Best dishes pork chop is usually over cooked and salty with off Demi glacé on top, and chicken and waffles is shadow of what it could be, with just a dry breast coated and fried. Use the whole chicken people! Venue is nice, shuffle board, pool table. Good bar. Staff seems overwhelmed most of the time. Chef and Menu need quick overhaul. read more

Gave the Union Underground one last shot, and they failed again. A rude, unfriendly waitress; extremely slow service; a medium burger cooked rare; and a tepid, dry cinnamon bun for dessert. The waitress started off crabby when we asked her for the specials, she stormed off saying that she'd thought the hostess had given them to us. It went downhill from there. She'd run by the table and tell, "How does everything taste?" No pause for an answer. I asked for more information on how the scallops were prepared, and she read the description from the menu. Spend you hard-earned dollars somewhere else in town. This place does not deserve your patronage. read more

We were so excited to check this place out even after reading the mixed reviews about it. Upon entering the establishment we were "greeted" by a very rude hostess/server (not sure her role) who told us that the seating downstairs was full and we were not allowed to eat outside because of an "approaching thunderstorm." There were clearly already people seated outside under a large gazebo roof. Upon questioning about this seating she rudely dismissed us. It's been two hours now and no such thunderstorm has occurred. Such a bummer because we were so excited to check this place out. Instead we went to Thai Basil right down the road, who seated us outside and we received excellent service as well as some of the best Thai food of our lives!! I've given this place three shots. Twice was for work and the last with my family. It's Saturday night at 5:45 and my family decides on The Union Underground for dinner. We arrive excited to sit in a pub like atmosphere and have a great meal. The whole place was a ghost town but the maitre'd told us the place was full up and booked for the night. She was chilly and turned us away. My first few times at dinner prior were filled with slow meal delivery and poor food at that. Each meal I ordered was not only slow on arrival but needed sending back (burnt meals). Part of the fun of eating out is to have fun. If a place has cranky staff right at the door it's probably a blessing to be turned away. Tried out another place for dinner which was packed but a table still was made ready. I've been here 4 times. I've tried my best but I just don't like it. I love their kale chips but the other food I've had here hasn't been great. The worst offender was the poutine. It had some weird shredded cheese, no curds in sight, and I honestly don't know what the brown substance was on it but it wasn't gravy. It was a weird separated paste. Do not order! The space just feels kind of cold and breezy despite being underground. One positive, they do have a good selection of alcohol. read more

Great fun, cozy addition to manchester. Prices are a little high (for the style and ambiance for what is essentially a really nice gastropub...with tip we paid $170 for a family of 4) but the food was VERY good. Service was friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and everyone seemed to work together well to make sure food and drinks got out when they were ready (nothing worse than staring at you first cold beer sitting at the bar for 10 minutes! Luckily that didn't happen there). Drinks were interesting and tasty and the beer list is especially solid. Don't expect to just grab a 'quick bite' though....Took ~90 minutes from walking in to walking out which was probably 20 minutes too long (but I think they are probably just working out some kinks during their first holiday season). Was excited to try a new spot in town come to find out this was not the place. It has a great atmosphere and look but that doesn't make up for the horrible service. We walk in sit down and get ignored from the manager and all the staff. Manger standing in the corner with a tooth pick just oblivious that 4 people walked in and sat down after making countless eye contact with guest. Then going on 5 min with no staff checking in. Then decided to go to the bar and order drinks and found the worst attitude I've ever seen from a bar tender. They didn't even have 8 people at the bar and seemed annoyed just to help guest. I would give our dinner 0 stars if that was possible. I had their chicken tacos. They were very bland. I could hardly find the pieces of chicken and the only sauce on them was a little sour cream squirted on top. Rice and black beans served on the side were also flavorless and the beans were not fully cooked. Absolutely the worst meal I have even been served. We each ordered a different craft draft beer that we were very familiar with and the beer was skunky. I'm not sure if their lines were dirty or if they were serving us substitutes. I couldn't even finish mine. My dining partner got the short ribs and they were nothing special. All in all, extremely disappointing and will not go back. Would give this restaurant a zero if I could. Hostess, Olivia, was rude and to top it off the nanager was worst. Come here if you want attitude and or quality and tasting food. The crab cakes were frozen and filled with all types of process fillers, the vegetables were salty and overcooked. The best-tasting item on the table was the water -- it was ice cold. This is not a friendly place and don't take your friends from out of town there because all they get is eye rolls and rudeness. I can't even believe that I'm writing two 1-star reviews in a row for two restaurants that are literally right next to each other. After being completely ignored at the Mystic Cafe right next door, we thought we'd give this place a try. We arrived around 2:00 PM and put our group on the waiting list and were told it may be a bit of a wait, which we were fine with. After about 25 minutes of waiting, we were told it would be another 30-40 minutes before we were seated. Again we said that was fine. Not even five minutes later one of the hostesses/servers made an offhand comment about how the kitchen would be closing at 3:00. Someone in our party asked for clarification since we had arrived at 2:00 and would theoretically be seated around that time. We were told that even though we had been waiting for a table already for almost a half hour, we wouldn't be able to order any food when we were seated. I can't for the life of me understand why they wouldn't have just turned us away upon arrival instead of letting us stand there waiting for nothing. Such terrible customer service and I wouldn't ever consider stepping foot in there again. We ended up eating at Christo's Pizza and Pasta who were happy to serve us some delicious pizza! read more

I was surprise and embarrassed when I told my friends from out of town to have lunch at Union Ground. They have them and us a hard time about sitting a party of eight 1/2. My daughter left a message to reserve a spot on their answering machine, which did say they do reservations. Our group got their before us and the lady at the front was very rude. Once we arrived she continued being extremely rude through out our lunch. I had to apologized to our guest that not all restaurants in Manchester are like this. At least our waitress was very nice. Before we left we ask if that lady was the manager and we found out the Erica is the owner. Wow really, that's how you behave towards your customers. I told our guest that Manchester has many more restaurants that they can enjoy better. read more

We arrived without a reservation on a Wednesday. The hostess ignored us until we flagged her down. When asked how long it was going to be, initially she said it was going to be 1/2 hour. After we asked if we could wait at the the bar, she said no, even though there was open chairs and nobody was wearing a mask. Then we asked if we could put our name in and she then said it would be 45 minutes to an hour. We were on an epic drive through NewEngland and this was the first rudeness we experienced. These guys do a really nice job. Food items look really great, and taste nice as well! The cocktails are fun, and they have a lot of options if you drink beer (which I don't). It took a while for our food to get to the table, but the server was great, and we hadn't made a reservation (and they were packed!) so that is more our fault than theirs. Easily the worst service anyone in our party has ever experienced at a restaurant. Our party of 5 was seated at a 4 top but were told that we couldn't pull a chair up to accommodate the 5th person. We were moved to two tables in the corner, a 2 top and a 4 top about two feet away from each other. Were told that we weren't "allowed" to move them together or pull up a chair and that it was a "rule" and that we should be happy to eat there. We ended up having to lean over to talk to everyone. Food was decent at best, not horrible but came out cold and one person in our party get their food about 10 minutes later once we asked our waitress about it. When the bills came, we had been charged for things we didn't get and when we asked the waitress to reprint our bill she said that it was a waste of time and paper, one member of our party nervously laughed at this and she turned to her and said "just hilarious isn't it". We had to put up a fight to get the bill correct. Waitress rolled eyes and made faces at us the whole time and spent most of her time standing about 20 feet away whispering with the hostess and pointing at us instead of checking on us or her other tables. Go literally anywhere else in Manchester for better food and service. Tried to talk to hostess about our experience as we were leaving and she looked at us, said "customers do not come first, even at the Ritz" stormed away. Could probably get better customer service at the gas station up the road. read more

This place is awesome. The decor inside is clean and simple and fresh. Before we walked in we got absolutely soaked with a freak rain storm that came through, and were sat in front of the AC, which the waitress turned off for us without asking. She did hear me say something and knew we were soaked. For apps we had the fried cheese curds (go North Meadow!) and pretzel sticks. The pub cheese that came with the pretzels was soooo good! For dinner my kiddos had the dumpling appetizer special which was actually just mediocre. Fried too much which was made hard to eat. My hubby and I had a bowl of French onion soup and split a reuban. Both were really good!! I was disappointed there wasn't anything chocolately for dessert (a cookie, meh) so we all split a blueberry cheesecake which was great. So glad we found this spot. We'll def be back for the pretzel sticks alone!! read more

Toxic patrons, food was pedestrain at best. Cool looking restaurant, but ended right there. While dining Saturday evening a regular patron who he said was a line-cook at the Mystic Cafe above this restaurant sat next to me and started to verbally insult me thinking I was politically conservative and was not welcome at the Union Underground. I was sitting watching the ballgame having my dinner and not talking with anyone. He was passing judgement without even speaking with me. The younger bartender over hearing this just looked the other way. My recommendation is not to dine at either establishment. I believe giving a two star review was generous on my part. read more

The mgr who was subpar at Seesaw's is back with the same low skill sets and thorny attitude. While waiting for our table at the bar, despite there being several empty ones, we were forgotten and never seated until I asked why half an hour after our rezzie we still weren't seated... "oh your table is ready"... gee - no kidding - about 15 tables were ready by then. After ordering we were informed the kitchen was closing soon so if we wanted anything we'd have to order now. We had just sat down. The bartenders were friendly and efficient despite being very busy. The food was grim and greasy. Like a 20 year old frat boy designed the menu for drunk friends with the munchies but with a 60 year olds expense account. I'm sure they are as relieved as we are that we won't be returning. That the food is tasty isn't in dispute. What is in dispute is the value for the money charged (bruschetta for $13 with 5 small toast points and a few oz of tomato, overly complex, yet weak mixed drinks at $13+); speed of service (I count 4 empty tables and it's an hour since we were seated and we are still waiting on entrees - two of which are from the kids' menu); and attentiveness of staff (server has way too many tables in her station and hasn't been by in 20 minutes). Do you want the good news or the bad news? Bad news: ---Beers are consistently not filled to the top. Usually a full inch of air between the top of the beer and the top of the glass itself. Saw about a dozen beers including two of my own served like this. ---Service was not the greatest. At 70% capacity and seemingly well staffed, they seemed like the customers were annoying and low on their priority list. Most staff smelled like they had just taken a smoke break when they did show up --- I bought a $16 dollar burger which came with less fries than a McDonalds small size, and so many veggies it seemed like compensation for the burger size. My wife was happy with the mussels. ---We heard they would have music at 9pm, according to a facebook event, so we stuck around and had drinks, but the band didnt go on for quite a while after that, so we only caught a song or two. Good news: ---Visually stunning and very clean facility ---Food, although oddly served, was good. read more

Hubby and I went for dinner last night. Ordered poutine to start. It was OK. Lots of gravy but the cheese was sparse. I got a burger and hubby got the French dip. The burger was ur typical burger. I just waited 1 hour and 5 mins for dinner for 3 with a 6 year old and walked out after our food never came. After 30 minutes of waiting I was told the "kitchen is a little backed up." After another 10 minutes we asked the server how much longer and she said "it would be 10 to 20 minutes." This is after waiting for 40 minutes I then inquired again and the server said she didn't even see the food being prepared. I was then told she would be back with the check....The check! After waiting 1 hour and 5 minutes without receiving entrees and was told to wait for the check. Terrible service and the gaul to ask for a check after waiting for dinner from 6-7:05 for 3 entrees with a 6 year old is borderline unconscionable. This is my second time here so decided to give a review. We ordered the confit chicken wing app and had the sauce in the side. Excellent. Large meaty and crispy. My only concern is that it was 11.00 for three so one of us had only one :( My husband is a burger guy and it was cooked as requested. He did not like the bun which was a brioche roll. He like it otherwise. I had the veggie puff pastry over ancient grains and tomato sauce, loved it! Had the chocolate peanut butter desert which was good. I have lived and worked in the area for 30 years in many restaurants. Decor and ambiance is wonderful albeit loud when full. Seems like they want to be upscale but not. I would get rid of the dessert tray as it looked very unappealing to me as the desserts were old looking. That is for the more upscale restaurants anyway. Prices are a bit high for locals who will need to carry them through the slow periods. It's new and working through the kinks but I hope that they can make it work for visitors AND locals so we can come back again. read more
