I'm surprised at the ratings because I've had very pleasant experiences here generally, but above average recently. I was there this week to return an item I purchased. The woman was very pleasant. I was in quick need for some documents and was on my way to another notary in the area when I happened on this one. The lady that was the notary was with a customer, and was the only one there,but was very polite and let me know she would help as soon as she finished with the current customer. We only waited about 5 minutes before she was able to help us and she was quick and knowledgeable. I will definitely be going back for the notary services. read more

Up until today, I used to ship from this store all the time. They were friendly, quick, and always happy to throw in some packing peanuts on top of my package and had no problem giving me a strip of tape or two to seal things on up. So this afternoon I go in and there's two workers there who I have never seen before and the guy gives me a few packing peanuts no problem and then says "it's gonna be a $3 fee to tape it up." "What? I've never had to do that here before. I'll tape it myself" Then the woman working there says "Well, they are supposed to charge you. That's the way it is. You can buy some tape if you want." "I HAVE tape." Then I said something about how I go there all the time building good customer relationships and they just stared blankly. And then I said "I'll just take it to the Post Office," and I did just that. They gave me free Priority Mail tape, a whole roll of it. So, UPS Grand Ave., way to lose a customer who has spent THOUSANDS of dollars shipping from your store over the past 2 years. I know it may sound stupid, just a little bit of tape, but it's the little things that count. I will never come back after this experience--it was one of the most unfriendly interactions I have ever had in a retail environment. read more

Really, really bad. Just had a horrible experience in this store (as have many others, apparently). I brought in a duffel bag that needed to be shipped, well aware that it needed to be boxed before it went out. So, they took the bag from me, boxed it up, taped it, and we went through the label creation process. Then they told me that it would be $62. Okay, pricey, but it needed to get there, so fine. Then I swipe my credit card, look at the receipt, and I was just charged $82. I ask why the extra $20 charge. For the box. Yup, a $20 box. Which is then when I'm told "It's the UPS Store, of course things are going to be marked up." Huh. Interesting. You know that this is a ridiculous price, you don't tell me what you're going to charge me, you package everything up, and then decide that it's time to tell me that I bought a $20 cardboard box. Really, really poor business practices. When I asked why I wasn't told the price beforehand, I was told "you're the customer, you should have asked". Um, okay. What ever happened to customer service? So I refuse to sign the receipt, refuse to pay, am told that I can't get a refund, and will have to call my credit card company. Fine. Huh? You mean the same box with the same carrier costs double at the UPS store? Yes. Don't ask me why. I don't know if these guys are pure scam artists or what. I went in to drop off a pre-packaged, pre-labeled box the week before Christmas. It was busy, they took it from my hands, so I thought that was that. I was in a huge hurry so I thought I'd buy stamps while there. When I learned it was an extra 3 bucks above face-value, I had an abrupt exchange with the owner (I later found out) about how expensive that was, told him I couldn't afford it, cancelled the stamp purchase, and walked out kind of pissed. "Regular hours" of operation posted on the web site and the physical sign by the door read 9am-5pm for Saturdays. But, this place is apparantly run quite casually as they had the door locked by about 4:20. The lights were on, the clerk was waiting on someone inside, but apparently he had a hot date and needed to shut the store 40 minutes or more early. If you are going to run a business keep your hours! Lame. The guy did come to the door after I had waited over five minutes to state he was closing (and never mind the store hours of operation). read more

Deceptive. I asked how much printing costs were and they communicated 22 cents/page. When I came back to print they communicated an additional $3 usage for computer access. So my printing of four sheets of paper would now be $3.88 cents.This was my third interaction with them and they may be kind but they're non responsive, expensive and greedy. read more

This was a drop off and I just needed a receipt. Driver was right there and she said that the shipment goes out tomorrow because she scanned it for the next day. That's major BS and challenges logic. I ended up just handing it to the driver for today's delivery. Why can't they be more pro customer? Is that too much to ask? UPS should monitor these reviews. I live right nearby and it is on my way to work so it should be convenient. Wrong. First time I went in I got the "you used the wrong tape" lecture. They taped it up for me again and let me slide on the extra tape surcharge. Gee, thanks. Fast-forward to the holidays. Need to ship something on my way to the office. Door is open, lights are a little dim, but I stroll right in. Some rude, short, stumpy troll says "we're not open, we'll be open in 10 minutes." I look at my watch. 8:58. Guess you open at 9:08. I take the walk down to the mailbox store next to the Lakeshore post officeand ship it with no hassle. Still the holidays, I go in looking for some box to ship wine in. Big mistake. I ask "do you have a box to ship wine in." Some mouth breather just stares at me, glassy-eyed. I ask again. The troll from earlier chimes in that they do, and gets it for me. It 's clearly been used and is kind of beat up. Who cares, it'll work. I am holding it in my hand at the counter while the mouth-breather continues to stare blankly. I consider walking out with it. I do not - my second mistake. Finally the troll rings me up. $16. I say "this is $16, for a box that has clearly been used." I get another vacant stare. I suck it up and pay. My gf asked me to get it and I don't want the hassle from her if I return empty-handed. Bottom line: ditch this place. The mailbox place near the post office is way better. read more

We should be able to give this place zero stars. Believe the reviews you've read here, and read them all. DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE...and if you have a bad experience, report them directly to UPS. They have a history of ripping off customers, overcharging them, marking up their inventory excessively, being rude, dismissive and disrespectful to customers and generally infuriating people. Awful, disorganized, unprofessional. I could go on. The manager Araceli is awful. She and her rep Beal processed my order for shipping and did not disclose that they shipped it via usps instead of UPS which is bizarre. Apparently, when they process things Via USPS no tracking can be provided. No one notified me the day of the transaction. Now here we are 01-31-2019 and the recipient still hasn't received the package. So I call and speak to Araceli the manager. She asked me for the tracking and I read what was on the receipt. After reading back just the first three letter she tells me" I'll stop you right there. This was processed via usps." I said "that doesn't make sense I processed it at your store." She says "Yea we process UPS and USPS" I said ok why wasn't that information disclosed. She replied "there a sign on the door." To be clear there is a postal office 1minute away. Why would I got to their store for postal service? I explained to her that I asked for ground shipping. She admits that the package was processed wrong and plays pass the buck and blames it on her Rep because that's great management. Anywho I later find that the tracking number on the receipt isn't to track my package. Instead it is used for the UPS STORE to track their own transactions. So I was told by the manager that even though Beal process my package wrong there is nothing they can or will do because the owner will not help and not refund my package. She then said "what do you expect me to do? Go to the post office and look through thousands of packages?" WOW. I explained to here that ppl go to a UPS STORE expecting UPS services. read more

If you're coming for passport photos, this place is a waste of time and energy. I don't recommend it. My passport application completed and other necessary papers compiled, my last step in the process before going to the DMV Passport Office was, and still is, keep reading cause it's half the point of the review, having my photos taken. On my way home from work, I stopped in to this UPS Store on Grand Ave. to have my passport photos taken, as they advertise that this is a service within their capacity to provide. Making the staff aware of my need, Anthony, judging by his demeanor some sort of supervisor or lead employee, pleasantly addressed me, agreeing to take my photos. Another friendly staff person, a woman whose name I do not recall, watched as Anthony took and developed the photos as she had not yet been trained in the task. While the photo paper was developing, a few people entered the store, requiring Anthony's attention. The female employee graciously asked to 'ring me up,' to which I agreed upon requesting that she open the photos and show them to me; they were just fine. After swiping my debit card, entering my pin and paying, the female employee asked Anthony for the next step in the process, to which he replied, "You cut them." Following his direction, she did so, cutting photo paper down the middle. Of course I do not work there, but her doing this seemed perfectly reasonable to me. When Anthony saw what she had done, he condescendingly told her that she'd done it incorrectly and would need to take another photo set. Well geez buddy, be more specific if you're going to get all flustered. She and I returned to the photo area and again began the process. Photo taken, Anthony told her that she'd incorrectly performed the tasks to develop it. Next photo taken, this time with Anthony developing it, the photo a second time did not properly come through. So now, we're on our fourth photo, which did not develop, neither did the fifth or sixth, even after the roll of film was replaced. Question: do the coke-bottle eyeglass wearers who've misplaced their glasses always lead the blind around in this store? Answer: apparently so. After the 6th photo did not develop, Anthony told me that there was some kind of problem with the machine. "O," I thought to myself, "Is that! the problem?" I told Anthony that I wanted a refund since I'd already paid. Unnecessarily, Anthony asked me if I'd really paid. I pulled my receipt from my purse and handed it to him, saying nothing. Scrambling, he walked over to one register and then to another picking up their store phone with the seeming intent to call someone, most likely his manager, who I imagine has had Lasik. Without placing a call, he told me that I would have to write down my address and phone number so that a check refund could me mailed to me, cash could not not given. I asked why the amount, $17.35 could not just be put back on my card. He said that could not be done. I asked if it was just that he did not know how to do it. He did not respond. (Sometimes, kids, it makes you seem like less of an arrogant poser to just admit that you do not know how to do something. CRAZY! I know.) I told him that I was not going to give him my address and asked for his supervisor's voicemail number and card. His supervisor has neither a card nor a number with voicemail. Go figure. I took their generic card and wrote down Anthony's name, and requested back my receipt. Anthony reluctantly handed it over and gave a cautionary warning, "Don't lose that." He then requested my phone number and name, which I reluctantly gave to him. He said he would call when he figured out how to refund my money. So about 30 minutes and $20 after entering, I left the store, valuable time and money exchanged for frustration and no goods. When I got home, my husband called and talked to Anthony, who placed him on hold for 6 minutes and 42 seconds while he argued with another customer enraged at Anthony's lack of package wrapping skills. At the 6 minute 42 second mark, Anthony returned to the call with my husband and hung up. My husband redialed, Anthony answered the phone and apologized for hanging up after my husband identified himself. My husband told Anthony it seemed like he was having a lot of problems today. Anthony agreed. My husband told him that was neither here nor there as he wanted his refund. Anthony then admitted that he did not know how to generate a refund and that his manager would have to generate it either Saturday or Monday. Well thanks, buddy. Overall, the staff are friendly until they realize you know they're incapable of doing something. Also, perhaps there really is a problem with the passport photo camera, even though the first photos came out just fine. If that's true, this store has crappy equipment to boot. read more

I've been to several UPS Stores and have had good experiences at all of them but this one on Grand Ave is the exception. The place is cluttered and the service is absolutely terrible. Your existence is barely acknowledged, which, as it turns out, is a good thing because the only thing worse is the service. The people are unfriendly and unhelpful. And if you're dropping off a package, they don't give you a receipt--they claim they're not required to do so. I always get a receipt (without even asking for one) at the Piedmont location and the one on Howard Street in SF even said it's UPS policy that all stores give a receipt. Needless to say, I will never go to this location ever again, which is sad because it's just blocks away from my house. read more

Don't ship from here! Firstly, they are frequently CLOSED during posted business hours. Multiple times, I have shown up here trying to get things done, only to find them closed during the hours their sign says they're open. I might expect this from an indie yarn store, but from a franchised branch of an international shipping company this is sadly surprising. The Story: I sent a small 2 oz package 2nd day air to Chicago. UPS tried to deliver this package *once* and because the person I sent it to wasn't home (at 10am on a workday), UPS gave up trying to deliver it. I paid $40 goddamn dollars, and they tried to deliver it ONCE. They didn't leave it at the door, they didn't call my cell number which was printed on the shipping label, they didn't try any other measures, they just delivered once, gave up, and sent it 1,200 miles back to Oakland. It's like their philosophy is, first don't do your job, ask questions later. They told me they'd throw away the package if I didn't go get it from their same location ASAP. They wouldn't deliver it to me at my house, which would have been a zero marginal cost method of customer apology, but they refused me this luxury as well. So I had to go all the way over back to this branch, they unapologetically would not give me a refund, they wouldn't even admit that it was weird to literally just not do their job, take my money anyway, and then threaten to throw away the package that was high enough priority to send 2nd day air for $40 in the first place. To top it all off, the guy at this location repeated to me, he *repeated* this, "We are not affiliated in any way with UPS," using this as a justification for why it's so unthinkably impossible to get a refund because they didn't do their job. What the f--- are you talking about, you ugly toothed fat b-----d? Your shirt is brown and says "UPS" on it. I know you're franchised out to them and not under their direct management, but don't tell me you're "not affiliated with UPS in any way." Being franchised 100% counts. *I* am not affiliated with the Indian Consulate to the UK. You, by contrast, *are* affiliated with UPS, by virtue of being franchised, your shirt, and the fact that your paychecks say the acronym "UPS" on them. Without UPS, this store would serve no function and would cease to exist. Don't tell me you're wearing a red shirt when I can clearly see that you're wearing a brown one. This insults everyone's intelligence. This is just like walking in to McDonald's, you order a meal, and when you go sit down to open the bag, there's nothing inside. You walk back up to the counter to ask what happened, and they tell you "We tried to put food in your bag sir, but we were unable. We can't give you a refund, because we gave your money to McDonald's already. We are not affiliated with McDonald's in any way, because it's a franchise agreement. Go eat at Burger King if you actually want food." This store just wants your money. They don't want to do anything in return. If you walk in ready to pay them, they will gladly accept. If you actually want them to *do* something for you, you have better luck buying Lotto scratch its. On my way out, I said I'd just use FedEx every time in the future. Ugly toothed fat b-----d replied "That's fine with me!" So in a very real way, this one star rating comes with the blessing of this branch - that's how much of a f--- they give. Summary: GET A RECEIPT OR THEY WILL CALL YOU A LIAR I dropped off a pre-paid UPS package on their counter on Wednesday morning with my printed label taped to the front, much as I have done for the past ten years I have used this store. The package was a return from a recent online purchase. Imagine my surprise then, when the same package arrived back on my doorstep two days later with a self-adhesive UPS label on it addressed to me. Huh?? Also, I could tell the package had been opened and re-taped. I have no idea what events could have transpired for this to happen, so I went back down to the UPS store to try and figure it out. I wasn't mad, just mildly confused. I walked in and tried to explain what happened. The person helping me (late 40-ish Indian man), who I'm assuming was the manager because regular employees would probably not act like this, looked at my label and asked me if I had a receipt. I told him no, and then he told me the label wasn't printed there. I said, "okay, but I'm just trying to figure out what could have happened, and want to send this out". He pointed me to the computer and said for $3.20 I could print out a new label. Besides being an absurd amount for printing out one piece of paper, I didn't want to do it on principle. I had already printed out a label, and it went missing after I dropped it off at his store. He refused to take any responsibility for the matter, and said it was "my word against yours". So I guess he was calling me a liar? It was so strange. I tried to explain that I wasn't blaming him for anything. This weird thing happened and I just wanted my package returned! All I was asking was for him to print out a label and take my box, but he wouldn't do it. Is that normal? I mean, even the drivers have hand-held label printers, it's not a big deal. I didn't understand why he was being so weirdly aggressive and smug about it and refusing to help me. I left the store with my package still in hand, not expecting that type of encounter at all. I just learned an expensive lesson. Do not have your packages shipped to this store, even if your vendor suggests it. They charge $10 per package. I just paid $30 to retrieve three boxes. All they did is hold the boxes for an hour until I picked them up. Nobody warned me in advance of this fee--not the vendor and not UPS. Worst UPS store on the face of the planet. The young guy with the beanie was very helpful but otherwise one of the Latinas was not helpful in the slightest. One of the computers was not working properly and she pretty much left me to sort with it on my own. When I asked if they could print a label for me she said no due to security reasons and went on to the next customer. She made me feel totally ignored. Never going back again. I went to this store because they had three services I needed all in one place: LiveScan fingerprinting, notary services and passport photos. I didn't ship anything so I can't comment on that aspect of their service. I went in expecting to be there for at least an hour, and was out in 45 minutes with everything completed. I did wait a little bit because there were two other customers ahead of me for the LiveScan service. The clerks that helped me were friendly and answered all my questions. Overall it was a good experience and I'd recommend it to anyone in the area who needs this array of services for a professional license application or something similar. read more

We came here two days in a row describing the items in our huge apartment we needed to pack up and she gave us very good recommendations, in addition to tips and tricks. We just came back a third day in a row to get more foam wrap and she was again so helpful and nice in confirming that we wrapped and packaged everything correctly. Hopefully, we don't have to come back to get any more supplies but if we do, I'd love to see Aracelli again! read more

This is my neighborhood UPS Store and I use it regularly to send packages, documents, and print documents from the computer. The woman running the shop has been helpful, friendly, and professional. When I've needed a service they don't provide, eg, money orders, she knows where to get them nearby. It's a small efficient shop. read more

I just opened a mailbox at this location and the people couldn't be nicer. They give you a key so you can come any time you want, email you when you get a package, and will even check your box if you call in so you don't have to come in if there isn't anything waiting for you. No idea why people are so negative about this place - seems like a well-run operation to me! read more

I have never been so nickle and dimed before - which is terribly frustrating when I try to support local businesses whenever possible. I was shipping a return item with a pre-printed label that was e-mailed to me. When I arrived with my box open so they could see what was inside, the clerk asked if I wanted it taped back up - which was a yes. I had the label ready to print on a thumb drive. When I was about to hand the thumb drive to the clerk, he indicated that I would have to use their public desktop at a $3 charge, plus $.20 per page. In shock, I shared that FedEx only charges $.10 to print - he was unmoved and suggested that I go there to print then. When I confirmed that this was indeed a UPS store, and that they wanted to charge me $3.20 to print up their own label, the other woman there (perhaps manager or owner) made the excuse that they're a franchise - so, still UPS, and as franchise, they set their own fees. I left the box there while I headed out to FedEx Office to print the UPS label, neverminding that I had already paid for metered parking at their store. I returned, paid for metered parking again, waited in line while the customer ahead of me was charged a $2.50 surcharge for a $2.50 postage label, and then handed the clerk my $.10 printed label. He took my label and as he was affixing it to the box informed me that there was a $2.00 charge for the tape. Their clear lack of regard for their customers by charging such extraneous fees makes me want to avoid UPS all together whenever possible, and when not possible, I will drive the extra distance to not support this "franchise." read more
