The view from the balcony on the second floor of this restaurant is pretty spectacular. One looks out on two lakes and the channel in between them (where this restaurant is located). The food is pretty much American fare with an emphasis on fresh-water fish. Sandwiches, baskets of nnn and fries are the luch fare with more hearty items included for dinner. It has a full bar and the service is prompt. It often fills up for views of the sunset and, if you have to wait outside, the mosquitos will devour you. I am giving one star only because I can't give any less than that. Probably one of the worst experiences my family and I have ever had. The restaurant was not overly busy for a Sunday evening in the summer. We seated ourselves on the outdoor patio and while the view was beautiful; that was the best part of our experience. We had to wait over 30 minutes just to get our side salads, which we had to ask for. I was told by the waitress they had a vinaigrette dressing, but they brought out regular vinegar and oil (which was fine, but not what I was told). We had to wait ANOTHER 30 minutes just to get our food. Shortly before our food came out, another waitress tried to bring our dinner salads in which I let her know how long we had been waiting. Our food finally came out at 70 minutes. SEVENTY. When it finally arrived my husband's walleye was cold, as were the fries in our kids' meals. I had to wait another 5 minutes for my food. My husband could not eat his walleye dinner it was so cold and unappetizing. He ordered a burger and fries which arrived within 10-12 minutes. The steamed vegetables on my plate were so cold that the shaved Parmesan cheese that was supposed to melt just sat on top of the vegetables. Also, who serves a cold tomato slice with steamed/grilled vegetables? When we got the bill and went to pay the server we had hoped they might compensate us just a little since we had to wait so extremely long and they acknowledged that we had to wait. There must have been an issue in the kitchen as they mentioned that the Head Chef was now in. Our disappointment continued when we saw all they did was remove the inedible walleye dinner and comp half of the burger he had to order. Horrible experience. I suspect they get so much traffic because boats can dock and get gas, but that doesn't make up for the experience. Our waitress wouldn't even make eye contact with us as we sat there and waited and waited and waited. There are other places to eat in Cross Lake, go there, to any of them. I recently had a "Bloody and brunch," as the sign at the Wharf says, and it was delicious and great value. We sat outside and lounged with a stellar Bloody Mary, which was a meal unto itself, what with the pickle, olive, pepper, shrimp, and meat garnishes! Then brunch was enormous and delightful, with charming service. If this review were just for brunch, it would be five stars, but I'm not as much a fan of the Wharf for dinner as I now am of brunch. read more

Have to split the difference and give it 3 stars. The breakfast and Bloody Marys were great. Omelets, pancakes and Bloodys with beer chasers are hard to beat. We came back for dinner. They had an extensive cocktail menu and all of our drinks were good. The meals in our party of 9 were very mixed. Steaks and salmon were good, the Captain's Walleye was not. It was overcooked and way too heavy on the batter. The Key Lime pie desert was not good at all but the Molten cake hit the spot. Stick to the burger and sandwich menu and order up on the cocktails. Definitely come in for breakfast. They have boat slips as well as plenty of parking spaces in their lot. Have both downstairs bar area seating as well as quieter, family oriented seating upstairs. Like other people have said....location is beautiful and perfect when dining outside! I had breakfast. It was the small version of the cajun breakfast and i am glad the waitress stopped me when i said large because she said the small is enough for a grown man, boy was she right! I thought there was just too many hashbrowns in this dish cause they werent done enough for me. The hollandaise sauce was pretty good but maybe too much of that was laddled over the dish because it overpowered it. The marbled rye would have been great but i asked for it to be well done and it wasnt even close to being well done. The concept behind this dish was right on though. The bloody mary with a beer chaser was excellent! Just the right amt of spice and vodka made this an enjoyable cocktail. Stopped by early afternoon for a quick appetizer and a beer. The bartender was very friendly, helpful and enjoyable. Standard food - high prices. Nothing special - except the ambience. Food seems like it comes right off the "Sysco" truck and is slapped on the grill then served. Well the boat parking is cool, but...... the food is way overpriced for a plate of fried food. Unless you are sitting outside on the patio and you are a regular, you will have terrible terrible service. I had 6 servers walk by my empty drink. The food is really good here BUT it's way overpriced. We ordered four lunches (normal stuff like burgers and chicken fingers) and the bill was over $70! We enjoy sitting out on the deck and watching the boats go by but I wish they'd upgrade the deck and furniture out there. Also, on the upper deck, the railing is built in a way that it obstructs your view of the water. The furniture looks like it was made of old packing crates and could not be more uncomfortable. The bathrooms are dingy and dark. The service is fairly prompt, but I notice it's faster for people who order alcoholic drinks (which I'm sure is where they make their money). Great venue - right on the channel between Cross and Rush Lakes, and, as a huge plus, they allow well-behaved dogs outside on their patio. The food is okay, not great, but there's the problem: over the past couple of years, The Wharf has gotten to be the most expensive place to eat in the area. Burgers are 30% more expensive than Moonlight, and the drinks are more expensive too. I would give this place a 4-star rating if they were more competitive on prices.
