Would I drive 1 hour to this place, yes I would and did. They have 2 menus - regular menu and then a vegan one so that a person with a dairy allergy can enjoy a full selection of breakfast items without missing out! Brought our kids this time and they were enamored. The owner himself was waiting at the front to seat people and he's happy to see you. You'll find so many different types of people dressed different ways and it just makes the atmosphere so welcoming. There's adorable owl decor of anything you can think of everywhere and it's all neat, clean and for sale! Overall the service was great. I had the which came first that was tasty the chicken and sausage was hot and fresh but the waffle that came as the bun was cold and not as fresh as the rest of sand which. The sweet potatoe fries that came with it were over cooked and some were had as a rock, so just ate the ones that were not as hard. My wife had the French toast that was pretty good and the potatoes had a good flavor however they did not taste fresh, the potatoes had that taste and feel as if they were microwaved or stale. read more

What a cute place! Decorated with vintage owl themed art - everything is for sale. Super cute coffee mugs are available too. I had the two egg breakfast and swapped out the meat for vegan bacon. I would recommend everything EXCEPT the vegan bacon. I don't know what it's made of, but it wasn't tasty . My friend and I shared a pancake. It made up for the lack of tasty bacon Only 1 server seemed to be working the day we were there and she did her best. There's an awesome bookstore in the same building. Be sure to visit! read more

Visited The Toasted Owl Cafe on a Saturday early afternoon. Nestled in The Newton Plaza, we were able to find parking with a bit of a wait. We have always known the space as a flower/gift shop, so it was nice to see that it transformed nicely. The vibes were very laid back and maybe it's a bit psychological (and the music helped), but it felt like we were in a mountain town....not Phoenix. Service was friendly and attentive. Boasting an extensive menu of breakfast and lunch items, there is something for everyone here! They also have a separate vegan menu with a lot of the classics made plant based. I opted for the veg breakfast tamales with the spicy green chili on the side. I like to order things that are more challenging to make at home, but I don't think I'd order this dish again. The tamales were good, don't get me wrong, but it seemed a little meh? The menu does say melted cheese, but it was too much/unrefined. The beans were plain and boring. The bed of greens were an odd addition as it ended up being soggy and gross anyways. My partner ordered off the vegan menu and had the nachos. Let me preface with that we've had a lot of really good vegan cheese sauces. This one was too thick and chunky, taking away, rather than adding value to the dish. The chips were great and she enjoyed the vegan chicken (I believe it was Abbott), but for $17+, it also felt a little underwhelming. Maybe we picked the wrong items that day! There are certainly some winning qualities to the establishment so I'd certainly give The Toasted Owl another chance, but this visit fell a bit short. read more

Super cute quaint place. Decorated in a variety of owls and also sells merch. ( I feel the merch is overpriced) Even the restroom is decorated. It's pretty pricey here. The food was good but not over the top for the prices they are charging. Staff were very friendly and the establishment was very clean. Glad I got to try it. Neither the bread nor the avocado spread tasted particularly fresh. Jalapeño poppers earned a 4/10: edible, but far from memorable. Service was adequate--friendly, but not outstanding. We waited about 30 minutes for a table, which is understandable given that it was Labor Day weekend. The interior decor was whimsical and charming, contributing to a very casual dining atmosphere. What a tasty spot. Little hidden gem inside a multi-tenant building on the north west corner of the street. I had a morning meeting (virtually) & wanted someplace I could sit while having a coffee. Found this place on Yelp as per usual‍, I am so glad I did! Cute decor with ....... You guessed it everywhere! Stopped in on a Saturday morning for breakfast. I was expecting it to be super busy but was happy when we were the only ones there, granted they had just opened for the day. The spot is a hippy vibe with owl decor. Super bright and cheery. Everyone from the hostess to our server was friendly and attentive. We ordered the biscuits & gravy, breakfast beef tamales and a pancake on the side. The biscuits and gravy looks were deceiving. Hubs thought for sure the gravy wasn't seasoned because it was just white gravy and no specs of pepper. It had great flavor but the biscuits could be fluffier. They were not hard but maybe a bit overcooked. My breakfast tamales had a thicker masa to meat ratio but were tasty. My over easy eggs were perfect and the black beans were good. Frosting is less cream cheese and more like a royal icing. My partner had pancakes, they were ok. I ordered the biscuits and gravy. The bacon was not great and the biscuits were pretty dry. I had ordered eggs but the server forgot, so I got them later. The manager kindly comped them, which was nice! Overall our server wasn't that friendly and made us feel rushed. Every time they dropped by, which wasn't often, they would said "I am sorry I have been busy but..." then act like if we asked for a refill it was an inconvenience. Kind of strange, maybe they were just having a bad day. They dropped off the check right as our food arrived and really never came back, which always makes us feel like we are a bother. Actually, this is perfect because instead of sitting outside and waiting for your table, you can pretend that you're smart and wander through a bookstore for 10 or 15 minutes! This place is very nice with a friendly staff. The coffee is good, but pricey. $5 coffee! Actually, the breakfast items are pricey too but, there are some creative and interesting menu items. I love owls, so I was excited to find this place. It did not disappoint. The decor is so cute with all different types of owls all over the restaurant. You can buy any owl or lamp you see in the restaurant. It was beautiful! Now on to the food. It was delicious, my husband got the biscuits and gravy with potatoes and sausage. a couple things to consider here: 1. i'm not a huge brunch person. 2. i don't like sweet things for breakfast (so i didn't try the french toast). apologies in advance because i think that skews my opinion just slightly but i did think overall, our experience at the toasted owl was pretty good! i love the decor: all the vintage furniture and trinkets really make this place feel cozy. i love the location too! it's really nice stepping right into changing hands right next door. the service, i thought was fine, i think we might have had a slight misunderstanding with one of the servers/hosts who was seating us, they asked us to sit wherever we'd like, then waited for us to decide, and then directed us to another table. no worries though, just a little awkward. i didn't love the omelette that i got, it was definitely an adventurous choice, as it had chicken breast in it, but i didn't really like the combo of it all. the fries were spectacular though! and the food didn't take long at all to show up. my partner liked his french toast, but was a little underwhelmed by the size of it, considering it is called the "big, fat french toast". i do still love the concept of all the vintage furniture, and that it's all available for purchase, and the vibes in there, but definitely feel like i could have ordered something else. read more
