I ordered this 1. Because I was starving, 2. I wanted to try something I wouldn't normally get. First time visit and boy oh boy that was such a delicious breakfast. Currently this is the only place I can eat grits.

One of our go to coffee shops in Lynchburg. Highly recommend, especially for the window seats.

Cappachinos we're good and the order taker was friendly. The cook was not friendly and the food was overly spicy, he seemed annoyed that we had all ordered food for a 7 top, three hours before closing time. Substitutions were made without notice until the food arrived. For example, the Bodega bowl which is supposed to consist of scratch noodles in a broth with stewed cabbage and onions had no broth and jalapeños were substituted for cabbage. The food was not good. Inedible for the three folks that ordered it. Same goes for the Steve Martin, substituted jalapeños for cabbage. The Roots were bland. The setting is nice, the coffee and the fries were good, we overall had a good time, but the food is not a reason to visit.

If you want a place to hang out and drink coffee while studying with wifi that you have to renew the online certificate log in every 3 hours, look no further! White Hart has everything just described! The food here is fine and the coffee (despite me not knowing anything about coffee) tastes like coffee. They have an option where you can effectively have unlimited coffee for a small upcharge so this place is a fantastic place to sit down and get lots of work done. The most surprising thing about this place is the French fries are really really good. Like better than a coffee shop should ever have invested in. It leads to this really cozy odd vibe where you see people with unlimited cups of coffee and massive plates of fries hanging out and doing work on these wooden tables. I will also add that the wooden chairs, despite being made out of wood, are really really sturdy. Often times, wood chairs are like falling apart at the seams or due to loose screws, but this place has really good furniture. Some of the tables are a bit wobbly but so be it. The baked goods here are phenomenal despite them not having any apparent oven or capabilities to make any of the stuff they serve. Its a bit pricey but everything is worth eating (so far I've had two cookies, a muffin, a scone, and a Danish, everything ranges from good to fantastic). If I lived downtown I would be at this café every day, but unfortunately I'm only able to come here due to it being spring break. The only qualm I have is that some of the wall sockets are super super loose but not a deal breaker at all!

Avocado toast with scrambled egg - definitely recommend!!

We stopped at the cafe on our way through town for a quick bite to eat. It's really conveniently located, and we were fortunate to have no trouble with parking on an early Sunday afternoon. They are enforcing masks, social distancing and limited seating. I got the avocado toast with scrambled egg on top as well as a white chocolate macadamia nut scone. The toast was perfectly crispy and there was about 1/2 an avocado sliced up on the toast. It also looked like there were 2 eggs that were scrambled on top, so not a bad portion size at all. They forgot to bring out my scone, but thankfully I remembered before we left so I could get it to go. It was literally the perfect scone - I managed to share one bite and proceeded to devour the rest of it! Seating is tricky due to Covid restrictions, so just bear that in mind especially if you're in a larger group. However, if you're looking for a much better alternative to chain restaurants, absolutely make your way here for breakfast and lunch!

Terrible. So you order and the guys who keep touching their faces are cooking right near you. You'd think that would be reason enough to stop touching their faces but it isn't. Anyway I ordered them traditional breakfast that supposedly comes with two eggs and three pieces of bacon as well as potato medley and toast. So they asked if I wanted fruit. I said yes. Then my plate comes with no potatoes. If it was a substitute then tell me. Would've rather had the potatoes than the bread tbh. Also I got two pieces of bacon instead of three. Bogus. The bacon was gross anyway with chipotle (again tell us, yuck) so I didn't say anything. I also ordered a side of fruit and it was TINY but $5. Pic included. They say the bread is from the bakery but right out the front they have all this commercial crap. I don't get it. Skip.

White Hart Cafe is conveniently located in downtown Lynchburg with plenty of free parking down on Commerce Street along with a farmers market situated right across the street on weekends 9am-2pm. The homey, hip coffee house vibe is the perfect place to pull up and get some work done for a few hours or grab a caffeine boost before exploring downtown Lynchburg. We also had Hannah's breakfast bagel which was devoured before we could take a picture. Get the bagel sandwich, get your go to drink, kick back and make yourself at home.

A bit of a wait, but good selections that taste well. Not a place I would bring a laptop to work or chill. But even so, a good atmosphere.

I have several issues but will start with the first one that really bothers me: 1. As I approached the restaurant I noticed this homeless man walking around the block with a walker. I was in Dish from 5 - 6:30 and this homeless man came in THREE times to go into the bathroom (he was not a customer). This was not only a huge turn off but IMO a sanitary issue of him going into the bathroom doing who knows what. I saw the expression on the waitress face like she did not know what to do. Was there a manager working? Is this how it is at every restaurant in town that they allow homeless people in to use the bathroom? Are there homeless shelters for people in town to provide care and feeding for them? 2. I ordered a glass of wine on the Happy Hour menu and it was weak, like water was added to it. 3. I ordered the Smoke Salmon encrusted in Puff Pastry and the puff pastry was not cooked all the way (it was clearly visible that it was not a golden brown but rather a pale yellow. I just hope my future experiences in this lovely town on much better than I experienced last night. And one more thing, I have stomach issues today, and all I can think of is the cooks using that bathroom where this homeless guys went in 3 times in 90 minutes. I question how this is not Board of Health Violation.

We came in for breakfast, missed the cutoff, and ended up ordering lunch instead. That shift ended up defining the experience. **FOOD** At the table, we had three different sandwiches, and each one had its own issues, but they all pointed in the same direction. I ordered the Handcrafted King Burger. The name suggests something made in-house, or at least something with a bit of character. What came out looked like a prefab patty. Perfectly round, evenly flat, with the kind of surface you usually see from a frozen product. Flavor was fine, but it didn't match what you expect from a brisket burger. The toppings were standard, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, but the lettuce portion was skimpy and the tomato was sliced so thick it threw the balance off. I ended up cutting it down myself just to make it easier to eat. The fries were fine. Nothing wrong, just nothing memorable. My wife ordered the French dip. It came out dry, which is the one thing that sandwich really can't afford. It didn't seem like it had been dipped at all before serving, and the meat leaned overcooked. The au jus on the side helped once we started using it, but by then you're correcting something that should have been handled in the kitchen. We ended up swapping meals, which usually says enough. My mom went with the BLT, and that was the most disappointing of the three. The bacon was overcooked to the point where it broke down into small pieces instead of giving any real texture. It ate more like bacon crumbles than strips. The tomato had the same issue as mine, cut too thick, and needed to be adjusted at the table. She did like the house chips. Those were crisp, not oily, and easily the most complete item that came out. Across multiple plates, the Swiss cheese stood out, and not in a good way. It had the look and texture of a lower-end processed slice rather than something you'd expect from a deli. It showed up more than once, which made it feel like a standard shortcut rather than a choice. **SERVICE** Service was steady. Our waitress stayed on top of refills and checked in without hovering. Orders were taken correctly, food came out in a reasonable time, and nothing got missed. **AMBIENCE** The space is clean and organized, and it's clear they take care of it. It's a little smaller than it looks online, but it works. Nothing feels out of place, and it's comfortable enough to sit and eat without distraction. **CLOSING** This feels like a place that might do one part of the menu better than another. Based on this visit, lunch didn't hold up. Too many small things were off across multiple plates, and it adds up. We'll likely come back and try breakfast, but there's not much here that would bring us back for lunch. **RATINGS** Food: ** Service: **** Ambiance: **** Overall: *** Personal Disclaimer: I value small, independent restaurants and want them to succeed. This review reflects a single visit and may not represent every experience. EVERY RESTAURANT IS WORTH TRYING FOR YOURSELF. Go, see what you get, and be honest in how you evaluate it. I've worked as an executive chef, restaurant manager, and owner. I tend to hold places to a higher standard. Execution matters. Freshness matters. Effort shows. Cutting corners usually does too.
