My family drives from Hampton Bays to eat at The Village Idiot because it is ALWAYS worth the trip! The atmosphere is casual and fun (my grandchildren love the crayons and coloring sheets, as well as, the kids menu. BONUS: kids eat free several days a week, just call and ask for days). We were here this night to celebrate 2 birthdays. The Fried Pickles are awesome, the Fajitas are excellent, best fries ever and fried oreos for desert top it all off! Our waitress this visit was Jackie (absolutely kid friendly), the assistant manager came over to say hello and ask how we were enjoying our visit. This place is great for meeting up with friends, watching sports at the bar with your buds or enjoying dinner with the family and there are lots of specials and the prices are wallet friendly. Stay away... Nasty, Rude, and insulting employees. My grown 23 yr old daughter visiting me from Virginia for the Memorial Day holiday (and I am veteran) was denied entry by a balding 40ish year old bouncer. He manipulated my daughters driver license and questioned its authenticity. Then when she asked him to check under a black light for the state seal he was so rude. Then my daughter offered additional ID and instead he said get out of here. Unbelievable. I am all for checking identification but you cannot simply discount people who are not from NY. Interestingly enough Virginia licenses are enhanced. Moreover with additional ID she should have been allowed entrance. Typical rude Long Island bouncer and I am born raised here. Nice way to welcome people from out of state. At the very least this balding nasty man should have been courteous, but evidently at the Village Idipt they only employ idiots. read more

Went for dinner. Burger was ordered medium rare, came medium and was cold. Cheese was not melted. Bacon on burger was undercooked. Sweet potato fries were good. Also got steak sandwich. Ordered medium rare, came with some pieces cooked medium and cold, some very rare, so much so they couldn't be cut with a regular knife or chewed. The beer on tap was cheap, but unfortunately served flat. On the bright side, the waitstaff was very friendly and helpful and the updated interior is a big improvement. This Review is for the sit down restaurant part, have no experience with the pub. It also MIGHT be out of date, the food could have gotten better. About 6 months ago Went there with friends to order some food. Long story short the food was pretty terrible. The turkey sandwich was literally just piles of some of the worst synthetic "turkey" cold cuts i've ever had. Pretty much inedible. You don't go out to eat to get served cold cuts, especially the stuff that does not even taste like, or resemble the actual meat. The hot pepper pizza appetizer was extremely greasy, over cooked, and I was 90% sure was just a frozen store bought pizza. Tasted exactly like what you can buy in a dollar store. They also put PICKLED PEPPERS onto it. Like literal pickled peppers from a jar full of vinegar right onto the pizza, tasted horrible and overpowering. If you are going to put pickled anything on a dish, please indicate on the menu that they are pickled. So my first time here i saw a side a manager or owner or what ever that i have seen at other bars. Let me start off by saying i was the DD for the night. I was with a group of people and when a spot at the bar opened up a bar tender asked if i wanted anything. I replied no thank you im driving. About a minute later the same bar tender came over and said " my manaher is watching and sees you dont have a drink in your hand and you cant really sit here with out ordering a drink" so i replied " tell him to. Despite the negative reviews I read my husband & I gave it a shot. We went on a Friday date night. First of all the beers were ice cold!!!!! The appetizer buffalo chicken dip OMG-enough for 4 people needless to say we have left overs. Now for the dinners The Groovin Reuben sandwich was amazing the corned beef melted in your mouth. The El Diablo chicken wrap was delicious it had a kick to it though if you like a little spice. The only thing I would recommend is I would order the homemade chips (yum) instead of the fries it comes with, they just looked a little under cooked. Yes, it was crowded and noisy, but I also walked in on a Saturday night in the middle of Labor Day weekend. Regardless, it was only a 15 minute wait for a table of two. I ordered the half-rack of ribs, which came with a side of mac and cheese. It was fantastic. I had been disappointed by bad ribs at another establishment earlier in the week (::coughcoughKelli'scoughcough), so I was praying that these were at least okay. They were really good - the meat was falling-off-the-bone tender, but not tough and the BBQ sauce was a great mix of brown sugar and honey. My ONLY very, very minor note is that I like my BBQ sauce with a little "kick," but that's me. The mac & cheese was really awesome - the cheese sauce didn't run and it had a perfect consistency and flavoring. I'd order that as a meal by itself. Service was great and friendly, even in the middle of a busy hour. I'll definitely come back here again. Want to try the wings next! read more

While seeking a quick, casual dinner on Monday night, our party of 7 which included a child and a wheelchair bound friend, we decided to stop in at the aptly named Village Idiot (we being the idiots who decided to dine there) We sat at the bar for roughly 30 minutes waiting for a table and nursed the only round we were offered. Had we known the south end of the bar existed in a dimension, invisible to others, we might have chosen the north end but hey, live & learn. Once seated, we were privy to a world of neglect that usually requires rope and an underground bunker. This hell we escaped after three and a half hours included flat tap beer, cold cheeseburgers, a shockingly apathetic waitress and LOUD country music. If I could give it a half a star I would. My family & friends however, deserve a medal for not losing their patience or their temper in such a horribly mismanaged establishment. A word to the owners? Word of mouth is quickly sinking your ship. Your only hope would be hiring a new manager who can keep your staff on point or you will be forced to close. This is the first review I've ever written but I was so offended by our treatment, I couldn't help but spread the word. Really a shame. read more

I waited for a while as he served others that got there after me. My friend waved as he walked by to let him know I wanted to order a drink. He turned around with a nasty look and pointed his finger to the rest of the bar as if scolding us for trying to get his attention. It was so rude and obnoxious a gesture that when he finally came back to take my order I told him I didn't need a drink bad enough to tolerate his rude attitude. My friends finished the drinks in front of them and we left immediately, instead of staying for another round. Came here on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't busy at all. Server disappeared for 20 minutes - had to order drinks from someone else. Beer came out warm. Food (fries, soup, burger) came out after 35 mins. Expressed dissatisfaction to the manager and she said she was sorry but everything was "made from scratch" and "it wasn't our servers fault".... When we paid, our server handed our tab off to the bar and we didn't see it again for another ten minutes. Manager told me it had only been five. When service is bad, service is bad. I thought this place was horrible. It was my first (and last time) there. I had gotten my only second drink and handed the bartender a $50 bill, he then handed me back $3. I proceeded to tell him I just handed you a fifty, he responded by saying I didn't and went to register and took out ALL of his twenties and shook them in my face saying no fifties were in there . I spoke with manager. He checked on things, saying a fifty bill was under drawer but could not have been mine and quickly became rude. Bottom line is they took my money and did nothing about it, I definitely had a fifty , I know for a fact and even had my witnesses, this bar stole from me. I've been a few times to VIP to have drinks but never ate there until last night. Used a $20 for $40 Groupon which was a great deal! We ordered the onion ring tower as an app and the rings and sauce they came with were delicious. My husband and son ordered the Texas Burger and they both loved it. I took a bite of my son's and it was very good. I ordered a Marinated Burger with mozz and bacon. Holy deliciousness! I'm already daydreaming about going back and having another. Fries were seasoned perfectly. Beer selection was ok. Wish they had more IPA's. There were only 2 and I didn't care for either. Stuck with what I know and had a Blue Moon Belgian. Our waiter Shawn was awesome! Very attentive, polite and accommodating. The host was a bit of a dud, zero personality and looked confused and uncomfortable but maybe it was his age and lack of experience. Smile and be a little more personable, sweetie. Went to to VI last week during dance recital weekend at The Patchogue Theater. My wife had ordered a wrap to go earlier in the week and raved about it. She suggested I eat there with my 2 youngest. It wasn't overly crowded. Before being seated, it was explained there was a private party at 2 so we would have to be out by 1:30. It was 12:50 so I decided to stay. Ordered our food shortly there after and it did not come out until 1:25. I wanted to close out my tab right before the food came out. The waitress said my food would be right out. Honestly - I was set to be disappointed because of the wait but the food was excellent. I had the chicken sliders and my kids had the mozzarella sticks with fries. Even though we had the long wait, the food was hot. The waitress was very apologetic and I know it wasn't her fault. Would probably give the VI another shot. I was there last night with some old friends for a little get together. We were a group of 6 guys between the ages of 40-50 years old. I asked the hostess if we could get a table for 6. She said it would be a 20 minute even though there were 2, 4 top tables avaible next to each other. I was slightly annoyed but understood a little bit that she was hoping for a 2 person table to open up next to one of the 4 person table so she would still have a 4 person table available . We all just ordered a new drink so we didn't really mind waiting "a little" bit longer since we had a lot of catching up to do. A half hour later no table and no service, things changed! I asked the hostess again and she said it shouldn't be too much longer. I then counted the tables. They now had 5, 4 person tables and 2 booths but we could not sit down for dinner. 7 open tables!!!!!!!!!! I pointed this out to her nicely and was basically blown off and given an attitude. There was nothing she could do. I walked away told the group what happened and no one could believe it. Myself and 1 other guy both have worked in the restaurant business and couldn't belive it, 6 guys wanting to eat dinner and drinks and 7 open tables and the no one could care less. Mind you, it has now been 50 minutes and 9 o'clock at night, 7 open tables and no service so we left. Who and what were they saving the tables for at 9pm. Completely disgusted with the whole entire place. Makes you think twice about how they got their name. The only person I felt bad for was the waitress. She missed out on a real big food and bar bill. Never again will I go here. Save yourself the aggravation and go to the tap room or perrabell's. We went to the tap room and they opened up the 2nd floor for us because there was no room downstairs!!! Imagine that great customer service and a lot better food!!!! Stay away. read more

Very disappointed with the management of their Breakfast with Santa event! My parents made reservations three weeks in advance for them, us, and our two young daughters. When we arrived for our 9:30 reservation, we were led to a small space in the back, completely detached from the event, not able to see Santa or hear the music. Instead, we had a view of the kitchen. Our table was right next to the constantly swinging kitchen doors. Apparently, our early reservation meant nothing, as the manager told us she made the seating arrangements the night before (at midnight). The manager should have been embarrassed to seat a family there for a Breakfast with Santa event. But no, she was defensive and unaccommodating. She made excuses and offered us nothing for this huge disappointment. Our concerns fell on deaf ears, so we left and walked to Flo's. Glad we did as Flo's clearly blows them out of the water with regards to atmosphere and quality of food and drink. read more

I visited this bar / restaurant twice in the last week -- Monday night (slow) and Thursday night. On Monday, I ordered a beer and was then completely ignored by the two bartenders, until my glass was empty. Since I'm not a regular, this treatment is,unfortunately common among local bars. It's a rarity that staff will be friendly and welcoming to newcomers. I called and discussed my experience with a very sympathetic manager. On her assurance that things would be different, I went back Thursday -- a very busy night. I met her there and she even bought my first drink. The bartender, while busy, was friendly and attentive. Now for problem #2: there was a very good singer at the front of the bar. All was well until a guitarist joined her, then the music volume seem to double. I could barely think, let alone conduct business. I couldn't hear a word either the bartender or the person sitting next to me said. This was a serious problem when I received my check. There was a charge that was different from the menu price, but I was completely unable to discuss the problem with the bartender. I had little choice but to pay and leave. Add to this that I had mentioned the music's intensity to the same helpful manager, who merely commented "Yes, it is loud" but did nothing.
