When does MILD = HOT? When you order from Village Pizza. Ordered sauced shrimp with mild garlic parm mix and was told it is the same hot sauce I ordered on my wings. Very misleading since the person trying to eat the shrimp can't eat spicy hot food and thought it wouldn't be. Not many choices in town, so I've been a frequent customer for years. I've had multiple issues with incompetent staff making orders wrong for years. They have always been accommodating fixing their mistakes, but enough is enough already. How damn hard is it to make a bowl of pasta with no sauce on it. The food is hit or miss. I'm from NYC and know good food and I have to say, I was quite pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food at The Village Pizzeria. Was looking for something more substantial than slices of pizza, so I asked for suggestions. "The Ghost Dog" was recommended and I can't say how thankful I was to have asked! I would be raving about this sandwich if I ate in in a big city, but to get it in "the country," made my day! Great, courteous service and a clean dining area. Better off going to Subway. Well did the Tuesday night special 2 subs for 10$. Ordered one turkey sub - extra mayo, lettuce, tomato and NO ONION. Other sub was a "Italian" (see picture) basically everything but the main ingredient CAPICOLA. Got home opened it up, turkey sub had pepperoni? The "Italian" sub was very sad looking, one of each meat and without any Italian dressing. Must be since because the deal with the subs - the quality is short changed to keep initial profit margins up, but the point of a special is not to short change your customers. When I visit from Brooklyn, this is the only pizza that reminds me of home. I wouldn't think to order from anywhere else. The owner is assessable, and if your order is messed up, he will fix it. He's good like that. It's worth the drive, the pizza is amazing. The wings are also fantastic. I always ask for them extra crispy. Garlic Parmesan, and I throw some hot sauce on to make it interesting. Don't be fooled, there's a lot of nonsense out there, but this guy is the real deal. Worth every penny. I do love how close and convenient this place is and for the most part the food is decent. I also enjoy most of the staff interactions. However I have had people pound on my door when I don't immediately come to the door as I have a hard to access door which I explain on the driver instructions. I also had someone check the tip I gave them before giving me my food. Along with this almost every time I order something is missing or wrong. I have had drinks I paid for left out. It used to be a good place, I have eaten at the "Village" since it started out down on Main Street in Ravena. The actual owners were there and hands on, then moved up to the little plaza some years back to expand upon their popularity. Over the past several years it has been run by kids and it shows. Food quality has went to pot. Half raw hamburgers, entree meals that used to be GREAT are BLAND now. Pizza is so-so. It has all went greatly downhill. The dining area used to be full of folk.It is almost always empty now, except for a table here or there. I was done with them for good when I bought one of their overpriced $7 hamburgers, being suspicious of past bad experiences, checked out the meat for how raw inside and it was half cooked. Then the 22 year old "manager" copped an attitude too. Guess he felt put off by having to do his job, as opposed to yukking it up with his two front end female staff (read, possible sexual harassment suit for them too). I was STARVING and couldn't find a single other place to eat in this itty bitty town so I pulled up to this pizzeria. I stuck with pizza and asked for it extra hot. Absolutely terrible service. We ordered about quarter to 6, we were told it would be 45 minutes. When it was an hour and a half later we called to see what was going on, only to hear in the background oh tell them another 25 minutes. So 30 minutes later our food finally showed up and they messed the order up. When I called back it took calling three different tries to call before someone answered. We told them the order was wrong and was told oh it'll be another 30 minutes. They never once offered to deduct anything from the bill, and we got a ridiculous "apology". I worked in a small pizza shop before and I've NEVER seen business so atrocious. Have never been able to get through on phone unless I rapid repeat dial at least ten times, despite their having two numbers. Today I called both numbers for 30 minutes and eventually got in the car and drove to it. After getting through, I was on hold five minutes, and I'd already arrived in person! The guy said, "We were slammed!" I saw 6 done pies on top of oven, 3 tables of customers, and one on line. Wow, busy. And am often placed on "hold" for at least five minutes--hold being they just set phone down cause I can here everything in the background. Pizza by the slice is terribly small and terrible in flavor. It's like buying a leftover slice from a college student's refrigerator that was microwaved. Always old. Once in a while, if you order a fresh pie, it's ok. In my most recent (and probably last order), I ordered a large pie that was actually cold by the time I got home. I live 5 minutes away (magnolia circle). The buffalo wings have seriously degraded in quality. While it is not the only place on town, we are very limited to what we can buy in this small town. Ordered New York City style thin and crispy large pizza today supposed to be a white pizza hold the broccoli the ricotta cheese was spread so thin, at least I think there was some on there, if there was you could not taste it. I also ordered cheese ravioli with Alfredo which is good. But I ordered one additional item also and was charged for and did not receive it in my delivery and they had to make a second trip to deliver the additional item. My pizza was so thick and chewy that I am actually unable to chew it. And there is no taste of ricotta cheese whatsoever. Worst tasting pizza I have ever had from their restaurant in the last 12 years. Will never order from them again. Let me preface my review by saying the last 3-4 pizzas we have gotten from village were very good! We are not a family that orders out for pizza very often. Over the past 2 years I would say we have ordered pizza maybe 12 times or so. I would say 6-8 of those times have been from Village. Over the past 6 years or so the quality of pizza we have gotten has been really good sometimes and only ok other times. Last night (on a busy holiday weekend-memorial day) we ordered our pizzas, garlic knots and 2 desserts. Due to some errors with their online ordering system (which I will say was the first time I used it) there were definitely errors! Unfortunately they were all out of garlic knots (because I really had a taste for those! Lol) but they refunded the money for those. A desert was left at the restaurant but they went back and got it for us. My husband liked the Carnivore (meat lovers) pizza he got! But the chicken parm pizza that I picked did not have any ricotta on it that we paid extra to have on it. This was the error that occurred because of the online ordering system. I have been assured that they have contacted the online ordering system though so hopefully mix ups like this won't happen if they can get the kinks worked out. That being said, Maybe I'm used to living in Albany and having chicken parm pizza up there because I've never seen a chicken parm pizza without ricotta already on it lol. So I was really disappointed with the chicken parm pizza, probably because of the fact that I'm used to having it one way and it didn't taste at all the same to me. Also the breading on the chicken felt as if it had been sitting in sauce for a long time and had gone mushy. My kids enjoyed it though! While the pizza left me feeling annoyed and disappointed last night the Xango dessert was amazing! If you don't know what a Xango is, get it!!! I can only eat a couple bites of delicious desserts like this due to diet restrictions but it was one of the most delicious things I've ever had! I would give zero stars if possible. The service and staff here is terrible. After trying numerous times to give it another chance, tonight was the last. Every time I tried to eat in, I would sit at a table for at least 10 minutes until someone came over for a drink order. Tonight, I sat in and was waiting for 15-20 min and nobody came over. Then a man came in and sat at the table behind me. The waitress came over two minutes later with a place mat, silverware, and took his drink order. This was totally disrespectful. How can all 3 of the waitresses walk by and ask how other's food is and not see a placemat or silverware at my table. Another note is that the place is grungy and dirty. If you even get a table it will be dirty and the staff will not clean it. I'm pretty sure tables are supposed to be sanitized before someone is even seated.
