Birria tacos being cooked.
Aricka L.

Was recommended by a dear family friend to try their Sunday Pop up Stand at Los Berros Market. They start serving at 11 until the sell out at 1. Usually have two different meats. Options are $3 tacos or $3 quesadillas. Your choice of meat. There was only Birria left when we got there and a crowd. These tacos and quesadillas were legit the best I've had in a long time. We had swore to make it a weekly drive as a $6 meal can't be beat!

Quesa Birria tacos. Homemade salsa is sooo flavorful!

While exploring the nearby businesses of the hotel we were staying at, we decided to stop for an early dinner. The place looked quiet, and even though there were very few patrons, we had a short wait before being seated. (This was the first red flag) The restaurant is structured nicely with an open facing entryway to the street, allowing the sun and breeze to flow. The problem, is that it was difficult to admire the interior of the restaurant without ignoring the noticeable spiderwebs and cobwebs in the ceiling and rafters. If I can see them, then I know they can see them. They do however, have very nice indoor and outdoor patio seating, with several tv's throughout. We were served complimentary chips and salsa shortly after we were seated. The chips were light and crispy. The salsa? Awful. Very thin and runny, with absolutely no flavor. We had to have waited a good ten minutes or so before our drink order was taken. Upon taking our drink order, I also placed an order for chips & guacamole. Our waitress was friendly, but curt. After tasting the salsa I chose to play it safe and went with the chile verde enchiladas, and my wife went with the combo plate with a chicken taco and enchilada. By the time we placed our second drink order it was blatantly obvious that our waitress had completely forgotten about our order of chips and guacamole, which was confirmed when our meal arrived. I will say that the margaritas were outstanding, maybe one of the best I've had. To my surprise, the chile verde enchiladas were actually really good. Nice texture, good flavor. The rice was bland and flavorless, and I'm convinced that the black beans were straight from a can. Lacking both flavor and/or seasoning (They weren't even hot) and equally plain. My wife's meal wasn't any better. The chicken was super dry served on a sad and raw tortilla. The beans...disgusting slop. If I had any doubts about whether MY beans were canned, I had absolutely no doubt about hers. These beans were so undoubtedly canned I'm surprised they didn't still have the impression of the tin can on them. No seasoning, no flavor, and lukewarm at best. Enough is enough. I couldn't wait to pay my tab and make a swift exit.

Hopefully they've improved, but they messed up a good portion of our orders (about half of 8 orders) and I felt so bad that some were not eating while others had food. Unfortunately the service was pretty poor too, in that they were completely unaware and unapologetic. The ambiance was nice at least and the bathrooms kept up too. In a pinch, I may give them another try in the future.

Earlier during our stay, we were at the bus stop just catty-corner from this place and later decided to stop in for a final meal before moving on to our next adventure. There were absolutely no regrets! Based on the pictures -- which don't do the food nearly enough justice - the burritos were substantial! The food tasted as if your friend's mom made it for you. And, the salsas -- ohemgee! were delicious! I'm not normally a habanero person -- but this salsa added in small dollops was the perfect complement to the menudo -- not that the menudo needed much enhancement. The broth was scrumptious and well seasoned. I could tell that the broth was home-made / hand-made as I could taste the roastedness of it. The menudo was seasoned with even proportions of garlic, mild spice, and just plain good heartiness! And...what's more, is the tripe was CLEAN! There was definitely a lot to try -- but my tummy only had room for the menudo, sadly. Service was great, staff was super friendly and helpful. This place is not to be taken for granted.

This turned out to be very true. Half the customers seemed to know each other. Anyway, the ambiance is pretty thin. Not much to look at and all the food is served in paper or styrofoam containers. Help yourself to some plastic cutlery if needed. However, the food was very tasty. Certainly above average for a basic Mexican place. I ordered the carnitas plate and a chile relleno à la carte. I like to test Mexican restaurants by trying the chile relleno. That was the best part of the meal. Took a few minutes for my order because the relleno was obviously freshly made. Very well roasted poblano with just a little bite to it. Well breaded, fried, and sauced. Carnitas were very tasty as well. Service was a bit odd as they call your number and then stand there and ask you if you want everything on it and then slap it on top in front of you.

They are always busy but they are fast! You can eat in or get your food to go. Prices have gone up but, not as much as other restaurants. Chips are extra and honestly, they give you so much food, you won't need them. The Chile Rellenos are really good. There's a reason this place is so busy, the locals love it!!
