This place screams eclectic in a good way, from all the different ceiling light fixtures, to the old stain glass window frames, chairs and tables and of course lots of owls. We were greeted right away and seated inside, there is an outside patio. Our server was friendly, introduced himself, asked if we had any questions, took our beverage order and allowed us time to look over the menu. I ordered their endless coffee, my wife ordered a bottled coke that came with a glass and ice. As it was just after 10 AM, We decided to order breakfast. My wife ordered biscuits and gravy with bacon. This is served with two biscuits smothered in gravy with bacon crumbles sprinkled on the gravy and fried county potatoes. There is no strips of bacon, just a lot of bacon crumbles. The county potatoes are small (just about large cherry tomato size) potatoes that are cut in half and fried. The outside is crispy, the inside is soft and well seasoned. Perfect with the gravy. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with sausage that comes either in links or patties. I chose the patties and the addition of two eggs over-easy. The biscuits were crispy on the outside, soft and crumbly on the inside. A very well baked biscuit. The white gravy was seasoned well and delicious. One of the better tasting gravy we have had in a while, although I prefer a sausage gravy. The two sausage patties were properly cooked and definitely added to the overall flavor of the gravy and eggs (cooked properly). To me the county potatoes were the best addition to the plate as I used them to soak up the gravy and egg yolk after the biscuits were gone. I would have liked to see a larger portion of gravy and potatoes on my plate, as my wife's plate had more of both. Likely had to do with the two eggs that occupied real estate on my plate. The endless coffee stayed true to its name, I never ran out of coffee and there was both packaged sugar, sugar substitutes, three types of coffee creamer (half and half, French vanilla and Hazel nut?) Overall the service was attentive, friendly and the food was good and arrived in a reasonable time frame. I would definitely return to the Toasted Owl again. read more

I really hate doing reviews like this. I gave the manager an opportunity for a quick phone call before I posted this review. She preferred text only. I was visiting family in Flagstaff for the first time in many years. My stepmother and I love eating out. We had great food and great experiences the week I was there. Towards the end of my trip, we were looking for a place to have a late breakfast early lunch, also known as a brunch. We narrowed it down to two different places. The Toasted Owl was the one that we picked. I wish I could say, that we were able to eat what I heard was great food there. The hostess was nice. The on duty manager even apologized for the wait. She told me they're cleaning our table. Once we got to the table, my stepmom and I noticed, this was the wettest table ever. The menus were sticking to the table. No big deal, just a dry towel, and problem solves. I asked this young man as he was going by if he could get a dry towel because the table was obviously very wet. He said okay, came back, dropped a stack of napkins on the table. My stepmom and I both rolled our eyes and looked at each other. When he was coming back, I asked him what are the napkins for? He said they are for you to wipe down the table, and then he left. I looked at my stepmom as we both rolled our eyes again, and I said we are not eating here. I explained to the on duty manager why we were not eating there. She did offer to be our waiter, but I said politely of course, no thank you. We were both kind and polite right out of the gate. I'm wondering what was it about this young bus boy, who apparently just got promoted to waiter/server, he would have such an attitude towards us? I have my thoughts. But I'm not going to share them here. It's indicative in my opinion with what's going on with the problems in this country. People judge you for the way you look, or what you wear. But I wonder what it was, that this young man thought about us that he had to treat us the way he did? Maybe this restaurant caters to a certain type or class of people. Maybe we don't fit in that class? But who cares? I come from the school where everybody gets treated the same, with kindness and respect, regardless of sexual orientation, race, religion, political affiliation, and the list goes on. Perhaps, this young man can tell the owner of this restaurant, why he treated us the way he did? By the way, I'm being gratuitous by assuming the food is five stars, as that's what I gave it. I'm just calling the balls and strikes as I see it, one-star service from this one individual. read more

Coming to leave a review because I ordered the Owl 66 or something like that (chicken fried chicken breakfast), which includes some sort of pie, apple pie or something and the pie never arrived. This place is too cute! Owl stuff everywhere, and most of it for sale. We were in town visiting and this was on my list of food places to try. We came in on a Friday morning around 9 am and didn't have to wait for a table at all. The service was very friendly and quick! I loved that the area we were in, the tables and chairs were all different, some metal, some cushy, all different prints. I loved that look, and we got very comfy chairs! I ordered a large orange juice, which was ok, and my husband got a Bloody Mary in the take-home owl glass. For food, I ordered the french toast, which was pretty basic. The food overall was ok, nothing to really write home about. But the service was great and the atmosphere was really cute. This restaurant is tucked in a strip mall but is so cute when you get inside. It's decor is all owl themed and has a very comfortable atmosphere. The server was sweet and very helpful with recommendations. My husband is vegan and this place has a vegan menu which is really nice and convenient for him when ordering. He ordered the vegan burrito and loved it. Raved about the salsa being delicious! I ordered the Grilled Cheese Incident and added bacon. It was good but there wasn't much cheese on the "grilled cheese!" The pesto mayo, bacon and artichoke hearts were yummy but I couldn't taste or find any cheese so that was a little disappointing. I live the other location but it usually has a wait and not so much parking! This location is twice as big and is part of a giant parking lot. Kind of a different setup! The place was fairly busy at 8am. The 2 darling servers moved around quickly and flawlessly, taking care of all guests and treating everyone special. I just loved servers Matt and MK. This place is cute and really going for a quaint vibe--mismatched chairs, tables, plates, lots of knickknacks. They have a patio that wraps around the building. We were seated quickly, which is great. Service was a touch slow for not being busy, but it wasn't a problem. The food was good, and the menu is huge! They have breakfast and lunch all day, and they have a full vegan menu which is impressive. I tried the bacon scramble, and I loved the potatoes. The sourdough toast looks homemade and was good, and you can sub out bacon/sausage for beans or something else vegetarian. It is a touch expensive, but pretty on par for Flagstaff at the moment. We ate here on June 2nd. Our server was a very helpful young man. Another female server (in a tie-dye shirt) brought our food. As she reached across me to set my wife's plate on the table, she tipped my hot coffee, spilling it onto my leg and staining my socks and shoes. We asked for some water to try to stop the stain from setting. She never brought it, even after being asked twice (nicely, I might add). Our male server finally brought it. At checkout, I was standing at the front counter (for a while), and another server said that someone would be with us shortly. The server who spilled coffee on me came up and stood behind the desk, so I smiled and handed her the ticket (assuming she was the one coming to cover that duty). She did not smile; she said nothing, instead put it on top of the receipt printer, and proceeded to print out tickets for other customers. It was then that I sensed the hostility and disrespect. Excellent food! I've been to the other location in Flagstaff when they first opened several years ago and thought it was awesome then. It's still awesome. The portions are large, flavored wonderfully, and the menu in itself is just entertaining to read. The Toasted Owl is a Flagstaff gem-- love the relaxed atmosphere and quirky decor. I prefer coming to this location over the one near downtown. It's never overwhelmingly chaotic here, even on weekends, which I particularly enjoy as a Flagstaff local. The food is always a hit- I have yet to be disappointed with a dish here. We were feeling positive about The Toasted Owl, since the reviews said that the vegan options were great. The ambiance is a 10/10. I loved the mismatched tables and chairs and the owl theme. It gave the restaurant a cozy feel. But what does all that matter when the other aspects are trash? We don't mind drinking tap water as long as it tastes good, which this water did not. We all ordered chai, which was too sweet for some of us and outside food and drinks weren't allowed. So you can guess how well that went. My mother ordered a vegan BLTA. We told the waiter that we were all vegan, yet he gave her a sandwich with real bacon. The waiter apologized and said they were out of vegan bacon, so my mom ordered Chorizo instead. But then a few minutes later when the waiter came back, he said that they actually DID have vegan bacon left over and mixed the bacon and chorizo. Did I mention that we were the only people in the restaurant at that time? I get that it was early in the morning, but come on. The only reason why this is two stars is because the pancakes and the BLTA were okay.The breakfast bowl was mid and the potatoes weren't cooked all the way. And as we were leaving, the group that had just sat down near us ordered orange juice and a different waiter had to take the glass away because it had LIPSTICK on it. Yikes. We will not be returning.
