Made a stop in to The Wandering Tortoise after a friend recommended it to me on a day out on the town and I'm so glad he did. Such a big and fun taproom. The Wandering Tortoise focuses mainly on craft beers, 22 rotating on tape. They have also added 10 wines and a variety of meads. So there is just about something for everyone. They have a huge wrap around bar with plenty of seating inside and outside. The service was great. I had a few questions about their sours our bartender let me sample a few and gave me some information on them. He helped me pick out the perfect one. Indoor and outdoor seating at this pub. I thought the beer list was a little short compared to other places we've been. They only had one or two ciders to choose from, and a list of meads. First review I've ever felt I had to write. I've always loved coming to wandering tortoise, so much so, that when my friend group recently lost one of our own, I suggested wandering tortoise as the place to gather. We all met on monday night, 4/14, and things on our end were emotional (again we had just lost a best friend). This is where the negative review comes in and why I will never give wandering tortoise my business again. Sheldon, the bar manager, thought he was better than everyone. When my best friends wife was overcome with emotion of seeing friends again, he decided it was imperative that he step in and belittle her and tell her that she's too emotional to continue drinking, cutting her off for the night; we had just shown up and everyone was on their first beer. When another friend went to the restroom and asked her to hold his beer, Sheldon again thought it was again very important for him to step in and belittle her, telling her that he had already cut her off and took the beer. We all were in such a shock that it took everyone a minute or two to even register what he had just done. One of our members said, maybe he just didn't understand so he went over to Sheldon to tell him about our current situation. Sheldon could not care less and stuck to his guns, continued on his same path of her being an emotional wreck. I'm sorry, but a place that has such a terrible manager does not deserve our business or to continue operating. read more

I absolutely love WT! This isn't super close to where we live but it's somewhere we'll meet friends for drinks any day of the week and it's always busy! Not so incredibly busy that you can't find a seat at the bar or a table to sit at, but there are always people there. They have an amazing selection of beers, meads, cold brew and other non-alcoholic drinks. I am a fruity sour fan and they've always got something interesting that I end up loving. You can also order in multiple different sizes, down to a 4-8oz pour. They sell cans you can purchase and drink there or of course you can take them home. While they don't serve food, they have an awesome food truck residency right now - check it out on their Insta! The food was awesome! You can also bring food, or order delivery to the bar! Came out for some sour beers. I had 3 different sours which were all amazing. The service is great. The servers were both down to Earth and helpful/knowledgeable. The music is old school funk and hip hop which to me is timeless and fits any occasion. I noticed the bartenders were cleaning everything in site and or working on updating the menu. No kitchen for food so if you're hungry, there's a food truck outside but a lot of stuff sells out super fast and you'll have to wait 45 minutes to an hour for food. Parking is tight too. This is a great little neighborhood tap room. Delicious selection of beer, wine and even some mead. Love the $5 frose on Sunday. They have a cooler as well, so you can snag some beer or wine to take home or they charge a small corking fee to drink there. One word; Mead. Okay two words; Superstition Meadery. I love this place because not only is it a dog friendly, relaxed environment, but they actually carry Blueberry Spaceship Mead on tap. The only other place I could ever get that was in Prescott, AZ. They have a nice selection of meads from Superstition Meadery for sale as well at prices better than Total Wine. The bartenders are always knowledgeable about beer, friendly, and sometimes I even get a little more than 8oz in my mead glass. My husband loves beer and their selection is great for his tastes, and the mead suits me perfectly! It's a nice alternative for ladies or those who aren't crazy about beer like myself. We always find ourselves coming back to Wandering Tortoise- they're open until 2am unlike a lot of the local craft beer bars. read more

The Wandering Tortoise is a lot of fun, and it has a very chill vibe compared to a lot of the bars in the area, more of an alternative feel. It's a tap house, so all craft beers and a pretty good selection of cans in the cooler. Drafts are expensive, the cheapest is $6.50, most are $7-8, but they're all $2 off during happy hour which runs until 7:30. The staff is always super nice. It's all very clean, including the bathrooms. They don't have food, but there's usually a pizza or Mexican food truck outside. They only have a couple of TVs, it's not really a sports bar so not the best place to watch a game. Also very, very limited parking. All in all though a very good spot. $5 frozen Rose's on Sunday, which my wife loves! read more

After getting out of a show down the road, I wasn't ready for my night to end. Good beer down within walking distance led me here, to a loud room of beer snobs (like me), even louder rap music (no complaints), and fun conversations all around. It's a tap room that's got some hard-to-find selections that skew toward high ABV. With 20 taps and a cool rotating bottle/can selection, their menu is incredibly modest for the size of the establishment. On the contrary, it appears well-curated in a manner that allows little to no overlap between themselves and competitors. That takes a lot of research and I appreciate it. It's just that this isn't 2012 now, and I'm just not getting impressed the same way I used to. With every block east of Central housing a craft beer watering hole, I am so accustomed to all the bells and whistles. Smaller establishments have larger bottle selections and the same, if not superior access to food from local businesses and mobile operations. Establishments this size (and even smaller) prepare their own bites. Or they have games. Or they have DJs. Or they have some semblance of fun. At the end of the day, Wandering Tortoise is just incredibly basic in a way I am used to from small-time brewers. But it's not a brewery. I don't hate this place. I don't want to come across as bashing it. If I lived within walking distance, I'd defend it endlessly. I'll return to get some rare/special edition pints. Waited way too long to visit this establishment for the first time. I was fortunate enough to to be there for their collabo w/ Tripping Animals Brewery. The beer selection was phenomenal, both on tap and in the fridge. Music selection was on point. I had a bomb burrito from the Sink or Swim food truck.
