Service was great. Loved the ambiance inside. Food was just meh, except for the green healthy drink, which I normally like. My husband's lemonade was good, but overpowered by lemon (granted it was a fruit flavored lemonade, but the fruit was difficult to taste. However if you need citric acid, this drink packs a punch!) The basque cheesecake looked like it would be amazing. But the recipe isn't quite there--the berry compote needed a little more tart, and the cheesecake itself wasn't as soft as I would like (this might just be a temperature issue.) Having said all of this, it's a new restaurant, so maybe they will improve, or maybe the chef was having an off day. My husband said his brunch burrito was decent. We have been several times for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Really liked it the first couple times. I was so excited to tell all my friends. Fast forward a few weeks, and my enthusiasm and my rating has waned...it has been a mixed bag. Had a decent bfast burrito, and then delicious fish tacos the first couple visits. I told all my friends how good they were~lots of fish, hot and flavorful. The next time we went, I got an egg scramble that was flavorful but not hot. I mentioned it to the server and they just replied, "oh". My husband had a breakfast sandwich this week that was tasty, but not hot. They recently began a "Taco Tuesday", so we wanted to try that. It was not listed on the menu, so asked and was told it was any two of their regular tacos for $10. However, they were different than the regular ones ~no toppings, but still a tasty, generous portion of meat and fish. So, we go again a couple weeks later on Taco Tuesday. Again, no mention of it on the menu or from the server. We asked and they said yes, any two tacos from the regular menu. So, he got the trip tip and carnitas tacos. They were good~with generous portions of meat. I got a fish and a shrimp taco. Was very disappointed in both. The fish taco had the tiniest piece of fish, adjacent to a spoonful of COLD tuna salad. It was a bizarre combination, and not what I expected. I asked the server about it. She that is what they are serving on Taco Tuesday now. Trying to save money, I think. The other taco had 3 small shrimp. Three bites of shrimp is not satisfying. So, we are going to take a break from White Rooster. read more

Soooo delicious! We ordered from the happy hour menu, and tried the smoked tri tip tacos in blue corn shells. Such tender meat and toppings. I would definitely get these again! This place is amazing! I went today for lunch with my husband. He works at a nearby hotel and loves trying out all the Dana Point restaurants because he gets asked constantly where to eat nearby. This is definitely going to the top of his list. The vibe inside is very laid back. Perfect ambiance for a restaurant close to the beach. All the staff was welcoming and our waitress was so nice. I ordered the steak and egg burrito and it was so good. It was very large and full of delicious tri tip, fluffy eggs, potatos and a sauce I am still thinking about. My husband got the shrimp polenta dish. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and it was honestly some of the best polenta I've had. The menu is unique and I can't wait to come back and try more of it. I also got a horchata latte that was so delicious it tasted like a rice pudding (in the best way possible.) My husband got the $2 coffee because what place can you get a cup of coffee for $2?!? It was strong but still tasty. They also have a large selection of gluten free items to choose from that all looked delicious. So didn't finish my sweet drink (brain freeze). I ordered carnitas tacos but was not happy with the meat...the pork was smoked with strong bbq flavor instead of the Mexican flavor that I am used to. The waiter took it off my bill immediately and I didn't even ask . The rice and beans were good. I am not a picky eater but it wasn't like the authentic Mexican food I'm familiar with. We sampled the following curated drinks/bites from Chef Michael: Eternal Life & OC Juice Agua Frescas Smoked Carnitas Brunch Burrito The N'oreasters Blue Corn Waffle Tropical Thunder BCW Every bite was delicious with the stand outs (to me) being the N'Oreaster and the Brunch Burrito. The salsa that was served in the gold pot on the side was one of the best salsas I've ever had - and a perfect compliment to the burrito. Service staff was incredibly welcoming, friendly and well informed about the menu - appreciated their patience answering our questions and paying attention to allergies, etc. The space felt clean, bright and homey. Service was a little slow and uninformed of menu/preparation. We had the Elvis waffle, shrimp and grits tamale, chilaquiles and a cinnamon roll. The bacon was the best part of the waffle. The grits dish was too bland. Nothing exciting, just ok. The same for the chilaquiles- not the best I've had and bland. Portions are good but spice and flavor are absent. I asked for salsa to improve the chilaquiles and was given a shot glass size cup if verde salsa like you'd get from a jar. At a Mexican restaurant. The Mexican style cinnamon roll was very good although the dates are so subtle the barely need mention in the description. It would be better with a little more of that date filling. So that means laundry time. I spot this white rooster restaurant next to the laundromat. Soo I pop my 50lbs of dirty laundry in one unfortunate machine and head next door. It's 1:30pm and a couple tables. Waitress Ella tells me they just had a soft opening. Next thing I know I'm sitting down staring at a menu... oh she's goooood.... Took my time reading the menu.... It's different...in the most wonderful way possible. Nothing on here is boring. Everything is unique or has a twist on a classic. Me being an absolute slut for chilaquiles order that. What came out was a little under what I would call massive. Big portion. Chilaquiles were crispy, the Guajillo sauce was impressive wanted to ask for more but that's because I'm a saucy dude. Didn't need it tho. Tortilla chips had good seasoning, nothing bland. Over all great dish. Hate to say this cus I cook my own food... but I'll definitely be back.
