This place had been on my bucket list for a long time! I finally came for a saturday 11AM brunch with no reservation and surprisingly didn't have to wait. We ordered the mimosa kit the juices it came with were very good. I ordered the lobster and waffles; the lobster was really good, I had never had it fried before. The waffles were pretty plain, needed a bit more flavor in my opinion. I felt the syrup could have been a bit sweeter. I also surprisingly enjoyed the little arugula salad it came with. The eggs and potatoes were perfect! The eggs were well seasoned and fluffy. The potatoes were crispy on the outside and also well seasoned. Would definitely come back to try new stuff. A cheeseburger without fries should not cost $14. We also had buffalo cauliflower wings which were fine. I had the kale and Quinoa Salad the only vegan entree. It had way too much dressing . It didn't taste bad but was nothing to make me come back. I also noticed that the floor underneath our table was so sticky. Dinner for two people without drinks was $64. Not impressed by this place at all. We came on a slow Sunday night and they were able to sit 6 of us at one of the booths in the middle of the restaurant. The place itself is huge, casino-inspired, with plenty of bar seating. I started with the Unruly Behavior, and I guess it was ok, but two of my girlfriends had the mocktail Sugar and Spice and they both hated it. Food was ok, I had the Whale Burger (no side, you have to order it separately), and my friends had the Steak Frites - nothing special. I do have to say that even though located in Logan Square, the prices are very downtown-alike. They have the automatic Event gratuity (22%) and they even charge you the CC Process Fee, which shouldn't be covered by the guest! My advice, if you wanna treat yourself, go to some stylish downtown spot - you'll spend the same amount of money but at least they are gonna have the service and skill to back up the high checks. read more

Super neat place with a quaint menu and pleasant customer service. While waiting for friends, I had the most refreshing cocktail - Frose (as suggested by the conversational bartender). It looks as amazing as it makes you feel. I ordered the sushi on a whim. I was pleasantly surprised from the plating to the taste. The bartender boxed up the rest and brought it to my table once my party came. The chicken cesar salad was over dressed for my liking but tasty. Seated at the large patio door facing the street gave walkers by a birds eye view of the good time that was had inside. They do a great job of giving you a good mix of current and classics of many genres. The perfect scene for a hip crowd. The Whale is a Logan Square staple that is serving up phenomenal food encompassed by an enchanting atmosphere. I'm an out-of-towner visiting the city for the weekend and decided to take the ole ball and chain to The Whale expecting some good eats and fantastic views of the renowned Chicago neighborhood. What I got blew my expectations out of the water. Upon entering the restaurant, you are met with a unique design featuring red leather booths, old fashion yet still stylish wallpaper, and antiques all around that add to the esthetic. However, I didn't only come for the atmosphere and the food my girlfriend and I dined on was delicious. My old lady ordered the fried chicken plate that comes with pimento mac n cheese and I ordered the beef tenderloin sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries for a slight upcharge (both pictured below). Our server was extremely attentive and the food came out timely. My sandwich was delicious, tender and juicy beef accompanied by a salty chimichurri sauce and sharp gruyere cheese. It was yummy. The star of the show, however, was the fried chicken plate. It comes with a wing, drum, and two large boneless thighs. The chicken was insanely crispy and flavorful and the mac n cheese was spicy, cheesy, and very creamy. We reluctantly passed on dessert but the options looked incredible as well. I will most definitely be back next time I'm in the city and hope my experience is just as good if not better. 5 stars. read more

I had been following this restaurant on Instagram for weeks before they officially opened. Everything looked so good! Everything seemed to live up to the hype once I finally gave this place a visit. The casino themed decor stands out. I can't think of many other Chicago restaurants that have this type of theme within their restaurant. To drink, I had the "North of Havana" cocktail. This cocktail is made with pineapple infused bourbon, coconut milk, cilantro lemongrass syrup, lime, and angostura. Slightly tropical, but not overly sweet. I really liked it and would order it again. We tried the lobster roll sliders and they were delicious. For my main meal, I ordered the crab cakes and was very pleased with these as well. read more

Their food menu is huge and they variety of food selections. They also have amazing drinks such as fresh fruit juices, smoothies, coffee, sodas, cocktails, and others. Everything on their menu is top quality. I tried their Rib-eye steak, waffle, and a glass of coffee. All the food I ordered was fine and they served it to me while hot. Their staff was good, friendly, and attentive. All of them were moving and working so fast. They all know how to do their job correctly. They greeted me the time I entered the place. Help me to find a seat. All of them were smiling and had a nice vibe. One of them took my orders and got everything correct. I just waited a few minutes and they perfectly served everything on time and I can tell that it is made to order because it was still hot. The coffee is also great and strong. One of the best coffees I have ever had. The Whale is phenomenal! Not only for their food and service. But also because of their elegant and huge place. The waiter said that the burger is one of their signature items so that is what I had, and it did not disappoint. I went during Covid and they were following protocols to satisfaction, tables are spaced out and waiters wear their masks. My friends and I had such a great Sunday brunch here. We were able to make reservations same day. When we arrived, inside was almost at capacity, but luckily, we snagged a spot on their patio. The restaurant is pretty spacious but I don't think there's a ton of space for large groups. Fro brunch, their entire menu was available to order. There are no bottomless mimosas here, so you'd have to purchase them individually at $7 each, or purchase a bottle of champagne. I opted to try a few flavors of mimosa. They have orange juice, cranberry juice, black cherry, and mango. [maybe more, but I remember those.] I ordered the steak and eggs served with potatoes, and my friends ordered the shrimp and grits and varieties of potatoes. Their grits were very creamy with a generous portion of shrimp, and everything was well seasoned. My steak and eggs were also very tasty. Our server was great, very informed of the menu and just pleasant. What I really appreciated was that The Whale was able to separate the check by the person and give us individual bills. It made for a seamless service towards the end. All in all, the restaurant was 10/10. It is decorated very luxe on the inside, there a tufted booths that gives a more intimate vibe and floral wallpaper on accent walls. Don't know whether I would return. Drinks were okay, lobster tacos were mid. Refreshing but too acidic, couldn't really taste the lobster. Crab rolls were really good. Fried chicken was pretty good and fairly priced. The Mac and cheese it came with was pretty average but oddly tasted better after microwaving it the next day. It felt genuine & warm each time. Onward to the food! Starters were the Lobster Tacos, & the Baltimore Crab Rolls. The tacos were good ( I wish the meat would have been more of a chilled in lieu of being ice cold, like straight out of the refrigerator). Nothing to complain or gripe about here, we enjoyed the tacos & would order again. The Baltimore Crab rolls were heavily seasoned, & tasted like someone was really heavy handed with the old bay. It wasn't horrid but it wasn't that good. I would not order these again. For my entree I ordered the Sicilian Crab Cakes which were good. These were flavorful & moist but not so much where the cake was mushy. He ordered the Lamb Chops & they were cooked to perfection as well. They graciously accommodated our walk-in party of 8 for a late lunch, and turned down the blasting tunes and the roasting heaters on the patio to indulge us. This place was a gem find in Logan square! We celebrated my birthday here. It was very busy on a Monday night! Before 6 I don't think a reservation is needed but after that time it does get busy. There is a beautiful bar area that I'd like to go to next time. All of our food came out very fast! Everything was delicious and filling. Very pretty spot but I'd recommend going during the daytime. It is very dark inside at night with just dimmed lights so I imagine it would be hard to eat food but maybe some people enjoy that. It also gets loud late at night. We had a very comfy big booth so we enjoyed ourselves despite the loudness. -The drinks were very good and our favorite was the North of Havana! A must if you like sweet drinks! -The only food we ordered were the fries and they were very good. -Service was good. The bouncers were so incredibly nice, I have never seen that anywhere else. HAIR IN FOOD!!! We were a group of 8 celebrating a birthday. My friend found a HAIR INSIDE her burger patty. We told our waitress and she "I'm sorry" and took the burger away. 5-10 minutes later someone else came out with a new burger and put it down in front of my friend and said nothing. We assumed someone was going to come by. We were wrong. The bills came and her burger was not comped and no one came to apologize to her. They were very nonchalant like they have HAIRS IN THEIR FOOD all of the time so it's not a big deal. I told our waitress that a manager didn't come apologize, and even after expressing our frustrations no one came out. I had come by on a weekend brunch with a friend on reservation. I had seen the photos of this exquisite place in Logan Square, and I wanted to give it a try! I was instantly interested by the indoor design when I walked in. I don't think I've been to another restaurant that has been so ornate and made me feel like I was transported to another decade. It was like you could have forgotten you were in Logan Square. They also had some of the most beautiful tables and comfortable chairs I've sat in at a restaurant. Couldn't wait to bring friends here just for the ambiance! Music was rather loud and it was a bit difficult to hear my friend, but we moved so that we were sitting next to each other instead of across. I ordered the Shrimp & Grits, which is my classic brunch choice already. We were a bit confused because the server who introduced herself to us as our server wasn't the one who took our order, but as long as we got to order, that was what mattered. When my food came, I was please by how much grits I had. I really enjoy a hearty portion, and it did not look like it would disappoint. But what REALLY pleased me was how many shrimps there were! They weren't the largest shrimps I've had, but they were each seasoned and cooked so perfectly, and could easily be eaten in a delectable bite. I was so pleased that I could keep on digging in the grits and there would be more shrimp. I've never had this many in my shrimp & grits!! Blown away.
