I don't have the foggiest clue how The View has ever won an award. In twenty years of giving them a shot once a year to see if they've gotten better, it's always a "nope." If you want a cold beer on a hot day, no problem, they've got you covered. They supposedly have the best burger in town, but I'd rate it somewhere between acceptable and just edible. The food and the experience are only slightly above eating the garbage my elderly father grills up over propane in his yard. I keep trying to like this joint, but they never manage to hit it over the (paper) plate. read more

I'm from Texas and was looking for a decent burger to give me a little taste of home. This place DEFINITELY did it for me. I ordered the Breakfast Burger and my boyfriend ordered the Becky Burger. They were FANTASTIC. They're big enough that I was able to take half my burger home for later and I couldn't wait to eat the leftovers the next day. You've also got to try the onion rings. I'm not a huge fan of onions, but I devoured these onion rings. The thick batter that they use makes them extra delicious. You won't find a better burger or better onion rings in South Bend. The only reason I'm giving The View four stars instead of five is because of the seating. It's a really small place and we ended up having to eat at the bar, but it worked just fine for us! The only other complaint I have is that this place allows smoking, which can get a little frustrating if the person sitting next to you at the bar smokes while you're trying to eat. But the food is worth these minor drawbacks! read more

I have always enjoyed The View but will not overhype it here because it is small and a dive bar. Tuesdays are always busy at the view and for good reason - $3 burgers and $3 pitchers. They make a good burger and it's cheap to go along with cheap beer. Not a whole lot else to come for so I won't give it more than 3 stars but it is worth a stop in for a good burger and some cheap beer. read more

The burger was delicious but I can't give it 5 star because my call in order was not correct. I ordered a single cheeseburger with fries and I was craving fries. I received a double cheeseburger with kettle chips. If going off the taste and flavor of the burger it would get 5 star. It was so big I ate it in two days but very delicious. read more

This place won a best burger regional war in 2014 and is the reason I gave it a shot a couple years ago. I've been here a few times now. Every time I walk out feeling satisfied but couldn't get on board with the idea they had an award winning burger. Today I decided to build my own burger and my whole world has been turned upside down. I got the single with mushrooms, grilled onions, pepperjack cheese and, on the side, I asked for the bacon aoli. I paired it with the waffle fries and all it took was 1 bite and I now concede that was the best burger I've had in my 3+ years here in Michiana. A huge down side was that even with a water the meal was $17 ($14 something + tip). I'm probably just a cheap skate but I don't like spending that much for a lunch. It will certainly deter me from frequenting The View as much as I would like now that they've turned my taste buds upside down today. read more

I wouldn't go near this place. I worked for a plumber awhile back and had to do some work here. It was the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. The area behind the bar was filthy and the cooking area was even worse. I'm not sure how this place hasn't been shut down but I will never go there. read more

Decent enough bar for a newbie, but if you have been around for a while, like most bars bars near downtown, it is kinda hit or miss, depending on who is there, or who isn't. Place won best burger a few years ago, {I voted for them}, but something seems to have changed. Maybe it's just me, but the same 24 stooges seem to haunt the place all of the time, and the melodrama of the help gets tiring.The owner is really cool, and makes super holiday dishes, as well as great gratis Friday foodstuffs after 5. One never knows what level of patron is there any nite, but overall the place is fairly safe and the food overall palatable.We used to call it the bottomfeeder, as they used to close the latest of all the local bars, so one could circle back after visiting all the other places, and see what flotsam or jetsam is awash on a stool.Not a place to go on a dinner date, but cool for brews and burgers.A real slice of South Bend nightlife. P.S. Thank you Parkview for being a smoking establishment. Good burgers, and for a bar burger it's fantastic! They do flat-top burgers here and they do them very well, cooked perfectly and I think they even get their beef from someone local. The beer selection is pretty weak, all of their craft beers are in bottles so I don't go there to drink, just to eat a cheap, greasy, delicious burger, pound a shot and I'm on my way! read more

This place is awesome! They definitely have the most delicious burger in town, and good fried food as well. Further, on Tuesdays, burgers are only $3.50, and pitchers of beer are only $3.00 (they each used to be $2, but alas). The atmosphere is definitely enjoyable - it has a the vibe of a long-lived, family-owned bar. It has been around for as long as I can remember. The beer selection is sort of mediocre, but the mixed drinks are always very strong, well made, and cheap. Also, the service never fails to be stellar. My wife and I love this bar, and try to stop by whenever we are in South Bend. To us, it is definitely the best bar in South Bend. I will mention however, that it is very, very smokey. If you don't care about the smoke, it is absolutely a 5-star legend of an establishment. If you do care, it is a big downer coming home and smelling like smoke. I am not a fan of the smoke, but to me, its worth it. I strongly recommend the Becky Burger --- it is amazing. read more
