Had a terrible experience here. After being told not to take the transmission apart, only to give an explanation of the codes, they took it apart anyway. Then tried to charge me $350 to put it back together. I drove my car there, just fine...it had to be towed away, with the transmission in a box... Of course, we would refute what I said. Why would my mother and stepfather have to come on my behalf, if not for you trying to take advantage of me. It doesn't matter, my car is repaired and it didn't take the $3,000 you tried to charge to do it. Very BAD service by the so called "mechanic" John. Went to drop of my car, which had a dead battery that starts after being jumped (bought a year ago). The "mechanic" did not unload the car from the trailer I had it in I had to do it myself then he went into his office after I had told him the battery needed to be charged in order to love the car and never came back out. When the car was ready he called me three times in one day telling me the car was ready and I needed to pick it up, I told him I would be there before 6 the same day the car was ready, well he still kept calling me to pick it up even when I was around the corner from his shop. I show up and on the wall of his establishment it says there is a 5 day chance to pick up the car after it was ready. That pissed me off. BAD customer Service!!!!! A couple of weeks ago my 2005 Cadillac was hesitating and jerking. Usually when I have problems with my car I take in back to the dealer and pay for the diagnostic because I felt like there would be certified and more experienced technicians working at the dealer. After running their diagnostic Sewell Cadillac informed me that the problem was indeed with my transmission, and that the cost to replace the transmission would be $8500 because they don't rebuild. Obviously this would be a bad investment. So I, then, had my car towed to The Transmission Shop. I spoke to John over there. He said he'd check out my car and get back with me. Of course, I was nervous, but I had heard good things about The Transmission Shop from the reviews, and decided to relax. Told myself it would be okay. They know what they're doing. I later got a callback from John. He explained to me that based on the codes he was getting I didn't even need a transmission, I needed a tune up. I seriously couldn't believe what I was hearing. I asked if he was sure because Sewell Cadillac said my transmission needed to be replaced to the tune of $8500. John said hey if you get the tuneup and still have problems, come and see me. So I had my car picked up and took it to get a tune up and sure enough. My car is running fine. What's crazy is the level of integrity that was demonstrated with The Transmission Shop. I'm ecstatic. After taking my car to a dealership, they found a code indicating a problem between 3rd and 4th gear. They did not repair transmissions, just replaced them. The cost was going to be more than the car was worth and more than what I owed. I read a lot of reviews and then talked to both Doug and Justin at the Transmission Shop. They were both very knowledgeable, courteous, and explained exactly what they could do for me and what some estimates would be depending on what they found. I took the car in and within a week, I had my car back. I've had it about 2-3 weeks and so far it runs great. They did an excellent job. Even said they could stay later or possibly come in off hours to let me pick up my car. I would highly recommend them. My son is even looking at bringing his car down to them. I had to revisit The Transmission Shop chain to correct an issue with an older Toyota Sequoia; this time I went to the Plano, TX, shop due to the workload in Garland. The shop manager, Julio, shuffled other vehicles in order to get the SUV problem investigated and repaired in a very reasonable amount of time. It turned out the problem was not directly associated with the first visit, but was covered under the 3 year warranty. I was very happy with this shop, especially Julio. His background and knowledge of transmission systems is impressive. On a side note, he was able to lead me in a better direction for a separate Chevy Z71 Transfer Case problem, which is helping a lot. Was quoted on 9/3/19 $1200 which magically became $1400 which then magically became $1500 which then became $1602 for the same job including tow. I called 4 days later to inquire and they literally lost my car. When I asked them to tow it as they refused to do any other work that wasn't transmission to get the car running, the bill magically became $1712.65 and was finished 9/13 at the shop in person. Taking it to a real mechanic and have them fix the other issues & inspect the transmission. Also the 12 month warranty 12,000 mile bs doesn't go in effect until they "drive the car". Seriously do not do business with these people. Lies & lies & the bill doesn't reflect the costs, math doesn't add up and they charged $95 an hour for labor on a firebird. I have contacted the better business bureau they can explain the math to them. Shady shady. I'm hoping this review will be read by all so they don't experience the price gouging and padding on the bill and 10 days to do a job that takes 30 minutes that they charged 6 hours for. read more

I've been a local in the Uptown area for 4 years and I don't even consider going to another automotive repair shop.

I chose The Transmission Shop to fix my 92 Q45 because I found them on Yelp. The transmission would not shift into overdrive and third was going quick. Losing all my gas in second gear I had to do something. The gentlemen at The Transmission Shop were very courteous and friendly. I could tell I had made a good choice when I saw all the automobiles they had to take care of. A huge variety of makes and models mostly German and Japanese. The shop would call me with updates periodically on the car. Unfortunately I was not able to afford the cost of an overhaul on the transmission. I ordered a transmission online and had it shipped to the shop. They were happy to install it for me and dispose of the old one. I was very pleased with the overall cost of the install, a very fair price. All in all the experience I had with The Transmission Shop and the staff was most enjoyable. read more

I took my 2002 Mercedes 320 here because the auto trans would not shift past first gear. The owner looked at the spec sheet and asked if the battery had been low because it showed a low voltage error code. I told him I had to jump the car the other day because it has not been driven in a couple months. He had his tech clear all the error codes and the car started driving perfectly. He could have easily told me I needed a new transmission and I would not have known otherwise. He didn't even charge me for A diagnosis on the car. I just left a review on google, but the service was so good I had to come leave one on yelp. I was very impressed. I've never been to a transmission shop, but I'm wary of all mechanics because I know nothing about cars and have been cheated before. I bought a 2001 Ford F-150 from a friend for $500 because the transmission went out and he said he didn't have enough money to buy another one. I had the truck towed here, and jimmy said he would call me. The next day, he said they ran a diagnostic (which was free) and said it didn't need a whole new transmission, and that he could fix it for 360! Wow! He could have easily lied to make more money but they were honest and I got my truck the next day. Thank you thank you guys! It's refreshing to know there are honest people in the world!
