I love bar hopping so much and always down to try to new bars. When it comes down to the nitty gritty I would rather spend my time in Village idiot on any given night or after a night of celebration. The staff is great the girls are very warm and curteous, the men of the staff are charming and witty. Overall I get the sense of warmth from the crowd there too, everyone knows each other and yet your welcome to come join in on there jokes. Enjoy going here everytime I am near patchogue. read more

I really enjoyed the food and the service was very good but when we had a question about the check, there was NO manager there which happens to be illegal in the state of NY if you own a place that serves alcohol. They also put tax on each item and do not add it on at the end, which is also illegal. I had never encountered this anywhere before and found out through a VERY prominant attorney I know that does legal council for restaurants in NY that this was not legal. They must itemize the things you ordered and the price they were and then add the tax on at the end. Hope they change that becuase I really enjoyed the place, but this just turned me off to them BIG TIME! read more

We have gone here a couple of times and it can be a bit of a crap shoot what we encounter. It can be really crowded, bright and unpleasant. Late night it can be a bit of a younger trashy crowd. The food is a bit inconsistent as well. We ordered a cobb salad that was huge pieces of romaine and missing many of the traditional cobb ingredients. The waiter was a bit odd and overbearing as well. I ate at the Village Idiot pub and it was terrible. I was seated immediately; however, a server did not come to our table for at least 10 minutes. No water, no coffee, no eye contact, nothing. There were definitely servers there because I saw them walk past my table numerous times. Once my order was placed, it took about 30 minutes for the food to arrive. After about 20 minutes I asked my server when I could expect my order and he said he was sorry, but the kitchen was backed up. The thing was that a party of 7 or 8 came in after me AND placed their order after I did, yet they were served first. Not sure why that was? I got my food and it was not very good. This is very much a pub type atmosphere, even in the restaurant portion (sticky floors). I will not be going back. read more

Village idiot is appropriately named because the entire wait staff is brainless. Our waitress Tracy I believe was the slowest server I've ever had in my entire life, and it was not even busy. She forgot to come to my table many times. The food took over 40 minutes to make it to my table. And the quality of the food was not even good. The boneless idiot bits tasted like rubber mat and the buffalo sauce does not resemble buffalo sauce it was more like a peppery Italian dressing w hot sauce in it. It was not good. The burger was good and the place was nice. Enjoyed the bar side previous to dinner. Overall out of all the places in patchogue not worth it! Save yourself the aggravation and subpar food. read more

Came here on New Year's Eve with party of 10, had made a reservation a week earlier. Our party had a great time and everyone liked their meal. Our waitress was very accommodating even though she was busy. The burgers looked amazing, I had chicken Milanese wrap and it was light and fresh. Good tap beer variety and the Guinness was poured perfectly. It was a great start to the show on Main Street that night. read more

We love the Idiot so we couldn't wait for the restaurant side to open. We went the other night (4 of us total) and we were beyond disappointed. It took 58 minutes for our food to come out! Then after 3 of our entrees came out my husbands still took another 5-10 minutes. When he finally got it the chicken was beyond dried out from over cooking and my nachos (the top chips) were burnt black and the inside was cold as if it was sitting for a while. This is very dissapointing from a place we love. Hopefully they'll get another Executive Chef that can lower the ticket times because we will not be eating there again until that's all smoothed out. read more

Best breakfast in Patchogue!. I am obsessed with the Eggs Benedict with Crab cakes ( AKA: the Pincher) I order it everytime. The sausage biscuits are delicious as well. They have a variety of bloody mary drinks and the beer selection is fantastic (yes if we go for breakfast at 11:30am, we sometimes get beer! haha). I have only been here for breakfast and I highly recommend it! I don't know a single person who has not enjoyed their breakfast here. I will be back! read more

My finance and I would go here 2x a week when they had the groupon and we thought that for the price it was a great deal, then the groupon was gone and we realized that we LOVE this restaurant, with the new expansion its a great place for a great meal with alot of really cool choices ( we recommend the burgers they are great and not just thrown together) but everything is awesome. Actually came here for my hubs birthday the night of the Rangers playoff game with our son looking for a place to watch the game that would be kid friendly. I had heard it was kid friendly from a co-worker but I was pleasantly surprised at just how kid friendly it was especially since its a bar. I couldn't find a kids menu online but when we sat down the kids menu was right on the coloring paper. Our son got his food right away which is always a good thing for a 2 year old with 0 patience. We ordered the loaded VIP fries which were actually like loaded potatoes sooo good though. I got the sliced steak sandwich. I could drink whatever that steak was marinated in it was so good. Hubs got the groovin rueben which he loved and some Shipyard summer ale which he loved even more. I have to say as we got later into our stay the place was getting pretty busy for the game and while all of the employees were noticeably rushing around to accommodate everyone they seemed to be doing a great job and our waiter was totally on top of it. Ok so, my birthday was a couple of days ago and my friends and I decided to go here for drinks after dinner. To my disbelief and utter disgust, the security guy outside who was checking IDs displayed blatant racial profiling and ignorance to me when I tried to get in (which was already a 5$ cover that night). Just to preface, I am an Asian woman who was adopted by an Irish-Italian family. I had money-in-hand and handed him my ID and he looks at me and asks if I have anything else with my name on it like a credit card. I said no since I only brought cash. I then asked if it was because it he thought the license wasn't real since I don't have the new NY state one to which he said "no I know this is real but I don't think it's you". So I'm in utter shock now and ask "how could it not be me? Because it's an the old license and not the new one?" He says "well now I'm not effing letting you in because your giving me an effing attitude, bye". I didn't understand what could have lead him to believe it wasn't me on my ID. Until my friends said "well it's because your last name doesn't match your face". As I've never been racially profiled before I would never have guessed this to be the case. Especially because I looked exactly like I did in my picture, same hair, etc. But it explains why he said that he knew my ID was real but didn't believe it was me. Because girls with Asian faces should have matching Asian names and with an Irish last name like mine, that ID couldn't have been mine. First of all, a person can have an last name that doesn't match their face for a number or reasons. Marriage, racially diverse family, etc. but this guy obviously didn't think those were options. On top of that, he was rude and I will NEVER try to go back here again and made sure to tell my party of 11 to go to Public House who had no cover charge and very respectful security who I watched ask multiple people to smile like their pictures on the ID to better inform their check. Maybe it's because their security had more of an understanding of surname diversity and did their job correctly based on the integrity of the ID and the picture in comparison to the face in front of them. Which the man did intently at Public House and at VIP the he barely even looked me in the face. Just another instance of ignorance. The security guard I encountered last night at VIP truly was a true representation and embodiment of the bar's name, so at least there's some integrity there. Never again. read more

My daughter and I arrived @12:20 on a Thursday. There was one other table of 2 women besides us. We sat down and had pre-selected our food before we even arrived, as my daughter was on a 1hr lunch. we waited to be seated as the sign instructed but kept getting ignored. finally as we started to walk over to one of the many many empty booths did the server notice our existence . Again, we ordered our ice teas, fried pickles and one order of sliders and one order of healthy Italian wrap before we had actually settled into the booth. we explained our time crunch and since it was essentially empty and not vacillating on our choice of food was an issue we were not concerned about being able to enjoy our meal. Boy, was I wrong, Our food finally came literally 5 minutes before we had to leave and we couldn't eat it together as planned, it went untouched into to go containers. I asked for a manager and finally had to go up to the bar a quite forcefully demand to see one. which, since she would not give me her name, I'm pretty sure she was NOT the manager. To add insult to injury, I had ordered my sliders med-rare. They were incinerated within an inch of their lives. No cow would have wanted to end up that way. No offer of an apology, just excuse after excuse on how it was our fault for because they "make their food to order" well, guess what!? ya don't cause my sliders were $12.00 were of doggie snacks for my bosses puppy. I can't believe the reviews I am reading. This is by far the best bar around. The food is always hot and fresh and amazing. The portions are HUGE! There is deal after deal on beer, apps, wings, pasta night ect. Every night of the week it's something different on special to make it affordable to go out. And no one on here has seemed to mention how much fun this bar is! My friends come from all over to go out to the Idiot on a Saturday night to dance to a fun band they have or a DJ. Any sporting event they make so much fun to watch there. I have done nothing but ever rave about the idiot and bring many MANY people there over the years. No one that I have ever brought there has ever been disappointed either. Yes of course every establishment can have a hiccup or 2 every now and then but they do whatever they can to make up for it with no questions asked. The staff always greets me with a smile and makes me feel at home. I will not go anywhere else whether it's to watch a game, grab a half price app or get drunk and dance all night! I am so disappointed. I would give this no stars if it was an option. I went here with 5 of my girl friends and we were having a fine time. It was crowded but the music was great and the drinks were too. However, some woman in her forties tried to steal my purse and sweater directly in front of me. But we let it go, and it was fine. Then we went to the restroom and on our way out we passed through the restaurant and went to go through the doorway when we got trampled. There were about 7 guys in a full on wrestling brawl, they knocked one of my friends over and she literally was on the floor in a fetal position being trampled. It took 3 girls to pull her off the floor with no help from security and in the process another of my friends was flat out punched in the face all the while being cornered with no way out. After being forced out of the bar, we realized that we couldn't find the one friend who got trampled and when we went to find her the bouncer initially tried to refuse me to go back in, and when we asked him to help us find her his response was literally "no". Once I explained to him what happened which I shouldn't have had to do he said to go get my friend and then get out. The only bouncer that tried to help us at all offered us a free round of shots the next time we came back. Honestly, the conduct of this place was ridiculous and the people there weren't any better. For all the men who were being paid as "security" I did not feel secure at all. This was by far the most violent experience I have ever had at a bar and absolutely nothing was done about it. read more
