I took my father, who was visiting from the east coast, to Temecula to do something different, as he has seen all the sights of San Diego many times. I chose South Coast Winery as our destination due to the extensive wines available for tasting and the reasonable brunch/lunch prices. I made a reservation via Open Table and requested outdoor seating in the "special requests" box. We were accomodated well with a lovely table on the patio. There were three of us, and we each ordered a different wine-by-the-glass, of which there was an ample variety of reds, whites and sparklings to chose from. For an app we ordered the shrimp and scallop ceviche which was delicious and refreshing. Fresh warm bread and herb butter accompanied the meal. I ordered the Cobb salad (modified with no blue cheese or egg) with grilled chicken- it was delicious- the perfect meal to go with my crisp "California Girl" Sauv Blanc/Muscat blend on a warm day. The guys weren't as thrilled with their entrees. My dad ordered a burger which he said was okay but not great. My boyfriend ordered a pizza with a variety of artisan meats and bacon. He was satisfied but I could tell he thought he should have ordered something else. After lunch we headed to the tasting room. 5 tastes for $15. I was pleased with the huge variety of wines available for tasting (by far the most I've ever seen at a winery) and the three of us were able to choose 5 different wines, meaning we sampled 15 different South Coast wines in total. The tasting room experience was marred a bit by the fact that it was super-crowded, many of whom were trashy and hammered- perhaps South Coast was the last stop on their party bus for the day. Don't get me wrong- I love a good limo bus trip to Temecula- but that day's crowd were particularly bro'd out. All in all, it was a really nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon! read more

My wife and I have been here twice. First time we each tried the prime rib which was very good. The second time my wife had theTruffle Butter Shelton Farms Chicken which she really liked and I had the Roasted Vegetable Papardelle Pomodoro with chicken skewer, it was also excellent. Each time the service was great. For dessert we had the Vanilla Bean Creme Bruleè with Fresh Berries which is one of the best I have ever had. Previous visits (3) had an excellent dining experience. Its been almost 3 years now. Had friends up for dinner last night and decided on South Coast. I have to say, the worst dinner I've ever had to choke down. I ordered the sea bass for $33. Two small overcooked dry pieces of charred fish (I assume it was fish). I couldn't for the life of me tell what else came with the dish. It was a completely dried out plate of garbage. Sad to say Ill never return for the overpriced, tiny portions a garbage they have begun to serve. Beautiful facility, hence the one star rating. read more

We came here with a large group for brunch. We were greeted right away with someone asking us if we would like drinks. It went downhill from there. Our first server said our actual server was on break, no biggie. We ordered five mimosas (I would have loved a bloody mary but they only have wine and beer.) The mimosas took quite awhile to come and when he finally brought them we wanted to order but the server basically told us no that he had to do another round before we could order but he promised he would come right back. My four year old was melting down so I asked him to at least put some pancakes in for him. He hesitated and obviously didn't want to do it so my husband just said don't worry about it. 15-20 minutes went by before a new server came over and said he was back from break. He did let us know that the first server at least put in the pancakes for our son. We were finally able to order. Food took awhile but since we were a big party it was expected. The food was mediocre at best. It wasn't as described in the menu and the chilaquiles was on either somewhat stale tortillas or soggy chips, impossible to tell. The menu isn't very brunchy (yes I made that word up.) I was headed to a nice winery/restaurant expecting a classy brunch, perhaps some crab cake Benedict or something super good. Especially for the prices they were charging we were very disappointed. They cleared all of our plates and we sat for another 15 minutes before the server finally brought over the check. They included gratuity described as a "large party service charge." I'm fine with that except the service was horrible. I'd never go back. read more

After spending a wonderful day in Temecula with family, we took them here for what should have been a wonderful relaxing meal. The sauce on the sweet potato putine was burnt and the calamari was average. We told the waitress and she offered something different but we declined. Dinner arrived and more disappointment. The scallops were over salted and the hand made pasta with a pork sauce was below average. The prime rib was disappointing and the chicken was laced with canned baby corn. The and made pasta was rubbery and the sauce was crumbled sausage and not a sauce with pork reduction as described on the menu. Sadly this restaurant has really gone down hill. I have been coming here for years and will not return at this point. The service was mediocre I could have dealt with that but then the food was so poor that I returned my entire plate and left hungry. The calamari fries were soggy, the chilaquiles was awful. Hello, I would like to share my experience about last night at this particular restaurant. My husband and I are locals and is typical for us to come here for dinner, our experience has always been great from start to end. Unfortunately, last night was the opposite, we were out celebrating an early valentines day (I'm sure we weren't the only ones). The host named Kaila was horrible at greeting, not only did we realize they set us up at the wrong time (which we confirmed prior to arrival), but she didn't apologize on behalf of the restaurant nor did she make eye contact with us when speaking... She gave us attitude for asking to reserve a table for a later time (never did we get upset, as we understand errors happen), when our time was up, she had us wait an additional 30 mins. The rest of the service was great, specially Jose and Shannon. However, please keep in mind the host is one of the most important positions in a restaurant as first impressions will make an impact on ones experience, specially a place like this with such good reputation. Sadly, this will not be my first option when my husband and I think of going out for dinner. read more

My wife and I came here for our tenth anniversary. When I made the reservation, the staff made sure that it would be magical. They helped me arrange for flower delivery. They greeted us by wishing us happy anniversary. The roses were waiting for my wife when we got there! Make reservations because this place fills up fast. But the planning is worth it. Honestly I rarely write reviews but this restaurant deserves the attention! The food was absolutely amazing! I had the Penne Pasta with Shrimp and it was so flavorful! My husband had the tri tip sandwich and the meat was so tender and the sauce in the sandwich was to die for! We definitely will be making a trip back when time allows! Dear South Coast: Are you kidding ? Your restaurant used to be sufficiently average, and reasonably priced. We dined at your establishment tonight, and guess what ? Still sufficiently average, but I believe you have more than doubled your prices ? I have no issues dropping $400 for a party of four, but if I do, it should be as good as Market Del Mar or the best restaurants in San Diego, not to mention "good" restaurants in NY and LA. How dare you ? This used to be a place where Temecula residents could go and have a nice evening, now it is just over the top. Temecula has yet to play host one really great restaurant , for which I would gladly pay top dollar, and in the meantime, I will stick with Ponte, the Public House, and TCI for average food at a reasonable price. Was at Vineyard Rose for our Anniversary Dinner - we had booked the Chef's Table dinner. This dinner is a apecial meal put together by the chef and paired with SC Wines. It was perfect - service was great, the food exceptional. We had one course that I felt the wine pairing was not good, but our waiter got us another option with no problem. We also had breakfast here the next morning. Over all - good food, quick attentive service both at dinner and breakfast - I recommend Vineyard Rose. read more

We are locals that came for breakfast on Monday at 10:00 with reservations. were seated in dining room and watered. That was it for the next 25 minutes as staff simply overlooked us as they tended to outdoor dining. as we were getting up to leave, a server came up and promised us prompt service if we stay. OK, we did. Another server came and gave a lousy 'we aim to please' speech. Ordered eggs overeasy and ham with wine country potatoes. Egg whites were served still half clear and burnt onion bits in the potatoes. Wife got banana foster pancake. This single pancake is no better than IHOP. This restaurant is a lovely place with flowers all around and I have enjoyed dining here in the past but on June 13 I had the most miserable dining experience of the year. At lunch with a visitor from MA we were "served" by a waitress who forgot to smile. We ordered wine and waited 15 minutes for her to return. We ordered our entrees and she seemed to have forgotten we were there before our food arrived over 20 minutes later. Not once did she return to check on us (losing out on an order for another glass of wine). At the end of the meal she did not present the bill but took the credit card I had laid on the table and returned with the calculation. It is tough to write a review such as this since one person can spoil a restaurant experience whereas other times at the restaurant have been pleasant but I won't be going back -- there are too many other options. read more

Sarah, I really hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the Sunday brunch on mothers day was not all I had hoped it would be. The staff was initially perfect, but the atmosphere was not. I was under the impression that our reservation was for an inside table, but when we arrived, we were seated outside. Initially it was quite nice outside, but then the flies showed up, and became relentless in their swarming. Our food was constantly covered in flies, our drinks had unwanted swimmers, and the constant flying into our eyes and landing on us was unbearable. We had mentioned it to your staff, and they said that they would move some fans around, which did not help. At the beginning of our meal we asked to be moved inside, but were met with resistance and not allowed to move tables. Secondly, the bill was a bit steep. We knew the price of the venue prior to making reservations, but the service charge was very extreme for the level of service we received. We had a party of 4 adults and 2 small children (4 years and 3 years), which classified us as a 'large party' and a mandatory gratuity was added. The gratuity and service charge for 2 adults and 1 child was $52 ( we split the check in half 2 adults a 1 child per check), totaling $104 for the table. The gratuity was as much as the price for 2 adults. Why? Our wait staff only retrieved a few drinks, and brought 2 hot dogs from the kitchen. Not really conducive of a 34% tip. Again I asked about it and my concerns were dismissed. I had high hopes for a memorable Sunday, but the service received was lacking and the experience fell short of expectations. All that I can truly remember of my over $400 dollar experience is that South Coast Winery has a major fly problem and the wait staff was indifferent of our concerns. I truly hope that my experience was the exception and not the norm. We have lived in the area for may years and have tried this restaurant many times. At one point, we stopped going because the food was so horrible. We returned a couple of years ago and enjoyed. We we looking forward to enjoying a nice holiday dinner, but was taken aback at how horrible dinner was again. My husband had rubber salmon and I had the most disgusting scallops. We sent back the scallops for a second round and no luck. Looked like something regurgitated on the plate and tasted like it also. Will not return again. High priced, horrible food. read more

This review is more about the staff than the food. We have been here multiple times and never had a bad experience or been treated like that before. We walked in right at eight- they close at nine. There was no hostess at the front so after waiting about 5 min my husband walks over to the bartender who had made eye contact with us multiple times but made no effort to say we will be right with you or acknowledge us other than give us the once over. The bartender ignores my husband as he leisurely makes small talk with some guy that was obviously trying to leave but was being kept there by the bartenders chatter. My husband said something along the lines of finally!! Once he gave my husband his attention and the bartender acted like he had no clue what he was talking about and started to give him attitude. The hostess finally comes over to seat us with major attitude and leaves us huffing off as if we were invading/interrupting her night. A very very nice man came over to get our drink order bring bread and even brought regular Butter for the kids because they might not like the infused one and told us our waiter would be over shortly. We wait about 20 minutes before the same gentleman came back and asked us if anyone had helped us we said no so he kindly goes to find our waiter. Again she came over as if we were a bother and she didn't know why she had to deal with us had an attitude from the beginning and throughout the meal. Through the tinted glass in the kitchen I could see what looked like the manager multiple waiters and the hostess standing there chatting for most of our time there. We only tipped 18% because of the kind gentleman who initially took our drink order and who checked on us throughout our meal more than our own waiter did and a really nice blonde lady who came to gather the dishes and chatted with us about her two kids as we had our 4 and 3 year old with us who were very well behaved and quite the whole time. My wife and I stayed this past weekend. We had spa treatments, wine tasting a balloon ride, brunch, happy hour and dinner. Let me start by saying the property and vevue is everything you would expect when visiting the country. The guest service with Julie at the hotel, Camilia from the spa, Julio and Thomas at brunch, Linda? at the tasting room and Mike during Dinner were all very nice outgoing and knowledgeable. Our balloon ride really set the bar high, the Wine tasting enviroment was very enjoyable and featured live entertainment. The spa treatment and ambiance was to die for and our visits to the Vine Rose were surprisingly GREAT! Julio was on point with his suggestions of croquet madame and omlet. Thomas was was very engaging and was also spot on with the pork chop suggestion and dinner reservation. Mike was very attentive and really made my wife's night by convincing her that the sea bass was a can't miss item. The sunrise from our villa patio with morning coffee really was a nice send off. We live locally and have eaten here many times over the years: breakfast, lunch and special dinners. Brunch today was disappointing as the restaurant seems to be understaffed. Though there were lots of empty tables inside and out, we waited 15 minutes to be seated (as did others). The kitchen apparently could not handle the limited tables being served as we waited 30 minutes more for our egg dishes. The waiter was very apologetic but the problem was not of his making. Apparently there is new management running the restaurant and not enough staff are on duty to handle weekend customers. This does not bode well for a Christmas meal already booked there! read more

I celebrated my birthday this past Saturday at Vineyard Rose for brunch and it was awesome. I had been in contact with the event manager, Sarah prior to the occasion because we had a large party of 18. Sarah was thorough in her communications and incredibly helpful. She helped me secure a reservation, created a custom menu, and even called to make sure everything was ok as we were late due to heavy traffic from Long Beach. Despite being over an hour late, the restaurant was able to hold our reservation and the hostess and waiters were so friendly when we arrived. Our waiter provided great service and the food came out fast. Our party had the grilled cheese sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, rancheros burrito, and country scramble with black pepper biscuit. While I didn't personally get to try all of them, no one had any complaints and we thought it was priced very well. After reading quite a few food reviews, I would have to agree that the Vineyard Rose needs a chef rehab. The food was salty, tasteless and dimensionless. We won't be back. Attended the highly overpriced New Years event at So Coast Vineyard Rose Restaurant last night. Extremely disappointed from the beginning. Upon trying to book the NYE event from Dec 1st 3 phone calls later and the web page updated finally Dec 11th I was able to secure a reservation. The placement of seating at $240. Per person They wanted to seat our group directly looking at the kitchen. I know in some restaurant to be seated in the kitchen is an dining experience but not over looking through glass the stressed out staff on New Year's Eve. They did accommodate us and move us closer to the band. The front door was left open for majority of the evening hoping to entice more people as this was not a sold out event, we were forced to wear our coats. No party favors offered we were told the room was suppose to be decorated it would be amazing. I've been a resident here 25 years I have been in the restaurant many times and this was not enhanced for a black tie affair. two star portraits were the room decor and a single flower on each table. With two flower arrangements we pasted as you were seated. There were no discounts to the evening for wine club members. And to add insult to the outrageous price. If you were staying in the hotel the same menu 5 course special meal was offered at $89.00 per person for in room dining. The food was very good and our server Mike was on his game he did a great job. We tipped him well. If it weren't for the company of which we had a wonderful fun table with dear friends. I've been once before for dinner and the service, ambiance and food were all top notch. This is what brought me to make reservations and take my Mom for their Mother's Day Brunch which was exquisite. The servers were extremely attentive and the food was amazing. Banana Fosters Pancakes were to die for. The crab claws were phenomenal. And the Prime Rib was just as good at brunch as it was when I had the full cut for dinner. Definitely was a very special Mother's Day for my mom. Kudos to the team at the Vineyard Rose Restaurant. After reading some of the reviews here before heading to Temecula, I was skeptical about even having breakfast at VRR. However, it only took a free coupon for a banana pancake to convince me. All kidding aside, this place was much better than what I expected. I had the egg white omelette with spinach, mushrooms and ricotta (?!) cheese. Note to chefs: PLEASE consider replacing the ricotta with goat or even feta cheese. Despite my ambivalence toward ricotta and eggs, I enjoyed the sizable omelette for the most part. It also came with hash browns and a blueberry cobbler side. Had I known these items were included (the menu makes no reference to them and leads you to believe that all sides are extra), I would have simply asked for a dry toast substitute. Instead, I ordered toast on the side, ate it, and decided to forgo the other accompaniments. The bf had the breakfast burrito and most of the banana pancake. I had a bite and that was enough to satisfy my sweet tooth for a month! Total for breakfast was about 25.00 w/o tip. I figured that's average 'round these parts. read more

Tried this last week and was very disappointed. We ordered the supposedly roasted cauliflower and asparagus as an appetizer and it was delivered to us somewhat soggy and very bland tasting, with an unexpected breaded coating on the asparagus which was not much better than something served from an Applebees. The balsamic sauce used on the cauliflower was neither inspiring nor tasty. The Calamari was somewhat the same. They tasted like frozen rubber morsels from same provider as a Red Lobster chain. The scallops ordered were dusted with cumin as stated on the menu and were to be fair tasty enough but again not very inspiring in either taste nor presentation. In short this place has a great feel and look to it but is charging prices that are akin to a high level chef and restaurant experience, neither of which it succeeds at. Dinner for two with wine was over $185. Not worth it in any respect. Table service was adequate and friendly but not greatly knowledgeable about wines and food choices. Some management and chef adjustments would make this place a winner but for now, meh. read more

The restaurant deserves no more than one star. In plain words, awful and overpriced. The service was slower than molasses in winter. I had the lamb chops that were so fatty that it was more like eating a rare food item to find the meat. The accompanying string beans were limp and taste burned. As for the potato croquettes, I had the same at McDonald's for breakfast. The saving grace for South Coast Winery is proximity to Pechanga Casino. read more
