I visited UPS in Castro Valley today and these people are so rude. I went to return an item I purchased at Amazon that has a contract with UPS for return items. I had printed off the Amazon page that said to take my item opened with the return label they sent to me and that UPS will package and send back. I brought this email with me to show them word for word and they refused to package the item. Told me I had to do it. She gave me the tape and a sleeve for the label but refused to package it. What kind of customer service is this. Very, very rude people. I went here one other time at Christmas to send a package and they made people stand outside in the cold even though there was plenty of room in the store. They kept asking me personal information when I finally got to the counter and kept putting it into their computer without even asking permission. UPS is not in charge of all our information and they have no right to do this. The USA is not Nazi Germany. I should never have complied. When I asked why they needed all this personal information she refused to answer me and just asked for payment. UPS needs to get a clue and have these people in Castro Valley observed. Very rude. Only walked in to drop something off and worker bluntly says they aren't taking drop offs bc their system is down. I understand if your system is down & it's frustrating but no need to be rude the second someone walks in the store as if you are annoyed at every customer..Ended up going to Greenhouse location & they were very nice & welcoming. Same thing happened to the guy behind me that walked in & the clerk ended up going straight to the back after telling him no bluntly as well. Maybe put a sign up then? I am leaving a 1 star review because this is the only ups store that has forced me to get a receipt. My work requires me to drop off things at UPS all the time & i frequent various locations throughout the bay. I have to say, I can see why everyone is complaining, this place is SO BUSY! It is Christmas, they need to hire more people. Mary an Shana were amazing! They were the only two working, and they were working there butts off! Nobody was rude, actually quite the opposite, both ladies kept apologizing for the wait and kept trying to communicate with everyone. There one and only computer was out of order, from all the reviews that sounds pretty common. So I'm giving the store two stars because they don't have enough employees working, and if you going to have only one computer you better make sure it's working! The customer service has gotten so sour. I have good luck with the notaries, but the clerks are rude to everyone.

Came here to drop off a very small USPS package as I do occasionally at other UPS locations. This place asked me to pay one dollar just to drop off my USPS package and said they cannot give me a receipt. This sounds very shady. I hope that UPS management sees this because this practice does not sound legitimate. read more

Horrible customer service and they charge twice as much as the U. S. postal service. I was in the store and found out that they don't deliver to post boxes. I contacted the package recipient and got a physical Address but at 5:01 the store employees refused to process the item to mail because they close at 5:00 even though I was in the store. The U.S. postal Service provides much better service. So save your money and time and go to U.S post office instead. read more

Both of the African-American lady in the front cashier was rude. It was my first time doing certified mailing and I was asking questions and they gave me a face. No smiles, rude customer service. I am going to drop a 5 star to bring some balance to the force. Overall, when they are not busy they happily take my amazon returns and its a very pleasant experience. I have used their other services and would agree some of the prices are pretty outrageous. At the same time, rent keeps going up and they have to pay their employees so while a lot of their services are under $20.00 they need to sell A LOT to turn a profit. People complaining about printing a label or tape fees its kind of your bad for not being prepared. Lastly, shop around! read more

I can see why the reviews for this place are so contrasting. I gave three stars because this store is really good at some things and just "wow" really lacking at other things. I've come here to drop off cable boxes and the service I received was friendly,quick, efficient and dare I say, even personal. But today I went in for a passport photo.. It seemed off to a fine start, standing in front of the back drop "look at the camera" and then I kept getting "Umm no, like...just looking into the camera." I drop the toothless smile and dead pan at the camera and "No..you're...it's just straight ahead." I'm genuinely confused at what exactly they're asking me to correct and I say "I'm sorry I'm not sure what you need me to do" they sigh and go "Can you help me? I keep telling her to look at the camera but...." to a coworker. Just rude, and even embarrassing. Low and behold the images the employee already snapped were just fine according to their coworker. I think generally, the store could use a moral boost. Most the staff seem bored and irritated with its customers. Body language like leaning over on counters and smacking gum can really make a negative impact on the customers you are supposed to be welcoming into your store. It's the little things that make an impact. I think that's why so many folks have not had good experiences at this store. Customer service needs an overhaul. The manager is ridiculous! I went in seeing her yelling at the customer before me! Then she yelled at me when processing my Amazon return items. There was little confusion and she refused to recheck the items and started yelling at me, too!! I've read the earlier negative comments and the manager's awful response. If I could give this place no star, I definitely would. Went in to get my citizenship document authenticity attestation paper notarized and the lady who was working saying she cannot do it because she can't validate my ID and passport. I told her I had this paper notarized and there was no issue with getting it notarized. She then said whoever did it can be hold accountable for it. Just how the heck can't she do it? The ID and passport are issued by the government and I also looked on internet and it says those are the acceptable documents. That lady need to learn and take her test again. read more

If I can, I will give no star. Rude to elders, especially to those that speaks English as a second language customers. I eye witness twice already. One that got my attention was when the staff was annoyed by a elder lady try to explain that she gave them 5 packages, but they only scanned four and only four showed up on her return receipt. The staff sends the lady back in the long line to wait again for no reason, then when was her turn, the staff(she) ignore the elder lady and tell her to wait for a manager. Luckily the elder ladies got a hold of someone from her phone and had the person explain the situation through the phone to the UPS staff. UPS staff at this location were just so horrible at helping her. Eventually, after a long back and forth, they rescanned all the items and gave her a correct drop off receipt. ​The service was great, however a customer came into the store after cutting in front of 3 customers waiting outside and was very rude to the employees after being told by customers and an employee inside to please wait outside, he then proceeded to tell all the customers waiting outside to come inside, the sgn on the door clearly said "5 customers in the store at a time", I clearly understood why, there were a lot of customers already in the store and I preferred to wait as did other customers. Some didn't want to go inside until he left. I'm proud of my fellow customers because they came to the aid of the employees by letting the customer know he was wrong!! As a business owner, customer service is KEY! So if you don't like your job you shouldn't work there. That negative energy resonates and latches on to people. I was just at this location and the lady was completely ignoring me while I was right in her face. Didn't even get a hello because she was so busy talking to her co-worker about a movie on hbo. Then my packages weren't for ups. I don't do a lot of returns so I had no clue. So I asked if she knew of any close by to help. She just muttered "mmmmnmm" so I took my stuff and left. It's disgusting being in a business and not even having customer service anymore. I needed a simple document notarized and got in line at the UPS store. When it was my turn, Rita (the notary) told me to go wait by another table. Rita then proceeded to help 4 other customers who were in line after me while I just stood there waiting. What was the point of my being in line if Rita was going to make me wait while she served other people who were after me in line? Did she not understand that people wait in line and should be served in that order? Very poor customer service. Next time, go elsewhere. read more

This UPS does get packed if you come at the rush hour times: Usually during lunch time and right before they are about to close. This seems to be my "Go-To" spot when I need to send packages out or mail anything. The prices of the packages are somewhat expensive to mail out but if you have a prepaid label it seems to make everything SO much better. I had a great experience when coming to this facility and speaking to Jenee the sales Associate at the store. She was really welcoming and explained to me what I would need to do to send my items off and make sure it gets there on time. She gave me a reason to want to come back and keep dealing with this location I would definitely come back to this location because of fantastic and fast service that was presented to me! I needed to have a document printed and faxed, all the staff was great!!! Amazing customer service, one stop shopping, left happy!! Unfortunately I witnessed a customer being rude to the staff, the customer didn't follow the Amazon instruction and took out her anger on the staff. The staff's response was great!!! No stars deserved. This store has the worst customer service. I 've experienced several times too many, tried to give this store a chance. Arrived today to drop off packages. The greeting I got from some blonde woman wasn't a hello welcome to our store. It was in a unfriendly tone, "Uh...we aren't accepting any larger packages!" I was like what do you mean? We don't have any room to store your package." I said i drove all the way over here. Her attitude was like oh well and she stated not my fault, ups truck didn't snow up, we have over 300 packages waiting to be picked up." I said, that's not my fault either. I promised to file a complaint. This employee could have had a sign up indicating this on the store window. So people don't stand outside waiting to come in. A few days ago my partner went to this store and waited for 10 minutes for her fax to go through. It went through right away, the store didn't tell her because the customer service person walked away from the fax. There was more then just these experiences. No good or bad review , but I've seen first hand the amount of business they revieve .heck there line sometime covers the entry way of my job. A lot of times we don't realize as customers we have to do our part .It's always helpful to be ready before you actually make it to the counters, follow all instructions before you have to come face to face with one of the workers ( I'm sure that will cut time down & keep you and the workers happy) we as customers have to make it easy for those to come to work and service us ... we need them just as much as they need us .
