Yesterday 2/25/26....5 of us adults visited The Newly opened Whistle Stop in Oxford, Ma. What an enjoyable experience it was for all. We were cheerfully greeted by the new owner, Kevin ,who made us feel so welcome........We each ordered something different and enjoyed it all. From the salads, to the meals, and to the dessert which was ice cream and cake.....we were more than satisfied....And our sweet and thorough waitress, Gianna,,,,,,,she was wonderful and couldn't do enough for us....we were all thankful for her service.....Thank you for a great visit, we will be back........... read more

Visited on Friday, 11/15 @ 3 pm for a late lunch. Looked busy but still a few empty spots in the parking lot. Their 3rd day open. Very friendly greeting as soon as I walked in the door. Seated in the back room near the kitchen. Very clean & a great vibe. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.The bar area was lively with only a couple seats left. Samantha arrived, ordered a glass of wine (Moscato white) and a glass of ice. I waited, and waited and finally my wine arrives but no ice (wouldn't it make sense to grab both b4 bringing it to the table) waiting for ice, waiting, waiting, waiting & thinking I should have brought my own ice. It finally arrived & I ordered the Baked Haddock w/ cracker stuffing, rice pilaf and steamed broccoli. Found 3 bones in the 1st few bites, not happy. Rice pilaf was undercooked, possibly the orzo or whatever is used, trying to avoid losing a filling. The broccolli was very good, cooked perfectly. I don't typically use salt & pepper but everything needed it. Not much flavoring on everything. Samantha finally stopped to ask how it was. Advised on fish bones & undercooked pilaf. She went right to the kitchen & advised the kitchen server. No one came to the table to inquire. The popcorn was made fresh but I had already been served my food. If I'll be waiting for food, I definitely appreciate the popcorn with my wine, which was Very good @ $8 a glass. No more fish or pilaf eaten till I get home to prepare for leftovers. At $17 I barely touched it and I was starving. Went up to the server when popcorn ready and asked for a bowl. Second bowl of popcorn needed to finish my wine. This never happens, but needing to eat something as I don't drink often. My comment card was started as soon as I arrived. Pictures taken of all menus, no specials yet. Overall not impressed & hoping my next visit will be improved on food service & food selection. Left roughly @ 5 ish. Two hours and still very hungry for the ride home & wishing I got the lava cake. read more

The Whistle Stop was booked for the family meal after my grandmother's burial service, and I can't think of a better establishment. They did an amazing job creating a space where my family was able to spend time together in a relaxed space. Additionally, the service was excellent -- no one waited for drinks, and food orders were taken promptly with almost no issues (not an easy feat with 25+ guests!) The fare was incredibly well done food that ranged from traditional comfort food to sea food to Cuban sandwiches. No one i talked to had a bad meal, and personally my fish and chips was perfectly prepared. The food came out incredibly fast by table, making sure no one was waiting on their order. It's too bad I'm not in the area more often because I'd absolutely return soon. read more

Must be good for a bar and for drinks, but the food party needs to be quite a bit better. I had the meat loaf and my fiance had a burger and fries. I saw his meal sitting for 15 min under what I can only imagine was a heat lamp drying things out. My I've never had a white meatloaf before (was there even any meat in it!) top part was hard and crusty, however my $6 carrots I had were the only thing good. Don't think we will be coming back here. I have lived near this place for going on three years and have never stopped in. I regret that! And this will be our new local spot from now on. The food: fantastic. Service: phenomenal. I cannot rave enough about how blown away I was with everything! We ordered the clam chowder, Caesar salad, fish and chips, prime rib sandwich and two STRONG drinks (mai tai and mojito) The clam chowder was rich with clams. An absolutely unbelievable amount of clams in a creamy, bacon-y, New England style white sauce. We got a bowl and there was not one drop left when we were done. Perfection! The Caesar salad, no matter how simple, is how I judge so many restaurants. It's easy to slap on some generic dressing on a bed of wilted lettuce. However, the dressing was authentic, robust and flavorful! And on very CRISP, fresh romaine lettuce topped with cheese and crunchy bread crumbs, plated on simple, yet elegant, square white plates. I never eat all of my salad. But I couldn't help myself! I almost didn't have room for my main meal, which was the fish and chips. The battered fish was outstanding. Flaky, moist and meaty on the inside while the batter was crusty and crunchy. The fries that came with it were pillowy on the inside and well fried & seasoned perfectly. Even the coleslaw was good! And I'm picky about my slaw! The service is really where the Whistle Stop shines. Amanda was our server and was beyond attentive. She suggested meals based on what she thought our preferences might be (she picked up on the fact that I loved seafood immediately. My fiancé ended up changing his whole order based on her recommendation!) She was SO outgoing. She came to our table at the exact times we needed her and came out with condiments we didn't ask for but thought we might enjoy (hello, sour cream with horse radish! Where have you been all of our lives?!) She was one of the best servers I've ever had. We will be back! We will bring friends! We had been going for years, the food is ok but we like to grab dinner, a couple drinks and play keno. Since saloon 6 opened they have been going downhill. Sadly we will not be back after the bartenders cashed in our keno tickets and gave us cash back with no receipts. They shorted us $50. Looks like we will jumping ship with everyone else. read more

What a great find! Our waitress Sue was so helpful and friendly and checked in with us frequently . My friend loved his home cooked turkey with all the traditional sides . My barbecue chicken chopped salad was fresh and full of avocado, chicken and assorted veggies. I was dubious about the crushed Doritos but they added a good touch. The burger looked monstrous and at 14.00 was a good deal. The steak sandwich was flavorful and came with freshly cooked fries. We went there on a Saturday for lunch. My husband had been before when we worked nearby. We were seated immediately. There was a decent amount of people there. All of the waitresses were friendly and kind. My husband got the chili before his meal. Served with tortilla chips and my 9yo son liked it so much that he ate most of it. We had baked haddock, turkey blt and the whistle stop burger. The burger was not a premade, dense patty. It was great! The fish was fresh. The only thing I would have changed was the turkey on the turkey blt. It was cold. I wouldn't expect it to be hot. That wouldn't be right for the sandwich but cold (out of the fridge cold) kind of threw off the taste. Maybe just my opinion. Great place! read more

We recently went to The Whistle Stop for a weekday dinner, we hadn't been in a couple years and decided it was time for a revisit. My partner ordered the Baked Stuffed Haddock ($19.)and I ordered Sautéed Chicken and broccoli ($13.). Neither one of them were worth the money. My chicken was very dry and my partner said his fish wasn't anything special. We've been going here for many years, they could probably use some new decorating too, everything is starting to look dated. I thought our meals were expensive for what they were. I'm sorry to say I was extremely disappointed in this restaurant. First I got a glass of wine with lipstick on the rim! When I asked for a new one, the bartender acted like I was putting her out! Even a gross or I'm sorry would have been acceptable! My fried chicken supreme was mostly dried out batter (picture provided). The potatoes were also very dry. I ordered extra gravy, twice! If the chef can't see how dry it was perhaps a new career is advisable. read more

We ordered two dinners to pick up and the portions were ridiculously small. The penne was way over cooked and was disintegrating into the sauce as we ate it. Scallop dinner had FIVE scallops in it and was $22.00. Adding insult to injury, they were also cooked to death. Scallops should not be dry and chewy like rubber. This is a hole in the wall - but don't let the exterior or interior deter you. They put out some seriously good food! We have tried a few different things from them over there years and it has always been consistently good. Today we ordered burgers and chowder takeout. The burgers are seriously huge - none of us were able to finish our whole sandwich never-mind all of the fries. The Americana burger was basically two huge sliders next to each other on a roll. Their burgers are handmade with fresh ground beef and you can taste the difference. The sandwich was full of cheese, onions, mustard and ketchup and the fresh roll put it over the top. The clam chowder was thick and had lots of flavor. Their prices are insanely good for the portions you get. The place does get packed and it is a fairly small parking lot. It's crappy out. One of those cold, drizzly, and dreary days. I was on RT 12 in Oxford feelin' it so I wanted some soup. I was thinking cream of broccoli. I knew there was a restaurant up ahead of me before I hit Webster - yeah: The Whistle Stop. I went in and asked the friendly bartender: y'all have some soup today? She said, "yeah. Vegetable and clam chowdah." It ain't broccoli, but it's basically cream of, so, hell yeah - "Can I get a bowl of that chowdah to go?" Sure thing...she disappears into the back. I look around. All cool. I see a guy looks familiar; I don't say anything. Friendly bartender soon appears and she's grabbing the utensils (spork, et al) - I say "Don't even give me any, I'll be home in 10 minutes." She complies and places my snack on the bar in front of me; bagged-up. She says: $5.35 Bam goes my credit card, thank you very much and I am out the door. Smells good in the car. My car's got the turbo and I use it. 10 minutes was a lie because school buses, but, that's my burden. I arrive in no time, soup's still hot. I don't know if it was the whole 'MRE's are delicious when you're in the woods' thing, because it's a crappy day, but, that chowdah was unexpectedly delicious. I couldn't get it inside of me fast enough. It wasn't that thick-milk-gross dreck so many places are happy to kill your soul with. Naw, someone made this with love. I saw only one potato chunk, but there was another one in there. So good. It was loaded with clam - there was clam goodness in every bite. I may have seen a vegetable of some kind in there, maybe celery... But, my favorite part was the broth. That broth is the sh*t. Hot damn! I'm in what may as well be crow's ass mississippi, not even Rhode Island, and I just had what is easily my new 3rd favorite chowdah. You could do a hell of a lot worse, that's for sure. read more

So my husband and I stopped in to have lunch one day. Our waitress was wonderful the bartender was very friendly as well when I went to cash in my Keno ticket. We ended up only going with an order of wings because the menu seemed outdated and we saw some of the dishes come out they to us just didn't look appetizing. The wings we received or mediocre. Service was not top notch. Bartender catered to locals. I had the bison meatloaf which was over priced. Had no flavor and green beans were hard barely cooked. Wanted prime rib but bartender said we don't have much left So you should go for the meatloaf. "It's good". Not convincing. Couldn't get a desert menu bartender didn't know what was for desert. She had to ask a server. Bartender was annoyed I asked for hot chocolate and tequila. Said she didn't have hot chocolate. When I have been in to this restaurant before they changed owners And they did have hot chocolate. It is April and there is still snow on the ground have a hard time believing they didn't have it. They advertise home cooked meals and tonight's visit did not disappoint. We ordered the meatloaf and walnut crusted chicken. The food arrived quickly and the flavors were delish. The portions are large enough that you aren't leaving without a doggy bag. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 stars was due to our server who seemed more interested in talking w other patrons than waiting on us. We had to ask for water and drink refills and never once was asked how the meal was and if we needed anything. We did sit at the bar and perhaps the gal isn't used to food orders.
