I am disappointed I only got $5 for 3 items of clothes (lol) their customer service made up for it. My child had an app and I don't live in the area so they really tried to look thru my clothes so I could be on time, which we were! Super kind! Will come back another time to shop. This is our favorite consignment shop in Jax! We cannot wait till the Beach location opens up. We can always find incredible pieces, from shoes to bathing suits. I have been lucky to find mostly new pieces with tags. I also love when they have sales! We do take advantage of selling as well. Not happy. They really lack in selection of mens clothes but won't buy any...? I used to shop here regularly but the last few times I've been in have not been able to find anything. I tried to sell to them this weekend and they didn't take anything. This store is a HUGE SCAM to sellers. Beware! I opted to drop off my clothes and come back when they text that they're done going through them. I received a text that I had 30 mins to respond to otherwise they would move forward with the sale and I was told in store this is the process and it's final. I didn't see the text for a few mins and felt rushed to accept the offer. (I've never had a store tell me that I had to answer so quickly without being able to see what they've taken) This appears to be a rather odd way to trick people into agreeing to selling items for a cheap price when they leave the store. They bought 40-something items for $90 and gave me an average of $2 & change per item. Let me also add over half of these items were BRAND NEW WITH TAGS. That being said - the store tells you that they will give you 1/3 of the price they will sell it for. When making that statement, they are lying to the sellers because while I didn't sell the biggest brands (pretty little thing, Missguided, Abercrombie & Fitch & other similar brands) they certainly are selling for more than $6 each in the store. Later that day, they reached out to me wanting to hear my thoughts after selling and I told them I was not happy with my experience. So the following day a girl who may have been the store manager (not sure) called me and I had the option to ask for an explanation where I was told that the most I was paid for an item was $5 and I was paid as little as $1 for other items? I asked for an explanation on this as NONE of their items are $3 (since they apparently pay you 1/3 of what they sell the items for). She basically had no answer other than my brands don't resell for a lot. I told her I understood but still didn't receive an answer as to why I wasn't being paid 1/3 of that not-so-high resale value. She told me next time she will look at my items if I sell to them again. Which I most certainly never will. So I left the phone call with zero answers as to why I was scammed & told basically to come sell again. Completely ridiculous. read more

I brought in twenty two items. They said they were buying two from me. They gave me back what they were not keeping. When I looked at them later, I found they only returned nineteen items. So they effectively stole one item from me. This makes me question how many items they keep to sell of what you let them keep to donate. They should let you watch and see what they are keeping and give you a donation receipt that specifies the number of items in the donation. To me, they are shady. read more

I found out about this place on IG and eventhough I rarely shop at secondhand stores, I wanted to check them out. I shopped at Plato's Closet once before and I never went back or bought anything. I believe this place has a similar concept. Perhaps the difference is Plato's is geared towards buying and selling secondhand clothing for teens vs. Uptown Cheapskate (UC) is seems to have a wider target market. I wasn't impressed with Plato's due the prices and the condition of the apparel. I was pleasantly surprised at how gently used the items were at UC. My hubby came in to get me because I was taking too long and noticed that as well. Today I traded in and bought clothes. I brought in over two dozen items and received a store credit of $27. I opted to donate what they did not buy and looks like they did not buy a lot of items which explains why I didn't get that much back. If I remember correctly, they give you 1/3 value of the items that are currently trending. A lot of my items have been sitting in my clothes for years so it makes sense why most of them ended up in the donation pile. If you choose not to donate, then they'll give you those items back. If this is your first time trading with them, there's a short form that needs to be filed out electronically. I looked around while they inspected my items and they called my name to tell me the trade in value before I was even done shopping. I found 4 items and ended up paying $14 after using in my in store credit. Two of the items I bought were really unique. Many items were priced $10 and under and while one of the tops I purchased was $9.99, it seems a bit high considering it's not brand new and I could have picked up something at that price point at Ross, I was able to justify the price since I had an option to sell my apparel. I have a decent amount of clothes but can never find anything to wear, so this is a good way to freshen up my warerobe without paying a lot of money. Do not recommend selling here if you are not going to wait while they buy. Wait was over an hour so i opted not to wait. I was notified that they purchased 3 items for $15 but when I picked up my remaining items about 7 items were taken out of my bag. They make you sign that all sales are final so I had no recourse to recover my "lost" items. I've sold through consignment and apps a lot over the years and have never had such a terrible experience. Don't plan to sell here unless you are going to wait and watch them go through your items. read more

Young staff was amazing.. very professional and moving fast as the store was very busy. I came back in today 11/19 to bring some things to sell. Again the staff was absolutely professional and very efficient. The process did not take very long and I shopped and purchased using my store credit to buy my daughter some things for Hanukkah this year. Along with the 10% off coupon for bringing items in I was very happy with the whole process and transaction. Kudos for a very well run operation! I'll be back to shop and bring things for sale. Love that the entire staff wear masks and they keep everything sanitised, well organized and fully stocked. Everytime i go in this store i spend close to $300. They have sales regularly and send you texts and emails to update you on whats going on so you can have the info at your fingertips. Today i purchased 6 shirts 8 pairs of pants and 7 pairs of shoes my total came to $242.79 I had a 20% off coupon from the last time i shopped and brought the whole store lol and thought id see what the total would be and how much I'd save using the discount. Came down to $169 and some change that was almost $80 in savings. Wheeew.
