    Haddock sandwich with fries
    Ashley B.

Really good food and beautiful view of the harbor with quick service! We stopped while wandering around the area and were pleasantly surprised. Lobster roll was absolutely delicious with super good fries and Cole slaw. My husband enjoyed his haddock sandwich and agreed his fries were also really good.

I'm giving The Upper Deck one star because both of our visits were consistently disappointing, and our most recent experience was bad enough that we won't be returning. The view is the only redeeming quality, but the service and value fall far below what you'd expect in Southwest Harbor. On our first visit, my mom ordered blackened haddock and was served halibut instead. No apology, no correction -- just the wrong dish placed in front of her. That should've been our sign not to come back. We returned for our son's 4th birthday, hoping things would be better. They weren't. My beer took over 15 minutes to arrive and showed up warm, even with an ice glass. At that point, it wasn't worth drinking. I also ordered a flatbread and was charged $15 for something smaller than my hand. The portion size was honestly shocking, especially for the price. The worst part was the tip. This wasn't an automatic gratuity like some restaurants add for large parties -- the server manually selected a 20% tip for herself and then claimed our four‑year‑old "hit the button." That felt intentionally misleading and completely unacceptable. Two visits, two bad experiences. Beautiful view, but the service, honesty, and value simply aren't there. Sharing this so others know what to expect.

    Scallops to die for!

If hunger is the best sauce, then the "sauce" dished out at The Upper Deck is exceptional! We sat outside overlooking the picturesque marina and harbor. Server Judah kicked things off for us with local beers and the beer battered lobster nuggets. The best was yet to come: perfectly cooked halibut and a very generous serving of local scallops lounging in a butter and white wine sauce. Both mains came with potatoes and a medley of veggies. We appreciated the low-key ambiance of Southwest Harbor after two days in bustling Bar Harbor. Two thumbs up!

We were looking for a lunch restaurant while driving in Acadia and one of our group found this online so we decided to check it out. We were able to find a table for 6 so that was nice. My wife and I shared a chicken wrap and a bowl of clam chowder and a chicken wrap and a side salad while friends shared lobster rolls and we all enjoyed our lunch. Leslie was a very good server and friendly and shared stories about the restaurant and some personal stuff. Today was a cash only day and Leslie shared it was because everything was being donated to a local charity. One thing about this restaurant is good food and decent prices compared to others that we've been in on our trip. Another is that the owners have a sense of humor some think and very funny and others not as much with signs in the restaurant and restrooms. Going out on the deck (too windy and cold to eat outside there are great views of the ocean.

Great beer, great food (caprese flatbread and fish bites), fun live music, and an outstanding view. Service was great as well. All around a 5/5 and we will be back!

Food was fine, lobster sandwich the usual restaurant. Restaurant decor is the usual outdoor seating. There's no thousand island dressing on the island in South Harbor Maine. The ambiance was nice outside seating views of the boat's.

Mussels with rosemary/garlic sauce and calamari

Came here for lunch, seating was a little slow but the food made up for it. Both had regular drinks, then ordered calamari was very fresh and tasty, also had the mussels with rosemary/garlic herb sauce very fresh and full of flavor I wanted to drink all the juice(so good) and I also had their Diablo burger(jalapeño and cheddar) and let me say it was by far one of the best burgers I've ever had, I don't know what they put on it but it was delish, perfectly(cooked medium) don't even know how to describe it but it was amazing.

We had such a great lunch there one day that we decided to go back for dinner. Dinner was great and service was outstanding. We met the owner/cook and fun to hear his story. Highly recommend and views were the best.

I loved the view from our seat as there are so many boats it's fascinating. They have a nice drink menu and I chose a martini that had blueberry vodka and rhubarb. It was very tasty. Our server was very nice and helpful. The menu has a variety of sandwiches, salads and entrees. I wasn't all that hungry so I ordered a flatbread. We waited quite a while, and when it arrived, I thought I had been served a kids pizza. This flatbread was tiny and the crust wasn't really cooked. This was not at all what I was expecting. Although I enjoyed the view, the food wasn't what I anticipated.

After a long day of hiking and driving, the Upper Deco was the perfect dinner spot. The service was wonderful, the atmosphere was laid back, and the food was great! What better way to end the day? The view of the harbor was so peaceful. We enjoyed some lobster bites (not pictured) and some seafood dip (also not pictured) but delightful nonetheless. I would recommend the shrimp scampi or the clam chowder!

The staff are friendly. As a self proclaimed foodie family, we could not have been more impressed by Dahlia's during our four day stay at The Asticou Hotel. During our time, we enjoyed breakfast, lunch and two dinners at the hotel's restaurant. For breakfast we enjoyed the Oatmeal and Blueberry Pancakes on our final morning before heading to our next destination. Both dishes were delcious. There are a number of other great options but we kept it simple for our travel day. For lunch, we had the Child's Mini Burgers, the Child's Steak and Potatoes, the Smash Burger and the Chicken Sandwich. The burgers were by far the best of the trip. My husband said the chicken sandwich was a quality one as well. The only disappointing item served were the French fries as they appeared to just be frozen string fries. We prefer fresh cut fries. Dahila's offers a fantastic children's menu selection that caters to picky eaters and more adventurous eaters. My son was impressed by his steak and potato dish and so were we. I saw another child's salmon at dinner one night and it looked impressive for another child option. For the less adventurous eaters, they also offer Mac and cheese and a grilled cheese. For dinner both nights we started with the local raw oysters and popovers. Both starters were a hit each night. The Gulf Maine Halibut with lobster risotto was absolutely perfection both nights. The fish, the risotto and vegetables could not have been prepared any better. It's rare to find a restaraunt that nails every component of a dish but Dahlia's did just that with this dinner entree. To wrap up both dinners we had the children's sundae and blueberry pie. Our boys could not have been more satisfied with their sundaes. The blueberry pie was the best dessert of the trip! The pie which is more like a tart is served warm with a lemon curd on the side and vanilla bean icecream. It was truly divine. Dahlia's is worth visiting during your stay in the Bar Harbor area. It is pricey but the quality of the food is worth it. Be sure to make a reservation especially if you are going for dinner as it fills up quickly in the evening.

The hotel is in a great location, in the middle of MDI. It was easy to get to and from the national park and to downtown bar harbor from the hotel. The rooms were immaculate and so well decorated. The pool area is very picturesque with plenty of places to sit and lounge for the day. We enjoyed both a dinner and breakfast at Dahlias which overlooks the pool as well as the harbor. Our food was deciduous and the setting was perfect. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They made sure to send up a small gift to our room to celebrate our anniversary, which was a great touch. We will definitely plan to be back!

Desert Island's Somes Sound--alone, but the service and food were fantastic, too. We stopped in for a late lunch / early dinner during our Acadia vacation based on a recommendation from a co-worker and we are very glad we did. I had the fish sandwich with fries and a specialty cocktail made with bourbon, ginger beer and honey (I forget the name). The fish sandwich came for way more than enough perfectly cooked haddock and a crunchy and delicious beer-batter crust. The fries we excellent, too (they can so easily be bland and boring, but these were not!) The cocktail was ice-cold (perfect for this hot summer day) and delicious, if a little sweet. My partner had the Mediterranean Plate which came with Grilled Flat Bread, Hummus, Tzatziki, Marinated Cucumber Salad, Marinated Olives, and Feta. She loved all 'the subtle and distinct flavors that went together so well!' Note that Batson River Fish Camp has two locations and is part of Batson River Brewing and Distilling. This location is on the beautiful grounds of the Claremont Hotel in Southwest HarbFor, ME.
