BEWARE: DO NOT USE THIS STORE! This store is currently under investigation. I recently mailed a package from here. I was given false information about shipping and pricing. Since they email the receipt, I didn't realize it until I was home and saw the email. I called the main UPS consumer number to complain, and they told me the exorbitant price I was charged did not match their manifest. In short, the store had reported a much lower price to them for shipment, basically overcharging me by 50%. UPS is now investigating this business. As far as I'm concerned, it's fraud and graft and I will NEVER use any of their services again. The regular US Postal Service one block away provides services without the mark up and flagrant dishonesty. read more

Prices are exorbitant to the point of being offensive, even taking into account the high-rent neighborhood. They wanted $18 to ship a package that I shipped from the post office for $6. Mailbox rental is twice what I have been quoted from other businesses in the area. Service is friendly but when they are ripping you off it doesn't help that they do it with a smile. read more

If I could give negative stars for this place I would. I came in today to mail a package. Upon entering, I was ignored by the two staff working for several minutes. Finally, one of the staff asked "what do you want?". How pleasant a greeting, not! I informed her I needed to mail the package in my hand, she handed me a slip to fill out and resumed ignoring me. Finally after I had finished filling out the form & gotten her attention she started entering the information I had filled out on the form. I had already looked up the postage cost on ups.com, so imagine my surprise when she informed me the cost to ship would be twice the price on the ups website. At first I thought there must be some mistake, and I went through what she was entering on her computer & the ups website on my phone. Nope, she said the price is twice as expensive here as on ups. She even went on to state that if a customer prints out a mailing label from their printer & drops it off at this location, they will add on a charge. I protested asked to call ups headquarters. She refused to connect the call for me, so still standing in the store I called the main customer service line myself. Anyway, what the customer service rep very politely told me is that ups stores are franchises and have some discretion over rates charged in individual stores, but that the prices listed online are recommended for stores & honored by ups customer centers. This store charges double the standard ups rate!! If you are shipping from here you are getting ripped off! So, I made this call in the store. I suppose out of cowardice at facing me getting off the phone and asking how this store justifies charging double the normal ups rate or embarrassment at the ridiculous rates; the women who had been initially assisting me disappeared before I was off the phone. In short if you are looking for staff to alternate between completely ignoring you or being rude to you and want to waste your money on exorbitant shipping prices; this is the ups store for you! After waiting patiently while others toke care of their shipping needs I approached the table saying I need a document notarized. At that moment a gentleman returned who wanted to pickup his mail. I stood aside and told him that I do not mind waiting. When my turn came the same woman attending the others refused to notarize my document. It was my CA ID, my passport and my social security card on one page. She insisted that even though I had brought her the originals, she would have to put each one on a separate page and charge me for 8 pages because I needed 2 originals. I refused to do so; her next remark was "there is the door". I went 2 blocks down and they accommodated my needs without question. I realized then that the UPS Store was trying to cheat me. Is there a way to give a negative review??? OK so I was returning my book that I rented. I had the box and needed the label. The owner of the store said that it would cost me $15 to use her computer to print a label.. I asked if she could just print me one and she said no.. So after our back and forth I decided to go print my label myself. I come back to the store and the owner again is helping me. She throws a bag for the label to go inside and tells me to put it in. I place the label in the bag and she says that is not correct. I ask her to place it in the right way and she refuses stating that it is my responsibility to do this. I do it again. She scans the box and throws the receipt at me. I take it and leave. I never got confirmation in my email that the book was on its way back to chegg. And when I went to my account they hadn't received it yet. Chegg was so cool they just didn't charge me because I had the UPS number. read more

I am writing this because of my extreme frustration with the very poor customer service I've recently experienced with this place. I took a portable sewing machine in to be shipped across the country. The associate at the desk said she thought it would be fine to ship it in it's case so assuming she knew more than I , I agreed. I was charged around $80. The sewing machine disappeared from the UPS tracking site because is was damaged and was sent to UPS. They determined that it had been improperly packed and sent a letter to the UPS store who forwarded it to me, not mentioning at that time that they had no intention of doing anything about it. I emailed the associate asking what I should do but never heard back. I finally called and was told that they were not responsible. My understanding is that I took something to be packaged and shipped, paid a fair amount for it, and now am out the cost of this as well as the sewing machine which was destroyed, is that the UPS store is not taking any responsibility whatsoever. The worst aspect aside from the cost and loss of the machine is the utter lack of concern for my property and the time wasted. I will never, ever, do business with this place again. I'm glad all the other reviewers are so pleased with their ability to take passport photos. Maybe they should stick to that. read more

I have used this UPS store before with no problems. Today, a rude, supercilious clerk acted is if I were a cretinous nag because paperwork that should have been faxed to his store.did not arrive I called the source and they assured me they would fax immediately. When I returned to tell him the papers were being faxed he said "do you hear a fax coming in?" Well, no, I didn't, but I do not think a wise cracker answer like that showed any respect for a customer who was as in the dark as he about where the papers were. I had a folder of documents that I slapped down on the desk in frustration and he told me I had no right to slam things around in his store and accused me of being in a bad mood. When I protested his comments, he continued to be rude and abusive.He is welcome to his store . I went elsewhere to do business and shall continue to do UPS business anywhere but there, even though the location is convenient. read more

Horrible experience this past week. Emergency situation, needed to get a small package to Europe ASAP. We paid through the nose to get the package there by Wednesday - which was barely fast enough to be a solution to our problem. Package not delivered on Wednesday. Now it's Thursday and the package is apparently stuck in customs with zero visibility on actual delivery date, which makes the whole shipping exercise a completely waste of time and money. Staff at the store now say "we can't actually guarantee delivery dates for international". It would have been helpful to point that out WHEN WE CAME INTO YOUR STORE LAST SATURDAY and thoroughly explained our emergency situation (which you did not). Instead, you took our money (over $100) and then claimed it's not your fault. Techncially, it may not have been your fault, but you also clearly knew that what you were offering was not a viable solution to our problem. Do right by your customers, don't screw them. Very impressed with this store. I go here whenever I need to ship something or return a package. Have also got passport photos taken here. Their customer service is superb. They really go out of their way to help you, unlike the torture that is the post office. On a recent visit, the lady behind the counter helped me to unpack my package and select a different box that significantly lowered my shipping cost. Really not something she had to do at all. And this is the norm for this place. I also witnessed her treat a homeless man with kindness and dignity. He came in to borrow a piece of paper/pen to write with. The ups lady knew his name and obviously allowed him to borrow writing materials from time to time. It was pretty remarkable to witness, I thought she was going to shoo him out but she greeted him like any other person. It made a big impression on me. I just had the worst experience at this store, the Indian lady who is also a notary was the one who was helping me. We had a misunderstanding and she started yelling / raising her voice at me instead of explaining to me in a calm manner. I asked her in a calm voice not to yell or raise her voice at me which didn't not work,I asked to talked to the manager and unfortunately the manager thought the Indian lady handled the situation appropriately and seems to think its ok to yell at a customer. I work customer service and and I totally disagree. I have to mention a female customer before me asked the Indian lady not to talk down to her or treat her like a child. She needs to be replaced! There is one girl who works there who I really really like who always made it a joy to go there, since I started buying from amazon I have been there many times to returning items. I've used this store on many occasions over the years. I've gotten things notarized, taken on-line "driving course tests" for web traffic school; mailed packages, bought supplies, gotten passport photos, used the internet and recently opened a PO Box here. The new owner/manager, Hitten Patel, is great. He is super friendly, very customer oriented, and gives great service. I give it 5 stars because the customer service is great. I always get a warm welcome when I am there. They are a little pricey, but i feel that the excellent service and how many things i can do there (so all the convenience) is worth the cost. Melinda is awesome: consistently professional and kind, beyond the call of duty. Our family is very stressed out with a sick kid, and are shipping things randomly needed to all kinds of addresses. Last week I left a critical piece of info off the address, and on top of that, lost the receipt. I called Melinda to see what to do. She said, 'let me handle this for you.' She called UPS, tracked down the pkg, added to the incomplete address, and then called both of the family phone numbers to let us know things were in order and when the new package arrival date would be. I can't believe this kind of customer service. Or should I just say lovingkindness? We live closer to 3 other UPS stores, but this is our store. read more

I bought a mailbox for a year under the assurance from the store employee that many people use the boxes for their main business address for purposes of having a business location in Oakland. When I got to the business licensing department, they told me NO mailbox addresses are valid- it must be a physical location of your business. So since I was honest, they would not accept my UPS mailbox address as my business address. When I returned to the UPS store to ask for a refund (of my $390 for the yearly fee- ONE DAY after I bought it), I was refused a refund by the employee. I emailed the owner of the store at least 4 times and never heard back from him. It was such a frustrating experience for a new business owner to go through- there are so many rules and regulations to follow and I was just trying to do things right...but unfortunately blew $390 for a mailbox I didn't need. I've only gone to pick up mail twice- and the second time I was locked out of the store- my key wouldn't work and they had installed a key code box that requires you to stop by during regular business hours to get the code before you can use it for the first time. So I've been unable to get my mail for several months since I can't ever come by during my work day since I work full time. Overall, a horrible experience with extremely poor customer service. read more

the reviews for this location are VERY mixed. some people hate this place with a passion, and some seem to really love it. well, after reading tons of reviews, i thought i'd make my own educated decision. i just picked up a fender jaguar at this location and the people honestly couldnt be any nicer or accomodating. apparently some girl named melinda either worked/works here and is a complete nightmare with people skills. fortunately for me, i never had to deal with her. the older indian lady was very nice and patient with me, the younger indian girl was very nice as well. there was a younger white guy and another girl who looked spanish and they all were in good spirits. i wanted to join the hivemind here and say "f this place, the people suck!" but i cant. i honestly had a good experience at this store. i didnt try to get anything notarized or anything like that, but this is the second time i've been to this UPS store, and both times have honestly been painless. i think they may have changed ownership somewhat recently... i dunno, YMMV i guess.. read more
