This is a favorite of ours for lunch and dinner. The whitefish is always fresh and is prepared perfectly. Service is great and the staff is always friendly and accommodating. We were here for lunch on Friday - May 27, 2016 - and I was a little put off by the hostess stading at the far end of the bar and greeting guests coming in the door in a very loud voice. It would be friendlier and less disruptive to other guests if she were to greet new arrivals at the door. A suggestion for the chef - get rid of the rubbery green beans that are served with dinner. read more

The beer alone deserves 2 (maybe 3) stars, but the overall score is decreased to 1 due to the the quality of the food and service. We went in there based on the high reviews and ratings on Yelp and the hotel staff's recommendation. The food was below standards of the base geriatric "senior discount" buffet at 4:50PM before the prices are raised. But offered at a $17.99 price. Don't expect a decent dinner at "The Vierling" unless you like senior citizen buffet fare, and by like, I mean "really enjoy" but at "fine dining" prices. Go for the beers, not the food or service. Maybe that was our mistake. But one you fellow Yelpers should consider. Lesson learned. read more

I was extremely disappointed, yet again, by the service I received from The Vierling. First time I went, me and my husband were waiting to be seated when roughly 5 minutes later a couple came him whom the owner knew and seated them right away. I thought that was rude, waited another 5 minutes before deciding to leave. Second time I was with my family, sister and her two little ones. It was a late afternoon and it wasn't very busy. The hostess noticed us, she was an older lady, and walked by us a few time and ignored us before finally seating us 3 minutes later. I know, no big deal, but the restaurant was NOT busy at all. Overall, the service was slow for us and they didn't seem to happy about my nieces being there. Overall, the service I've had has deterred me from going there for a while. Sorry. read more

I'm only giving one star since that is the lowest I can go. We went waited a little while for waitress. Since we had never been to this area before my husband asked about the fish. Our waitress was very rude and stated she didn't have time for questions she'd come back when we made up our mind. Needless to say we got up and left! read more

Loved this place! From the classic pub decor, to the great house beer selection (if you love fruit beers, you have to try the blueberry wheat) and the wide menu - you really can't go wrong there. Came in for lunch, tried a house beer, had a salad (which was awesome for the UP, which is still rather anti-salad), while my companions had everything from a salmon burger, hummus and a reuben. Everyone was happy and impressed with what they got. A real winner and will definitely be back on my next Marquette visit! read more

This place has potential to be a great place, if more attention was paid to details. It has great ambiance, and old high ceiling room, with antique decor. Had dinner there on 07/07/2017. My wife had the the chicken marsala which was awful. A rubbery texture; tough even to cut through. I had the salmon burger which was very bad. Dried out and tasteless. On top of that the service was bad. When our waitress finally appeared at our table (first time since dropping off dinner), she had our bill with her and clearly wanted to turn the table. read more

After a half hour wait to be seated, our order was taken promptly, however, the food took forever. Our waiter even apologized and bought an additional beer for us. I ordered the Chicken Marsala...two thin slabs of chicken covered in canned mushrooms(at least 2 cans), the fresh green beans were rubbery and then I got the wrong side. The waiter quickly realized and bought extra. The wait staff was excellent but if the cooking staff is busy apparently they can't handle it. If you're told a half to an hour wait, I would recommend going somewhere else. read more

We ordered the whitefish fish and chips. The fish was good, not great, but good. The accompanying fries had enough salt that you could deice half of the UP, though. I would have rated the restaurant higher but the service was almost non-existent. Once the meal was delivered the waitress disappeared and a member of our party had to go find water. Had to wait for a seat both times I went here, but definitely worth the wait. Staff is fast and friendly, host is a riot, and the whole place makes you feel comfortable. Was on vacation from Chicago, and would have loved to take this place back with me. Ate at a table one time, and the bar the other. Both seating arrangements were an enjoyable experience. read more

Micro brewery is good, fish entrees are always excellent. They may try to do too much variety with their menu (ex: italian??) but we really like it here. Dry overcooked fish and chicken. Ten of us ate there and all had the same complaint. Rice poorly done again, as it has been for years. Same rice and beans for sides for over 15 yrs. AMAZING blueberry and peach wheat beer. Actually, all the beer is great but these are my favorites. I come to MQT every summer form NYC and have to hit my quota of whitefish piccata from the Vierling! I come at least once a week, it's delicious. I refill my growlers quite often as well. I had never had a bad experience until I came across a waitress who asked me to tip in cash because the owner wants us to.....RIGHT. It really put a damper on my visit and it was just so rude. I was a waitress in college and had to share my tips with the line cooks, dishwasher, etc. I really hope she wasn't trying to escape sharing the tips with these equally important people. I hope when I return next summer she is GONE! read more

Went to this restaurant by myself for an early dinner. It was my first time and it was highly recommended. The person who seated me ( the manager) was as cold as a fish. I tried to be friendly and made a little small talk as I was being seated. Forget it. He wasn't into the whole hospitality thing. Then there was the waitress...felt like I was getting the bum's rush all the way around. She seemed irritated when I asked her if they had anything other than green beans as a vegetable but managed to sort of rise to the occasion. The food was ok...not hot...it would have been much better had it been. I had stuffed/layered whitefish. The portions were very generous. The physical environs were nice, but I felt like I couldn't really relax and felt uncomfortable, so I rushed through my meal. I was dressed casually, but according to the locals, not too casually for this place. I will not go back to this establishment. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone dining solo. Hope to have a better experience tomorrow somewhere else here in Marquette. read more

I go here whenever in Marquette. I eat at a lot of restaurants and this place has the best fresh caught whitefish in the world. You can get it deep fried, broiled, or cajun. They have a whitefish chowder that is absolutely excellent. My grown children come and get their craft beers, which they rate excellent. I just get their fresh brewed ice tea which is always good. The place is clean, with pleasant wait staff. You have a great view of lake superior in the back seating area. Their other food is also great and they have good salads and coleslaw. The prices are very reasonable-about $10 for whitefish. They also have a flat bread pizza that some of my relatives really likde when we went last week-me I always get whitefish! 5 stars for the best whitefish, clean pleasant facilities, good prices and good food! read more
