Hubby wanted pizza so to Yelp we go to determine the restaurant. UCP was close to our motel and offers delivery, but we elected to pick up. They have an order/pick up window facing the parking lot, which is very convenient and appreciated. We saw others parking and picking up, so pace remained brisk for a Wednesday night. When hubby's pie was ready, his name was called and brought outside for him, fresh and piping hot. Smelled delicious and looked fantastic. He declared it very yummy and was happy with his dinner. Service yes was a little slow but very friendly and sweet. basically it looked like all high school kids were running the place but doing a great job. The food was very generous portions but a very mediocre sauce. Marinara should not be loaded with chunks of mushrooms and veg--just tomatoes and garlic and maybe basil. But pasta was cooked correctly and a very tender crispy tasty eggplant. Salads were routine with store bought dressings in a plastic container. Decent beer and wine selection for Bishop honestly. Didn't get pizza but the people we saw with it, looked ok. But this meal was heaven after days and days of meats and fried food menus in the eastern sierras. We were in town for a camping trip and decided to go to a local Pizza place on the last day. We are happy we found this place. It was delicious! Every item was above and beyond a normal pizza place. The crispy and soft crust on the pizza was too good to leave on the plate. We had the rodeo pizza, the margarita pizza, and a pepperoni pizza. The rodeo was my favorite but they were all tasty. We ordered mozzarella sticks that were not your typical mozzarella sticks they were large and had an amazing batter around them. The spicy honey bbq wings were also very tasty! I just finished my meal. The pizza and root beer float was outstanding. I also order some pasta with chicken. The chicken was not only bone dry, but had a spoil taste to it. By the time, my entrees had come, I had already eaten the salad that came with the pasta. The pasta total order was $23 and they charged with $8 for the salad. The poor waiter told me that since I eaten the salad, it would come out of his check if he was to credit it. Suffice to say that while some of the food was wonderful, I will not be returning in terms of how this manager wanted to handle it. She offer to discount my salad by 80 cents as a concession. I eat out at least one meal a day regularly and I never had such disappointing managing experience in how the service issue was handled. For pizza they continue to do an unremarkable job-- but considering their location in the eastern Sierras, where you don't have a lot of choices, an unremarkable job is just fine. Salads might actually be slightly better executed than the pizza. Came here with the family on a Wednesday around 2pm. Ordered the medium pizza and chicken fettuccine pasta. The place was empty which made us a bit apprehensive thinking it wasn't going to be good. This was my third visit, first in several years. I forgot how good it is. This time I had the Pastrami Sandwich with Potato and Leek Soup. The Pastrami was thick cut and tasted home made. It was definitely not your standard pastrami. The bread was a piece of crusty French Bread. I'm sure it was either homebaked or came from a local bakery. The pickles with Kosher Garlic Dills, not the sour dills so often used on sandwiches. The Potato and Leek Soup was so creamy and flavorful. I would have loved a couple more bowels. read more

In town for Thanksgiving with my niece's family and Wednesday night, we ordered 3 pizzas from Upper Crust: 2 mammoth size combination pizzas and one small margarita pizza. These pizzas were ordered for pickup and yet they still were asking for a tip between 18 and 25%. For what? In addition, these pizzas had virtually no toppings on them. They were literally the least topped pizzas I had ever seen. Even Dominoes puts more toppings on their pizza than Upper Crust. With a bill north of $100, this was a terrible experience. I have only gotten take out from this business, but I have been very surprised at how expensive it is for a large pizza. The staff was always very nice, though it has take a long time to be acknowledged when we have come in to get our take out, even when it is seemingly quite slow. I really wanted to support this local business, but nearly $50 for one pizza (half pepperoni, half combo) is unreasonable. Slid in at 8:45 pm (they close at 9:00 pm) and the host invited us to have seat and order. We were prepared to get take out, but we took him up on his generous offer. Kira was our waitress. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. We ordered two garden salads with blue cheese dressing and a medium meat lovers with artichoke, onions, mushrooms, and green olives. There are few, if any, "bad" pizzas, but this one was really good. It was not too sweet and the perfect amount of savory. The meats, especially the Italian sausage were delicious. It was a great way to end a long day of driving. Interestingly enough, the restaurant came highly recommended by a gentleman that we met at the visitor center in Virginia City, NV. Called and immediately was put on hold for ten minutes without a choice. Called back ordered a pizza and wings for delivery. Delivered the wrong pizza then was asked if I touched the pizza that was delivered mistakenly. Was put on hold so they could find my pizza at another delivery location. Told them I didn't want my pizza if it was delivered to a different location. They sent a driver back to pick up wrongfully delivered pizza from my location. Then asked me if I want my pizza that I ordered. To which I replied no not if someone else had it in their possession. To which the driver said oh yeah right. Called them back and told them I would pick up a fresh pizza from the location. The girl on the phone was very nice during this whole ordeal. She said that she would tell her manager. We talked about a refund she said she would tell her manager again. Drove to the location walked inside. Spoke to the manager he said they messed up my order. He grabbed my pizza sitting on top of the oven in a box. I asked him if it was fresh or was he just keeping it warm on top of the oven. He told me they just got it out. I took the pizza after briefly looking at it and left. I came back in to the restaurant to see if they would refund me the delivery fee to which he gave me three dollars. He had an attitude during this entire process and was carried a rude demeanor. He offered nothing not even a sincere apology . I got the pizza home and it was tough and leathery. Like it had been sitting for a while on top of the oven. I won't order from them again unfortunately. I don like being lied to and made to seem like I'm the problem for their mistake. We are visiting and actually here on business. We might have had too high expectations being that we are from a bigger city. However I was disappointed in a couple of things with this place. Hear me out! We selected this place based on Yelp reviews. We always use Yelp for eating out. And we love trying new places. I'm looking at the menu prior to arriving and I noticed the prices were a little high but was open to some delicious food. I don't mind paying if I'm getting the equivalent in return. I assumed some of the dishes were large portions like family style due to the pricing. For example my husband ordered the lasagna. It's over $18 so you can imagine my surprise when he was given a 4x4 inch square piece of lasagna. I actually thought I was going to get some until I saw the portion he received. I ordered a pizza. The part that disappointed me was that it wasn't even warm. We drove back to our air bnb, maybe 5 minutes, and my pizza tore apart like a cold pizza does. The cheese wasn't even stringy. Good thing we had access to a microwave. There was four of us. Our total order was $87. Like I said I didn't mind paying that until I saw the food. I asked for a side of ranch and after dropping almost $90 on four meals I was told they charge $2 and something. I'm like what? Are you kidding me. For ranch dressing. That's like McDonald's trying to charge me for ketchup. All in all the flavor of the food was good. That is what the two stars are for. We come to bishop often but we won't come back or recommend this place. Would love to help them improve in their business and I hope this review does that.
