After a morning at Lavender Pond Farm we had lunch reservations here at the Wharf, a beautiful peaceful spot overlooking the Sound. My girls and I had a delicious lunch and cocktails. Appetizer of fried Brussel Sprouts - but don't be afraid of the "fried" they're pan fried not deep fried. With a generous topping of bacon, blue cheese, diced apple ... could have made the meal just out of this but glad we shared as my Caesar salad with real dressing ... not bottled ... with blackened salmon was amazing, the salmon was tender, juicy, and delicious! My girls had the classic burger and the classic chicken club, both completely demolished! Although we were full we shared a cheesecake which was light, fluffy and super-creamy and brought some home for later (chocolate cake and key lime pie). We have dined for brunch as well as dinner here at this beautiful place. Perfect for any occasion. Last time we dined here for their special lobster menu extravaganza. Kevin waited on us. He was such a delight and made sure we were taken care of. I had some of the best oysters I've ever had and a delicious pinot gris. I can't wait to go back! Our amazing afternoon began by being greeted by the hostess who was so welcoming and knew the exact reason for our first visit to the Wharf. We were there to celebrate what should have been our wedding day, but was postponed due to Covid. We were promptly seated and given a glass of champagne.! The view was amazing! The service by Martha was awesome and the food was delicious. The bacon wrapped scallops were so good that we placed another order for them! Drinks were great, not watered down like many places. Our dining experience here was the best I've had in a very long time! The views are absolutely amazing and we even got to see a wedding! We came for an early lunch after the spa. The tuna tar tar and crab cakes were to die for - so fresh! The special was a Maine lobster roll, though they tell me it's usually a CT lobster roll. I was thrilled! Cold lobster rolls are my absolute favorite and it was so refreshing and tasty. They even made me a side of watermelon instead of chips and it was so refreshing. My fiancé got the burger and said it's the best burger he's had in years. 10/10. I cannot wait to come back. read more

Celebrated my dad's birthday here and had a great time!! We came around 6PM and put our name down on the wait list for outside dining (about a 45 minute wait). While waiting we walked to the beach which is just outside the restaurant and enjoyed taking photos on the rocks. For appetizers we got the the watermelon salad and tuna tartare which were both delicious and perfect for three people. Bread was upon request. Dinner we got the salmon special and the cod and they were all superb. We were too full for dessert but they all looked great! Service is on the slower side so give yourself time but overall would definitely come back! read more

We had two really nice meals at the Wharf. I want to give a shout out to Cathy, the manager. She was awesome and squeezed us in last minute after we had stupidly cancelled our dinner reservations. Our waitresses, Joelene and Julianna, were lovely and gave good advice. We had lunch as soon as we arrived at the hotel. The outdoor seating was excellent, with a great view. The cocktails were excellent and very reasonably priced for a hotel restaurant. We started out with the meze platter, which was very good. My wife had a chicken wrap, which she liked OK. I had an excellent crab cake sandwich. We were allowed to linger over iced coffee and take in the view. Dinner was a different experience. There were parties who were dressed up in addition to the more casually attired hotel guests. The vibe was fun. We shared the excellent crab timbale to start. My wife had the fried rice, which she liked. The linguine with chorizos and clams was very good. This is the rare hotel restaurant that has the goods and is a significant part of the local dining scene, with great views and service. The food is very good and reasonably priced. It's a refreshing change from the typical onsite hotel restaurant. We look forward to returning. read more

Chef Ryan is the definition of lazy. Almost everything on the menu is designed so it's premade before the restaurant opens and only needs assembly and plating, and the food is about as uninspiring as it gets. The only updates to the menu in the last 4 years have been removing items (with no replacements), including French fries, which Chef Ryan still cites COVID as the reason for not bringing them back. It's a shame that MBH is wasting such a gem of a restaurant by keeping this chef at the helm. read more

The irony of a restaurant full of rich white people eating flavorless food and unseasoned rice while the song "money money money" played seemed lost on everyone. When we arrived with a reservation we were led to a bar seat viewing the ocean. When we asked if we could have a table they told us we would have needed to specify that we wanted a table when we made our reservation..... The food was overpriced and had literally no flavor. Nit even salt One of our dishes was literally served with unseasoned white rice (and the dish itself had no sauce or anything to flavor the rice with). The pasta I got promised a white wine and caper sauce but was just pasta in yellow water. After adding a shaker of salt it still was bland. The view was nice tho. read more

Three stars average is just about right for this restaurant. For breakfast, they charged $3 extra for fruit, which consisted of three tiny strawberries cut up into quarters and three thin slices of an orange (they can cut about 9 thin slices out of one orange!) For $6, you can get a fruit platter, which consists of thinly sliced unripe pineapple, cantaloupe, honeydew, all amounting to less than 1/2 cup of fruit. This is laughable. The lobster eggs Benedict was weird tasting. The lobster tasted like burnt butter on the bottom of the pan, and the hollandaise sauce was very sour. Not worth $23. The one time I had dinner there, the stuffed shrimp tasted like alcohol. The sauces were really creamy, as I tasted my dining companions' food as well. The fried calamari and Caesar salad were pretty good, although the portions were really small. The food is ok, and the restaurant depends on the captive audience who don't want to leave the hotel. Local couple, walked over to MBH for an early dinner. Rolled in at 5:30...extremely unpleasant 'hostess' informed us that nothing was available, even the counter on the deck was 'completely booked'. We were about to bail when she decided she could squeeze us in at the worst table in the restaurant. The woman who seated us was very pleasant and professional, trying to compensate for her colleague. When we left at 7 pm, at least 1/2 the tables and counter seats were empty. Whoever is managing the restaurant needs to be aware that our experience tonight is EXACTLY why locals avoid MBH. read more

By Sarah Crisp When I was 16, my parents took me to Halmstadt on the west coast of Sweden and while we were there I had my first taste of a true smörgåsbord: a long, relaxed meal presented as a work of art in elegant surroundings. The Wharf at the Madison Beach Hotel falls into a similar league. At $43/person it was the most expensive of the brunch venues we tried, but worth every penny for both its extensive selection and beautiful presentation. My husband's Bloody Mary was the best he had tasted in a long time - not too salty, not too spicy. He also enjoyed the carving station of succulent prime rib and glazed ham while I helped myself to the raw bar of Little Neck clams, oh-so-fresh shrimp, and oysters. A side of poached salmon was almost too stunning to cut into. Another table offered an interesting selection of European cheeses, assorted and imaginative house-made breads, scones, and tea breads. Chafing dishes lined the wood-paneled walls of the dining room, filled with seafood stuffed sole and Dijon chicken, while another section offered more traditional breakfast foods, including french toast and maple syrup, sausage, bacon and my favorite Eggs Benedict (how do they ensure that the eggs don't go hard, the muffin stays crispy and yet the food still stays warm?) The centerpiece of the brunch was presented as a work of art. A phenomenal variety of salads and side dishes, exotic fruits, bruschetta, antipasto, a charcuterie selection, gravlax, and a display of smoked and cured fish including whitebait which I have not had since leaving England. I was not the only one taking photographs! Neither of us made it to the chef's omelet station, but that was only because of the line. The final selection was desserts: elegant squares of cheesecakes, brownies, cream pastries, fresh fruit tarts and handmade truffles. We had to try an assortment - how else could I honestly say they were worth the calories? Although mid-winter, we chose to sit out on the balcony and enjoy the view and bright sunny beach. The Wharf serves 120 for brunch in the off-season and reserve on open-table but watch out, it shows tables available from 8:00am, which they are for breakfast, but brunch does not start until 11:00am. Very nice place for a couples dinner. Nice seafood options and a wonderful brunch! I stayed in the hotel and had several meals there. Nothing but good food and staff. I will eat here again on my next stay! Get the calamari and the burger. They are to die for. Raw bar is a little pricey but it kept me from pigging out of oysters, clams and shrimp. read more

It always is but today was especially bad. Please have the waitstaff be much more considerate. we May not return. We just stayed at the Madison Beach Club for a couple nights and so had a couple of meals at The Wharf. Both were delicious (great clam chowder, tuna tartare, duck confit quesadilla and bacon wrapped scallops), and served with Covid-friendly smiles. Order: some beef some, NE clam chowder, crab cake appetizer, TWO staffed lobsters. The beef soup was salty and over powering beef, chowder was good but could have been more traditional, the crab cake was the best for an appetizer which we shared, but the lobster :-( Lobster was over cooked and rubbery. I have had many fine lobsters in my 70+ years but I would rate these as a five out of ten. No taste and poorly cooked. The stuffing was supposed to be crab seafood stuffing but actually it was a soggy mess of bread crumbs. At over $40 we expect at least a 1 1/2 pound lobster but were served small chix. The highlight was the servers who were very attentive especially Kevin. We were so disappointed since the occasion was our anniversary. Okay, so I have said never again and somehow once a year I show up, thinking things would be different. It's such a curious place, absolutely over the top with a vibe for 70 year old people in that Florida kind of way. I was super excited to try this place out and to enjoy the view. The view is okay, nothing spectacular or worth the price. The food was just bad and bland. I got the lobster Benedict and was very disappointed. The bread was old and difficult to eat, the lobster was put on the biscuit without any flavor, and the home fries were underwhelming. I would not recommend their food to anyone, especially not at their current prices. The only aspect I would give 5/5 stars was the service, everyone was very kind and attentive. One of my go to favorites is the lobster roll but yesterday it was not good. The butter they gave me on the side had been refrigerated. You could tell that it was not fresh. You know how when you put butter in the refrigerator after you open it and don't seal it it taste like the entire refrigerator. That's what it tasted like, The french fries were magnificent on my last visit and were horrible yesterday greasy and left a heavy aftertaste. Just had a wonderful time at the Wharf-cocktails and appetizers and all were so good! Was very impressed with the seating outside-very attentive to Covid spacing,lots of room to spread out,ceiling heaters kept it very warm,they have it enclosed with remote controlled clear blinds,the view was lovely of the sound and,as it got dark,of their outside Christmas Tree by the beach. Kim was our friendly server,we had the Brussels Sprouts with bacon,Bacon Wrapped Scallops and Tuna Tartare-all were so fresh and delicious. They have a great cocktail list, with prices roughly $12. While that price might seem high, the second you step out into the deck and see the sparkling ocean view, everything is perfect. Since I was there in late-January, I didn't think we'd be able to enjoy the patio, but it was closed in and heated (double bonus in my opinion). We enjoyed a beautiful winter sunset over the water and all of the outside servers checked in with us just enough. While it wasn't busy at all yesterday, I can imagine this place being jam-packed in the summer. read more

The food here is spectacular American fare in a gorgeous ocean front setting. I went with a party of 16 and tried almost everything, but the standouts were the crab and lobster pasta, curry mussels and Brussels sprouts. Pasta was perfectly al dente with a generous amount of lobster and real crab in a creamy luxe sauce. Brussels sprouts were crispy (not soggy, very hard to do this right) and dressed in a sweet savory mix of bacon cheese and apples. The mussels were so over the top amazing in flavor that I wanted to drink the broth. Calamari was fried but still light and clean, poached pear salad was fresh and beautifully presented. Every dish for 16 people was perfect. We also had brunch the next morning and repeat of delicious food. Some people have complained about the service, and we did have a few hiccups. With 16 people I don't think that's unreasonable,and I've always cared more about the food anyway. read more

I've tried the duck, stuffed shrimp, and crab&lobster carbonara. Also tried a few of their appetizers like the oysters and prawns, calamari, pulled pork fritter and Brussels sprouts. They are all delicious but the stuffed shrimp and lobster&crab carbonara are a bit salty. For the stuffed shrimp they give u 3 decent size shrimp, and the veggies were shredded and placed on top. Good presentation, actually. The carbonara, i believe contains 2 crab claws? It has ok amount of lobster and shrimp and the serving overall is pretty big. My favorite was actually the Brussels sprouts. It has good flavor and cooked perfectly.Calamari is ok. Overall good experience and the view is just amazing. But food is ok. Sad but this place is all about the views. Started with half dozen oysters and 4 prawns. Oysters were dry. Like no juice left out in the sun dry. The prawns were simply shrimp. Like nothing more than you'd see at a stop and shop for $14/lb. these were $4/ea. Ordered from the kids menu for our easy palette little ones and, while our mains were horrible, our kids wanted our food more than the grease and mush they had on their plates. Not uncommon for them but they refused to take another bite of the chicken fingers or mac n cheese. I tasted it and blech. No problem because it's not like we were eating. read more

As much as I love the Madison Beach Hotel, its restaurant is not on the same level of service and quality. The food is OK, as are the drinks, but nothing to rave about, while the service is somewhat embarrassing. At one point, the server dropped off the dessert menus and didn't return for 20 minutes, at which point we declined dessert. She offered a lame excuse with her apology, but she could have easily stopped by at any point before that. read more

My boyfriend and I ate here recently and it was a perfect date night! Chef Warmingham has done an amazing job curating the summer menu. Everything was delicious. Views were immaculate (we sat outside on the deck at sunset). Our server, Martha, was attentive and knowledgeable while being super personable. Menu highlights included the crab cakes, pork belly, scallops and fried rice. We were so full and happy. We'll be back especially to fit in dessert next time, which was absolutely tempting but our tummies were to the brim with savory goodness. How about failing to bring small plates to split an appetizer, then snapping "I was taking care of this other group, but I'll leave them to deal with you, OK?!!!" Appropriate? In a word Disappointing I know this is not a fair review. The view was beautiful and the food was OK, just ok given the price and frankly the expectation. In truth, what earned the review rating was the service and I think the attitude of the way they opted to treat us at brunch. On whim, on a great late summer day, warm and clear skies, we drove to try out what he had heard was a beautiful place. And it was! and the valets, with free valet parking, gave us great hope with their enthusiasm and pleasant welcome. Sadly, that was the high point until we left and they again, wished us a good day when we left. So to the issues. First the host/hostess. I never understand why a restaurant leaves the valuable first impression to those with the least experience. We could see they were busy, but stop and look at us and say "hello!".We asked about the availability of outside, knowing it was first come/first serve after calling ahead. Being told there was none available we were a) frustrated to see their was seating at a counter like spot and b) surprised to see a table leave as were were waiting for our server to come with drinks. Now had we been told " a few minutes wait" we would have gladly done so! Now, the service. Slow slow slow. I do not get why someone gets station at opposite ends of the restaurant. First we had to ask the host for a wait staff. What was incredible was the waitress he sent out to the kitchen to find one; could have taken ours, and it turns out her s section was closer to us than the one who finally came to ours. Now, more on service, I get your busy. But, when you stop by to ask how we are doing, please actually stop - don't fly by and treat us like an after thought. perhaps that is why it took three, thats is 3, that is twice and then with the request for the bill a third request for coffee. The coffee was bitter, assume old, the food was fair, the prime rib had a lot of fat, the pasta looked baked, the eggs cold and the grilled vegetables, which implies they were cooked at some point - were almost raw. When we paid the bill, and ready to leave my wife remarked I had left 1/2 of the bloody mary. My favorite Sunday brunch treat. I told her it was not that good. She asked, how can a bloody mary not be good. Indeed, how. I usually end a review on our plans to return to a restaurant. Sigh....it was a pretty spot..but not likely under this management that does not focus on the quality of the experience. Sorry, this was harsh. My cousins brought me here for breakfast. The view in winter was FABULOUS! it just finished snowing so everything was gorgeous. I'm sure it's more gorgeous in the summer. The food was fabulous, the service was EXCELLENT! I don't know what everyone else on yelp is complaining about. Our server was attentive, courteous, patient, friendly and downright adorable. I can't remember her name or else I'd post it. I love eating where there's white linen table cloths etc. I got the meat lovers omelet that came with a hashbrown potato stack, english muffins and coffee. There is a porch out front for wine drinking and a superb ocean view for summer, there was a huge fireplace with roaring fire in the front lobby.
