Great lunch and dinner food. Really cute inside and even has outside seating. Breakfast is a hit and miss. Ate here on a Sunday morning and the food was so cold. Service was none existent after getting our plates, no check in to make sure food was okay and no refill on coffee. The server seemed flustered, seen her running around (loudly) a bunch but never really doing anything. Even heard another table talking to the guy server extremely upset about the other lady working. I came again for breakfast during the week and it was much better. Food still took a while but it was hot when we got it and I got lots of coffee! Server was awesome and he was on top of things. I'd definitely recommend this place for dinner, completely different kind of staffing, propt, very friendly (had Jennifer one night and Sarah the next night). Those two were very busy but still managed to keep on their game. The two dinners I had were amazing and quick, fish tacos, yum, and BBQ ribs were delicious! This place hit the spot for my friends and I. When we went on a Saturday morning it seemed to us they were understaffed for the amount of people dining that morning. The two women serving were really running around to get everyone helped. They did a great job though. The server we had we attentive and got the food out to us within about 15 minutes. I got the French toast and it was good. I would say 4/5. But I'd probably try the banana bread french toast next time. The overall experience was positive and with how busy they were and the good service I'm giving them a 5/5 overall. read more

Sad day to be writing this review. We have come here for the last 3 years after running the Columbia Crossing, and this was hands down the worst. The food is always good. The two ladies who were serving on Sunday were overwhelmed and it showed. I get it, that the restaurant was incredibly busy...however, we waited 30 minutes to get a drink order in. After mentioned to both of them that we had yet to be served. Then it seemed we were pawned off on the newest waiter, he was kind and did his best. The one woman was so focused on serving the customers in bar/lottery area that she just let the entire dining room go to the wayside--which was incredibly frustrating. Next year, I can say we will be finding somewhere else to take our group for breakfast. We'll be sticking to only coming in on the weekdays when the service is leaps and bounds better. read more

The french toast is the best I've ever had. It's crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. It seems to be coated with something to add the crunchy texture. I don't know what it is, but I had it twice while in Astoria. Service was exceptional as well. read more

Average food, edible but overpriced. It is conveniently located and the service is usually okay. Burgers used to be good but they have gone seriously downhill for some reason. Went this weekend and it was a dried up little puck on a bun for $17. Their happy hour is okay, and is the only reason they got any stars. They also have breakfast later than most. read more

Hard to mess up breakfast but they succeeded! My company was the best part of the meal. The wait staff failed greatly with communication, most of the time we were ignored. BUT, my friend commented immediately that "how can anyone mess up a pancake"... thirty minutes later she became very ill from food poisoning... Amazing! We will not return! read more

I've worked close to this cafe for 3 years and have eaten there more than 50 times over that time. For the first 2 years everything was overpriced but fairly fast and consistent. I usually got a turkey sandwich with sourdough, cheddar and a side salad with ranch. Almost religously. Either that or a hamburger. Originally I actually tried everything on the menu and everything was decent except for a few dishes. Last year has been totally different. Any time you suggest that the bread is a little stale or that the croutons are stale you are told that that's just the way it is. OK... I regularly ate there and I knew that was BS. One day I ordered everything to go and then when I got home the salad tasted bitter. After I ate little bites I noticed that the cucumbers were the problem. I licked a cucumber and it tasted like bleach. Straight up bleach and my tongue started feeling numb and stinging. I had my girlfriend try it and she said the same thing. I got pretty sick that night. I called them to ask them what they could do about it or at least warn the staff to look at the cucumbers. I was met with silence and then I was told that I should contact the manager. I said ok and they said that he only responds via Facebook. I don't have facebook and I never will. So I asked for him to give me a call back as soon as he came into the cafe an hour later. He never called. He never even came to work that day. From what I've read on the other reviews this is not abnormal for the boss. After being a loyal customer for 3 years I have never set foot back in that place. It's a shame because it really shouldn't be that hard to be consistent. Look at other restaurants in the area that care and you will notice that Uptown cafe doesn't actually care about their wait staff, cooks or the patrons. I'm a big believer that 5-star reviews should be reserved for places that leave my jaw on the floor, and looking back to my experience here yesterday is exactly that. My sandwich was the PERFECT balance of meaty and grilled and stacked-high and OMG I want another one. My onion rings were fantastic. They have clean bathrooms AND offered more than once to refill my to-go beverage as we waited to take our food to go. Wow. So Annie's was closed and Ron and Trinas had burned...so to Uptown we went. It was noon, but we are on vacation. First bump in the road was they do breakfast till 2 on weekends but not on Tuesday. Great. We had drinks before we were told this....or we would have left. So we order. I ordered a French dip and asked are the fries thin like shoe string or fat. I hate the fat fries so I would have ordered tater tops instead. The waitress assured me that the fries were thin. Hubby orders a blt and salad no croutons. Comes out w croutons and wrong dressing. She turns and takes it back. Food comes...his is ok. Mine has this plate of fat fries and the beef is like shoe leather and all salt. It was like they emptied a salt shaker on it. When delivering the check she doesn't even set it down before she says ohhhh it's wrong and goes to get another one. When the right one comes they charged 2 bucks to switch from fries to a salad...10 cents of lettuce and a teaspoon of shredded cheese. Receipt said we had a drip coffee and an americano. No we had a soda and an Americano, my sandwich had only two bites out if it. No question as to why. I will pay 16 bucks for food I won't eat. We had heard they had great food so popped in. We waited 50 minutes for food! Then when we got it everything was cold. They forgot toast so they warmed up some more bread and put butter on it. Wait, how can you mess up toast? So disappointed. Lauren was our waitress and never apologized for the wait or our food that was cold. DO NOT eat here. Most bland and disgusting food I've ever tried. Whoever cooks or makes the menu has never touched seasonings or doesn't know how. Biggest disappointment on the west coast so far. Wait staff was pissy from the get go and impatient whilst only having 3 tables including us. Big yikes. After I asked her to take the food off the bill, she asked why and I told her it was bland an unenjoyable- rather than apologizing she ran back, grabbed the bill and dropped it. Never again. Fairly decent place, but I was disappointed this morning. I ordered the loaded omelet without peppers. I got to the end and my second to last bite had peppers. Now, that flavor is stuck in my mouth. I drank milk but it's still there. Ruined my experience - plus, if I was allergic, that could have made me sick! I know that they were probably cooking a few things next to each other, but that mistake is what I walked out with. Great place for breakfast. Terrible dinner experience. The waitress made our drinks and then went MIA for 10 minutes then decided to take her lunch break. I had to self serve my drink and my family's drinks. The servers were very understaffed and were very tired and upset. Customer service was lacking.
