First of all, the view is the best on this side of the Columbia. Rain or shine, to get an elevated view of the river and surrounding area. If the weather is nice, the balcony seating is the go to. The drinks are very well done. The food comes up from the El Gaucho kitchen, so it is also top notch. Service was very good on this Saturday afternoon. Joel took care of us. We had the deviled eggs, which came with 6 halves, each different. Very tasty. The tenderloin Diablo, was not very Diablo like. It was kind of flat, and not worth $25. Witness Tree is located on top of Hotel Indigo along the newish Vancouver (WA) waterfront west of I5. The area has developed quickly and having grown up nearby and moved away years ago, it's amazing to see what's happened along here. Prices - well, everyone has their hand out along here. We were in town somewhat last minute staying at Hotel Indigo. The hotel provides $10 drink coupons so we decided to drop in for an impromptu drink while planning our dinner strategy. It was already 7p so no view but live music and a nice buzzy ambiance. Wait staff were fast and friendly, and before we knew it two delicious cocktails were in front of us. At the same time, I overheard the waitress at the table beside us saying that food could be ordered from El Gaucho downstairs. So we asked for a menu and started perusing. If you don't know El Gaucho it's a classic steak restaurant with lots of cuts and sizes, a sprinkling of seafood, the usual salads, and tableside this and that. A notch above Ruth's Chris, Morton's or The Capital Grille but with Peter Luger Manhattan prices. Yes, that's right, Manhattan prices in Vancouver. WA. The Couv is all grown up. Or at least trying to be, Like Witness Tree, El Gaucho has a mandatory 20% gratuity regardless of party size. Theoretically this shouldn't be an issue if you know restaurant culture and tip appropriately but I think a mandatory fee rubs many wrong to assume service will always be at that level. And on top of very high prices. A $72 6oz filet is $86, so those 8 bites better be damn good. That said, we ordered oysters, a filet, seafood pasta, and wine. The wine list was decent but not as extensive for a premium steak restaurant. Wines had the typical markup which meant $20-35+ per glass. Both the pasta and steak were good but - and this may sound picky - at $72 for 6 ounces of steak (a bar of soap) I expect perfection which means medium rare throughout. The steak was medium in some parts. If I can achieve medium rare throughout at home it should be possible here. So here's the math (rounded) for those interested. Total bill: $295. $225 food and drinks, $45 service fee (mandatory 20%), and $24 tax (8.8%). Interestingly, the 20% service charge is taxed which means we actually paid $49 or 28.8%. Had I been given the choice of my own 20% tip it would be applied to food and drink and a slightly lower bill. Not a huge deal but these are the little details - call it "nickel and diming" patrons - that rub many wrong. One note - another server came to our table before our food arrived and placed a steak in front of me. Before he could place the other dish I told him it wasn't our order. He picked up the steak and delivered to another table. In most restaurants - and certainly in a premium setting - that dish should have been remade. Whether perception or simple hygiene you simply can't do that. All in all, the Witness Tree was a nice spot, with tasty cocktails and ambiance. Prices and service fee will be off putting for some, and not sure this would be my go-to as there are many rooftop / view options nearby. read more

We swung up to Witness Tree to grab some drinks on a Saturday night. The team was very friendly and took great care of us. A special thanks to Kennedy our server for the great service. She answered all of our menu questions and got our drink order in fast. The drinks were all mixed well. I tried a seasonal drink (The Last Leaf), it was smooth and the pumpkin flavor was night and light. I love a good hotel bar and if it comes with great views of the columbia ,it just is the cherry on the top. I was worried if we will get seated or not and tried making reservations but that wasn't an option online. So naturally when I got there after battling the Friday traffic between Portland and Vancouver, I was pissed to find that they were closed for a private event. However they accommodated us on the rooftop bar which is what I anyways preferred. The setting is beautiful albeit small and there are firepits to provide the much needed warmth from the chill . Drinks are good but food menu is limited to only a handful of things .Service is fantastic . read more

First off the view is amazing and the server was friendly, but she did not know any of the answers to questions I had asked about the menu, regarding what the drink special was or what other drinks were, etc. to be honest, that's not a dealbreaker. Had the food been good? We had a glass of wine, a beer off hh menu, & The steak skewers which were not good. It was tender, but bland and had a very weird taste to it and then lots nasty fatty bites. $18 for the happy hour steak skewers and just not good at all . Stopped in after apps and happy hour at the AC Hotel. This place is posh and the interior design is beautiful. Finally some nice places this side of the river. We sat at the bar on Valentines Day, fairly early in the evening. Great service, attentive and friendly. Both of the cocktails I tried were well done, pretty and delicious. This is probably the nicest bar/lounge we've been to since moving to the PNW. The staff is welcoming, attentive and seemed to work really well together to greet, seat and serve guests. We arrived shortly after 4pm on a gorgeous Sunny Saturday afternoon. We attempted to get a table outside but they were all taken, so we sat inside near the window so we could catch the sunset. Because we had just eaten at Grassa about an hour before (and were totally stuffed) we opted to just get dessert and wine, which turned out to be a total treat. We got the chocolate torte which was so decadent, rich, & creamy with raspberry & pistachio crumble - simply divine. And it paired nice with our glasses of local Pinot noir. Service was excellent and the ambiance is a vibe, especially being right on the water. The decor, colors, lighting and woodwork all contribute to the beautiful aesthetic. read more

The perfect view of the lake on top of the hotel indigo. If you ever stay at any of the hotels on the waterfront I would recommend you make reservations for outdoor seating to catch the sunset. Drinks is a bit pricey but the appetizers made up for it. The pork belly was tender and the deviled eggs came in three different flavors. *puts on monacle and top hat* I am absolutely tickled that little ole Vancouver has a rooftop lounge with a really comfortable and upscale ambience to boot. And when I say upscale, I mean ~upscale~. We were greeted and escorted all the way up to the 8th floor which was a nice little boost to feel like we were part of the 1% for an evening. We arrived just at sunset and you could quite literally feel the energy as people enjoyed the moment, it was very beautiful! We were greeted promptly at our table and had great service our entire visit. Nothing overbearing and also very attentive to our requests. Extremely comfortable seating that encouraged us to stay for over 2 hours. If I'm being a little pedant, I'll just say it was awkward having the uncommonly small tables at the incorrect height for how low the seating was at the banquets. I also feel as though the acoustics can be managed a little better as during our stay, 3 different, large parties rotated near us (but not next to us) and it was fairly easy to listen in on their loud conversations. What we had: 2 glasses of wine each, I really liked my rose, the pours were heavy! Charcuterie - I thought it was fairly priced for what we were receiving but what was provided did not mesh well together. It looked beautiful, don't get me wrong, but having pickled cauliflower, pate, savory cheesecake (bleu cheese), and a delightful mustard as the accoutrements made it difficult to mix and match flavors since they were all stand-alone, flavorful stars. Plus, more crisps are always needed, always Poke bowl - really fresh fish, would absolutely order again, good staple ;) 5/5 view on a crisp winter evening 5/5 aesthetics 5/5 service 4/5 food 4/5 functionality of space Rounding up to 5 stars because I still really enjoyed the place and am working on trying not to be so detail-oriented for my own sanity! My newest, favorite bar with a stunning view of Portland. Warm and welcoming, the WT has it all: a budget-friendly happy hour until 6 pm, great service, and a beautiful, comfortable ambiance. I had a terrific happy hour Manhattan for $8. My daughter had an espresso martini at regular price: $18. It tasted perfect to me, but she wanted it a bit sweeter. The bartender added a liqueur, and she enjoyed it more. My husband had a milk stout as the happy hour beer. We stepped on the south facing balcony briefly--it was a 90 degree, Midsummer day, so we didn't sit out there. I noticed heaters and blankets for cooler nights. Sitting outside on a cool night with a warming whiskey neat is in my future. The music was a bit loud, but that's a small complaint. I really liked this bar and will certainly be back. read more

Beautiful, cozy, relaxing. It has great views, as you'd expect. Lots of different seating options with a chill intimate vibe. Basically a date night dream place when the goal is talking to, and enjoying, each other rather than just "going to dinner again". Speaking of dinner, it's a very limited app menu. My knock down to 4 stars is because there's not one vegetarian option. Although, in all fairness, I didn't ask if anything could be adapted to vegetarian either. I had a bartender (Matt) whip me up something unique and all I remember is that there was rye whiskey...lol...photo attached. It was fantastic. We attended the grand opening last night, and it was quite an experience! Upon arriving to the 8th floor, you are immediately transported to an upscale fancy lounge. The service/food/drinks were great, and the feel of the place was lively! The tables were interesting, as some are normal height, but around the lounge area there are what I would call fancy benches/lounges, and around the seats the tables are pretty tiny and short, so plan accordingly if you'd like a normal sized table! I had a paisley park cocktail, which was a pretty purple color, but tasted like black licorice, which I'm not a fan of at all. As a whole cocktail, it had a great flavor profile, just not for me I'm not sure if that's what they were going for, but it strongly tasted like it. If you like black licorice, I say go for it! The poke and sliders were top notch, would order again! This is a very cool spot, and recommend to anyone who wants a fancy cocktail evening on the 8th floor of a hotel with great views! Witness Tree Lounge has a great vibe and great drinks. It's at the top of the Hotel Indigo, and has indoor and outdoor seating. In the summer the second floor rooftop is open. For winter, you'll have to do with the main floor balcony (with heaters and blankets). There is low, but not dark, lighting with magenta accents. Tables and couches for a more intimate feel, or you can sit at the bar. If you've ever been to STK in Bellevue, it's like that. But actually feels like a lounge instead of a Vegas club. read more
