Sweet potato fries

Randomly walked past and decided to stop in. It was a happy hour special running so I was able to try quite a few things for a decent price. The oysters were really good and the chicken sandwich was huge. Deviled eggs were ok but tasty.

Never been more happy to have an impromptu happy hour here! We came here to meet some friends that are locals and it was great timing on a Friday because we got there right before happy hour. We all ordered some drinks to start and I went with their twist on an aperol sprtiz (I don't remember the name.....) but its one of their specials that has aperol! And it was delish!!!! After that we got a bunch of bites to eat including some of the happy hour bites. We got the board which had a bunch of different dips of which each was great but have to admit the pimento cheese was my fave! Of course we had to get the parmesan fries and we decided to share the mac and cheese as well. Delicious bites! Our waitress was super great and checked in on us so we ordered a second drink an espresso martini! It was good, not the best I had so stick to the other drinks on the menu! Overall lovely place to stop in for a happy hour. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Lots of TVs if you want to catch the game and they open the windows during nice weather.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 10/10 if you are in the area!

Espresso martinis

Updating my review! One of the best espresso martinis in the city. I tried my friends frozen one and was jealous I didn't get that. Love the burgers here as well, they have a good deal for happy hour. Regular prices are a little steep, but it's a good option for a cocktail vibe in old town!

Stopped in for a quick happy hour w some friends. Our server was great, quick, checked on us often, helpful. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was busy and vivacious inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The outside patio was also poppin bc the weather was nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was solid, we shared the tuna tacos, lobster deviled eggs (amazing), we got 3 dips: pimento, artichoke and spinach, and Brie. We also got extra cucumbers for our gluten free friend. This is a great spot for happy hour! Parking is rough everywhere on wells so plan ahead!

Can always count on The Vig for a good cocktail or food! Solid spot with a variety of offerings on their menu. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice patio for summer.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Kind attentive servers.

Vig is always a treat. They are consistent with their quality across different locations. The first VIG that I ever visited was in Phoenix. Felt nostalgic to come to this location in Old Town Chicago. I have been here for brunch and happy hour. Food quality was good. Drink prices and service was on par. We were lucky that they still had the Frose on tap. That drink is delicious. We also like the quality of the Cheeseburger and Fries. The aioli that comes with the French fries is so satisfying to dip your potatoes in. Don't sleep on their late Happy Hour as they don't end until 7pm.

I've been wanting to try this joint for SO long. WORTH the wait!! The entire idea behind The Vig and the concept behind the name Chadrick the experience all that much more. I'm not a salad guy, but the Homer Greek was fantastic! The Moroccan Turkey burger had multiple flavor profiles - A MUST! We sat at the bar, the bartender knew his bourbons and suggested a momentous choice for me. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Upscale, moody speakeasy style ambiance - my favorite.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Thank you Vig team, this experience was awesome.

Long overdue review for The VIG in Old Town, Chicago! I stopped by during Lollapalooza 2025 and wanted to try their spreads--and wow, they were so good. Let's just say I got totally carb-wasted after lol. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant has such good vibes, the staff is friendly, and the service is fast, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a great snack / meal in the city.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely a spot worth checking out if you're in Chicago!

Came in for happy hour after a long day of work. Had an old fashioned that was perfect. Service was great and also enjoyed a burger.

Chimichurri steak - medium rare
Ellison N.

This was my first time at The Vig after living in the neighborhood for many years and I enjoyed it! We came with a large group (11 people) and our server (Serena I believe?) was absolutely fantastic. She gave great recommendations and was very attentive without being overbearing. I ordered the chimichurri steak cooked medium rare and really enjoyed it. The steak was well cooked and the chimichurri was fresh and not overpowering. The potatoes that came on the side were surprisingly very good as well. My cousin ordered the steak and fries which she enjoyed but her medium rare steak definitely bordered on the rarer side. I have a gluten allergy and the menu was well marked and easy to understand. There is not a gluten free bun offered but you can get some of the sandwich options without bread. The table ordered the parmesan fries and meatball as appetizers, both of which were enjoyed by all. I liked that the fries came with both a chipotle mayo and garlic aioli. I decided not to drink this evening but the cocktail list looked appealing and the sip of sangria I had was very good! My only other complaint is that the restaurant can get very noisy which wouldn't be an issue at all with smaller parties but with a group of our size it did sometimes feel like we had to shout to hear each other. Glad to have finally tried this place and will considering coming back in the future for a happy hour!

Espresso Martini (made with Mile High vodka!)
Anna N.

My mom's in town so we stopped for happy hour drinks and apps here and loved it. I was especially excited to see they had some drinks made with vodka from the Denver distillery I used to work at (the server even went back and checked for me!) Here's what we ordered: - Lobster Deviled Eggs - Espresso Martini - Chandon Rose - Frose (vodka drink with a pretty hibiscus flower) The eggs were super flavor packed, although its funny there were only 3 (where did the last half of the second egg go..) The Frose was refreshing, sweet, and spirit-forward. The espresso martini was as straightforward as it gets and delicious. All good notes from mom on the rose (: Service was friendly and personable. Overall vibes were great. I recommend the outside patio - it's super cute and Old Town is a fun neighborhood to sip in.

The food pretty good

Good for a late night bar food, I liked the deviled eggs and the burger. Drinks were good, loud, fun atmosphere not a bad place to visit while in Chicago.

Goodnight Danny Trejo and Old fashioned
Morgan S.

Old school vibes with speakeasy style. The VIG is a swanky spot for a happy hour. Menu items are unique and flavorful. The Goodnight Danny Trejo packed a spicy punch that was equally complimented by the mango. Not overly sweet at all. Old fashioned was solid, too. Don't skip on asking about their frozen cocktail of the day! When we went, it was a divine strawberry margarita.

All the premier dinners come with salad, cheese, fondue, and the chocolate fondue - You are just choosing what protein you would like. The Prince Geja combination has a little bit of everything. However, we most liked the seafood which includes lobster and the scallops were to die for! Also the beef also cooks well. Favorite dipping sauce included the pimento mayo, chimichurri, and garlic butter. The cheese fondue is quite rich and the bread is quite filling so maybe get as much cheese as you can on each piece of bread. The chocolate fondue, I think is actually the best course as the Belgium chocolate melts so well and has a decadent but not overly sweet flavor. It pairs well with all that is provided for dipping, which includes poundcake, rice Krispies, strawberries. They also have some liquor that they light on fire at first so you can roast the marshmallows. It is such a well thought out experience. Service flows very well from two waiters who take your order set up your fondue pots for each course, but be prepared to spend at least 2 hours on this experience. Check out the Groupon but also I write a review that they just tack on the extra $50 so it's not really too much of a savings. Not sure if this is true.

They were quick to refill items and answer any questions we had. The location is classic fondue restaurant, cozy and romantic. However, also perfect for catching up with a friend. The truffle-parmesan fries: We couldn't tell if they were too salty or just salty enough, but somehow we couldn't stop eating them! Our waiter at Le Mistral was very friendly, gave some good advice on the cocktails, and was consistently attentive. My cocktail was just OK - sherry-based martini. I don't normally like a martini but all the ingredients actually seemed very much up my alley - the sherry, benedictine, rose vermouth. But the olive just overpowered. And definitely not worth the price of $24... Would definitely return and try the food next time as well.

We were not looking to feel the noize, however, and so stayed for just one cocktail. Mine was a Sazerac adjacent mix, and it was very high quality. The decor is very low light, but the vibe is pretty basic - more Paint Your Dorm Room black than Parisian Opium Den black. A bit of a missed opportunity for romance.

I really wanted to like it; this was a nine-year anniversary dinner. Service was really attentive and friendly and I did appreciate that they brought out specific utensils for me as a left-handed person, never saw that before! The restaurant felt a bit bare and sterile, I think I was maybe expecting a little more decor on the table for a Michelin star restaurant. To echo several of the reviews below, the salad was awkward to share and scanty, the soup was good but the bread served with it felt like an afterthought, the sturgeon wasn't anything special though the sauce was quite good, and we are pretty sure the cut of beef was not wagyu or if it was it was not cooked the right way. The beef was the most disappointing part, I couldn't even chew through all of it. The add-ons were the best part - pasta was great and our dessert was delicious. There was no problem with a vegetarian accommodation, but the menu we were handed does not include the details for the vegetarian courses - disappointing that I couldn't reference this to see the details of each course. All of the food was presented tastefully with meticulous attention to detail. The salad is brought out as a shared dish, which is potentially a bit awkward. Not a problem since I was dining with my husband, but I would have preferred my own salad if I was with a less familiar party. The silverware and dishes were works of art in and of themselves, but our table was scratched up considerably. My dessert was presented very creatively - although my husband's was much more straightforward. Dessert was an optional add-in, so a separate bill was brought out for this at the end. My husband carelessly left a tip on top of the hefty service charge they apply by default, but I didn't realize until after the fact since I'd gone to the restroom.

I'd never been to Willow Room and liked that they had a four course dinner menu, with items I liked. I was able to make a reservation for a Saturday night at 8:15pm. PARKING Parking on Halsted on a Saturday night can be a nightmare, and it did take a minute to find street parking. North of the 1800 block is busier because there are several restaurants within a two block radius. Side streets are permit parking after 6pm. Meters on Halsted are $2.50/hr. ATMOSPHERE Willow Room was pretty packed. We had a reservation for 8:15pm and my party of two was seated right away. The restaurant features a full bar, dim lighting and is nice and roomy. They have banquette seating around the perimeter, in addition to tables in the middle. SERVICE Our server, who was very nice and accommodating during our dining experience, came by and gave us our menu's. I had already decided on the RW menu and after review, my friend was interested in the Beef Wellington (not on RW menu). Our server informed us that normally the whole table had to order off of the RW menu if one person does, but said she would check with the kitchen since this was the last day of RW. Luckily, we were able to proceed with ordering from different menu's. FOOD I ordered a raspberry Cosmopolitan. I'm a Riesling/Moscato girlie, but I tasted the Riesling and didn't like it. RW dinner was priced at $60. I ordered: First Course: Caesar Salad (Typical salad, was good) Second Course: Mussels (Tasted fine, came with a baguette) Third Course: Short Rib (Could've been slightly more tender and better seasoned. I've definitely had better. Wouldn't order again.) Fourth Course: Orange Ricotta Donuts (Donuts were very good. Three were served, a few more would have been more filling.) My friend ordered a glass of Pinot Noir and: Truffle Fries (Fries were very tasty. I would order again if I went back.) Beef Wellington (The breading was buttery and very good. The beef could've been more seasoned. I wouldn't order.) Key Lime Pie (Was not sweet and had no taste. When our server came back and saw it was uneaten, she offered to take it off the bill. It should be removed from the menu altogether.) The busboys and server were very attentive. Our water glasses were always filled. OVERALL The atmosphere was nice, our server was great. Of all the food we ordered, I would order the truffle fries and Cosmopolitan again. I did leave full and did take my leftover Short Rib to go. Main dishes needed more seasoning.
