For appetizers, we had the Spicy Feta Dip with warm, soft bread, and Fried Mushrooms topped with White Truffle Oil and served with Horseradish Sauce. Absolutely amazing!!!! For my entrée, I went with their signature dish... the Slash and Burn Catfish. WOW... crazy good! Great flavor and fried to perfection. You actually use a spoon to scrape the meat off the fish. This is a must-have dish! Others in our group that weren't feeling as adventurous enjoyed the Chicken Piccata, Grilled Shrimp, Sautéed Triggerfish, and steak, all were excellent. Pro tip: Save room for dessert!! We got the Strawberry Shortcake, which is a MUST HAVE, and the Amaretto Brownie, which was pretty great too! The service was amazing and very attentive throughout the meal. So, if you live in the Chattanooga area or are just visiting, what are you waiting for? This is a must-try place!

From there, we moved to our table and ordered two appetizers: the Burrata with tomatoes and the Rajas. Both were so fresh and flavorful -- the perfect way to start our meal. For our main courses, we enjoyed the filet with grilled shrimp (cooked to perfection!) and the fried shrimp, which were lightly battered and perfectly crisp. The grilled broccoli and fried okra were both fresh, hot, and full of flavor -- true standouts on their own. To top it all off, we finished with the amaretto brownie -- it had a crisp outer layer, a warm, rich chocolatey center, and was beautifully paired with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. Just divine! A special shoutout to Michael, our bartender, who sent us glasses of port as an aperitif to enjoy with dessert -- such a thoughtful and classy touch. The service, food, and atmosphere were all exceptional. Even though it's an hour drive from where we live, this will absolutely become one of our regular spots. Highly recommend -- everything was amazing!

Then, Victoria (primarily) did a fine job keeping up with our large group. It had gotten dark so didn't get full advantage of the nice view but the rustic feel inside was appropriate. I started with the tomato soup which had an interesting dollop of crab meat in the middle to jazz it up. Some got the bacon instead as first course & it was good (sans the jalapeño for me). My main course choice was the broiled snapper with mashed sweet potatoes & beans. Very tasty (though the sides might have been warmer). To close, a very nice pecan pie tartlet, I'll call it with ample whipped cream - right up my alley!

We ended up sharing a salad, which was delicious. It was had the perfect amount of dressing on it. We ended up splitting the bacon appetizer. The bacon was delicious the little biscuits that came with it were not my favorite. We ended up splitting the flounder which was absolutely positively stuffed with crab meat. It was so delicious. It was a smaller size portion, but we did split it and it was perfect enough because it was so buttery and delicious. We ended up getting a dessert because we were celebrating our 33rd wedding anniversary and we ended up splitting the fried apple pie, which I could've licked the plate. It was so delicious. It was a lovely evening. We sat out on the patio. Great food great service. It was really a special night. Everyone said happy anniversary is to us which made it extra special. Kind of wish they would've given me a glass of champagne or a free dessert for our anniversary but maybe next time. Cheers. $$$$

As you walk in the door, you are welcomed in to a cozy little space with 6-8 tables. The room is covered from floor to ceiling in wood paneling and makes for a very warm and homey feeling. From a cleanliness standpoint, you could eat off the floor. The menu was broad and contained all sorts of Southern favorites, ranging from BBQ pork, to smoked chicken, to seafood, to burgers, to hotdogs. All of the items were extremely reasonably priced with large sandwiches around $4.50, full dinner plates for around $8.50, and kids meals for around $3.50. As seafood seemed to be their specialty, I went with the fried catfish plate. It came with two sides, so I chose fried okra and slaw. I also received 4 hush puppies as part of my meal as well. The meal came with 5 large strips of fresh catfish, masterfully breaded in a light cornmeal batter and perfectly fried. Catfish can often have an overpowering flavor, but this catfish was incredibly mild. The fried okra, hush puppies, and slaw were delectable and well portioned. Couple that with a legit sweet tea and I was all in $8.95. My wife had a smoked chicken sandwich that was truly unique. Normally smoked chicken is of the shredded variety; this was whole slices of chicken breast. The chicken had a great taste and was served with a unique hot sauce that perfectly complimented the chicken and slaw that was served on top of the sandwich. Total - $4.50. In summary, J's Hole in the Wall was a great choice. They served delicious food at a great value with a smile. You could tell this was a locals' place as almost everyone there seemed to be a regular. If you are on I-24 passing between Nashville and Chattanooga, this place is worth a short detour!
