A group of friends and I checked out The Villa after a UVA game and first and foremost it was CROWDED and HOT. The service was just okay but you could tell that they had great relationship with their regulars, one of the patrons even called the waitress "butterfingers" - really funny. As for the food, it was also just okay. If you order the blueberry pancakes you may be disappointed because the blueberries are not actually cooked into the pancakes, but rather just dumped on top of them. Also, if you get the eggs, make sure you ask for the large ones. Finally, make sure you specify that you'd like the water ice cold, otherwise they might just bring you a regular water with ice in it. Stopped in this morning for breakfast while traveling. When we arrived we were promptly seated. Our waitress quickly came to take our order. I had the greek omelet and a fruit cup. The portions were large and the ingredients were fresh. It wasn't greasy or oily. The waitress was super responsive, friendly, and made sure our visit was enjoyable. My coffee cup was never empty. Fantastic food, great service. If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend checking it out for breakfast. (Would rate 4.5 out of 5, only downfall in my mind was they did not have egg whites, but it may be due to demand by those who frequent in this area). read more

I missed this place when it moved. Classic dinner food. And the staff is always nice when I come in after night shift.

I have been a fan for a very long time but we've had issues in the past such as being overcharged the amount of an entire meal. The final straw was today, my brother took me out for my birthday to get lunch and while we were waiting for an open table (it was very busy) they proceeded to seat another family who got there after us because the table that opened up was for four people and my brother and I were just two. There was no apology or explanation to us so my brother and I took our business elsewhere. Will not be back because of this. read more

I went here for breakfast today because it was on a Charlottesville food bucket list I found online. Walked in to a dingy, crowded diner that didn't look like the interior had been updated since the 1950's. It's dark, ugly and dirty looking inside and the seats in the booths are really hard. Both my friend and I were served tea in visibly dirty mugs (hers was sticky as well). On a positive note, the chocolate chip pancakes were really good, the service was quick, and it's very reasonably priced. Still will probably not go back. read more

Very disappointed writing this because i used to really enjoy this place. Before they switched locations the service was quick and there was tons of parking. Now the parking situation is awful! If there are more than 10 cars in the parking lot, good luck finding parking. Also the parking spaces are so small, the likelihood of your car getting dinged by someone else's car door is very high! The service is extremely slow! We waited about 20-25 minutes for basically just eggs and toast which wouldn't have been terrible if they were busy but there were tons of empty tables. Looking around we noticed we weren't the only ones waiting a fairly long time for food. When our breakfast finally arrived, the food wasn't that hot but the plates were scolding hot! The server didn't even warn us, just handed us extremely hot plates!! And to be completely honest the food is very mediocre. Basically like Waffle House which isn't bad when it's quick but waiting almost 30 minutes for under seasoned, bland breakfast food isn't it for me. I joined a group of 5 for brunch. The restaurant was very busy without a doubt. The food was OK. No worse or better than other diners I have been to over the years. For the most part the service was good especially considering the crowd. However, when it came time to eat only 5 of the 6 orders arrived from the kitchen. The waitress indicated that my meal would be out shortly. About 10 minutes later another server came up and asked about my order and I informed her of the situation and she headed to the kitchen - to address the issue or so I thought. Another 10 minutes ent by and I stopped our primary waitress to ask about the order. At this point most of my party were half way through their meal. Her response was less than useful. She informed me that the kitchen was busy and the order would be there as soon as it was ready. 5 minutes later the order arrived, delivered by a busy who was apologetic for the delay. The order was not complicated - a ham and cheese omelette and hash browns - and the omelette arrived less than warm. My first impressions were not good and not sure I can recommend it read more

Went here for Saturday brunch. I wasn't expecting much, and I got what I expected. It's a decent enough atmosphere--big, open room with many small tables and plenty of windows. The host and server were courteous. The food? Not awful but not terribly good. I ordered the Waffle with Eggs, and my friend ordered the Biscuits and Gravy with a side of Grits. Fried eggs were OK; hash browns were OK, though a little greasy, even for my taste; grits were...well, grits. The coffee was typical, cheap diner coffee. I'm not sure if you get a bigger waffle when you order one of the other types of waffles (I saw a bigger one on a neighbor's table), but mine was thin and bland. I ordered a side of whipped cream (real, by the way), which helped a little. The big disappointment was the Biscuits and Gravy. Though the sausage was OK, the "gravy" was a gelatinous, off-colored goo, which was clearly not made from scratch. C'mon--this is Virginia; we ought to have good Biscuits and Gravy. read more

The only reason I've ever visited was because of the location and the hours. It's open late and close to Grounds. There's a mass shutdown of restaurants at 10pm during the week. Go in with low to average expectations of the food and you'll be alright. I've never gotten sick, and I've been pleased enough with the food. But the glasses are always dirty. Now that Cook Out is open right down the street, forget this place. No need to go there ever again. The Villa is better than Waffle House, yes, but closer to Grounds than IHOP. read more

If you're looking for a big, classic, basic brunch, The Villa is great for that. Plenty of food, great value, and everything is decent. Service is fast and fine. I like their pancakes, I like their French toast, I like their corned beef hash, I like their eggs...It's just a home-cooked breakfast served in heaping portions. The Wahoo Breakfast is the way to go if you want volume. Actually, all the combos are great. This is an excellent diner right on the UVA campus. Service is homey and quick. Breakfast all day and really good lunch menu as well. If you are going to a football or basketball game on campus this is the place to eat. Great hoagie sandwiches, try the Italian or a pizza. Burgers are really good with caramelized buns and the fries are light and served piping hot. They have huge waffles and tall buttermilk pancake stacks. My husband and I visited for the first time today for breakfast. He had fluffy belgian waffle with pecans. I had two eggs, hashbrown, sausages, and english muffin. We'll be back. The sausage is to die for! And my husband's waffle was heaven--perfect combo of textures and flavors--sweet syrup, airy waffle, crunchy pecans, slippery butter. My one critique: the hashbrown tasted like it may have come out of a bag (and the pieces were all uniformly cut, like they weren't hand-cut). Can the Villa get freshly cut potato items on their menu? This is my favorite breakfast and Italian place in Charlottesville! They have a great variety of each type of food as well as lots of toppings to choose from for your pizza. The decor could use a major update (I haven't been turned off by the current design) including new tables because though the restaurant is great for groups all the tables are booths so when you fill up both sides booths at a table the rest of your group has to sit across the aisle, in front of or behind you. The only problem I've ever encountered is when I ordered the manicotti I had to get the server to take it back to the kitchen because it was not cooked all the way through but once it came back and was fully cooked it tasted great! I love the fried mushrooms and french fries here. If you have an Attractions Coupon Book there's about two coupons for The Villa in there and they always have a few in the Val Pack so they try to get you even more bang for your buck. If you go ask if Raven or Vanessa are working. In all the times I've been there over the years I have found these two to be the best! read more

Not great but not bad! Stopped in here before a UVA basketball game this past Sunday(2/24/13) with 3 other friends. We were looking for quick, greasy spoon/short order food. This was the place! Located right by UVA. Place was packed and had to wait 10 minutes for a table. Not complaining about the that. The atmosphere is pretty blah inside and out. Once seated we had a waitress with a smile in moments taking drink orders. She returned promptly with those and took our food orders. One guy ordered and Italian sub with a side of onion rings. He said it was what he expected and was tasty for the fair price. The rest of us ordered breakfast and it was spot on. Decent eggs and bacon. Pancakes were fluffy and tasty. Omelettes were huge and stuffed. Our waitress kept our drinks full(coffee, tea and sodas). All of us were satisfied with the food and service. I've been to both the Villa Diner and the Cavalier Diner (they're across the street from each other) and the Villa is by far the one I prefer. The service is leaps and bounds better than the Cavalier. The owner is super nice and the environment is really pleasant. I had the tuna melt and it may be the best tuna melt I've had in a long time. The BBQ sandwich is outstanding. The Cavalier seems to have a larger selection on their menu, but everything I've had at the Villa is done right and done well. The Villa is definitely my family's new Charlottesville diner spot. read more
