I can't remove the one star I give this place. I have never had an experience like this with UPS. The guy mike not sure if he is the owner but he is the most unprofessional person I have met in a long time. My package was supposed to be delivered to me in oxnard a city about 1:40 minutes from this ups store. Somehow it didn't get delivered correctly it ended up in another address and eventually got returned to sender( witch is this ups store) I called to see what happened he didn't take any responsibility for anything not even was sorry about it I called UPS HQ and they didn't want to pay for my shipping back out. So I asked to hold it for me till this morning. I drove 1:40 minutes to pick it up so the same confusion won't happened again and because I refuse to pay for shipping again. I get here at 9 time of opening. Store wasn't ready till about 10 minutes after 9. That is not a big deal but it gives you an idea of what's happening. The person in front of me had a complain and was furious she stated, her package was never delivered and was still at the ups store she got a refund and took it to FedEx. (Those where her words) it's just all bad news, I would recommend not using this ups store. I get it business mess up but not taking the blame for their mistakes or helping out a customer to full extent of customer service makes for an unpleasant experiences. They would not provide UPS standard shipping envelopes (the ones where you can put in labels) and instead try to hawk the overpriced shipping supplies. NO SELF RESPECTING PERSON SHOULD GIVE THIS STORE YOUR BUSINESS AND HARD EARNED MONEY. Negative stars. I don't write reviews really, but this place is so beyond worthy of my time and energy it will take to complete this. I absolutely thought it was just me. But then I look and see out of about 50 reviews over the course of 2 years, 40 have encountered the customer service nightmare known as Michael Williams. To be clear on how UPS Stores work guys, they are not owned or operated by UPS. (A wonderful company that I love). They are franchises. So Michael Williams is not an employee, there is no store manager per se, he is the OWNER. And a pisspoor one at that. I discovered this place a few months back and was happy it was so close. The other UPS on Venice does not offer account forms so pretty much this is my only option. Yes, I've encountered the "tape-gate" and the seemingly incessant rules about where you can't stand, where you can't put your box, where you can't fill out your form, etc etc. But 2 days ago, I decided enough is enough. I had about 10 large boxes I needed to ship out. I unloaded my car, politely requested my labels as I always do, and began filling them out. I was doing this in a rush because I noticed Michael was not in the store. But within 10 minutes, that changed. I hear a voice that doesn't greet or pay any mind to the fact that I am trying to give him business. He stands in the doorway, begins KICKING my boxes out of the way telling me that they can't be all over the place (which they weren't - they were stacked in the designated area for filling out forms and packing boxes). I don't engage him. It's his place, his rules. Whatever. I move them per his directions and return to my labels. As I start to apply them to my box and breakdown and discard the one empty box in the receptacle labeled "TRASH" he tells me it can't go in there. Ok fine. Apparently, I have a look on my face at this point because he then begins to berate me with comments like "I guess you don't know what it takes to run a business with that look on your face!" "You can take your trash with you!" And proceeds to whisper other insults under his breath to his female employee. At this point. I stop everything and I begin to reload my car. There is no way this guy is getting my business, or even touching my belongings/boxes. He was completely unhelpful, aggressive, rude, and a jerk. As I pack my car, HE FOLLOWS ME OUTSIDE and insists that since I'm not shipping with him I return all the labels. *are you serious* They are filled out. What could he possibly do with them. It was just another jerk move from the infamous Michael. All in all, not the worst thing to ever happen to humanity, I just simply won't return. But this is TERRIBLE business. Last I checked Michael, you are not the POTUS. This is a UPS Store. Yes, it's YOUR store and you can run it however you see fit, but YOU DO need customers to stay in business. Customers, that you repeatedly treat like dogs. You have lost at least 40 customers per yelp and who knows how many more. We don't loose sleep over it because at the end of the day there are many shipping options for us and this is not our livelihood.....like it is yours. And as for you 10 or so yelpers who seem to chime in on your great experience and in defense of this guy and his crap business practices, that's wonderful, but if out of 50 reviews, 40 are GOD AWFUL and 90% are about the same person, the law of averages is not working in your favor. WOW! ...I was just verbally assaulted by the owner/manager of this location. I am appalled at the treatment I just received! I went in to ship a package and was the ONLY one in the store. The manager saw me walk in and asked me to package up my shipment in a certain area of the store. I gladly obliged. 5 minutes later he comes over to me and in an overly aggressive tone says, 'You think this is your store? Move your stuff to one side. People need to get to their mail boxes.' Now I'd completely understand if A) someone else was in the store trying to get to their mailbox or B) I WAS ACTUALLY BLOCKING A MAILBOX! I was standing exactly where he told me to. DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE! EVER! I'm in total shock! I'm 5 months pregnant and yesterday I went to this store to drop off two small packages to be returned to Amazon. When I requested to please have my packages taped, the infamous Michael started throwing a fit, saying I should buy the tape. When I asked what was the problem about a few pieces of tape, he said there was no problem about it, but tape costs money, he kept asking me why I didn't have tape at home, that I should buy tape. I have been a customer for over 2 years and overall the service has been okay, but today I was treated like a total stranger and my concerns dismissed as unimportant. I am a veterinarian and rely on packages being available to be picked up at the time indicated on the store hours. I entered the store at 4:59 pm and got to the counter at 5:00 at which time I was told I could not pick up my package because the system was already shut down. Unbelievable! I really resent that I was refused an important package which contains fluids I need for patients under my care. Now I have to wait until Monday, which is an inconvenience to me and my patients. Why be so strict about the closing time? I would have been there sooner if I didn't have to tend to patients needing my care. What an utter disappointment. I found this place to have the WORST customer service I have ever encountered. The person who was in charge of it was very RUDE. Scenario: I came in to drop off a prepaid package. The person who was there told me to put it against a wall that was pretty much isolated from all the other packages. I asked him if it was safe and he said "yes." And my response was "Oh, okay." And I leave with a friendly light laugh. As I was walking towards the door, he mimics my laugh to make fun of me. I go back to tell him he was rude and shouldn't be doing that. His response was that I was rude of asking him if it was safe to leave the package there. Then I requested to see the manager so I can file a complaint, which he avoided the question and said that "somebody had a bad weekend". I kept on asking and he still avoided the question. I asked for his name as well and he didn't want to give me it. He just continues pretending to do his work. I saw a couple of business card and found that his name is MICHAEL P. WILLIAMS, which I found later that he was the OWNER of the store. His behavior was very unacceptable. So I just left with my package and took it elsewhere since it was going nowhere. As I was leaving, on the outside of the store it has a banner up saying "New and Improve Customer Service". What a bull**** advertisement. In all, I just filed a complaint with the UPS company since you can't do much about it. Pretty much this will go on their permanent record. Never again, fellow Yelpers. Never again. We stopped by here to ship two boxes up to our home in the Seattle area. These boxes came from the trunk of our car and were somehow forgotten about in the process of our move, so they were full to the brim but not taped up. We walked in, expecting to get some help taping and shipping, but I should have known better from the moment we stepped foot in the door. The store itself was a far cry from the UPS Store in MdR that I normally frequent, and has my PO box. But, I am a UPS devotee, and looks are not always everything. The girl behind the counter reluctantly came out of the back room to help us. We were polite and friendly; she obviously seemed to hate her job and had no desire to be friendly in return. First off, we asked if she could tape up our boxes for us. They were heavy (about 25 lbs apiece) and would have needed a few go-rounds with the tape to really secure. She placed one strip of tape over the top and then proceeded to grab a tape measure to see how large the boxes were. My boyfriend asked if he could add more tape to the boxes himself, and she pulled the tape gun away off the counter, away from us, telling us that we weren't allowed to tape our own boxes and could buy tape ourselves if we wanted to do so - as if we were CRIMINALS. He then told her that the boxes were heavy and really needed more tape, so she ignored us until she was done measuring the box, then grabbed the tape gun and added another piece of tape on top. Really? Mind you, the two boxes were identical in size and appearance. They were the small moving boxes from Box City over on Washington. She then proceeded to measure the second box as slowly and as carefully as she measured the first one, again ignoring our questions on pricing until she was done. No acknowledgment, just silence until SHE was ready to talk to US. I gave my boyfriend a look. We paid for our packages and left the store. I started to panic a bit. Sure, the packages didn't contain anything terribly important, just leftover odds and ends from our move, but, we still were willing to pay $53 to ship them up to our new place. We drove away, and it was then that I looked at Yelp and saw all of the other awful reviews here. I told my boyfriend to turn the car around, and that we should retrieve our packages and ship them out of the MdR store instead, where I know all of the employees very well. He agreed, so back we went. When we got there, our two packages were just sitting by the front door. And there was nobody standing at the counter once again. Anyone could have easily walked in and taken those boxes unnoticed. My boyfriend went up to the counter, got the attention of the girl who was in back, and told her he had changed his mind and wanted to take our packages back. She told him he couldn't do that and that she would have to call her manager to have him address it. (It was Saturday, and the manager wasn't at the store that day, of course, and he wouldn't be back until Monday.) Why would we not be able to take back our own packages? Frustrated, my boyfriend grabbed our packages from the front door and put them in our car. The girl at the counter was calling her manager at this point and said we had to come back on Monday if we wanted a refund. We were going to be flying home by Monday, so my boyfriend said he would call and we left. A few minutes after leaving, we got a couple of automated emails showing that our shipment was cancelled. GOOD. To the store's credit, the manager did actually refund us, but a week later. It was the right thing to do and we would have disputed the charge on his credit card had they not. We immediately drove over to the UPS Store on Washington in the marina, shipped our packages easily, they retaped our boxes very well, and we were on our way. This UPS Store location is horrid. Avoid. The manager seems unaware of what customer service means, and does not understand that his business is making mail delivery simpler. Prior to using this UPS store, I was at another in SM for several years. That location, when busy, was curt with customers, but at other times provided efficient service and understood their business. Changing addresses is a royal pain, but this place is impossible to deal with. The manager felt that giving access to a customer's box, even when their was no other customer in the store, and a package was waiting, was beyond the level of service he could provide. As I was placing my items on the counter, the man (in all the photos of the reviews) yelled at me to get back to the line that was drawn presumably 6 feet from the counter... he literally YELLED at me as I was still sorting through the labels/ QR codes for the labels. I told him I was still placing the items on the counter but he kept on yelling at me and that if I don't go back I will not be sending any shipment out at that store. So I went back to the line but told him I still have things that need to be placed on the counter. He yelled at me again to place it on the counter and get back behind the line and told me to "calm down." I told him he is the one that needs to calm down and that's when he picked up all my stuff and placed it on another counter near the door and told me to get out. Unbelievable.
