Very unhelpful customer service. Even though the close at 6 pm, they have told me if I do not arrive by 5:30 they will return my package. I have assured them I plan to arrive before 6 pm but taking public transit from my job- bart to bus makes it incredibly difficult to arrive by precisely 5:30 or earlier. I am glad I called ahead, otherwise I would have no way of knowing that if I arrived at 5:35 pm my package would be gone. They should hold packages for the posted business hours. How is the general public expected to know their driver schedules? read more

This is really a sort of general complaint about UPS, but writing this review here because this store has proved to be incredibly unhelpful to my situation on several occasions. I tried to order a thermal printer from UPS. It's a rentable label printer for folks who don't have a printer. It was taking WAY TOO LONG to deliver in time for my project, so I tried to track the package down. I wasn't given any tracking information for it either, and nobody seemed to know how to help me figure out where it was, and when it would be delivered. NOBODY. UPS makes you sign up for an account to order this printer too, so you'd think that my account would have this information, right? It didn't. In fact navigating their entire website is a major pain, and creates so many questions and causes for concern while using it. For example, I tried to make changes to my account that were never reflected on the website. WHY? I even called and had a UPS employee change something on my account for me, and that was never reflected on the website either. WHY? Sometimes there isn't a way for you to save your changes to your account. ALSO, WHY? I would say a major complaint of mine is that the UPS website is garbage. My UX was terrible. The person who designed this site should be flinged into the sun. I don't really know where or whom to complain about this, so this will be written here. I came to this store on Grand Ave. specifically to ask questions about my account/ the thermal printer I ordered, and the older man behind the counter was dismissive and uninterested in helping me, saying I needed to speak to someone on the phone. Calling UPS resulted in several DAYS of calling, each day being placed on hold repeatedly, and getting transferred 5+ times, which ended up being a total of 6+ hours wasted on the phone over the course of a few days, and still not a one person could help me track this thermal printer down. Finally the printer arrives at the destination, but I've already decided to use USPS at this point because I'm so sick of dealing with UPS' incompetence. I then try to return the thermal printer at this store (someone I spoke to on the phone led me to believe I could do this), and the same guy who told me he couldn't help me before is there again, and he's STILL just completely unhelpful and super dismissive. Seriously, he should reconsider life choices and not be in customer service roles, he's so bad at being helpful. Someone who is helpful would offer solutions, like calling UPS for me (so ridiculous bc I'm literally at UPS), or give me the correct number to call so I can reach the right department for returning the printer (though having spent 6 hours on the phone being transferred dozens of times leads me to believe that no one actually knows the right department to speak to about this). I ended up shipping the printer back to its origin anyway after the friendly blonde lady behind the counter offered to help me. She's this store's saving grace because she saw I was upset and still wanted to help. UPS give this woman a raise. read more

I've decided it would be less stressful to have a potential stalker know my address than to continue to deal with these people. I loathe this place. Awful awful awful. Worst customer service experience ever. This is how they handle my mailbox payment: 1. I ask them to remind me when my box is about to expire so I can pay for it, because I don't always physically pick up my mail unless I've gotten a letter or package. 2. They say they will remind me. 3. They don't. Also, half the time when I call to ask if I've got mail, they tell me they're too busy to check and ask if I'll call back; or they just give me an attitude and an enormous sigh; they don't mention when I call that I've got an overdue box. 4. If I don't check my mail before my box expires, then they rack up a bunch of late renewal fees. 5. Then if I still don't check my mail, because I'm busy, they simply cancel my box without ever calling or telling me, and start sending all my mail back to sender. Not a single courtesy phone call. There is a special circle of hell reserved for the owners of this place. And it will be filled with piles and piles of letters addressed to them that they will be unable to open. Also, the phone will constantly ring. And they'll have to fax blank pages. Don't give these guys your money. Divest from Grand Avenue UPS! Go to a different UPS store--the one in downtown Oakland seems much better. read more

Do not use this store for any service. I went there for Live Scan service. I was helped right after a patron who was complaining and getting the brush off. That should have been enough to scare me off. Then, they took almost two hours to bungle through my livescan. Today I get a notice from the Dept of Real Estate that they made an input error and to return to them and at no charge they are to do it again. Let me repeat, the letter is very clear they are to repeat at no charge. So, I get the brush off as they don't want to pay for it. I am out $76 plus two trips and a lot of aggravation. The guy at the counter basically said too bad, not our problem. This is not how you build a business or maintain a franchise. To you, UPS Store at 360 Grand, my best review is my middle finger! read more

I've been going to this UPS store for 6 years. I do not own a printer and work from home, so I am a regular customer. I also ship packages, get notary services, passport photos, etc. I have never had a negative experience. Araceli's customer service is unmatched - she's friendly and professional with everyone in the store, no matter how busy this store gets. She zooms around, multitasking constantly, so that we can all get the service we need as quickly as possible. She's always seems to do the job of 3 competent people, while making each customer feel appreciated and respected. Hope she gets raises on an a regular basis. read more

After waiting about 10 minutes for the counter clerk to have a very nice conversation with a customer about why she wouldn't be working there after next week, then for about ten other interuptions, they finally let me drop off my extra U-Verse receiver. This is my second one-star review (the other one mysteriously disappeared) for my second terrible experience. Today, I went in tothe UPS Store on Grand to deposit checks into my USAA account using a special UPS service. There was a lady waiting for the only clerk to shred her documents but he couldn't find the key. She, quite understandably, was unwilling to take his word that he would shred them after he found the key and that she could just leave it to him. He did this so that he could move on to help three other customers. Since the lady did not like that idea, he started shoving the items into the big shredding drum in small batches. Papers were flying all over. He stopped after one bag and took the other bag with him behind the counter so he could help me, the next customer. The lady noticed what he did and came over to get her second bag. It looked like she was just going to wait for him to take care of everyone else. When I told the clerk what I needed, he said he didn't know how to do it and started calling someone to help him. I figured it would be much quicker to go to another store (on Franklin Street) since they know how to do it! He agreed with me and looked grateful one of his four customers was going elsewhere. I don't blame the clerk (unless he lost the key to the shredder). I blame the management for not training properly or not putting enough workers into the store. My other one-star review was because I walked 45 minutes one-way to the store to deposit checks only to find it closed. The store hours on the Internet don't seem to be followed because I am not the only one complaining about falsely advertised hours. I cannot believe UPS, the corporation, allows this store to operate under its name. I even called to complain, but the customer service said that there wasn't anything they could do since the stores are independently owned. read more

You really wouldn't think a UPS store could really be that bad, but somehow these people have managed to create the worst experience I could imagine. Story 1: my girlfriend got and paid for a PO Box and was supposed to get a free stamp. She just wanted to get a different address in the stamp than her PO box (why would this matter, we thought? Its a stamp, what do they care that we want a different address on it?!) After 3 months of trying to talk to the manager and them promising that it was almost there, we found out it was never ordered in the first place. We took our P.O. Box elsewhere. Story 2: When I went into the store I wanted to mail a box. They said I had to pay for the tape. I thought it was ridiculous to be charged $3 for tape. Nonetheless I was in a hurry so I said okay whatever. Then the idiot guy working there takes the box and goes over and fills it to the top with packing peanuts. He then comes over and stands there looking at the box and the object I wanted to go inside of it trying to figure out how he was going to get it into the box that was filled already with packing peanuts. If I wasn't trying to leave I would have thought it hilarious. In short avoid this place. I can only hope you would read a yelp review before going to this store. read more

I had an issue with a product and a legitimate return (item was not used, I had a receipt, and I paid in cash). Anyway, my problem was escalated to the store manager who personally called me and resolved it to my satisfaction. Retail is hard and I get why policies are necessary because of all the shenanigans people try to pull, but I can appreciate a business owner that is calm and rational and willing to do the right thing. I haven't written a Yelp review in a long time but had to come out of retirement for these... I could write pages about my experience yesterday but suffice it to say that I left this store shaking in rage, no package sent (and after 20 minutes of circling looking for a parking space and hauling my unwieldy but precious package under my arm for blocks), whereas 35 minutes later (including driving time) I walked out of the FedEx shipping center in Emeryville with a huge smile on my face (seriously, what lovely people), package safely wrapped and shipped, and *glad* to have spent additional money to not be treated like an animal in the process (by the short older man who appears to run the Oakland place). The two experiences could not have been more different. If you have a delicate and expensive package that you care deeply about that needs to be wrapped and don't want to be ripped off in the process (and YES, FedEx was $10 *cheaper* to wrap, although I'm guessing more expensive to ship)... save yourself stress, trouble and *rage* and don't go here. Even if you need to catch a ride, hitch, take the bus, whatever. How much are the moments of your life worth? I personally value every minute of mine... I hate to flame a business with broad strokes, but the woman who works here stood by on mute during my ordeal. I have to exempt the young, male assistant who was very sweet and tried his best to overcome the douchery taking place in the rest of the store. You've been warned. Don't do it. I don't think I'll even be able to walk by this store anymore without first crossing the street... Good luck. read more

Had a UPS package sent to this UPS Store so I could pick it up rather than have it sit in the rain at my house... then when I picked it up they charged me $10! I had no way of knowing until I came to get the box. Prime example of extortion. Next time I'll just tell them to return the package. This store is awesome. UPS the corporation, to be clear, is the WORST. I sent an extremely time-sensitive document by next-day air on Thursday, and it has STILL not arrived. Everyone I talk to at UPS corporate HQ acts like this is no big deal, and there's nothing that they can do to help me. They sound like the hear from unhappy customers all the time, and are totally used to it, which is a bad sign. Grrrr. The Grand Avenue store, on the other hand, was REALLY nice about the mixup. Araceli spent hours and hours on the phone trying to arrange special Saturday delivery for me. She spent so much time helping me out that she now knows my hone number by heart. She even stayed past closing on Saturday to work on my case. And even though there was nothing the Grand Ave store could do about my package, Araceli at least refunded my money without even being asked. Try another UPS store. This particular location charges $1 for color printed copies! Yes, $1 per printed color page. I tried another UPS store and it was half the cost. Also, there is a minimum charge of $3 when using their computer, even if you are printing a UPS label to ship at this location. Save yourself some $ and try another UPS store. 2 stars because the woman manager working there has always been nice. The owners of this chain should evaluate their policies. read more

It was with reluctance that I made the decision to walk into the UPS Store on Grand Ave. . . . After reading all the reviews, I was ready for the worst. Under my arm, I carried an open box with a return label. I braced myself for a fight - expecting that at the very least, they would charge me for taping up the package, if not send me home to do it myself. I handed the box and return label to the guy behind the counter, and without so much as a question, he carefully applied the label, closed the flaps and taped it up securely. He then looked up at me expectantly, and I said, "Is that it?" And he said, "Yup," with a smile. I thanked him and left. The whole exchange took less than a minute. I don't usually write Yelp reviews, but because my experience was so contrary to the experiences of others here, I wanted to make sure to mention it. Hopefully it means that the store is paying attention to these complaints and is striving to improve their quality of service. My reason for dropping one star is due to the hours of operation as published on Google Maps AND The UPS Store website for store #1821. They say M-F 9am to 7pm and Saturday 9am to 5pm. . . and though today is Saturday, I was told over the phone that they close at 4. I'm not sure who's to blame for the discrepancy, but it's an issue that I hope someone resolves. All told, my UPS Store experience was effortless and stress free. I am very pleased. read more

I went to get change for the parking meter twice due to the fact I went to the Jong Ga House a few doors down, and didn't know how long I would be there. I had gotten change from the restaurant once already. The guy in the store gave me the change the first time and the second time he was rude saying he can only give change to customers, then telling me to go to the Cheveron next door. If there is a policy like that why did he give me change in the first place? The Old Crow Tattoo & Art Gallery looked empty,so did the Addis Habans Art & Dance Studio that is why I went back to the UPS Store. Don't go there to get change or ship packages. Please answer your phone during business hours -- not great to walk here during my work day only to find out you couldn't accept my packages. Could have been avoided if phone had been picked up once out of the three times I called. Staff also couldn't confirm whether another facility could accept packages either. Sadly, I'm here to write a disappointing review. UPS delivered a package damaged and I needed to return it. It was a 65lb box and the corner was damaged in a way that I couldn't tape it back together so it would be transportable. That's not in my skill set. Instead I bring it to the UPS store thinking they'll help me since their company damaged it. Ha! The middle aged gentleman who seemed overwhelmed by his customer line and training a new employee scoffed that I needed help getting it from the car, was trying to triage the line and get everyone else taken care of, did help me get the package in the door eventually. For that assistance I'm giving him one star. However, he informed me I would have to pay to get it taped. Why, after UPS damaged the box and contents should I pay for a tape job? He said I would pay or he put it back in my car. He said I could call the UPS company number for a refund, which was a BS line to placate me into paying. I thank him for the help getting the package in the door and explain what a unethical policy that is. He says, your package is not my problem. I pay the $10 to just be done. After I leave and call 4 different numbers and speak to 5 different people it's clear that was a $10 mistake. I normally go to the UPS store on Piedmont Ave and that's where I will be going in the future. If this man had taken the time to tell me that the UPS stores are small businesses and separate from the UPS delivery service, therefore not the same company, and that they have to pay for the mistakes of the delivery company, we would've had a much different interaction and I wouldn't be writing this review. But alas, here we are. I hope he decides to treat customers differently in the future. My assumption is that he is the owner or manager, but who knows. What a bad customer service experience that was. I'm disappointed people don't take the time to explain things anymore so that customers can be more understanding. Yes, I know the instructions said to tape it up before returning it, however what is one to do when that's not possible? At least Amazon pays for return shipping and I can afford this mistake. I realize I'm mostly writing this to warn anyone who doesn't know the separate company info and to release the anger I have at being treated poorly. read more

When it arrived in San Diego, the padded envelope I put everything in was all ripped up and only one of the 5 candies was in there. You literally stole candy from a baby. WTF. beware will steal your amazon package! i never make yelp reviews but today i feel like saving someone from the headache im dealing with. i dropped off my package on thursday and called friday to see why my package hasnt been picked up on the expected pick date which was the same day. the associate told me that the amazon packages dont get picked up until the amazon pick box is full, and that my package will be picked up soon. monday rolls around and still my package only says shipping label created. i call and ask whats going on and if i need to pick up my package. another associate tells me that it can take up to 3 weeks to pick up my package. once he said that i opted to pick up my package and take it else where. he puts the phone down and a lady picks up the phone. does not tell me her name does not ask me whats going on but tells me shes worked there for 11yrs and all packages get picked same day. and that they will not be looking for my package , the store is not responsible and i need to contact ups. i contacted ups and they are now under investigation. i caution you to go else read more
