This store was so cute and full of tons of unique treasures. They had a collection of beautiful turquoise jewelry. I picked up a ring and two pairs of earrings. There was other unique jewelry too and I even found a gift for my mom. I also purchased a long sleeve shirt and a sweatshirt. They had a bunch of different novelty stuff too. I'm a big Harry Potter fan and there was a whole Harry Potter section. Really cool card decks for each Hogwarts house. I wanted all four but only picked up the Ravenclaw one for now. There was a little bit of everything and I probably spent an hour just looking around. Honestly, I could have spent a couple more hours in here. The staff was very friendly and the checkout process was smooth and fast. I'll definitely be back here whenever I'm back in Julian. read more

Such a fun and dynamic scene. First you walk in and think it's a quaint and small gift shop, then you walk in and if the store goes for days. There are gifts for any liking and trend from home goods, the kitchen, seasonal decor to things for your garden. Only thing is it can get crowded and you'll bump in to people trying to get into each section. Other than that there's more than enough treasures to find. First time going to Julian. I was really exciting coming into this store. The merchandise was amazing. They had all sorts of cute things from jewelry to coffee cups. Definitely things we would hope to find in such a beautiful place like Julian. The only down side is that as I was checking out and purchasing some jewelry I asked a question about the material of a ring I was purchasing and the lady ringing me up was very rude and not friendly at all. It was okay if she didn't know but the attitude she had was very mean. The cashiers have the responsibility of making your last impression of their stores a great one. What an interesting collection of kitschy stuff! There's a little bit of everything here. I had just wandered, but found myself enraptured by the vast selection of textiles. I nearly bought some place mats for my table, but couldn't decide on which ones to get (so sadly didn't buy any). I did however buy some Crabtree & Evelyn products (which were on sale and I had no idea, so what a pleasant surprise at check out!). Nice to find high-end stuff in little out-of-the-way places at affordable prices. The staff were all very kind and pleasant. They knew their products and knew exactly where to find them and how to get to them. Very handy for a person who knows what they're looking for, just not WHERE to find it in the store! I suspect that another user got back what she offered in kind. In other words, you get out of people what you put into them...be nice, they'll be nice in return! (and for those who wondered, there is a large-ish sign affixed to the counter very clearly stating that all credit card purchases require a $10 minimum). Do shop here, bring some patience because there is a LOT to peruse, and be happy that in this economic climate there are still places that carry a little bit of everything - including nostalgia - at reasonable rates. read more

The Warm Hearth is a place to buy knick knacks, trinkets and antiques. I went to Julian two years ago and they store seemed much better (cleaner, more selections) then. They really isn't a whole lot to do in Julian so if you like to browse the stores this will be included in your stop. read more

Wow o wow what a thrill this place is! The place has something for everybody and goes on and on. We had a great time and I kept thinking it is so great they could charge admission as I was entertained by such diverse merchandise. We were in there for 90 plus minutes and could have kept going but they were closing for the day. Be sure to go to the very back and down the stairs so much more than meets the eye. read more

I was a little concerned because of all the bad reviews for this place, but I think they're outdated. I went in to the Warm Hearth and the employees were incredibly kind, offering me advice on where to go in Julian, what hikes to take and where to get the best pie (next door). The new manager (the old manager's son) is really trying to update the place. Its definitely a store for knick knacks and various oddities of Julian, but its got charm and everything you might never think to want. read more

Usually we have a pleasant experience but today we had two very rude ladies. A very pregnant girl was huffy that my 9 year old wasn't walking fast enough and rudely nudged passed her. I tried to tell the cashier about it and she was rude saying the lady was just hot. I understand the heat, and it was very hot in there but that doesn't justify rudeness from either of them. Super cute store that is much larger than it looks! In the front are some local specialties, including preserves and some natural and in the back are more toys and trinkets and home decor items. There's a huge storeroom in the back that is definitely worth a visit. read more

SPOILERS (might be fun to find these things out yourself) It's just awesome, plain and simple. This is hands down my favorite shop in Julian. It's so big inside, and if you think you've seen it all, keep going back and it's like walking through the Wardrobe of Narnia; there's a whole other world back there (looking at the front of the Warm Hearth, you'd never expect it and are like, "what the heck?")! When I first went here my mouth dropped at the awing experience of the hidden room and treasures. Things are a bit on the expensive side, but hey, your in Julian so it's something that should be expected. I've taken family and friends here, and they've all been just as enchanted with it as I was. And oh, they have a tiny quilting shop up the stairs, in the left corner of the main building (not a big selection, but cute!). read more

Really lovely store so disappointed to see a rack with socks in the front with every swear word imaginable. Called "blue Q socks" This is a family friendly town where adults and children alike frequent all the stores and this display besides being vulgar and tasteless is right up front for every child who enters to read. You don't need it? They've probably got it. Loads of cool items for the home. One alcove full of leather clothing, like hats, vests, coats. Candles and more candles. This is a step up, so does that count as another level? Like others say, there are at least three levels. The main level. Then walk back to a lower level. And the upstairs has loads of quilts. Don't forget to go to the back, lower level, on the right. Another alcove with clearance items. That's the deal. When we were there they had a extra long table, with extra long bench seats. Very rustic and rough cut, but also with an eagle carved in it. I mean, 12 feet long, 6 inches thick raw, but stained and lacquered wood with eagle and wings. The worst experience i went to buy tin signs and they had a deal if you bought three you would get them for 10 each plus in the store for the holidays the had 25% off. When we went to check out they charged us 12.99 each and 25% off no mention on there sign that all discount didn't work together ....never going to this place again read more

I love this store. It may be my favorite part of Julian, even more than the pie! Like others have said it looks small on the outside, but it keeps going and going. I love all their stuff. Such rude workers here. Was being followed the whole time while browsing the lower level of the store. Then to make it all even better, the old bitter woman that was following me rudely told me to stop touching stuff because its not for sale, and to move away from that section of the store because she needs to work...there were no signs saying the section was off limits, it was an open section that other people were walking through. I ended up putting the stuff that I was going to buy down and leaving the store. I REFUSE to spend money at a store with rude customer service...especially when small towns like Julian are supposed to show kind hospitality. read more

Perfect place to stop in and find odds and ends that make really great gifts. The front of the shop is more of the themed home goods, while the back downstairs shop has vintage style furniture, locks and every other sort of item you have no practical use for, but absolutely must have. The people at The Warm Hearth are great and service is amazing, honest good hearted people. I reached out to them after receiving a bid from a contractor that uses their services. I had a suspicion that Steve Omara at So Cal Chimney was trying to pull a classic bait and switch by double and in some cases triple charging me for the cost of hardware and labor for the service they were providing. SoCal Chimney gave me a quote for the hardware and Steve talked up the glass from American FireGlass as this magical glass I had to have and tried to charge me over $550 dollars for 30 lbs. of glass and $180 for a basic burner, I began to question it. I did a little research and even went back to the people at The Warmth Hearth to ask them about the estimate he gave me and they were extremely alarmed. They sold me the same exact glass for $5 a pound totaling $150 and the same exact burner for $90 half of what Steve quoted me. They also took the time to advise on me on what I should buy and showed me all my different options. If it wasn't for them I would have been over charged by at least $500 dollars and not been any closer to having a working fireplace. Thank you Debbie for your professionalism and willingness to correct a wrong. read more

this place is great for shopping for your grandmother... no, just kidding. well, not entirely. it's very home made type crafts. very specific audience they're geared towards. it's a gift shop. the main area is the crafty decorations, candles, potpourri and such. there is a level to the back right that has cooking tools, almost a whole wall of cookie cutters. to the left and down the stairs is the greeting cars, stickers, supplies and what not. this is probably the busiest gift store in julian, but i think there are better ones. you just need to walk around a bit and explore the side streets. read more

I absolutely love this store, it is every girls dream for those who like decorating and nifty things! or even for men too lol The only complaint i have is that i found a particular item in the store awhile ago that wasnt the exact size i wanted, the woman who worked there told me to look on the online website to find that item and order it. I went on the online website and there are barely and items at ALL listed on the page, this makes it difficult for returning customers to find what they want and gives them no choice but to visit the store on multiple occasions until they get another shipment of that exact item in again. read more

Cute shop, great prices, staff ....ok We ventured in this shop on our first day of our 3 day weekend. Place was really cute and had a large array of items. Everything from Trinkts to soaps, to expensive kitchen fictures. We bought a few cute things and some gourmet snacks. We even came back at the end of our weekend to buy our gifts for people, the whole store was 25% off but the Christmas stuff was 50% off. There was a big sign on this shelf that said "all Christmas 50% off" on the same shelf there was a red cake plate that I thought was stunning. The price tag was 199.00 and at 50% off it would be 100.00 wich was still a bit high for me but it had been a long time since I treated myslef to something nice. When we got it to the register it didnt ring up at 50% We told the cashier (young skinny guy) that it was 50% off he gave us this look like we were trying to pull a fast one over on him. He says "only Christmas stuff is 50% off, just because its red doesnt mean its on sale" It was actually on the rack that said 50% off. Wasnt like it just got picked up and placed there by accident, its a huge glass display plate. Not a big deal if it was mislabled etc but the way he acted towards us was uncalled for. RACIAL PROFILING at its finest !! I was followed around the store by the female owner whom stood behind me watching my every move .My husband and I are a biracial couple . When My Caucasian husband went to pull our car up that was parked behind the business he asked to walk out the back entry and was told "of course" with no problem , soon after I watched an elderly Caucasian woman do the same and with zero problem .....HOWEVER when I attempted to exit the same way , I was immediately stopped by the very rude female owner staying due to insurance I couldn't use that entrance! This woman laughed and shook her head at me as If she caught me trying to attempt to steal items from their overpriced and cheap looking inventory by the exit . If insurance was really the case you wouldn't let an elderly woman pass through . You had no posted signs stating NOT AN EXIT! This is California , tourists of all nationalities visit Julian and if you are going to succeed in your business you should refrain from racial profiling tactics ! I'm a successful business owner but you tagged me as a possible shoplifter because of my skin color, I had to walk a block away all the way around to our car . You were very obvious . I will make sure that I make others aware of these poor business practices as I know quite a bit of people who visit Julian . Simply Unacceptable ! read more

This multilevel gift shop is a fun one to explore. I always find something here I can't live without. I especially like the candles and the upstairs cooking gadget section where last visit I picked up a pie bird and a bunch of copper cookie cutters. They sell a variety of Julian Jams. The pomegranate jam is very tasty and makes a great vinaigrette. Downstairs you'll find country and rustic home accessories and reproductions of those huge antique stoves which are neat to look at but I'm not sure I could cook on everyday. Weekends they often have local musicians playing music and selling CD's. read more

My husband and I like to come to Julian for the pie and check out all the fun shops that are up here. Recently we purchased a beautiful (expensive) fountain we had seen here a few weeks earlier and couldn't stop thinking about it. Upon buying it we had a few questions we wanted to ask. The heavy set lady (I'm assuming she was a manger) was literally the rudest person I've ever dealt with in my life. She basically had NO time for us and could care less if we bought or not. Fortunately for her we really wanted it so we proceeded to buy it regardless of her very shitty attitude. We head to the cash register and immediately are rushed out (apparently they were getting ready to close). This fountain is huge and heavy and we were offered no assistance to carry it out to the car. They literally put the fountain out side and closed the doors on us. They should be ashamed of themselves. I know often they can be heard bitching about the "tourists" but lady let me tell you ... those tourists you hate so much are helping fund your store. Luckily, I was so shocked about how they treated us I wasn't able to express my thoughts out loud to her but trust me IF we ever go back and I run into the big lady with bad breathe again .. The enormity of the store means a good hour or so looking around, which I loved. The wood decor and the selection of merchandise, from food to holiday items was wonderful. Sadly, I didn't purchase a thing there, they seem to make enough money that the staff doesn't care if you want to spend. The cashier spent the whole time talking to her friend at the door and ignoring the long line of people who wanted to buy things, I set my stuff down (let her put it away) and said, "I guess they don't need my money. This was the 4th of July week. In fact, it was the 2nd of July around 2pm. I used to be a resident in a nearby town and love Julian, but the customer service here severely sucks. Just because you are in a tourist town, doesn't mean you're going to do well. I would let the consigners know that their items could sell better if they had different employees running the store. I work in the customer service industry and this was the WORST service I have ever seen. Very sad. read more
