I stopped by the Vig on an early Saturday afternoon. The place was hopping, but I was easily able to grab a spot at the bar. Service was fast and courteous. The food was delicious! I tried the lobster topped deviled eggs and Fried Chicken. The deviled eggs were appealing to the eye and the taste buds! They were creamy and topped with a generous amount of lobster. The heaping helping of fried chicken arrived with a side of macaroni and cheese. Usually I'm not a fan of Mac with breadcrumbs on top, but the Vig does it right... cheesy goodness. I leave nearby so I've been here several times. The VIG is good at what it tries to be - upscale party vibes. That's not necessarily my style so I don't come very often. I hate how loud the music is inside, you can hardly talk over brunch or dinner. However, the staff is really nice and the food and drinks I've ordered are always quite good. The burger is surprisingly very delicious, and the bacon brussel sprouts are very good but a touch sweet for me. I also loved the drink I got which was the Doris - perfect for summer. read more

I hadn't been to The Vig in years. I'm glad I decided to stop in. A very solid option for bar food and to catch the game. 3.5 stars overall. I'd rate higher, but the cocktails are average at best. This is more of a beer or simple shot and chaser kind of place. Food is where The Vig separates itself from your average bar. The chicken sandwich is as good as any viral sandwich I've tried in recent memory. Seasoned well and very crispy. (Side note. .. IMO chicken sandwiches must be crispy. This is why I believe Chick-fil-A's chicken sandwich is overated. Controversial? I know, lol.) The fries are awesome too and the garlic aïoli is perfect. Brunch is available 10am - 3pm plus the dinner menu is fair game too. We opted to split two dishes: 1) the bbq brisket hash: smothered in tangy, sweet sauce and doused in hollandaise for decadent rich contrast. Topped with a fried egg and served with potatoes mixed in. Delicious 2) fried chicken and waffle: a classic combo executed perfectly. Loved the funnel cake batter for its chewiness and flavor. I walked in, passing by 3 employees standing outside the door. There was a girl standing at the front inside, so assumed she was the host (like any other restaurant). Except, I was told I had to check-in with someone outside... Why didn't any of the 3 standing outside stop me and ask, or let alone greet me?? I had a reservation, so after I walked out to check-in, they brought me back inside to have the girl sit me at the table. Seemed very counterintuitive. Anyway, aside from that, the server was extremely friendly and attentive. Prices were a tad high for the portion and quality, but it's the neighborhood. Lobster Deviled Eggs were very rich/thick- maybe tasted dill in it? Tuna Poke Tacos were small, needed more flavor, but good. The Spreads were decent, but the artichoke & kale and pizza fondue were salty... unanimous favorite was the Brie, date, spicy apricot. I tasted the School Night, and it was tart, but also slightly sweet- not worth the price for juice though (alcohol free). Really want to like The Vig in theory - the inside is massive, they play fun upbeat music, and they serve booze. BUT they are trying too hard to play out their "upscale" vibe. Pros: -Big indoor and relatively large patio space outside Cons: -Their summer berry salad was disgustingly dressed - and I mean you can wring out the dressing on the leaves. The plate was absolutely covered in it, and it felt like it was sitting premixed in the back of your fridge for 2 days. Barely any berries, avocado, and cheese. It was a drenched mixed greens puddle. I made a reservation a week in advance for 7pm on a Saturday. My friend arrived on time, but I was 6 minutes late and she couldn't be seated without me, so they gave our table away. It was a Saturday night, so it was very crowded and busy. There were multiple parties waiting to be seated, but there was a basketball game on, and no one was budging from their table. So, we we waited over 30 minutes before we were seated. We saw one group seated before us, so I asked the server when we would be seated-- she thought we wanted a specific table that already had someone sitting there???? I told her no, any available table would be fine. A different hostess tells us we can sit at the bar, but that's not what we wanted. 30 minutes after our reservation and we walk out to find another restaurant to dine at, and the manager follows behind us and tells us the game is almost over and most people would be leaving so just wait a few minutes more. We finally see a table getting up, and we go back in the restaurant to ask for that table. Our server immediately came to us once we were seated to get drink orders. My friend wanted a sidecar, a pretty standard cocktail, and the server was unsure if the bartender could make it because it wasn't on the menu... My friend ended up just getting Jameson and ginger beer. While we were waiting to be seated I figured the food would take a while to come out, but surprisingly the appetizer came out quickly followed by our entrees. For appetizer, I got the 3 sips for $23, pizza, spicy feta and kale and artichoke dip. Spicy feta was my least favorite, but the dips are enough to share with the table for a light bite. My friend enjoyed her salmon blt and the fried chicken was good. It was 4 pieces of chicken with bone out breast and thighs. The little bottle of hot sauce added flavor, but wasn't too spicy. Overall, if I were to come back it wouldn't be during the weekend, and a less high demand time. The Whale is owned by the same management company and will likely continue going there. read more

This is a really cool bar/restaurant, but it gets very busy during the normal weekend hours. We were able to get a reservation online about a week out, but I doubt we would have succeeded if we waited any longer. The atmosphere is really interesting, feeling a bit like a swanky hang out joint, but then having TVs on every wall so you can enjoy a game. We were also thrilled with the quality of the food (though maybe a little overpriced). The appetizer spread with cheeses and toasty bread was very well plated and the bread was that perfect blend of crispy outside, soft middle. A friend called this "a young people's place" and I'd say that was accurate. It isn't exclusive in any way - which was nice - but you'll definitely be surrounded by very young professionals. read more

Such a super location to ring in a special friends bday....I made a reservation for either indoor or outdoor depending on our party of 6s mood. We were seated inside but was rather loud so got moved out and we enjoyed ourselves much better. The drinks were spot on !! I had something called patience with guava and then a sangria which were both refreshing. We ordered fish tacos, shishito peppers and the mixed platter with dips. Entrees we got Turkey burgers, Mexican vegan tortas and a few salads. It was quite satisfying and filling. We got the expresso cake with a sparker for the b'day girl which was a perfect way to end a nice meal. Our server Ellie stayed pleasant throughout our various dramas during the evening. The food was fine. The Vig burger was really juicy and the bun had some heft. The chicken and waffles was a hit. The bourbon maple syrup in the waffle is great and the hot sauce on the chicken gives it a totaly different twist. The southern fried chicken was good but the jalapeño Mac and cheese was too rich. The Saigon cake is as not bad definitely needs that chocolate sauce though. So why 3 stars? It's a little too loud for me. Talking to your neighbor is hard. The music seems suited for a club at night as opposed to brunch on a Sunday. Service seemed like they were in a hurry. When we arrived the restaurant was completely empty so we asked if it would be possible to put our tables together. He talked to us like we were 5 years old when he could have simply said sorry not possible today due to staff or whatever the reason. Thankfully they were doing normal lunch service which had more options. We ordered the vegan torta, veggie burger, pimento mac n cheese and cinnamon roll. The veggie burger was standard nothing special. The torta was a nice vegan option , I wasn't a huge fan of the jackfruit in it though, it was not very seasoned and the bread was dry. The pimento Mac n cheese was the star although would have loved for it to be a bit more creamy. The skillet cinnamon roll was the best item we had. It was salty, sweet creamy everything you would want in a cinnamon roll and easily shareable! I think most people can agree that you can't go wrong with cheese and bread. The warm/cold spread options is one of my favorite things about the Vig. The bread is always cooked perfectly and warm when it is served and I usually switch between the spinach and kale dip, pimento, spicy feta and Brie, date and spicy apricot spread options! The salmon blt is a very decent sized salmon and it is so flavorful and delicious! I love the vibe of the Vig either for just drinks- (which their espresso martinis are very delicious AND STRONG) or for dinner! It is a dark intimate vibe inside or a fun vibe outside as well! Extensive inviting bar with a corner bar in the back of the restaurant. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive. We opted for the steak, shishito peppers, meatballs, and cheesy cauliflower. The food quality was top tier. The meatballs were big but also very flavorful and the cheese pull was legendary. The peppers were delicious and cooked perfectly. I was the most impressed with the cheesy cauliflower! The cauliflower was not mushy and I loved that it still had bite and was so creamy with the cheese. The burrito was terrific, the C&W were better, as good as we've had lately (she gets them almost everywhere we go and they're typically nowhere near as good as Vig's.
