This place seems a little out of place. It's located so close to the UVa Campus. There must be a reason why it's still here. I'm still trying to figure that out. I can tell the townspeople love this place, and you can see a group of college students from time to time. Their spinich and mushroom pizza is to die for. Their breakfast is actually pretty good. If you like the overly buttery type. The staff seem as out of date or style as the decor, but I guess that is what adds to the charm of the place. read more

They made my fried eggs perfectly. English muffins were soaked in a pound of butter but they were tasty...lol The breakfast potatoes are not real diced or sliced and pan-friend potatoes. That was very disappointing. Instead they are those shredded frozen potato things then shaped into a patty. These were not the worst I've had, at least they tasted like potatoes. Add a little pepper and hot sauce and wash it down with coffee and it's all fine. Service very good. First cups of coffee were good; third and fourth cups were clearly from another pot, they were slightly bitter but not horrible. Very reasonable breakfast diner prices. read more

The Villa is a solidly average diner. There are plenty of options with all-day breakfast, sandwiches, and Italian on the menu. The prices are not great, but not too bad either. The service was friendly and quick, which was very nice. I had the chocolate chip pancakes, which were decent. A friend I was with had spaghetti, which did not look particularly appetizing, as it was just a large bowl of plain pasta with a portion of watery sauce on top. If you are to go to the Villa, I would recommend sticking to the breakfast menu. read more

If you're looking for a cheap, cheap breakfast then look no further. I went here weekly for about three months with a group of ~12. The waitstaff are very friendly and remember their customers (sometimes even their orders!). Nearly every week our receipts would get mixed up, but that's to be expected when the server is juggling that many individual receipts. The food was cheap, the coffee refills were plentiful. As I have been revisiting many of my old favorites in town during my recent trips back to C'ville, the places that are still there are pretty much as good as I remember them. Sadly, the exception is "The Villa". And likely, it's not the same "Villa" I knew as a student, when it was officially called "The Italian Villa and Pancake House" and locally called "The Villa". I used to call in late night orders here and pick them up one the way home to Lambeth, and had many early morning breakfasts here, where the line at the door would run fast and breakfast would fly out the kitchen with lightning speed, with everything perfect and never rushed. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case this visit to "The Villa", which may be different ownership than the past. Sure, we dropped in as a party of 4 right before a UVa football game, so they were packed, but everybody in town is during football game weekends. And this crowd was no different from nearly any weekend crowd at The Villa, We walked up to a small line, but were seated quickly. Service came with menus in fair time, and our orders were in a fair amount of time. But the kitchen was slow, and it took quite a bit of time to get our food. I ordered breakfast and the rest of the party lunch - I joked that the lunches were holding up the order as they were always LIGHTNING fast with breakfast. NOPE. After a long wait the waitress brought out everyone's order BUT mine. I was told mine would be "right up". Why would an order of poached eggs, ham, hash browns, and toast take so long? What was worse, as I kept waiting, there was no communication from the waitress, whose service was rather cold and terse overall. Finally she brought the order nearly 10 minutes after everyone else had been served, and blamed the poached, going on about how much trouble they are to make? REALLY? It takes 2-3 minutes to poach an egg, assuming you have a pot of water simmering, which every kitchen should have. If you don't have someone that knows how to poach an egg, just say so. But I guarantee you "The Villa" I used to go to - they could poach an egg and have that order out in minutes. Now to be fair, the food was pretty good, and everyone else in the party liked their food. And it's very cheap. But the service seems cold and the kitchen slow in busy times, and places like that THRIVE on a speedy kitchen. We had the option to go back this weekend, as we parked at the adjacent garage as we usually do for football games. But we opted for the Wayside spread at Alumni Hall, as The Villa seemed busy and we did not want to risk another 60+ minutes waiting for a simple breakfast/lunch. read more

Hit the spot! Friends and I were looking for a low-key place with inexpensive menu, and this place definitely fit the bill. Most of us got breakfast food which brought silence to the table (too busy eating!). I tried the eggplant parmesan sandwich - a tad greasy, but still quite good. I also had the chef salad which was an excellently sized portion. Why does a restaurant have to be constantly stylish with its decor anyways? Why describe the staff as outdated? The Villa isn't one of those pretentious spots "foodies" (I hate that term!) would go. I doubt it'll ever be featured on the Food Network\Travel Network. The decor is typical dated diner -- but it appears fairly clean. It's the type of place you go when you're hungry -- not to have a fine culinary experience. I went for breakfast -- and I was thankful they open at 6:00 AM. I had a western omelet, whole wheat toast, and coffee. The omelet was fairly large and was the type where the "filling" (onions, green peppers, ham) was mixed with the egg instead of stuffed in the omelet. It also came with cheese (my choice was American), which was inside the folded-over omelet. The quantity of the ingredients was about right. It tasted fine, but was unremarkable. The toast was fine, but also unremarkable. The coffee was typical diner (meaning fine, but not great). read more

I'd heard a lot of great things about The Villa so I came in with high expectations. It really is like a classic diner and didn't feel extremely clean, but I think that's supposed to be part of the charm as a local, family-friendly place to eat. My friends and I got an omelette, eggs, sausages, bacon, and chocolate chip pancakes. I really loved the chocolate chip pancakes (always fun), but felt like the omelette was kind of slippery with oil which made it a little hard to eat. My friends' eggs also looked pretty wet with oil and we agreed that some of the things we got we could've made ourselves at home, but that could just be our fault for ordering more ordinary menu items. We just had breakfast at The Villa Diner and couldn't have been more impressed. The service was amazing, the food was absolutely delicious, and we felt extremely safe with the Covid guidelines they had in place. I got a sausage, cheddar, and mushroom omelette which was cooked perfectly and my partner got Eggs Benedict. He's very picky about his Eggs Benedict and was extremely happy with what he got. Standard diner food which at the right time hits the spot. Great breakfast - inexpensive, abundant, and tasty. This is not high class dining here - and that's fine. Waitstaff seems to be quick and on top of things without being overly friendly. I have never had a bad experience here. The over-easy eggs are always spot-on. I've never gotten a cracked or dry yolk (knocking on wood that it doesn't happen now). Biscuits and gravy aren't the best, but luckily there's so much on the menu that it's easy to pass over. read more

Huge snow day before made me in the mood for French Toast the morning after. I usually go to The Nook at the Downtown Mall, but given the road conditions, I thought I would give The Villa try. I am picky about French Toast, but the Villa's French Toast was good, and "The Wahoo Breakfast" was very affordable; came with 3 pieces of bacon (the bacon was thin) 2 scrambled eggs (pretty much standard, run-of-the-mill eggs) and 6 halfs of French toast (3 whole pieces of bread), and I also got a small glass of orange juice, and my total came to a little over $9 before tip, very reasonable. Overall for a quick and cheap breakfast fix, I would go again. read more

People are very nice in the restaurant. Easter Sunday is not a good time to try out a new place. The 40 minute wait for a table was to be expected at eight in the morning. BBut it took 45 minutes after ordering to see any food. Management apologized. One person said the grill wasn't working another person said the kitchen was backed up. Our order came out and bits and pieces eventually. The owner promised us a discount for the service issues since tables after and before us were served much quicker than we were. There was no discount. They were very nice in bringing out parts of our order that they forgot. Coffee was good read more

This is a standard diner for the south. They serve decent food at a decent price. Most of the wait staff are really great, although there are a few surly ladies, but that's what you should expect. They serve breakfast all day. This is a wonderful thing. I highly recommend the pecan pancakes. Everything is cooked on a flat top grill just like it should and comes out piping hot. This is a great spot for kids and groups. Be warned though - it can get crowded on the weekends due to its proximity to campus. And by crowded I mean full to overflowing with families, students, and seniors. But don't worry, it never seems to be that long of a wait. read more
