Came here with a group of friends after checking out other places in the area and the wait time was too long so I'm glad there was no wait here. We ordered the bbq wings, sliders, and mussels for starters. The wings weren't as flavored with bbq sauce as much as we wanted, I think it was glazed more than marinated into bbq sauce. The sliders were really good. My friends also enjoyed the mussels. My friends ordered burgers as their entree, they enjoyed it. I had the chicken pot pie which was interesting, the pie portion was on the top instead of the meal being all put inside the pie like normally. My other friend had the salmon, which he enjoyed as well. The drinks were good but could have used a bit more alcohol. I had the white sangria and you could barely taste the wine, but my friends enjoyed their drinks, they had the Moscow mule. read more

I've been meaning to check out The Wicked Monk since I moved to Bay Ridge three years ago. I've heard great things about it from various people in the neighborhood. I pass by the restaurant pretty frequently and thought the menu looked solid. I ended up having brunch here this past weekend and have come to the conclusion that I really wasn't missing out on anything. The decor is eclectic for sure. Think Medieval Irish Monk meets Dungeons and Dragons (i.e. it's dimly lit in there). The food is standard Irish fare, or what Americans think Irish food should be. I couldn't tell if our waitress was actually Irish or putting on an Irish accent. But it's Bay Ridge so who knows? We started with the Dublin Crab Cakes ($14) which came two to an order and drizzled with mustard. They were a decent size and were crab plentiful. I would probably say these crab cakes would land on the higher end of the Good Crab Cake scale. I had the Three Egg Omelette ($12) with Swiss cheese, spinach, and tomatoes. It came with home fries and a choice of bacon, sausage, or ham. I had bacon. The omelette was hefty, I guess no one really needs three eggs, spinach, cheese AND tomato. It could have used a little more seasoning, if there was any at all. The home fries were forgettable. The bacon was as it should be- crispy, salty, fatty. My biggest complaint though was that I was denied a latte. Your only options are really just straight up regular coffee or iced coffee. Coffee is important to me. I live for the creamy goodness of espresso mixed with frothed milk pumping through my veins. To not have a latte in the morning is heresy. The bill came to $45 not including tip. Pass. read more

This time I did not want to go to our traditional venue and we went to The Wicked Monk. We met with Billy, the Manager, and he made suggestions on the set up and the appetizers. He was right on point. Our server Annette, the waiter and bartender, I apologize that I cannot remember either name, were fantastic. The order was placed without an issue and the food was served quickly. We had a party of 20 so it wasn't an easy feat. I received compliments on the atmosphere, the food and service from everyone. Considering the make up of the group and the occasion, it made my day a bit easier. I compliment the owners for having such a professional staff. I have eaten and drank here often. Plenty of spots at the bar. The bartenders are very attentive at the bar. I ate at the restaurant today. I ordered a blue cheese burger with fries and onion rings. I splash a little malt vinegar in the fries and it made them even better. My mom has the chicken pot pie which I had once before and it was so good. My sister had a cheese burger. I had the blood orange margarita, my mom had wine and my sister a soda. I had a double espresso with a very nicely poured after dinner drink and my mom had coffee. Everything was perfect. The Wicked Monk has adapted to the times and is still operating. They have outdoor seating in the front and a "Beer Garden" in the back. I have been here a few times and have really enjoyed their food. I've have their impossible burger which was very good and served with homemade crunchy fries. The second time I ordered oysters. They had a choice if either East or West Coast oysters. We had east coast oysters and they were fresh and delicious. I ended up ordering a beet and spinach salad to pair with my beer for the night. Effective yesterday evening was my official fifth or sixth time at the now not so new location of The Wicked Monk; a bar that had been a popular Fifth Avenue staple spot for decades. The first couple of times that I visited were only to snag a quick pint and these last three I managed to sit for a proper dinner and now we Yelp! The new Wicked Monk is a spacious place without question and when the customer arrives he is greeted by a host who generally seems to direct them to the dining room area. The bar is on your right and its not truly separate from the dining room as it was when this was The Bally Bunion, but there are booths on that side of the space that tend to make it seem two distinct parts. Depending on your evening goals its the dining room or the main bar. I found it rather interesting that they seem to be gearing this a dining spot since that was not their original premise. The wait staff was charming and pleasant on each occasion and so far I have sampled the Sheperds Pie, Rueben Spring Rolls, Chicken Marsala, the burger and chicken wings, they have all been excellent. As a foodie if I caught sight of the chef I would make sure to compliment him on his skills. The drinks were standards for me and either a hard cider or light beer. I was a little annoyed at how there didn't appear to be any happy hour pricing for the diners. Not sure there is one at all here but if so they should consider allowing the whole bar to enjoy this. It makes sense for sure and almost always guarantees a diner to move over to the bar when they finish eating. Its a sure bet that I will be returning and I enjoy the vibe over here much more than the also nearby Pippin's. read more

I have been coming to this place for five years and this will be my last time. I arrived on a Wednesday evening and approached the hostess stand, but three employees including one who turned out to be my server were too busy chatting to even acknowledge me. I was two feet away, and I know I am not invisible. The food service was slow, and when I attempted to order dessert, the waitress told me the kitchen was closed. It was a little after 10 PM, and even though the website says the kitchen is open until 11, I was out of luck. Nice! What a lousy experience for a sh@tty burger! I really wanted to come here for the happy hour and the food but realized happy hour was only when you sat at the bar, but once you eat their food anything makes up for disappointment! I ordered the buffalo wings as an appetizer and they were so so so good!! They were spicy but also kind of sweet and it was nothing i was mad at! As a meal i ordered the fish and chips and again i was amazed. The food was delicious the fish was fried to perfection and the Cajun spice on the French fries was definitely the right kick to add to an already tasty meal! My friend ordered the Philly cheesesteak Mac and cheese and I'm not a fan of Mac and cheese but she said it was definitely one of the best she's ever eaten and i believe her because everything i had made me want more! I'm not sure if it was frozen first, then sent to the fryer. Or if it was over done, or under done. It was a texture of fish that I've never seen before. It was more akin to rubber. Unchewable, and wouldn't break up when I tried to use a fork. It's more of a theme restaurant like Jekyll and Hyde's from back in the day. It's sort of corny. But they have a lot of sports going on, which might be why you might want to give the place a shot. read more

Im lactose intolerant so I ordered medium rear burger WITHOUT cheese. They gave me medium rear burger WITH cheese. I kindly apologized for trouble but asked them that this order was wrong. They took it back. Then, chef came out and put the plate in front of me very loudly and with rude attitude. When I took my first bite I noticed that it was literally raw, raw ground beef which was completely unsafe to consume. I, again, apologized and showed them how meat looked like. They took it back without any complains. It was chef again who brought me a new burger and it looked like this (please see attached), he was much angrier this time and literally smashed the plate in front of me. Food Poisoning - BEWARE! If you do not want food poisoning, eat somewhere else. I would frequent this establishment randomly after work, considering it is close to my house and proved to be OK for a quick bite. The place has steadily declined over the last couple of months. The food tastes like something you'd get in a hospital cafeteria, and that's being generous. The portions have gotten significantly smaller which is outrageous considering their prices. I ordered the Reuben spring rolls as well as the chicken sandwich. I was sick to my stomach with food poisoning shortly after. I will not be coming back here again, which is unfortunate based on sheer convenience alone. Aside from the food poisoning, the employees are visibly miserable. It looks like they are employed in a jail rather than in a bar/restaurant - not the type of energy I like to be surrounded by when paying for a meal. Between the sky-high prices, the depressing service, and the food poisoning - I have called it quits with the Wicked Monk. Extremely under seasoned and the balance of meat and sauce to potatoes was way off. It was basically 75% potatoes. For the two items costing $38 I expected much better! While visiting the big apple I was invited to this place for Sunday Brunch, si the night before I immediately took to yelp to check out the reviews and the menu. When we arrived at 12:30 pm the place was packed and only accepting people with reservations luckily we had one. The first thing you notice is the decor, it looks and feels like a old church with stain glass windows. The hostess and waitress where very attentive and accommodating. We were a table of 5, we ordered dishes like the crabcakes, the Irish breakfast, the burger and chicken wings. The only person that enjoyed their dish was the person who had the chicken wings. We went here today for father's day and it was definitely worth our while. The staff were very friendly and seated us quickly, the food was DELICIOUS, and all accommodations were met. We were originally planning on eating next door at The Common for brunch, but the wait was too long and we ended up here. We started off with the fried calamari and shrimp, which is some of the best I've had in a while. Their chicken pot pie was amazing and very filling, I've been full for 3 hours since our visit. The Wicked Monk is one of the most popular (aka immensely crowded) bars in Bay Ridge. It's spacious with booths, and an awesome selection of beers. However, if you're coming on a Friday or Saturday night, you may find the hoards of dark, dingy, super Irish men overwhelming. In which case, feel free to visit any of the other equally awesome bars in Bay Ridge--there are plenty. Wicked Monk is best visited on a Thursday night where you can hang out and converse with your friends over pints of beer and delicious Irish fare. Particular highlights of the menu are hands down the Mac and cheese, we usually get this for our appetizer. The burger is good as well and the fish and chips are great.
