The food was not great and expensive. The pasta dish was bland, and the steak ordered medium rare was burnt outside and raw inside. I don't mind paying a high price, but the value has to be there. I guess I was paying for the ambiance. If you want to dine or have a cocktail in a beautiful setting you should go. If you actually wanted to eat a good meal perhaps you should go elsewhere.

I know there's a new chef, and unfortunately the difference was noticeable. My favorite salmon dish came out undercooked and mushy, so I couldn't eat it. My friend's medium-rare steak was overcooked. I also ordered a glass of wine that was forgotten. After reminding our server, she told me they were out of it, so I ordered something else, but it didn't arrive until I was almost done eating. We were also surprised that the bread, which used to be complimentary, is now an extra charge. I'm hoping this was just an off night, but after this experience I can't recommend the restaurant the way I used to. It's disappointing to see a place I always looked forward to and confidently recommended fall so far below the standard it once had.

Through all of it, Lindsay was absolutely incredible. I honestly don't know how she did it. Even as the restaurant filled up, she somehow made it feel like I was her only table. My drink never got low, everything arrived quickly, and she checked in at exactly the right moments without ever making it feel rushed. She was friendly, sharp, and completely on top of everything happening around her. I've eaten at a lot of restaurants, and service like that is rare. Lindsay handled a packed room with the kind of calm, attention, and professionalism you usually only hope for. She turned an ordinary meal into one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time. District Bar and Grill is lucky to have her. Lindsay set the bar so high that most restaurants don't even come close

Came here last night after reviewing their menu online and thinking it looked pretty decent but we…read moreencountered nothing but problems. First and foremost, the menu of 20+ items online was not what we received when we came through the door. It was instead replaced with a much smaller (and more expensive) menu with only 5 entree choices. Seemed like a real bait and switch. Worse even than that, the dining room was extremely hot temperature wise, I'd guess north of 80 degrees easily. The restaurant is supposed to be air conditioned so we mentioned it to the server and asked if the air could be turned on. Her response was to say that she "agrees its very hot but the owner didn't think it was hot enough for the AC to be turned on" and if we thought it was bad in the dining room we should check out the kitchen, where she claimed it was 110 degrees. Ridiculous. We finished our drinks and left. None of us were comfortable and it didn't feel worth it to pay 30 dollars for a rib-eye while we were literally dripping sweat. We spoke with some other patrons on the way out, they mentioned their rooms were equally hot. When they called down to ask about AC, the hotel staff brought up a fan to push the 90 degree air around their room. I would avoid this place at all costs, at least in the summer months.

The food and cocktails were delicious! We had a Nigroni and Blackberry Basil drink. The Nigroni was blended well, smoky and a good quality. The Blackberry Basil drink was also delicious, which says something as I'm a picky cocktail drinker! I ordered the bucatini which was flavorful with specialty mushrooms and whipped feta. The description slightly varied from what I received as I didn't see any of the nuts described but it was so good I'll overlook it. My husband had a buttery bass which he enjoyed. Our chocolate cake was rich and the perfect size for a sweet ending. Waiter was attentive and friendly. Overall highly recommend and thought the value was on par for our area. Also bonus points for cardboard takeout containers. I hate plastic and styrofoam.

The coating on the eggplant came off. There was very little actual eggplant and cheese. It came with no option but fries and the fries were burnt so bad I had to move them across the table from me because of the stench. To his credit, the waiter offered to replace the fries or get me a side salad. The greens in the salad were fresh and beautiful but they were unpleasantly drenched with dressing and I had to stop eating after a few bites. The server never should have put those burnt fries in front of me and should warn people the Italian eggplant hero sucks ass. The best part is the cozy atmosphere and he refilled my dirt Coke twice without being asked.

We did get there slightly before 5pm which allowed us a quieter atmosphere for the first part of our meal. We ordered the mushroom and fennel sausage flat bread for an appetizer. For our main meal, my husband ordered the salmon. He said that everything was cooked perfectly and it was quite flavorful. I had the public burger and truffle fries. The burger was juicy and huge! The fries were nicely seasoned. The service was great, as well. Our waitress was attentive and the manager came by and spoke with us, as well. This spot is popular and was relatively full even for an early dinner at around 5. My fiancé and I had the Brie burgers. Loved the concept but note that it seems more of a Brie spread than actual slices of Brie. Still tasty though. I didn't love that the bun was a tad cold. The Parmesan truffle fries are on point! So amazing! Portions for the burger and side of fries are generous. The spanakopita app was tasty but a bit salty. Service was okay. I'd totally return here if in the area again but, IMO, it didn't quite live up to the hype of earlier reviews. The food's definitely solid but not at the level I'd make a special trip here. There are two gender neutral restrooms, which were well appointed but the floor was a bit slippery due to folks tracking in snow in the winter. They may want to consider extending some mats to the restrooms. I was worried about my Mom, who is a senior with some mobility issues, slipping on the floors near the bathrooms.

Food was fine, some good bites (shrimp tempura, desserts) and some not so impressive bites (lobster tacos). Vibes were great, we like chill places that still have energy and a lively atmosphere, not too loud, the space filled up throughout our time there so it felt like a happening place. I stayed one night at the Renaissance because I was overnighting in Albany and it looked close to…read moreCity Beer Hall which looked good on Yelp. Well that's a confusing sentence. I walked the half block from my hotel room and saw the lighted sign on the building drawing be to City Beer Hall. The bar is old school wood, long tables, and people generally having a good time. I was alone so chose the bar for sitting because that is more convenient for me and the wait staff. The beer menu was long with a few regionals new to me. Too many sours though for my taste, but those are popular now. I am not going to talk about the beers available because those will surely change by the time you read this. I ordered a beer and checked out the food menu. There were some good looking items on the menu, I really wanted a good pizza after my earlier airport pizza debacle, but a whole pizza was too much for one guy. I discussed the food choices with my friendly bartender and settled on the chicken nuggets and a side of fries. The nuggets are hard breaded from thighs and pretty good. The fries were crispy, well seasoned, and overly abundant. Overall the meal was great! It was Thursday night and they had a trivia-like game that was related to Family Feud so I played that. Might have stayed a little later than I should have but the beer was good. I was looking at the beer refrigerator and saw Fiddlehead IPA and asked my bartender about it. He was not really keen on it but that is the best beer they had there, but that is one really good beer. Later I notice that was the beer they were giving you if you ordered the $8 beer and a shot, which is an excellent value! There was some kind of drama this night. There was a lady who first tried to order Jager Bombs for her table and the bartender told her sorry we don't do those so she ordered Tito's shots instead. Well this ended about how you would expect with her losing a credit card and blaming everyone in sight for her problems. The bartender and manager were S-tier professionals managing her and keeping the food and beer flowing to the rest of us. Guys, thank you for your service! If you are in downtown Albany and you are hungry or thirsty hit up the City Beer Hall.

The City Beer Hall fits the bill. Located on Howard Street, the City Beer Hall has the local hangout vibe for professionals in town like me and locals wanting a beer and a pizza and fun times. The building at one point housed the city's old telephone company, and now is a cool pizza bar joint with a speakeasy that wasn't open when I went. The large room that houses the bar and long communal tables with high ceilings and large windows is like a Biergarten that is works great for happy hours and evening hangouts. Pizza wise, I was pleased with their Hot Honey Pizza that balances sweet, savory, and spicy flavors between its delicious crust, pepperoni, creamy ricotta, tomato sauce, mozzarella, fresh basil, and a lovely drizzle of hot honey. I enjoyed the pizza with a Ommegang Blueberry Falls that was a "Blueberry Kolsch" whose crisp and slightly sweet flavors balanced well against the spicy and savory I was noshing. The only downside was I found the service behind the bar to be a bit slow and distracting from conversations with other customers. I felt I was forgotten until I finally flagged for the check. But overall, the City Beer Hall was a solid experience highlighted by their hot honey pizza.

That's about all the good I can say about this place. At this price point you would expect professional wait staff... Our dishes came out a couple at a time. Ive had much better food from diners and other places that don't cost nearly as much. Their prices position themselves as upscale but it is far from it. Short order cooks could do better. Chicken Marsala was two small nuggets of chicken over a large amount of pasta. My aunt said it tasted like they poured the Marsala over it instead of cooking with it. I got the pumpkin and apple risotto. This was one huge bowl of Risotto. Like getting a bowl of porridge. It was supposed to have diced pumpkin, Carmelized apples, spinach, julienne vegetables and pecans (I think). None of that was present. I was told it was blended in.... Really? It was like having a big bowl of risotto for your dinner and did not at all resemble what was described on the menu. I sent it back and got a side salad with ranch dressing. How could you ruin that? Well it was heavily salted, that's how. My husband got the Turkey and that too tasted overly salty . Don't mind spending money on great food but this was atrocious. Only one person liked their dish which was the crab cake. Can't even fathom how they stay in business.
