Mind you, it's a good half an hour before they close, not like I was coming in as they were locking the doors. I just needed them to scan something and drop it off. Before the entry to the station, my stuff was checked by a couple of cops and a dog. Once cleared for entrance, we went in and Dolly folks dropped off my boxes on Amtrak's curbside while I went to talk to the officer in charge. David Arguiano has been utmost wonderful. He weighed my boxes which came to $225.25 for 283 pounds, Chicago to Newark, NJ. When I said that I don't have a place yet in NJ, David gave my shipping date one week ahead so I don't have to pay for extra days my stuff lies at NJ station. I walked out of the station with a receipt and I spent around 30-40 minutes. This has been a wonderful experience and I hope more people use it instead of UPS and FedEx.

I shipped two (2) 32x24x24 boxes from Chicago Union Station to Seattle King Street station for $65. They arrived without a scratch three days later. WHAT?!? It blew my mind. (Note - the weight of both the boxes combined was under 50 lbs, so it absolutely would have cost more had they weighed more. We shipped a children's wooden rocking chair and rocking horse, so they weren't very heavy.) I thought I'd have to bring a dolly and drag the boxes from the sidewalk through the main entrance - DO NOT DO THAT. DRIVE THROUGH THE HUGE ARCHED ENTRANCE ON THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF CLINTON AND JACKSON. You'll have to stop at the little security booth and they call a security guard with a dog to sniff your car and boxes. We waited around 20 mins for the security guard to arrive, but the inspection itself was quick. Then they'll lower the barriers and you keep driving into the bowels of Union Station until you come up to a huge garage door. It's weight sensored and will open once you get close enough. (Be sure to follow the directions the people in the security booth give you - there are ZERO signs down there and it's not intuitive. I was convinced we were in the wrong spot, but then we unknowingly triggered the door sensor and boom we were there.) You'll feel like you aren't supposed to be there, but park and go up the stairs and to the right there's a little desk area where someone will help you get your boxes out and weigh them. (There wasn't anyone at the desk when we first got there, we waited around for a few mins thinking again that we were in the wrong place, but then the person showed up.) Once they weigh your boxes they'll talk you up the elevator to the check-in desk in the main lobby. They'll calculate your total and you'll pay there. Then you go back down the elevator with the person who weighed your boxes and you're done! This whole process probably took an hour. So it wasn't exactly quick, but for the price it was unbeatable. Our guy said they should arrive within 3 days and he was exactly right. Three days later my sister got a call from Amtrak's Seattle King Street station letting her know the boxes has arrived (we gave them her info at the check-in desk when we paid). My sister said the pick-up process was a breeze and nothing was damaged. My sister and I both can't stop recommending this to anyone and everyone who will listen. I still can't believe it cost $65 to send two big items across the country and they arrived in three days. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Some notes: the boxes can't be bigger than 3'x3'x3' and each box cannot weigh more than 50 lbs. You can only ship 500 total lbs in one day.
