The chili wontons here are out of this world! I order them every chance I get. If I had unlimited money I swear I would eat them for lunch everyday! (since I work a block away) They are not overly spicy but the chili oil has such a delicious flavor, I cant help but drink the last of it cause I don't want it to go to waste! Their veggie lo mein is so flavorful and the noodles are always perfectly soft! Another favorite for me is the chicken chop suey! A no-noodle dish with veggies and chicken! Perfect for the carb-challenged! Mapo tofu rocks hard too! I'd say all the dishes on the menu are a hit! You really can't go wrong with anything. Parking: In a huge open lot. Not too hard to find parking space. Even if it were busy, I don't think you'll have too hard of a time of finding a space. I give props to the waiters as we had a big group of almost 20 go in. They quickly rearranged the tables so that we all would sit together. They still had plenty of seats nearby. They were all pretty friendly, and didn't give us the "hurry and order" attitude. The store is also kept nice and clean. The bathrooms are in the back. The food, it was okay. It did not have any particularly standing dish as we ordered plenty. Everything tasted fine, but was not so good that we had to clean the plate off. There's also one bowl of rice for every entree. I would say that one entree per person is way too much. Taking probably 3 people to 2 plates is a good ratio. Would definitely want to try other things in that area before come back. STIR FRIED STRING BEANS: These do not come out spicy, which is fine. Love getting string beans at any chinese restaurant that I go to. Would get this again! MAPO TOFU: I've gotten this dish both regular and less spicy. The less spicy still has a good kick to it. If spicy isn't your thing, I'd definitely recommend saying very little spicy. Great to eat over rice and would get this again. FISH FILLET WITH BLACK BEAN SAUCE: This was a little salty. Overall it was okay. Not sure if this would crave this again. SINGAPOREAN RICE VERMICELLI FRIED NOODLES: This is so good! If you've never had this before, highly recommend. Noodles aren't "fried" crunchy (refer to photo), but have a nice slight curry flavor to it. Would get this again. STIR FRIED BROCCOLI & MUSHROOMS: This was okay. Came out exactly as I expected. Wow ! What a great little place! My husband was really craving good beef and broccoli and love trying new places and we ended up here! So glad he picked this place because it didn't disappoint.... The place was very clean and everyone was soo friendly ! Ordered the egg drop soup and it wasn't gelatonous or unflavored... this was light and full of egg and veggies mushrooms and flavorful. Next our pork fried rice didn't taste oily or greasy, we ordered the Shanghai vermicelli noodles and that had a hint of curry to it and was nice light noodles and the star was the beef and broccoli ! Soo fresh and soo good ! Did not taste oily or old at all. Hds a great lunch experience here on a Saturday around 1:30-2. Greeted warmly in Mandarin by staff as we were walking in (and heard them greet to English speakers as well) and seated right away at a booth. Menus are bilingual and include some pictures. We had beef stew noodle soup (紅燒牛肉麵) and beef flat noodle stir fry (乾炒牛河) and while they weren't the best we've had (nor should they be compared to equivalents in the SGV), they are solid dishes for not only this restaurant, but would be solid if in other restos as well. Put in context of this region, and paired with a solid boba milk tea and smoothie lineup, it's a head above everyone else. So, visited the upper house for their convenience and hours. I had a staple to always try the beef noodle soup, and the person I was with had to try their eggplant dish. Food: The noodle soup was pretty good in flavor but their meat was a little over cooked and the noodles they used didn't complement the soup. It felt like vermicelli noodles. Eggplant veggie dish was good, but the style of cooking it had a texture like they pre-fried it. Then masked it with the sauce. Lastly, the black bean chicken was pretty good. I think, that was the only dish I enjoyed the most. Which, the server recommended. I ate it with some pickled cabbage that came wth the beef noodle soup. It added some more flavor. Service was good and attentive, compared to most Chinese places. I kind of felt a bit rushed for our order. It was also nice that the meal came with rice without ordering it. The location is a little hidden. And the decor has a comfort western feeling. So, it was nice. Still want to come back to try it a second time. Their dessert and drink selection looks amazing. Update: I have been back to this restaurant several times in the last 2 years. The food is really the flavors you would expect from a Americanized Asian restaurant. They are pretty much doing what all the Asian restaurants do. Boba drinks, spun ice desserts, smoothies, Chinese food, noodles, seafood and vegetable dishes. I think the menu is way too large for the very small size of the facility. I always play it safe and order a chicken, shrimp or veggie dish There is no way all the various meats and fish on the menu can be fresh not frozen. They don't have the capacity to move the products. Last time I was there I ordered potstickers. They were not made in-house. It was clear they were a commercial frozen product that was reheated The facility is clean, of all the basic Chinese restaurants in the area, this one is good, but average. This is probably my favorite Chinese restaurant in the Claremont area. I come here with friends, I come here by myself, and I will also get takeout from here. My go to dish is always pork chop rice. You can never fail with this one. It's so flavorful and good! It also comes with decent side dishes to enhance the flavor. Today I got egg with beef over rice and my friend got bok choy with beef over rice. They were both really good! I would recommend them. The egg one had a lighter flavor, not as intense whereas the bok choy dish was quite flavorful and salty. Both of these dishes were quite large. I finished about 2/3 of it hand took the rest home. In the past, I've ordered the tofu in black bean sauce (also a favorite of mine!). I usually add beef to it to give it more texture, but the dish itself also has snap peas, so you get some veggies in there. It comes with a bowl of rice. When I get this, I either come with a friend and we split it, or I sat about 1/3 of it. This dish is GIGANTIC. Maybe it's because it's really good with the rice so I get full easily, but this dish is good for sharing. For dessert, my absolute favorite is the red bean with rice ball and boba. On a cold day, this hot dessert really hits the spot. It's the perfect sweetness and you get the softness of the rice balls, the chewiness of the boba, and the smoothness of the red bean. Truly a magical dessert. I would come here after a meal just to get it! One thing I didn't have a great experience with here was the boba milk tea. The milk tea is pre made and tastes a little artificial (too much creamer maybe?). The boba was also a little hard at the center... definitely not the best. You can get boba elsewhere. Service: service is very nice here. You May have to wave them down to gram their attention, but they are all very nice and welcoming. We usually get our food from Szechuwan Garden but decided to give this place a try. Got the popcorn chicken and potstickers for appetizers and ma po tofu and kung pao chicken for entrees. The popcorn chicken DID NOT taste anything like chicken. All you could taste was the oil it was fried in. The Ma Po tofu had no flavor and the chicken that was used in the Kung Pao chicken was of the same quality as the popcorn chicken. Needless to say, we won't be ordering from here again! read more
