Parking near the UPS Store is pretty silly since the design of the lot makes the area in front of the store a bottleneck of angry drivers and pedestrians. Also, the UPS trucks take up a lot of space when they are there. It is usually not a problem, because there is a guy who works there who always offers to help me carry my packages to my car. I am a big internet shopper. It is mostly because I hate people so the idea of having to interact with sales associates makes me cringe, but my stuff does not last forever, so I have to occasionally replace it. I have had a box here for years. My only poo-poo on this place is that it seems like the cost of a box goes up by a billion percent each year I renew. They gave me an electronic key so I can get to my box any time of day or night through the entrance that faces the El Cerrito Plaza BART station. That does not help me because I can only get my packages during open hours, but it is a nice gesture. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that they send me an email when I have a package to pick up. That is so HUGE! I can also call in if I do not want to give them my email, but they have not spammed me yet. They have done well with passport/immigration photos. They keep the store fairly clean for all the packages that go in and out of there. Some of the staff act like they are too cool for school (read: not approachable). Lately their customer service has slipped. It's like the people who work there REALLY do not want to be there and really don't care if you're happy. Their hours are workable provided you plan your trips there to make it before they close their doors. Once, I had some Tiffany jewelry stolen out of the box it was shipped in. I have gone to this UPS location a handful of times now. There is usually no parking out front but plenty in the rest of the lot. The staff has always been really friendly and helpful there has been times when my package was delivered to sprint for some reason instead of this UPS location and they were helpful in helping me find it. I have shipped out things before and they have been really helpful in making sure that I make sure I know how to track things and provide me with receipts. I have recommended this location to my parents as well and they have enjoyed the service also. I highly recommend this location. read more

These folks have been taking care of me, or at least handling my shipping, collection, and mail/forwarding needs, for going on 5yrs. Ace staff. Management can be nickel & dime-y, but you've gotta make a profit somewhere so it might as well be on twine & tape. My review is prompted by the donation bin, collecting coats for those that needs 'em this very cold winter. Its 3/4 full, and about to overflow once I work my way through this here closet. I don't see any signs or other PR, but can see how the attitudes of the neighborly and alert staff might promote giving, in their regulars. Worth your shipping dollar. Don't come here they will lose your package and not do anything about it. No refund. They are independent from UPS and charge whatever they want to charge and when they lose your items they will tell you they are not responsible and when you call the REAL UPS they will tell you they don't cover lost packages from these Stores. Stephanie, the manager of this UPS store, is AWESOME!!! She went the extra mile for me when UPS messed up a Christmas delivery. In business, I value much more the person who will fix a problem than one who doesn't care. So this store has my vote and my loyalty.... One thing you have to know -- it will save alot of trouble later -- Every UPS store is independently owned and operated, UPS does NOT own any "Ups Store"... I never knew that before! They've been purchased by a new owner a few years ago and, at first, it was a bit rough because the previous owner and employees were so familiar, friendly and professional. They've gotten back up to speed on most occasions, although they can be a bit rushed and the manager doesn't always treat the other employees very well. All in all, it's still where I go to get my packages boxed up and sent. They never have stamps for sale. read more

Their notary, John C Valdez is a kid that wears his pants far below his butt cheeks and as he was shredding documents he was bending over and there were seven or eight people standing there all making fun of him showing us all his behind. COMPLETELY unacceptable. Pants worn down around the thighs is a prison sign that you are looking to take it up the wazoo and completely unacceptable in a professional work environment. This store is part of my community and I always shop at the EC Plaza. Usually when I come to this store,I receive good service. Today, wasn't a good experience. The person who helped me (Stephanie) was short with me and didn't listen to my question. She ended up giving me incorrect information, which I later learned when I got to the register. I had to repackaged my order over again, if she would have listened to my question initially before cutting me off. It was a very uncomfortable and awkward exchange. Went to the UPS store this morning to drop off an Amazon return item. I ran out of packing tape and foolishly thought..."the UPS store will be able to spare 2 strips of tape" for the box. When I got there and asked for some tape, they said that they would need to charge me $2. Seriously, I only needed two strips of packing tape for a small 6"x6"x6" box. The cost of the tape would've been no more than 10 cents if that. But UPS being a part of corporate America has decided customer service is less important than nickel and diming people for a buck. These days, it's really not nickel and diming anymore. It's more like 2 dollar and 25 dollaring you (think airline baggage fees). The UPS Store's selling point for the $2 is that they'll give you the rest of the roll of tape. Basically, forcing you to buy tape from them. I declined and decided to go get some tape at Home Depot since I needed more tape anyway, and I didn't want to succumb to Corporate America's tricks in trying to get people to give them more money. This part of the review is obviously about the whole corporation and not specific to this store. Here's the part specific to this store. When I returned after having taped up the box, there were three employees there. One was helping another customer, a second saw me coming in but was scuffling around in the back, and the third was standing at the counter in front of me texting on his cell phone. Although it didn't take long for the first employee to finish the customer that he was helping and then proceeded to help me, it was clear that customer service isn't the priority for most of the employees at this store. The employee texting on the phone never stopped texting the entire time that I was there. The employee in the back saw that I needed help but declined to either come out and help me or tell the texting guy to help me. Bad customer service and corporate America nickel and dimming people isn't news in today's world. But should we really settle for this? read more

This is a great place to drop off your UPS package...they have a spot just as you walk in. Just make sure you ask an employee to take it to place behind the counter. On this particular day, a nice young lady pleasantly greeted me and accepted my package. Perhaps they changed their staff...worth another try. read more

What a difference. This UPS is now pleasant to be in! A couple of years ago I came down hard on this store in EC plaza. I've been in a couple of times since March and I noticed the clerks were friendlier, but waited to see the staying power of this attitude. At some point they hired a new supervisor (or two). Friday was my first time to see the blonde-headed woman, long pony tail, in operation: training new employees, relating to customers. She was patient, easy-going, light hearted (and knowledgeable without acting superior). This attitude has been desperately needed. Before it seemed that everyone in this UPS store was chronically depressed. (Where are they now? I hope they've done a lot of therapy & are now more content....and employed, but elsewhere.) I've been going to the UPS in Albany, but now I'll come back home to this location. Hooray! (I retain one star because so far my needs have been simple; what will happen if a package is lost? one reviewer didn't have a good experience in this regard...so I'll see how all holds up by this time next year.) PS: FED-Ex, near Peets? OMGoodness-- yep they're sorta friendly, but stressed & lines are long. (Please hire more employees) Last month I went in to use the phone (my cell went dead) I needed to call my son, who'd headed to the wrong Wells Fargo bank for a meeting with the notary in WF across the street (forget getting use of a phone in that Wells Fargo). Neither of the two FED Ex guys behind the counter would help me. They seem threatened by my request. Goodness?! But, as I was walking away, a family of delightful Aussies, waiting in line, called after me, twice-- I thought they were calling someone else. Then the father came over & handed me his super expensive iphone to make my call. Afraid I'd drop it, for I was upset, I asked him to dial son's # for me. **DO NOT GO THERE FOR SELF SERVICE COPIES!!** Very disappointing that a company of this stature and reputation is utilizing a "3rd party" self service rip-off copy machine that requires a $3.00 minimum to use...A notice "appears like" a Credit Card Pre-authorization which is normally found in reputable copy shops. Instead of a pre-authorization, there is a flat charge! BEWARE! It is NOT A CREDIT CARD PRE-AUTHORIZATION that is found at copy stations nationwide. Instead UPS employs a RIP-OFF MINIMUM CHARGE SCAM you'd expect to find at a fly-by-night copy spot, not at a world recognized brand. What a shame! Essentially 2 b/w copies cost $3.84 ($3.00 scam min). Management's canned response was, "There are 2 disclosures stating the minimum and this is a 3rd party service. We can do nothing about it." Poor answer! Even bigger, what a poor decision to offer this "3rd party" scam at your business! DO NOT USE SELF-SERVICE COPY. Go to the competitor across the street. I wish I can rate this with zero star. The notary guy Alejandro Azurdia do not know what his doing. He basically wasted our time by telling us that he cannot notarized our papers simply because we are missing a wording that he can simply add it on additional paper or stamp it, just like what the other notary public did. I called my attorney and to verified it and my attorney told me that he was wrong. This guy is clueless, incompetent to be a notary public. We went to another notary public and we have no problem at all. So avoid this power tripping, loser and don't even waste your time. read more

When you close your mailbox with the UPS Store in El Cerrito, THEY WILL NOT FORWARD YOUR MAIL!!! They told me that they are not obligated to forward my mail and they just return all mail to senders. What a PUNITIVE policy for closing your mailbox after having rented it there for years. In the first place, they instigated this move because they themselves are moving to a smaller place to save on rent. As everyone is having to be inconvenienced by changing addresses regardless, I also decided to save money on rent by changing to a US Postal box. This saved me $277.00 per year. UPS Store wanted to charge me $384 and I rented a US Postal box for $107.00. SHAME on the UPS Store in El Cerrito for being so spiteful and vindictive when I decided to stop renting a mailbox with them! Shame, Shame, Shame! read more

I didn't want to be dramatic and give only one star but I truly couldn't find any reason to give more. They were so slow and the parking lot was crazy at 1 on a weekday. They advertise that you can pay $2 and they'll tape up a box you have a prepaid slip for but, after waiting for 15 minutes in line, they wouldn't tape mine. I had two boxes and one slip from Amazon (Amazon told me to just secure the boxes together) and they just refused. I was stunned and frustrated. I've had such wonderful experiences at the UPS store on Shattuck in Downtown Berkeley so I guess I'll just go back to that one. read more

Came in to make a single copy from an electronic file. She said the computer was broken. I could email it to her and she could print it. I said that would be fine. She said I would still have to pay for 15 minutes of computer use even though the computer was broken and I did not use it. I asked why would I pay for 15 minutes of computer use if I could not even use it because it was broken. She said because she "still has to do all the work." The work she was talking about involved opening an email and hitting print. It took about 30 seconds. I was in a hurry and I did not have time to go elsewhere. This kind of poor customer service is just sad. On the positive side the one copy she made for me was good. read more

Yikes. I wouldn't recommend dropping off prepaid return packages (like Zappos) here. With little prompting, the staff had a lot to say about the limits of their responsibility for drop-offs. Customer service is HORRIBLE. I called in for help after dropping off packages and got a man who didn't listen long enough to answer the question I was asking. 5 minutes later, he finally understood my issue, but still lectured me on why it wasn't his fault. I called back and the manager, Stephanie, launched into a lecture about how nothing was the store's fault. She barked defensive explanations as I tried to ask questions--I never got a word in edgewise. I'm pretty sure she hung up on me. The funny thing was, I wasn't even trying to blame the store. This store is great. Sure they get busy and have high rushes during lunch and afterwork, but the staff are excellent at handling the high flow volume. I repeatedly came in for notarizations and shipping and was always greeted with expertise and efficiency by Leona. I understand that most people come in with demands and time frames and it is hard to maintain a positive attitude when the customers are aggressive and in a rush. In the face of all of this I found Leona to remain calm, cool, and collected and gracefully assist me. I consider this UPS store my go to shipping place. read more

I waited until 8:50am (meanwhile, 3 sets of people wanting UPS service had already come and gone, annoyed) and finally just had to leave. I would like to start by saying I would rank them negative stars if I could. I have done business with this particular UPS store for about a year. I go in only for work related needs and my company has an account with this store. Since my first encounter, the employees have been so disinterested in their jobs like the many other customers have said and are annoyed to have to actually do any tasks no matter how small. They consistently give me wrong quotes/information every time I call or come in to the store. Their incompetence could be overlooked if they were customer friendly. The manager, Stephanie, is also very curt and unfriendly as well. She personally has given me wrong information and in lieu of saying "Oh I'm sorry about that" she somehow tries to make it my fault (even if it was, which it was not) that is unprofessional and unacceptable). I finally decided to write a review after I called today and asked how much it would be to make a nameplates, a service my company has done with them in the past. The employee less than enthusiastically blurted out "$45-75 dollars!" When I informed him that that had to be incorrect and that I was perhaps unclear but that I would like a quote for small nameplates, his response was quick and curt, "Yeah $45-75.00 dollars." I then mentioned that the plates we ordered last time were somewhere under $20.00 he did not even take take time to check out how much they run, as he obviously did not know, he just said "Oh those...They're $20.00 to $30.00" Of course I checked on my end with are old invoice and they were only $16.00 in May of last year! This type of customer support and business etiquette should not be supported! Needless to say, my company will not be doing business there any more. On a side note: The last owner was great according to my company and was always friendly and helpful, which is why we have stayed with them for the additional time when the new owner/manager took over, but the incompetence, rudeness, and lack of business etiquette has finally caused us to take our business elsewhere. read more
