This would have been the worst dining experience if we hadn't had a nightmare breakfast at Denny's on the way out. My wife, daughter and self have been to this restaurant several times under the last management and were satisfied with the simple, reasonably priced seafood entrees. This time however was different. When we got there we immediately noticed how cold it was in the restaurant. Doors were left open on this chilly evening. I am a large person who rarely is too cold but it was brisk enough inside for me to go to the car and grab my north face jacket. The waitress came over and took our order. My daughter ordered a bowl of clam chowder and asked if she could have a piece of bread with it. The waitress said they don't do that. Typically restaurants will give a kid a slice of bread considering that's there were several sandwiches on the menu but not here. My wife got the fish and chips and I had fried clams. The food took a while and the waitress was non existent. We had to ask other waitresses for water refills. The food came out and was pretty awful. My daughters clam chowder was horrible to say the least. It was watery and briney. I would be willing to bet the price of the meal that my wife's fish was previously frozen or just not fresh. It was also severely over cooked. My clams were flavorless and chewy. We will never go back here and I would recommend going elsewhere as well. The worst dinner ever!!! We had a reservation for 8 people at 6:30 for dinner. It took them more then an hour to bring our appetizers out. People that came after us got their food way before we got ours. After we complained about the extensive wait to the waiter he got very uncomfortable and wasn't able to explain what was the hold up all about. He had to call the manager and she told us that the wings that my kids ordered take a while...an hour!!!! That is unheard of! The main course came rather quickly but mostly because we complained. After dinner we asked for a check and it was a surprise as well. The check itself had only the charges and no items next to any of the charges. We asked about some questionable charges and were told that gratuities were included, not just any gratuities, but 18% of it!!! We definitely weren't paying gratuities for such a flop of a dinner and expressed that to the waiter, who called the manager. She was extremely rude and unprofessional, telling us that we were a problem the entire evening and that it is standard to pay 18% gratuities for parties of 6 or more. Mind you that none of that was written on the menu or anywhere else for that matter. We told the manager that after such an unprofessional and disorganized service that took us more than an hour to get our food, we were not about to paying gratuities. She threatened to call the police which we weren't opposed to. She finally came to her senses and removed gratuities from our bill, saying that she would have to pay that to the waiter herself and that we were obnoxious....seriously?!! What a dump the Upper Deck is. Don't waist your time going there. The only thing they have going for them is a spectacular view. read more

I don't even want to give this place one star but I don't have a choice. I honestly can't even comment on the food because I couldn't get passed the rude and extremely unwelcoming staff. We arrived with 6 people, all aged between 24-28, with me being the oldest. We show up and sit outside and we don't even get a welcome 'hi how are you' instead we get a 'ID's out now.' Ok, fine- hi to you too. So we all pull out our ID's and they take mine and fold it in half and tell me it's a photo copied ID. Ok, no it is not. I'm from New York and it's an older ID so I get that it looks weird if you are not used to it but you have a restaurant in a tourist town so get an ID scanner. They literally harassed me with questions and still were telling me it's a fake ID. I'm 28 years old, really? I even showed them my credit card with my matching name and this lady still gave me a hard time. Finally another server came over and asked me more questions before they were finally ok with it but at that point in time I was so aggravated, as was the rest of the party I was with that we just got up and left. I've never felt so embarrassed and harassed at an establishment in my entire life. People actually laughed at us as we left. It was horrifying. Don't spend a dime in this place. Five star view, but a 2 star lobster roll lunch. Ordered the lobster roll and it comes with fries and slaw. Won't sub a side salad. Have to pay $5.95. Stayed with the slaw. The plate came but they forgot the slaw. It was 10 mins before the waitress returned and I could ask for my slaw. Fries were ok but the came from a frozen box and were eh... Maine grows the best potatoes. Why not use them?Put them in the cutter. Pull the handle down. Done. Fries. Lobster Roll: meat came shredded. No chunks. Really? Small amount of lobster atop a big pile of lettuce to make it look like there's more than there is. Also, the roll was horribly stale and smelled like it too. It was so stale it crumbled even though it was soaked I butter or something and fried. Seriously detracted from the LR. Prices were a little high too. But I guess real estate is expensive here and they have to pay for it somehow. There are better Lobster Rolls all over. That's all I ate. Not sure about dinner. read more

This place place falls way short of its potential. We usually go by Yelp to help us find our places in unfamiliar towns but cell service isn't the best in this area. We drove by the Upper Deck and saw the view and heard some tunes coming from the place so we turned around and decided to go for it. My family and I (wife and 2 kids) were eventually met by a woman, who I believe was the person in charge, who told us "?" would seat us. This brought the hostess to attention who came out to then seat us. The hostess proceeded to seat us to a table with an outstanding view of the harbor. The menu is decent but then when you look you notice that somethings are served until 5 pm and other items are served after 5 pm. How about you just have a lunch menu and dinner menu instead of putting all these items that interested customers only to have them realize they may not be able to order it. Our waiter was not the most enthusiastic...our drink order did come very quickly. Then is when the disappointment came.... After the drinks arrived we needed a minute to look at the menu...15 minutes later we had to ask another server if she knew where our waiter was. She went to get him and we saw him hustle but he hustled past our area. It then took a few more minutes for him to approach our table. There was zero concern for the lack of attention paid to the length of time to take our food order. When I asked for the tab for our drink orders he looked like he was disgusted at us for wanting to leave. I paid our drink tab and as I was leaving I looked for the woman in charge. Bad Service. Lobster was overcooked. Don't get the garlic mashed potatoes--they were simply disgusting. We waited a long time for just water to be served and then we waited even longer to get our bill at the end. There are better places to go on the island. I got one of the deluxe entrees - crab cakes with a dijon sauce, garlic mashed potatoes and grilled vegetable medley. It sounded great but was just okay - just not done really well. The crab cakes didn't have a lot of crab in them, and the veggies tasted a little too charred - should have done either bigger pieces or less cooking. I did have a great Bar Harbor microbrew, and the ambience on the deck out back overlooking the harbor from an elevated perspective while the sun was setting, was fantastic. All in all I enjoyed my meal here. Maybe the chef is more at home with the less ambitious dishes that make up most of the menu. read more

I would give no stars if it was an option. Absolute worst dining experience of my life. We ordered two appetizers, drinks and dinners. Drinks came about 20 minutes after we ordered. We waited almost two hours for our dinners - two hours with no apology and no explanation. About 40 minutes into the wait, our server told us the crab cakes were out and we had to pick a different meal. He didn't bring menus with him and had to double back. The whole ordeal probably tacked an extra 15 minutes onto our already long wait. One appetizer never even came. The fried clam appetizer arrived with about six clams, pitiful. The steamed clams never arrived. We asked four times and kept being told they were on their way. The last time we asked was after we had finished our meals. The server brought our check and we had to ask for him to remove the clams that never came. We shouldn't have had to ask. The salmon serving was tiny, the Caesar salad was drenched in dressing, disgusting. It was unclear if the server even removed the appetizer that never arrived from the bill because the bill was a disaster to read, prices with no itemization. At that point, we were exhausted and so ready to go home. Nothing was offered to apologize for the terrible service and food. We'll NEVER be back. Should have trusted the other reviewers but we took a risk. Big mistake. Do NOT eat here. read more

Me and my boyfriend went here one sunday night. And yes we are locals from the island. First of all when we walked in I had fruit flies flying all around my face. And then we finally sat down and I looked out the window and the flies and spider stuck in the window frame was nasty. Once the (rude) waitress came over she asked if we were ready to order yet. Hence the fact we've been waiting 20 minutes. I said 'Yes we are?' Ordered our food and sure enough 20 minutes later our food comes out. I ask the lady who brought the food out because we have not gotten our appetizer yet. And they apologized for it and everything and took of just one of my boyfriends beers that he got. Which were flat and warm. Our bill was still $60!! I got lobster mac and cheese (there was a lot of lobster in it but really you should cut the meat up before throwing a whole lobster tail in there) he got a burger and our appetizer was only 5 pieces of chicken wings. We went here on very uncrowded Monday night. We sat outside on the deck and 20 minutes later still hadn't had wait staff come by. We were sat by a hostess but no one noticed us. So we went inside and 10 minutes later someone gave us a table setting. We finally placed our order, and of the requests was for them to allow us to put our own dressing on the salad and for the Clam Chowder to be hot. When the salad came, the dressing was on it. We sent the Clam Chowder back because it was cold. Overall the food was OK,but nothing special. This place seems to change hands a lot, and maybe they need to work stuff out. But the service was just bad so I cannot recommend. read more

We were excited to see this place reopen. It was never anything fancy but had a decent fish sandwich and good water views. The blond manager is over her head and very defensive and rude. The waitresses are kids but untrained ones. Waited 10 minutes to be seated while the mgr chatted. Waited another 15 minutes for her to come & take our order. The fish sandwiches were ok tasting and I so hope they can pull it together. I think this lady needs to tend the bar and not manage the place. read more

Best lobster roll in Maine! They make their own brioche style rolls which are delicately toasted. The lobster is tender with the perfect amount of mayo and nothing else. The deck overlooks the harbor making it the perfect Maine moment. read more

Looks inviting but turn around and go somewhere else. Service was horrible and a not so welcoming place. We came in and the employees didn't even recognize us. We had an 11-month old with us and I asked for a high chair and none of the waitresses brought one until I asked my husband to grab one over for us. It took forever for them to take our order (staff seems confused who's waiting on us) and it took forever for the food to come! If we weren't in desperate need of food for 4 hungry little tummies, I would have walked out the door already. Also, I should've done my research on Yelp before going in. Food wasn't even good. I've had better seafood inland and kids' Mac n cheese and chicken fingers were terrible! My not so picky son won't even have any parts of the chicken fingers.
