After checking out what places had what on there menus we went with The Trident, wanted to sit outside next to the water, yes it was a bit chilly but soo worth it! We 1st started out the Dungeness crab cakes, they came with an apple fennel slaw and grapefruit and some citrus aioli. These were delish! Sweet and succulent, a perfect starter! I had been craving a lobster roll for a very long time, it's not something found easily in Phoenix so when I saw they had a Classic New England Lobster roll on the menu I knew that was just what I wanted! We traveled and found this nice spot infront of the beach, the reviews weren't bad. In my opinion the food was mediocre, i had the white ceviche in a 6oz cup. Everything could've used more spices and the bloody Mary's were tart and undrinkable (yes even after asking for more lime). We were a party of 5 there for over an hour and 30-35 mins waiting for our food, the rest eating and waiting to be attended, we only got attended 3 times and refilled once. If you're going for the view, know that you're going for the view, there's better food in smaller spots. YOURE PAYING FOR THE VIEW not the small portions. The food was fine. The price was OK for the view on the deck. However, the waiter named Carlos totally ruined my day. First, I asked if my family could get an umbrella or some shade. I need to hear the waiter complaining for 5 minutes for doing this. In fact, the shade on top of the deck was remotely controlled separately, so it was easy for him and won't impact other customers. Second, the waiter had his "small talks" with all other tables he served and had NO words with us AT ALL. My wife and I work hard for our money. We have grown to accept that CA has an uneducated working class and other. When we come stay in Sausalito, we expect at minimum a mediocre level of service for the premium we pay to stay here. Not so at the trident. Does it remind you of chewing gum? It should. This restaurant is shit. Not do to the food, but do to the staff. Specifically, the old loser near dead manager. The manager can easily be found, he is the rudest, Mal-mannered old timer in the zip code. He belongs on a pirate ship. When we asked the talk to the manager to comment on a few things that bothered my wife and two kids, the manager came with the same salty attitude as we he were greeted. The third word out of the managers mouth was followed by"I don't want to hear it, pay the bill and leave" all while holding a knife and pointing his finger at us. Silicon Valley, and locals. Be smart and avoid this place. Unless you want to wait 35 minutes for water when you have kids with 1/20 the restaurant full, go for it. By the way, we called the police on him for posing a threat on us. Long story short, we payed $317 with no tip to be harassed by a local restaurant manager. Ambience: Highly recommend for a date night out. Due to covid guidelines and social distancing, I highly recommend making a reservation and requesting outdoor dining. We made a reservation and we're seated right on the water. It's a beautiful view from 5:30 when we sat down until we left. Food: we ordered the clam chowder combo served with a side salad. I recommend ordering the bread bowl if you plan to make this a meal. We also ordered the roasted chicken. It takes 25 minutes but it is worth it. It's served over a bed of perfectly cooked spinach and a side of garlic mashed potatoes. The gravy is made with red pepper so it has a little spice but it was delicious. My partner was disappointed there wasn't an option for lobster. There's only the lobster roll sandwich or a $60 Course that included some lobster. Drinks: we ordered a bottle of the trident rose. Traveled many places. Never seen anybody charging for UNGUARDED, UNROOFED BICYCLE PARKING. Despite sign saying to pay upfront nobody shows up to collect money until you are trying to get out. Our friends also made reservations for four people at 4 PM. so two separate reservations, which is important in this situation. We were sat at a round table for 6 near the servers station. It was jammed up and 2 people would have their backs to what this place is famous for, the view of the city and bay. Plus we didn't really ask for one big table since we had 2 parties coming, so r just wanted to be close We noticed that all the tables right on the glass overlooking the beautiful view were wide open. In fact, when we got there, we were practically the only ones there so I asked, could we move to one of those tables where I was told "I'm sorry we have reservations" we were a touch frustrated because we have reservations too but that was the explanation so we sat at this round table for a good 15 minutes noticing no reservations were sitting in those tables so we asked again and they said "I'm sorry we have reservations". Again not understanding why our reservation didn't qualify for a nicer table especially since NO ONE is sitting there. Increasingly annoyed. I told the server I see a 4 top and 2 top right there next to the window. We are moving there since NO ONE is here. We were fine sitting separately since we have 2 separate reservations. They now insisted on pushing the 4 top and 2 top together. So we obliged Once the bill came I wanted to make things easy so I treated everyone on my card. we were charged a $26 service fee and a 20% gratuity which was $110. So a 25% gratuity $26 to move to a better table?? We were there for 2 1/2 hours and One other table came in near us. It was NOT crowded nor full The fees were NOT explained nor approved. We were 2 separate reservations and didn't ask for one table. Just wanted to see the view I am not a fan of service fees and required gratuities. I always tip between 20-25% so they would have made that money anyways. This situation just felt wrong, targeted and vengeful. Can I tell you - I worked in restaurants for YEARS and have been eating at them for even longer (duh) - I have NEVER been treated so rudely for asking a damn question. I am all for folks working in service to stand up to people who treat them badly, but to be rude just for the hell of it? No. Not today. The man that I spoke with told me "No, we can not move you to a later time, other people have reservations and then what? We have to hold up everyone and push everyone back for you? We're not doing that." First if all, THAT'S NOT HOW ANY OF THIS WORKS! Unless you're literally only taking reservations for one table in the entire restaurant. Secondly - if the answer is no, that's fine, just say "I'm sorry, I don't think we can accommodate a later time." To top it off, I remained friendly and explained it was my mother's birthday and we were running behind so I was just calling to check. He says "ok, so I'll make a note that you'll be late. Bye." CLICK. I kid you not, this man hung up on me! I was talking and saying "ok thank you we'll do our best" - I had been friendly the whole time and now I'm annoyed at myself about it. Well, I called 2 other places in town, both were friendly (Barrelhouse Tavern and Poggio's, if you're wondering) and made efforts to let me know they would fit us in. So we went elsewhere. Of course the views are gorgeous, and the heat lamps are strong when sitting outside. With touristy restaurants such as this one, you can't go wrong with the mussels. I'd stick to the mussels, as my son's overpriced burger did not look appetizing at all (In-N-Out burger is way better lol). Our server was blah! We had ahi tuna appetizer which had a good amount of tuna which didn't have much flavor, boring coleslaw, and chops. We had a lobster roll which was bread with a lot of lobster meat with heavy lemon flavor. It was boring. We also had salmon, and kids fish and chips that was a highlight of our meal. For $15 kid's fish &chips comes with salad, and a good amount of fresh fruits (melons, pineapple, grapes). Our group of 4 went to Trident during Covid 19 restrictions for outdoor dining recently. It was a Friday night and we took a chance to walk in with no reservations. The hostess was very accommodating and seated us on the patio out of the wind. Our waiter Will had numerous tables that night but gave us great service despite the fact that there were only two servers working the patio. Food and drinks were excellent and service was good considering that they had limited servers, etc. under the restrictions for outdoor dining and take out. Great Food and nice view! read more
