Ambiance: 10 stars. Nice music, geese outside, pets allowed inside, decor is very homey, love the entire ambiance, the antiques, candles, fireplace. Service: Very nice wait staff, seated and chose wherever we wanted. Food: 5 stars. Eggs over easy, fresh made jam and biscuits, big fan.

    The fried chicken dinner. Epic.

I live almost two hours from here but every six months or so, I make the trek to order the fried chicken dinner. It is amazing! The chicken is cooked and seasoned perfectly. The mashed potatoes and gravy are so delish. I don't even like collard greens, but I love these. The bonus star of this show though is the biscuit with jam which is hands down the lightest, and flakiness, most delicious biscuit in all the land. I like it better than Puyallup Fair scones! The decor, ambiance, and service here are wonderful. They have resident pets you can hang out with too. I don't drink alcohol but they have great choices. Eventually, I'll try something else on the menu (maybe). This is the only restaurant where I get the same thing every time. I normally get a new dish when I go places. But this meal is that good. Go try it!

Spectacular food in a funky, fun and historic environment. This is now a must stop for my friends and me if we are anywhere in the vicinity. Great staff for servers, bar and kitchen. They handled our table of 10 really well. Drinks were creative, pretty and delicious. We shared starters and salads and enjoyed them all. Fried oysters, fried green tomatoes and forrester's toast were all delicious. The mushrooms and sauce on that toast is one of the best things I've eaten on a long time. We loved the arugula salad. Beautifully presented and the flavors shined - pine nuts, parm, and truffle. The sorghum salad was both a surprise and comforting. Such an interesting salad! Everyone loved their entrées. I had the Fried chicken. Some of the best I've had. But almost overshadowed by that biscuit. I'm going to dream about that biscuit. Loved the mashed with pan gravy and collars as well. Others had shrimp and grits, pork chop, and rock fish. Everyone raved. Frankly, I don't think you can go wrong here. A memorable meal that I'd be happy to enjoy weekly.

    lovely guest chef menu

Guest chef dinners: Ours was odd. Advertised as 4 to 8 pm but in reality was 6 to 9:30 pm. Food: almost entirely amazing. With a multi course set menu, not everything will be your favorite, but it was all inventive and super fresh, plus locally sourced. Communication could have been vastly improved: When will service begin? Where do you sit? When are you seated? If you paid for a full flight of wines, how do you get a glass?? Things like that...no problems of substance. Entire experience would have been greatly enhanced knowing what to expect. Local oysters and house made pasta with shellfish and nettles were incredible highlights. So sorry our designated driver had to wait so long to take us on a late Sunday night drive home. When you pay top dollar for an experience, communication would be greatly appreciated.

What an amazing find, not just the restaurant but the inn that embraces this magnificent establishment - an eclectic, historic, uniquely decorated and truly comfortable location that features quaint grounds, locally sourced offerings and just the right "service approach". We loved everything about our first visit from the pork chops to the egg dishes, from the coffee to the scones and from the music to the welcoming our dog received as she was welcomed all over the property!!! We truly appreciated our server and look forward to our next visit!

Had a wonderful first dinner experience here. The food was scrumptious. Gus, the house dog came and hung out with us for a bit. Service could use a touch of refinement but otherwise great (starters came out with entrees, had to request second round of drinks, boxes at end, check after long wait). We hit up the pastry case many more times during our stay.

This place was awesome. Didn't plan to come here, quite literally wandered into The Wandering Goose on our way down the coast. Everything was exceptional.

Once seated ("I'll seat you here, because the table is the only clean one") in a pub atmosphere that only had 3 tables with patrons in the establishment. It was NOT busy. Ordered 2 coffees and a diet coke. Had to remind her twice before getting it delivered. Ordering a simple breakfast, a sausage and cheese omelet and chicken fried steak. The toast on the plates were hard yet not overly toasted. The gravy and the potatoes were the best part of all 3 meals. Let me say, the omelet was smaller than the toast in comparison. The waitress abandoned ship and slid off the radar... we had to ask another matey to refill the coffee and he did so very promptly! He was the better part of the experience. Nothing better than a "local chain" breakfast stop. Stick to mom and pops place or cross the street for a Taco!

We were hungry, so we didn't think about wanting to travel to Aberdeen for breakfast. We were desperate for food, so we decided to sit down. Needless to say, we had to wait like 1+ hour for our orders of breakfast. I literally had to skip on my biscuit/gravy order due to staffing issue and time constraint. The server was very polite, but we just could not get past the whole 1+ hour of waiting for breakfast. The food was ok. We won't come back.

Appearances are not deceiving, that's all that there is. Plus, without the "wall o liquor" behind the bar, they are not going to make you "that cocktail you had once in the Bahamas" or even a whisky sour. Their boundaries are much tighter than that. But what they can do within those boundaries! They have charted a course through the heritage of the region, the Scandinavian taste for Akavit, and a flair for adventurous tastes and subtle flavors. And, every cocktail on the menu, has a story that goes with it! I can only speak to the two we ordered (this was a nightcap, not a bender) but they were clever, tasty, wholly unique in my experience, and not crazy expensive ($15 and $16). Apparently, a reported haunting and paranormal investigation led to the creation of "The Veil is Thin" described in the menu as a "Spicy Experimental Margarita." I am a lover of the things that come from the blessed Agave, so this is what I ordered. It arrives an the glass in the picture with a shot glass of fresh squeezed lime juice alongside. This is for the "magic trick" that takes place when you pour the lime into the glass. I won't spoil it for you, but it's not the dumbest trick I've ever seen, it works as a part of the experience. The ingredients are, now follow along in your hymnals children, house infused red cabbage tequila (!), Combier, fresh lime juice, Hell Fire bitters, dragon fruit garnish (not present in mine), black lava salt, white pepper and rose petal rim. It was spicy (especially in the aftertaste), sweet, with the heat of the white pepper and black salt on the rim. On top of that, it was a good Margarita to boot. It was an excellent cocktail and a nice, fresh take on a classic. The prohibition history of the area leads us to the Long Beach Iced Tea. With Vodka, Rum and sweet vermouth, you've got the basics, but then you elevate that with fresh lemon juice, house infused Earl Grey simple syrup, soda and then, of all things a garnish of fresh (bruised) thyme and it becomes something entirely different. You're not going to get hammered, which is what I expect from the Long Island version, but you are also not going to miss the aroma of the thyme making the drink that much better. The floral bergamot from the tea syrup takes you in a different direction and the fizz keeps the aroma flowing out of the glass. It's delicious, subtle, and worth repeating. They can accommodate larger parties by just expanding into the Broder Strand dining room, which is what happened when a boisterous group of celebrating women came in looking for a new stop on their bar tour. One of them even requested a custom drink and was, by all reports, delighted with the results. We have one more night, and I don't think we'll miss having another nightcap here. You should definitely check it out!
