I pass by The 1227 Taproom every day on my way to work. So, I thought to myself, it's time for a pit stop. I stopped by on a Friday around 5:30 to catch the tail end of happy hour (which ends at 6). They're located in a busy shopping center with a bunch of other businesses but you'll find a free spot. Ambiance (3.5/5): Pretty much your typical neighborhood beer bar. Casual and welcoming. There's a long bar at one end with some seats at the bar. Plus some high tops. And a few comfortable couches. They have live music sometimes too. A band was setting up right when I was leaving so I didn't get to catch them. Nice touch though. And they have a small patio as well. Outside of that, they have board games and two pinball machines. Chill spot to down some brews. Service (3.5/5): You order at the end of the bar. Service was pretty efficient. Not terribly friendly, but not bad. This seems like the type of spot that has a lot of regulars. Which does say something important about the service. Food (N/A): I was on a liquid diet so no food on this visit. I did notice they have a limited food menu. Pizza for the most part. Drinks (4/5): Mostly a beer bar, though they also have some wine, mead, and ciders. 20 or so beers on tap. And we're not talking things like Bud Light or Dos Equis. Interesting beers. Craft beers. Some local and some not. And if you'd like to take beers home with you, they have 100 beers or so in a fridge that you can purchase to-go. All appealing to a beer nerd like me. read more

I've been to this place a few times before, and have always had an awesome time! This evening, they had live music going, but they also do comedy night once a month which is always a great time! The bartenders working are always really great, and they always have an awesome selection of beer on tap. They also offer beer to go or canned options, if nothing looks good on tap. The canned beer selection is always really good, stocked with rare and not your usual grocery store beers. They also offer food here, pizza etc. I will continue to come here and recommend this place to everyone! read more

Such a great cozy bar! They had a solid variety on tap and in the fridge that allowed everyone in our group to find something they liked! We happened upon comedy night and had a blast! The food truck next door was also very tasty and were so sweet chatting with us and bringing samples around. The patio was pretty spacious for the size of the bar and allowed dogs! We were able to bring our little dog and enjoy the patio space while the weather was still cool enough! read more

Stopped in for Fonzy's Taco and ate here sipping a very nice beer. They have a great bottle selection, light selection for Hefeweizen but what they had was quality. If I lived in PHX, I'd frequent this taproom, friendly peeps, nice environment and right next door to Fonzy's Tacos... Booya! read more

My friends and I went here for comedy night and it was such a vibe. We got there early so that we could grab a seat. The bar has some snacks but you are able to bring in your own food from the other restaurants in the strip mall. They have large garage windows so they can open up the patio area which was lovely due to the weather. They have a giant menu posted on the wall that lets you know what's on tap. My boyfriend and I got the mead flight which came in test tubes. We got to go to the fridge and pick out four of them. Then I finished off the night with a blueberry cider and a Frose. Avoid this place on first and third Wednesdays a herd of low talented amateur musicians fill the place and have band practice. They can barely carry a tune. Not sure why they bar tolerates them, all of the customers paid their tab and left when they got going read more

Not a drop of pretense! The 1227 Taproom is a perfect, chill spot to have a beer you've never heard of. The service (shout out to Peter!) is super friendly and patient. They are very helpful and don't even bat an eye, if you takes you a while to pick one of their hundreds of craft/specialty beers. They also have wine, mead, slushies (!), and NA options for the non-beer drinkers. We began coming here because our favorite food truck is next door, Fonzy's Tacos. It's perfect for a drop in with a meal from Fonzy's paired with a cold refreshing beer or five. It's really a neighborhood gem. read more

I love this place. Great selection of craft beers on draft, and in to go cans. This small, cute place has a great indoor open feel with small out front patio. I love their live entertainment, though sometimes I find it too loud! The service is great! Don't come here for the food! But, most days they have a pretty decent food truck out front! I visited Irene's early in the night and while the owner was about to close shop, he let me enjoy a few beers while he did his closing duties. That already made my night! Any establishment that puts their customers first and goes out of the way to accommodate is a A+ grade in my book. They have an extensive list of Beer & Cider on-tap as well as Wine Pours by the Glass. If you are into trying a wide spectrum of beers, they offer half pours to please your palate. I enjoyed a Sour Beer, Pastry Porter, and Cider during my visit which all were exemplary. I also took away a Candy Cane Stout from their To-Go Refrigerator. You can pick any of their cans and/or bottles from the fridge and enjoy in their establishment or back at home (No Roadies in the state of AZ :). I will proudly support this Beer Beer and look forward to catching live music on my next visit! read more

Fun place! They had dough riders here and live music tonight. It was extremely loud but fun! I like mead but don't know too many places that carry it, so I was excited to have it here! I had a blackberry mead and a honey mead. They were both really good! My husband had 2 IPAs and enjoyed them both. The crowd was definitely a little older, my husband and I are in our 30s and we were the youngest people there. It was cool though! I love cider corps and I'm glad there's a place that sells their stuff closer to me now! We will definitely be back here! read more

Love this place. However, the food truck people that recently parked next door are ruining the atmosphere. On more than one occasion, I've been enjoying a beer and have been distracted by the loud husband and wife. I've witnessed them listening to loud videos and loud speaker phone calls. Also, it seems like they are drinking before they work and walking over open beers to their food truck. Health codes issues anyone? read more

This place is a gem. Really really good tap list and fridge stock. I was amazed by some of the beers that they were able to pull in from out of state. The taproom itself is clean and hip. Plenty of seating. The owner was a really nice guy. On certain nights they have food trucks park out front. There was a birria taco truck when I was there that had amazing tacos. I wish I lived closer to this place. I would be here often. read more

This is my favorite place to grab a delicious craft brew. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. And it really doesn't hurt that I need to grab my own water. I came here for a brew anyway, not a glass of water. Not only is the staff great, the owner(s) are great people to chat with. Very hospitable. The tap list is HUGE and they always have a big selection of cans to-go. Good stuff on the TV's too, especially when the football games are on. I love this place. Recently went here for comedy night and the vibe was AMAZING! Small, but intimate and still a great vibe for everyone. Crowd was friendly, wine was great and it was such a chill, cool space to hangout, drink and have a lot of laughs. The vibe in there is like you step in a place and feel like you are not in AZ anymore lol, played all my faves in music (beastie boys haha) and the bathrooms were so cool with the sliding door. First time visiting 1227 Taproom last night. The Effects were playing and that alone was worth the visit. The atmosphere is good, it's clean and friendly and bright (maybe a tiny bit too bright for a bar). I had the Amendment 21 beer on tap and it was very very good. I've seen in other reviews that sometimes there are food trucks there and that would have been nice, but 1227 Taproom was cool with people bringing in a nosh from other places. All in all, a great night with great music and a very comfortable atmosphere. For the ADA folks, it would be nice if there was one table that's not bar height for those of us in wheelchairs - but that wouldn't stop me from going back. read more

tried to address this on Irene's website but my system recognized it as totally insecure. sooo. We've loved the vibe , the neighborhood, most staff on our stops at Irene's. Unfortunately something that has dimmed our visits (and makes it a consideration on whether or not to stop in) on several occasions are smokers (cigar and cigarette)/ vapers hanging out right outside the doors or just off to the side where one has to walk thru them. It's nice having the garage type doors open but that allows them to affect the inside even more. We and many others have appreciated the change in laws regarding smokers and vapers. Our hope is the staff becomes more vigilant in moving smokers and vapers at least the required distance away. read more

Been here twice and really enjoy the vibe and friendly confines!! Bonnie is great on suggesting a drank!! They have a good selection of beer on draft and in cooler as well as wine. Bar has great seating capacity. There are many tables as well. This will be a regular stop on the way home from work. read more

Favorite beer bar - BY FAR! This is what a 30-somethings beer bar should be (never thought I'd be so proud to be in my 30s....). No stupid kids games, no smell of sex everywhere, just delicious beers in a very friendly (re: unpretentious) setting. I can always find something I know I like to drink on tap, but often times I try new items as the taps rotate often. Went to this little spot cause they had the Cousin's Lobster Truck. Not a bad little spot. Quite an unassuming. They have a decent selection of beers. Prices are on point. No $8 dollar drinks!! Tucked into a nondescript strip mall just off Northern this taphouse would be easy to miss. It's a nice tidy space inside however, with a pretty large bar and some additional tables. They have a good selection of beers on tap and wine as well. They also have a cooler on the far wall with cans of beer to go. As others have indicated, the vibe is laid back and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They don't serve food, but will have a food truck outside certain days and food can be ordered in from a couple of nearby restaurants. Live music on Wed, Thur, and Fridays around 6:00. Happy hour 3:00 to 7:00 Monday thru Fri. 2:00 to 4:00 on the weekend. $1 off 16 oz pours. Eager to go back on a night with music and maybe order in food some night.
