[[HIGHLIGHT]]The open-air seating was a really nice touch--perfect for a relaxed afternoon.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We both ordered pizzas, and while the center of the crust was a little on the softer side, the overall flavor was excellent. You can tell they put a lot of care into the ingredients and combinations. Stopped in here a couple weeks ago when we were in Gettysburg for the weekend. This was the second time we ate here and I have to give this a mixed review. The first time we came here, last fall, we ordered pizzas for the table (there were four of us) and we all loved the food. Pizzas were bar pies and were pretty good (coming from a pizza snob). [[HIGHLIGHT]]The drinks were a little pricey, but the service was great and we love the atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This most recent trip was not as good. We both wanted to try the bbq this time and were seated on the 'other' side. We were very confused as there was no BBQ on the menu, only to realize when the waitress came over that we didn't get the BBQ menus. We placed an order for drinks and looked over the menu, eventually we both chose a one meat combo - wifey ordered the brisket, Mac and cheese and cornbread and I had the ribs with baked beans and cole slaw. We also ordered an appetizer of hushpuppies. The sides were all fantastic...the Mac n cheese needed a touch of salt, but otherwise they were great. The hushpuppies were missing something-not sure if they put the sweet and spicy chipotle drizzle on them. Neither of us loved the meats. The brisket was tasty, but very fatty (yes, I know brisket has a fat layer, but this was very fatty). My ribs were a bit tough...again, they tasted fine, but they needed a little more time on the smoker (I'm not a fall off the bone guy, but the bite on these were a bit too much). Additionally, it too WAY too long for us to get our drinks...arrived about three minutes before our food was served. I'm sure this was a one-off, bad day, because I've heard great things about the bbq here. We're gonna stop in again next time, hopefully to bump up the rating. read more

Service was decent. But the food left much to be desired, For the price range of the pizza we expected much better. Super chewy crust and a pretty small portion, appetizers were fairly good but about average for any other chain restaurant. Other than that it's a cool building we enjoyed sitting in the window seating and watching the life in Gettysburg. read more

Visited family in PA and we went to the upper crust. It was my second time in years and well it has definitely changed. We were a party of 5 and we seated ourselves. It took a while for a server to come tend to us. Even though our server was friendly, she wasn't as attentive and the place wasn't busy. The restaurant is spacious so it's good for a big group, they also have a couple tables of pool which is fun but it does get very warm during summer. Their arcade area is FREE so that's a plus. The food was okay. The fish and chips were flavorless, the Korean bbq wings tasted good but were soggy, the chicken burger and the brisket sandwich were great. The pizza was okay, for appetizers we ordered the hush puppies and the Brussels sprouts. read more

Come for the free arcade games, and while you're here, grab some food and drinks! This place is massive--easily able to seat groups of 100+--so our family of 21 fit with no problem. The highlight for us was that the kids could enjoy the free arcade games and burn off some energy after a full day of historic tours. They had basketball shooting games (though many balls were a bit deflated), two large shuffleboards, a pool table, four working skee-ball lanes (and one out of order), plus a semi-working air hockey table that just needed a puck. Our server was friendly, but service was very slow. It took 15 minutes just to get our drink orders, and we waited 45 minutes before the first item of our food arrived. We know large groups take more time, but simple steps--like giving everyone water right away--would make a big difference. As for the food, opinions were mixed. Some in our group enjoyed the pizza. I found the "Light & Bright" salad to be exactly as described, and I loved the pine nuts and blueberries. The meat pizza was only slightly better than a $2 Sam's Club slice, while the pepperoni pizza was much better, with tasty dollops of ricotta. My daughter and I like to find non pizza chain restaurants and this #68. We ordered drinks, the pepperoni, mozzerella cheese sticks and these mac n cheese stuff balls. The appetizers were good. The pizza (the pepperoni) was just average. The sauce was not spicy barely any taste and the cheese seemed off. My wife and I first visited The Upper Crust shortly after it opened, and I will admit our experience at that time was less than positive. Recently, after spending the day at the Gettysburg Wine Festival, we decided to give it another try, and I am very glad we did. The Upper Crust has now become one of our top dining spots in Gettysburg, and we are already looking forward to our next visit. That said, I am giving the restaurant four stars instead of five because I find it to be on the pricey side. While the food is fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented, I do think the prices could be a little lower to allow room in one's budget for an adult beverage or dessert without pushing the tab too high. We started with the Light & Bright Salad--a delicious mix of Bibb lettuce, greens, toasted pine nuts, fresh berries, pickled fennel, and a red wine Dijon vinaigrette. It was fresh, vibrant, and flavorful, but at $12 each, $24 for two salads felt steep. For our main dish, we ordered the Margherita Pizza, topped with tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, and basil. It was well-balanced and satisfying, though again, $17 felt a little high for the portion. By the time taxes and tip were added, our total was just over $50 for the meal, which feels expensive in today's economy. Even with the pricing in mind, the quality and taste of the food speak for themselves, and The Upper Crust has won us over on this return visit. As a family we loved this restaurant. It is opened to outdoors but the temperature was still cool because of the big fans. We went in hungry and ordered a few appetizers, pizza, beef brisket and a burger. The brisket was on the fatty side but was juicy. The wings were nice and crispy. The pizza was great. My son and I were playing shuffleboard incorrectly while awaiting our food and the manager Jacob came and introduced himself and actually showed us how to play. My son loved the restaurant and wanted to eat there the next day as well and told me I better mention Jacob in my review. Jacob also hand delivered our pizza to us, we were very impressed by him. We were very disappointed with our most recent visit. Our intention was to order food from the ribs place that adjoins the restaurant. That's usually possible but wasn't on the particular night we went. Apparently the ribs staff was working with a group of trivia players. I ordered wings & only ate a few of them. They had way too much heavy sauce on them for my taste. That sauce was also too spicy. My husband ordered pepperoni pizza & it was dull dull dull. At the very least it needed more pepperoni. We ate dinner at this restaurant last night and you should stay clear. We ordered barbecue chicken, ribs, and sides. The green beans were burned, the coleslaw really had very little flavor, and the baked beans were straight out of a can. The barbecue was OK. There are better places around & you should try them. If you're looking for service, this is not the restaurant you want. We asked for our drinks three times finally got them after I walked up to the service area & asked after they already brought our food. I was ready to go behind the counter and get our own drinks. HUGE place right in downtown Gettysburg that is technically 2: wood fired pizza and BBQ. We tried the smoked chicken pizza and it was phenomenal! While we ordered the BBQ sausage there was a miscommunication and when we saw the size of the pizza we opted to just stick with the one order. Despite the mix up service was on point! Wait staff was friendly and chit chatted about the day. Large options for beer, liquor, and mixed drinks as well. The good thing about this restaurant is the variety of pizzas and the handmade crust. It really hit the spot! One featured Mediterranean food, One featured Barbeque, Another for drinks, one for Pizza, and another for seasonal items. All were 2 sided. I started with peach bourbon wings as an appetizer. The wings tasted like nothing, I asked for more of the sauce thinking that might help but it was worse. I was given a cold cup of something that looked like apple butter. I decided to keep it simple for the entree. They have 3 woodfire ovens and it is a pizza place but the pizza was a no-go as well. After the dirty water glass & bug in my drink. Stopped here for lunch while staying in town. Located across from our hotel, so it was a no-brainer to come here for lunch. First, one thing to mention right off the rip is there is plenty of room here. I would say it's probably the largest seating restaurant in Gettysburg. I want to say there were 60 tables? as well as a bar area, and a small arcade in the very rear. There are 3-4 ovens with cooks wheelin' and dealin' pies to push back the crowds. We were sat immediately and ordered drinks. Obviously, being a pizza place we split 3 pies as they were 12" in size. We got: Margherita: Not the best I have ever had, but the lack of enough basil leaves was troubling to me. Spinach: White pizza pie with spinach on top and balsamic glaze. Would have liked this to be leaves added at the time of serving - instead the spinach was wilted and just seemed off. Pepperoni: Was good overall - but something again was very pedestrian. Overall I thought the dough would have char to it and be more of a softer inside. Don't get me wrong the pizzas weren't bad - just like they were missing something. Would recommend. read more

We stopped in for dinner on a Wednesday night. Service was prompt and friendly. Our server Emma was very kind. The food was really subpar. My husband got the Korean wings, which he'd typically like but didn't even eat one full one. I ordered us a plain cheese pizza to split. It took a while because apparently the first one caught on fire in the oven and they needed to make another. Well, almost wish we got the charred one because the pizza we did get had the floppiest crust imaginable. I think if the crust was more well done, it would have been better since the flavor itself wasn't bad. I do wish we had more napkins though because either the grease or the EVOO they top the pizza with falls right off with our thin the crust is. Probably contributed to it being soggy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The other note is the bathrooms. Gettysburg in general always impresses me with how clean everything is outside and inside the businesses but this bathroom was rough. It reminded me of a college bar bathroom. Loved this restaurant. First thing it is HUGE literally about 20,000 sq ft. The set up is really nice. The front wall of the restaurant opens up like a garage door I would say about 3 garage doors in length. They have booths and tables up front. In the middle are the wood burning ovens they cook the pizza in. We order the white spinach pizza with spinach, pecorino, mozzarella, goat cheese, balsamic reduction and evoo ( extra virgin olive oil ). So Delicious!! My husband had a York mixed drink and I had a glass of the Pinot Noir - Parducci, Mendocino County, California. Really nice red - to me a mix between a soft and sharp wine. The pizza crust is remarkable with perfect texture and chew, but lacks originality. The service was fast and the servers kind. The ambience and sound in the restaurant lives up to expectations. I had mixed feelings about Fire Pit Pizza. The ambiance was cozy and the staff were friendly, but the food didn't quite live up to the hype. So, we love the Upper Crust, we frequently stopp in for lunch however not a good experience this time. The service was absolutely terrible, and I don't name drop with bad reviews. Walked in on the July 4th holiday Monday, not very busy and they did have at least 8 servers that I counted. We ordered 2 pizzas and my wife ordered the pulled pork sandwich. The pizzas came ahead of my wife's sandwich, I asked for crushed red peppers and parmeasian cheese. Well, minutes went by and still no peppers or cheese so I grabbed another server asking for it and it came in a timely fashion. 15 minutes after we got our pizza my wife's sandwich came and she ordered it with extra sauce on the side. Not only did it come with no sauce on the side it came dry without the sauce on the sandwich that's supposed to come on it. So she waited almost 8 minutes for someone to bring sauce so at this point my wife didn't want the sandwich and declined it. And note they did remove it from the check. The pizza is always good here and today was no different, nice lite Crust with good crunch and chew with the perfect amount of sauce and topping. We asked for a box for the pizza we couldn't eat and we were brought these tiny plastic containers that one slice of pizza couldn't ever fit in but we got that situation corrected easily. Listen, I get it, people do have bad days, I'm not unreasonable or a jerk customer, but when you pay to eat out you expect certain things and they fell way short today but we will be back hopefully with better service. Pizza dough had no flavor. Not even salt. Looked better than it tasted. Brisket was full of fat and flavorless. Food was subpar. My expectations were high based on the ambience and how crowded it was but it was a flop, unfortunately. Sad because it's a cool place. read more
