I will start with a summary: poor customer service, rude, unhelpful, dishonest, and incompetent.... and toll road. Ok, so my experience;
I try to avoid UPS at all cost because they have the most terrible service. Ever since I moved to the area supported by the chula vista center (even though im 30 miles away in san diego), I have learned to avoid UPS even more. When I just moved, my cable company sent my startup package using UPS. I work during the daytime so after a failed delivery I took my slip and decided to pick it up myself. Long story short, I wasted 1+ hour of my life, $10 toll road, $10 gas. Vowed never to use UPS again, but unfortunately you dont always get what you want.
So fast forward a few months... I ordered a monitor from a major online retaler that only uses UPS. I was off work that week and needed it fast so I paid for the 3 day select so that I would get it before the weekend. Friday rolls around and their website says its on a truck for delivery, will arrive 7am-7pm... big window but oh well, I had stuff to do at home anyway. I wait patiently all day... around 7, still no package, go online check status, it says its on the truck for delivery. I call UPS at 7:30 to check on the status, the lady tells me that sometimes they run late, just wait it out...assures me I will receive it. Hang up the phone and go online... it says "failed delivery attempt at 7:43, recipient was not present". Im fuming now, not only was I present, I was on the phone with UPS being assured I would receive the package?!?! I start thinking maybe I missed something, I open the door, look for a ticket, search for any indication that I missed UPS, even ask my neighbor... nope, he never came. He probably didnt want to finish his route so he marked me absent like it was 2nd grade role call. I call UPS back to complain... I had paid extra to have it delivered that week because I knew I would not have another chance to be home and I was unwilling to drive the 60 miles and $20 in gas/toll roundtrip to pick it up. 2 hours (mostly on hold), 2 agents, and 1 supervisor later they tell me basically that I have to wait till monday for a local supervisor to call me because saturday they only do special expensive deliveries (yes I tried to get them to deliver it on saturday to no avail) and no supervisor is there till monday. They tell me they will hold the package and have a supervisor call me to discuss my options for getting it... the phone supervisor assured me they would correct their mistake.
So over the weekend I get a message from the local supervisor saying that she will call me on monday after 10:30 am to tell me when exactly they would deliver the package so i can wait for them (?!? um, no I dont want to wait again! but whatever call me back so i can complain at least). She stressed the fact that I should not try to call before 10:30am several times in the message (even though she didnt leave her number so I couldnt call anyway). So monday rolls around and 10:30 still no message... I go online and it says "failed delivery attempt at 9:30am, tomorrow will be the final attempt before package is returned to sender". Im now even more furious. I call UPS support to get the local supervisors phone numbr and after an hour get to a supervisor who tells me again he can leave a message for the local supervisor to call me (she still hadnt called me now at 11:30). He also gave me her number. I hang up and try to call but the number does not work, it rings but nobody picks up for 10 minutes so i hang up. suring this time im trying to call her, I miss her call and she leaves a message again "sorry you missed your delivery this morning, it will be redelivered tomorrow, have a good day" thats it, no number or anything. So after a few more fruitless hours I get a hold of her. She asks how she can help and I explain what happened and why Im upset. She is very blunt and unfriendly, not helpful, and seems annoyed by me more than anything. She tells me where the UPS truck is and asks me to go hunt him down and ask for my package. As crazy and stupid as it sounds, I did it... unsuccessfully and gave up.
defeated, I return to work, tired, hungry, and in the worst of moods. I give up, I surrender, you win UPS. I dont bother calling back, i nap through my meetings to save up some strength for the next call. then I get a notification from UPS... "your package has been delivered at 2PM". What? can it be so? But to whom? I was not even home? Well when I get off work, I get home to find a box in front of my door, a big box that reads 24" LED higih definition display. At first I am excited, then i realize that they left my package in front of my door like nobody would be enticed to steal a brand new monitor in its manufacturers box. I was pissed but relieved to have my monitor. I should get a refund for my shipping costs considering it was so late and all the work I had to do... but my time is invaluable compared to the stress of UPS! read more
